Going to go ahead and put this here so we don't clutter up the OOC Thread with ten page sof character creation questions. Also pick up the Players Guide for use in creation!

Step One: You can create your sheet by going to the Tools menu at the top of the page, going down to My Characters, and then at the bottom of that page is a New Character option. Put in your character name or I tend to use class if I don't have a name determined yet, and select the Pathfinder template from the drop-down menu.

Step 1.5: Make sure you set your character sheet to public or I won't be able to help you! You can do this by clicking on the Edit button for your newly created sheet, and clicking Apply Public Permissions.

Step Two: You can review a character creation guide for Pathfinder in the Newbie Games Forum and if you're interested you can apply for a New Player Solo Game to get a feel for things.

Step Three: If you're still having trouble, ask me! I'm always glad to help!

Hello everyone! I am RaeRae, or Pickle, or Magic, whatever you feel like. To break the ice I'm a 19 year old full time college student, though I'll be turning 20 here shortly on May 30th, and I'm working on an Associates in Web Design, though at this point I believe I'll be furthering my education in a political or journalistic manner. I'm an administrator over at Whazzit Weyrd and I'm currently enrolled in a DM Apprenticeship program over at Eternity's End which I recommend you check out if you would like to have more than this game going, it's a neat place and very helpful.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, go ahead and post them here! And of course I highly encourage you guys to use the thread to chat and talk about the game or whatever.

<fieldset><legend>Rasputin</legend>The astral plain was as barren and void as Rasputin's studies had told. His time their would be short however, and after realizing his defeat for several minutes Rasputin felt his mind go dark and an unnatural sleep overtook him. Memories of trials of pain and agony flooded Rasputin's mind. He remembered his life before coming to power and the innocent childhood that he had once forgotten. Moments of true joy and bliss touched Rasputin's blackened heart for what seemed like eternity.

Yet even longer still did the memories of his quest for power plague him. Endless days of torment under the servitude of his master Orcus replayed in Rasputin's dreams as he remembered all he did for power. Through some cruel twist of fate, Rasputin felt every vile act he had committed from the perspective of his victims. Every moment of pain and sorrow welled up inside like a massive dam threatening to burst. When the memory finally came where Rasputin knew he would kill his own father he felt something he never would have expected. In his father's last breaths before Rasputin ripped out his heart he could feel his father's sorrow. The last words that passed through his father's mind rang clear as day inside Rasputin's mind. "Forgive me my son...I have failed you."

Rasputin opened his eyes to find himself laying in his bed as he had when he first arrived in this realm. His possession lay off to the side on the dresser while he himself was garbed in silk night clothes. Standing against the door like a silent guardian was the mage. His eyes watched Rasputin with an emotionless gaze.</fieldset>

Sharn, the largest city on the continent of Khorvaire, knows many names: the City of Towers, the City of Knives, the City of Lost Souls, the Gateway to Perdition, the Gateway to Xen'drik. The name which you ascribe to such a many-faceted city such as this would largely depend upon the nature of your business on any given day. Within the walls that rise from the cliff faces of the Hilt is a maddening network of structures that defies not only logic but the very truths that bind the world together, as well. Towers piled on top of towers reach higher and higher still, creating a man-made mountain of spires and skyscrapers that disappears into the dark clouds above.

From the the sordid filth that surrounds the furnaces and foundries within the churning molten depths of the Cogs to the grand crystalline spires suspended far above the tallest towers of the Upper City, Sharn seethes with activity. Majestic and beautiful skyships soar between the flying towers where unimaginably wealthy scions of noble birth and Dragonmarked houses make their homes. Meanwhile, houseless ragamuffins scrape, steal, and fight just to survive, forgotten beneath the weight and shadows of the city. To say that Sharn is beautiful and a marvel to behold is to turn a blind eye the squalor below. To say that it is the pinnacle of civilization is to ignore the politics, plots, and selfish schemes of the men that make this city their home.

Every day, a hundred adventures unfold in the City of Towers. This is but one...</fieldset>

Let me tell you, it is as far from pleasant as a trog is far from good hygeine or soy is to good fresh meat. This lot though, has a story to tell on the matter.

