Okay guys here are the list of bumpers we need. Ideally they would each have so sort of music and/or sound effect to accompany the VO announcing the next segment.

Site New: I was think something along the line of a VO going "Extra Extra Read all about it." I may record my 9 years shouting this to get the 1950 paperboy vibe going.

RPG Pulse: This one is already complete it is deep voiced me saying RPG Pulse accompanied by a heart beat during to last half of the bumper.

PoTM: open to suggestions

Short Story Competition: open to suggestions assuming Aethera can still stand being apart of this shoddy podcast.

Big Topic: I have had a few ideas for this one but the one I think we can pull over right now would be having a lady in a valley girl type voice say "OMG that is the biggest Topic I have ever seen"

These are just my thoughts. I am open to any and all suggestions.

P.S. Maybe we should also have a temporary show opener until we can run the Theme Song contest. Something as simple a Tristine saying "Your are now listening to RPG Crossing radio" then have a funny tagline, would work.

Now this is a concept I've had for awhile, and I'm simply unable to see it come to fruition. I am writing a super hero for it in case it is too dark to remain as my immediate character, but It would be nice to see Peaches hit comics under whomever feels comfortable being able to write him. I am currently writing The Amazing C, which is a counter to Peaches almost, but similar, because Jack Rose sells peaches in town, one of them is accidentally distributed to one of the high school students of the town forcing him to develop similar powers. That concept is still in development, now as a super villain, this here, is Peaches, take him as you like, but do please see what can be made. He has been censored to the best of my capability at this point.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
Name: Jack Rose
Age: 26
Physical Description: Lean, almost old looking. Eyes of Red Foreman, and a foot to boot. Typically carries around enough peaches for the day, either in a sack or backpack. Jack is scrawny, sinewy and riddled with scars. His eyes are peach colored, and his face is long and dreary. The most prominent of these is a large gash across his back. He covers them with his peach leather jacket and wife beater (get it cause his mom beat him). He has black pants that go down to his feet and have slits on both sides. His shoes are peach and meant for gripping walls as he attempts to climb and or jump off of them. He is typically smiling, especially when peaches are around him.
Occupation: Jack is a peach farmer.
Personality: Quiet, neurotic, homicidal, kind-spirited, schizophrenic, and always helpful
He is typically carefree as well as aware of his surroundings. Peaches is more than apathetic, but only towards menial matters such as things he personally is not interested in which includes work, or things done before monotonously. Jack is usually attractive to most and looks approachable until his mouth opens. Caring mainly for peaches of all kinds, shapes and forms he took the time to name each and every peach in the orchards he grew up in. Peaches has always been one of the quieter supers, while the rest go and defeat crime, he would typically use his abilities to train with the peaches he'd named and harvest them for the small rural area he lived in. Having very few friends at school he brought peaches and talked to them instead, and he would eventually eat them in their prime. Life was a cycle to him, and if people were dying and Jack happened to come across them, he would likely try to save them until he had no other choice but to put them out of their misery. On occasion when Rose wandered into town he would notice crime rates, and if anyone was being mugged or harmed he would crush the malcontent performing such an act. Afterwards he would return home, uncaring. He eventually managed to develop a harvesting system for the irradiated peaches which couldn't be maintained without very concentrated pesticides, and kept growing the irradiated peaches in order to maintain his powers. He never once brought them to school, nor told his grandfather about them, instead thinking cautiously just kept his own private garden far into the orchard. Since Jack was typically the harvester it did not bother anyone else. Not many know of Peaches, but many are aware of the very strange, and extremely confusing Jack Rose.
Background: Jack was five, and it was a regular day. His mother called him down for dinner and served him his regular dinner. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Unimpressed he'd remember his grandfather's farm and sing that song from the radio in his head over and over. "Now Son, you'd better eat your food, don't you want to grow up big and strong?". "I want to go to grandpa's.", he would say. His father had always had a peach for dinner, and asked why Jack wasn't allowed to partake in his family tradition. His mother would scream at his father just enough to break him and he'd leave. Jack's uncle Robert visited every now and then speaking of being a naval officer and how beautiful the world was. Jack would listen in awe about the open seas and places like Germany and France. Impressed, he took notes of his uncle's carefree demeanor, further incurring his want to leave his home. His mother had quite an issue