Some betrayals, for example, go down easier than others. You can tell who the weak link was who opened their mouth for a fatter paycheck. After that, two options remain; you either survive and blank the fragger, or you don't. And don't give me no 'I wouldn't kill somebody for that' nonsense. Trust me. You would want to do it too.

Other betrayals are more lengthy results. Mr. Johnson wants a fancy coin from some Megacorp lab; you ask as many questions as you want, but you're not gettin' much out of a suit. The paycheck is big enough, the defenses weak enough, so you take the work, get the coin, everything is fine and dandy. You're about to get some credsticks, he's about to get his little bauble, and then things start going up in smoke. Literally and figuratively!

Now, the common choice is to blame your so-called friends. But when they're caught up in the same explosions with the same problems, instead of slotting and running? Probably not your man in this case. The next bet is to check to see if your Mr. Johnson ran off with the bauble and your money.

Oh. Hey. He's a flaming pile of muck now. Well, isn't that just inconvenient. And that damn trinket is missing. So two options: you either take this attempting to kill you lying down and hope they don't send a kick artist to finish the job, or you find out who wanted to make sure you were dead.

And do you hear that sound? That's the razorboy on his way now. Better get to work.</fieldset>

<fieldset><legend>Plot Summary</legend>Essentially, we are looking at starting a 4th Edition Shadowrun game in which the players will start as a roughly unified group of Runners who have just finished one of their missions; in this case robbing an item from an unspecified Megacorp lab for large, large sums of money. Upon delivering the item to the Mr. Johnson, they instead receive explosions, assassination attempts, and conspiracies.

In particular, we'll be starting in media res, with the group attempting to survive the fallout from the failed mission. This will essentially have tanked their rep; even though we're assuming your characters will be established runners, you're going to be working from the bottom up. I hope by starting out in this manner to avoid certain party cohesion issues, while still allowing you a large array of options.</fieldset>

<fieldset><legend>What Do I need to Play</legend>Practically speaking, you will need at a minimum the Shadowrun 4th Edition Quick Start Guide, that goes over the basics of play and the general themes that you will be looking at. As for character creation, I'll be willing to help sourcebooks, and we'll be able to use a program known as Chummer! It does not have full descriptions for the rules; but it does give you an idea of the many options possible. As I have most of the sourcebooks, I'll be able to go in details about any specifics necessary.

Note that you will not need to create a character until AFTER the application process, though knowing a vague idea of what is possible might help.</fieldset>

<fieldset><legend>Player Expectations</legend>I am a full-time graduate student in Astrophysics; this means that at points I won't be able to keep up constantly. I require the following simple conditioins.

Players must be capable of posting 3 major posts/week, assuming everything is moving at an appropriate pace. Slow down may happen, but it is not to be anticipated while you are applying.

Players should be prepared for an R rating in US cinematic ratings. Shadowrun is a gritty place, so there is vice, backstabbing, and explosions. It will be violent, it will be bloody, it will be dark. You should be prepared for this.

If you can keep to these, we're all in the good.</fieldset>

<fieldset><legend>Application Process</legend>Characters will be constructed after the fact. For now, you'll fill out the following form, with as much detail as you want. In addition, if you have any other things that you think will be helpful, such as Character Impressions, Soundtrack, etc, feel free to put those in. These ones are necessary though.

Alias: What name do you go by in the sprawl? Is it a derivative of your real name? Is it something you thought up on the spot? Is it something you were given?

Archetype: Not necessarily one listed in the book, but some vague idea of what your role is in the average Shadowrunner outfit.

Metatype: Are you a normal human? Have your genes expressed themselves differently? Are you a troll? An ork? A dandelion eating elf?

Awakened/Emerged?: If you are going to be one of the two, best to put that here. If you are either of the two, describing your awakening/emerging would be a good course of action.

Motivations: What motivates you to be a Shadowrunner? Do you just want the money? At the very least, you need to be able to justify working with a Mr. Johnson to begin with and be willing to seek answers after being screwed as opposed to going home and taking a nap.

Character Background: Tell me about your character. Go nuts. This should be a minimum of a full paragraph to give me a good sample of your roleplaying sample. Tell me about how your character came to be a Runner. Tell me what deep dark secrets they might hold. Describe them to me; make me see them vividly. This is your chance to both describe how your character looks upon impression and what makes them tick. Make me want to see more of them!

Your Character at Work: Here is my special little twist from the normal. I want to hear some things you can see your Shadowrunner doing on a job to break into a defended Megacorp lab and steal some stuff. Either before, during, or after. This should also be a minimum of a full paragraph as well.

Anything Else You Want: Go nuts if you think it will be interesting!</fieldset>

<fieldset><legend>Helpful Documents</legend>As far as helpful documents go:
Throughout that, I will give my impressions on character applications as they come in. I hope to have 4-5 solid applications by the end of this and will choose based on whom I think will make a best fit for the campaign I have in mind. I look forward to seeing what you can think up!</fieldset>

Rules & Regulations

These rules will be ever-standing until the end of Season 1. At that time, they may be subject to change, but will not come unannounced. Any changes to the below rules will be handled with extreme visibility.

Matches consist of 3 rounds.

Each round lasts until one PC drops to 0 HP, in which case, they are K.O'd.

In between rounds, it is considered a 'Short Rest', meaning that all encounter powers, including second wind are refreshed, and you may use a number of healing surges to get back to full HP.

If you have lost a round, you start the next round at full HP.

In the event of a rule dispute, please post clearly that you are pausing for a DM rule call, and alert one of us in your personal thread. Sometimes PM boxes get full, so that will be the best manner of action.

Please ensure all relevant information is included in your posts. This includes current & total HP, defenses, passive perception and insight, and reactionary abilities that may occurr (as in Fighter's Combat Agility, or prepared actions.)

Exhibition matches will not reward XP or Gold, but will rather add to your combat record (which will be recorded in the roster), and give standing towards earning new titles (Arrival of mechanic TBA)

Season 1 Structure

Exhibition Matches
These matches will account for nothing except an opportunity to figure out your character, and will afford you no rewards save bragging rights. They will count towards certain title qualifications once those are fully fleshed out. Until this phase is over, characters can be changed and tweaked as much as you like.

Round Robin
Each player may participate in ten sanctioned matches. Any opponent may only account for 2 of these, so to fight all of your sanctioned matches, you have to face at least 5 different opponents. Any matches beyond the first 10 sanctioned will count as exhibition matches for you, even if they count as sanctioned for your opponent.
XP and gold will be earned for each of these matches, on a sliding scale based on your level of success. Any leveling that takes place must conform to standard 4E leveling restrictions (ie, retrain one feat, skill, power, or theme). Actual details of this scale will be determined at the beginning of the round robin phase.

Tournament
The (currently) six best records will earn a spot in the tournament, who will then be seated with a weighted record system, with the bottom four participating in play-in matches to create a standard 4-slot ladder. Single elimination matches (standard best of 3 rounds) will be played to determine a winner.
No XP will be gained from the tournament, but the top 3 will earn prize money. The winner will earn a shiny title, the biggest share of the purse, and the opportunity to establish a theme for the next Season that will impact all matches!

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these rules, or wish for clarification, or even if you think I've forgotten something, please let me know in your personal threads.

Thank you!

Hi there! Thank you for clicking on this thread! :ridin

I am looking for a game (or two) that would ideally last between ~June 1 - ~June 30.

That is... I'd like a game that has some sort of 'end' in mind. Whether that be completing the adventure, or the death of my character, I'm down either way.

I indicate this both because a) my schedule will slightly change in July and b) I would like a game where the threat of death is fairly high.

Rate of Posting: I'd prefer a fairly active game, with around 2-4 posts a day.

Game types: Although I indicate 3.5, I can do Pathfinder, will happily explore homebrew content, and would even be willing to look into modern stuff.

Level preference: Generally within any system, I would like the game to start in the lower range of levels, somewhere between 1-7.

Some scenarios that would work well for this type of game:
1) Generally games where the character is isolated in a hostile environment could work well. A desolate island. A haunted space ship. A zombie-ravaged town.

2) Scenarios with a mystery that needs to be solved in a timely fashion... a killer is on the loose, or an assassination is going to take place, and must be stopped before time runs out.

3) A range of other scenarios, so long as there is a fairly discernible goal that needs to be accomplished within a certain timeframe.

Example of a solo thread.

Here's a sample character backstory, but I am happy to create a fresh character for whatever setting we agree on.

Race: Dwarf
Class: Rogue
Description:
On this day in Gavin's Point, Tuf was prepared for combat and a hasty escape. He wears warm but loose clothing, both to protect him from the cold of the mountains and also to hide a myriad of small items, weapons, and instruments. His hair is tightly tied back in a long braid.

Backstory / RP Sample:

I.
It was the perfect plan.

Things had gotten rough for Tuf. After that near-miss in Gatta two months ago, he'd ended up having to abandon some of his prized finds. They'd seen his face, and now there were bounty hunters on him from Bale to Farbe. It was time to retire, at least for a while--and to do that, he needed one last big score.

II.
He had the perfect team.

He'd done a job with Hawke back in the Dragon's Year, and he'd grown up with Uma on the streets of Farbe. They'd done their first job together--a merchant's safe down by the pier. That job had gone sour, but she had done her part and he had done his. All they needed this time was someone else that they could count on--and Hawke was the man for the job. Hawke was the lockpicker, the long-thinker, the man with the angles. Tuf was the dwarf who could get them in and out.

III.
The execution had been flawless.

They knew that as soon as they had the jewels of the princess of Farbe that there'd be more than just ruffians and the occasional sheriff or bounty hunter on their tail. As soon as word got out, the real deal would be on them.

The theft itself had gone flawlessly. Uma had the timing perfectly; she'd caused the distraction, he'd eased his way in through the kennel all the way up the wall and then through the kitchen's chimney; maneuvered his way to the sewer grate; undone the latch; got Hawke to the door, and there it was: the jewels of Farbe.

IV.
It was the perfect plan for escape.

Of course, they would expect them to go to Bale, to seek ship immediately. That's where Uma's plan came in extra handy.

She'd heard of an abandoned shaft up by Gavin's Point that went all the way through the mountain, that would get them to a small boat where they could take their time in getting away. It would all be so easy.

V.
The hunt was on.

Bounty Hunter Harris nearly had them by Blood-Eye Gulch. Things had gotten hot then; they'd had to drop some smoke bombs, some stunning grenades. They'd ridden their way out on an old mine trolley; landed in the freezing cold river. Now they knew he was on their trail.

VI.
He was betrayed.

"I'm sorry, Tuf. There's only one way that Harris found us that fast--and that's if he was already on you for Gatta." Hawk held a crossbow pointed at Tuf's chest.

"You bastard, Hawke! All this way--we're nearly out of here, and now you turn?" Tuf was furious, but he didn't want to lunge at Hawke and get a bolt in the chest. He needed to keep his poise.

"Let's face it, Tuf. We don't need you." The bolt sailed.

VII.
Things fall apart.

Tuf awoke in a temple. After a quick look around, he figured it was a temple of Pelor.

They'd left him for dead--how long ago? He felt his chest--the cleric had healed him with a blessing from the gods, no doubt, which meant he had no way to tell how long he'd been out, how long they'd left him for dead. If they had thought he was dead, maybe they would have spent some time in Gavin's Point replenishing supplies for the trek through the mountain. Maybe he could still catch them.

That's when he heard sounds coming from the main room. Pulling himself up, he felt around in the relative darkness of the room--it had but a single candle--to find his gear and throw on his clothes. Something was wrong here, but what?

As he peeked out of his room, he saw two clerics of Pelor--wielding morningstars--running toward what he could only guess was the front door. Opening the door further, he turned the corner and looked down into the central hall of the Temple of Pelor--and saw the clerics locked into mortal combat with... with... zombies?

Tuf closed the door, turned around, and gripped his forehead. This was not what he signed up for.