understanding Jack's odd sense of life. "He's a %$#damn pansy, talking about how he wants peaches, I won't have him being anything like my father.", she'd yell. Jack would just scream back, "You don't like peaches? You're ****ed in the head lady, what in the $%#damn world has a &%@# hating peaches?". The retaliation only caused Jack more problems. Jack's father left, and eventually his mother became bitter and angry. She'd thrust Jack into walls, and scream at him for being like his grandfather. The same retort as always came to mind, and eventually Jacks uncle visited and had seen the damages done. He told Jack's mother off, and she came at him with a knife. Naturally the naval officer knew exactly how to protect himself, yet Jack taking no notice of this, came from behind his mother, and plunged the butcher knife off the counter through her back. "I did it Uncle Rob! I stabbed the $&%^#. Now we can eat peaches!", screamed Jack in glee. Robert looked at him in terror, yet, he knew exactly what to do. He cleaned the knife, made it look like a robbery, and took Jack to his grandfather's. There Jack spent most of his days tending to the peach trees. One day, a meteor hit out in the middle of the peach field. Jack, being the curious child he was, wandered out into the field. There he found a large crater filled with abnormal fruit. He took one and bit into it. In the very next moment he'd felt swifter, quicker, and much much happier. He noticed that the world only existed for him as long as he wanted it to. He could jump around and run faster than most, he never had any bad luck, and best of all, he could just think of a place and be there. To think, what would the world be for Jack, if he'd never liked peaches? Jack awoke in a cold sweat. The dream kept coming back, but what did it mean? His mother had been dead for years, and his uncle had been in prison ever since. Why then, did he feel like he'd caused his mother to die? Sure, he wanted her too, but it wasn't supposed to be real. He sat in his bed in the upstairs ranch guest room. He looked outside at all of the magnificent fruit beguiling him, and wondered if he'd miss his mother. She'd beaten him to a pulp countless times just because he wanted to be free enough to eat peaches whenever possible. Why the meteor? Daylight had barely broken but Jack walked through the peach orchard all the same. He noticed that some of the fruit glowed red, and was confused for a moment. Like from the dream? Could it be that I didn't dream that meteor hit... He plucked one of those irradiated beauties from the tree, and bit in. He remembered that feeling, powerlessness, and the only reason he hated his mother. She was meaty and angry. He just wanted her to stop, and he was glad his uncle had done it. Gramps wouldn't convince him otherwise no matter how hard he'd tried. Jack went to public school and was typically made fun of for being a 'dumbed down farmboy', and to this he would simply smile and go on his way. He'd had friends in school, but not many and the ones that did typically had to stash their money so as to avoid being looted. The fights Jack got into on others behalf eventually had him sent to a reform school, and the cycle repeated. All the while he was still at his farm, eating those wonderful red peaches. One day at the reform school, a kid took Jack's backpack and threw it as high as he could onto a telephone pole, luckily grasping the top of it. Enraged Jack confronted the boy whom tried to push him. Jack merely pushed his hands aside and struck with both palms to the sternum. The boy fell writhing. Jack just wanted his backpack back, so he climbed and retrieved his backpack to his content with ease. Without thinking, he jumped down and landed rolling but with absolutely no damage. The other kids in the yard decided messing with whatever this kid was wasn't exactly wise, and from that point forward Jack felt confident in his ability to defend himself, and wanted to help others as well.
Things that they do in their down time: Not only does Jack tend to the peaches, but he creates liquor. In his spare time he often creates irradiated beverages for himself. Most of his time is spent tending to the farm, naming the peaches, and caring for his dying grandfather, now senile. He tends to the peaches naming each one individually, and tries his best to maintain his lifestyle. He takes business trips into town selling peaches to the kind folks of Violet City under the guise of Mr. Dobalina, a peach farmer just on the outskirts.
Quirky Traits: He pees in sinks, and dislikes jazz music with a disproportionate passion. He is capricious in many ways, or they are. Typically will not be seen without a peach in hand, and cannot stand for others to be unkind to peaches. He is also an inventor specifically for botonous means.
Other: Jack Rose is infamous in town as the whackjob, or 'quiet serial killer'. He doesn't care for people, and they do not care for him, unless they have yet to meet him. He also plays an incredible amount of video games, and has created a very futuristic peach farm. He avoids other's scrutiny by changing his appearance at times. Dobalina however is well known for being a normal person with an odd demeanor, not much more.
Package Choice:Magical ehrm, Alien-peach eater.
Theme Music:
Those that haven't heard of the horrendous death tend to call Jack by a different name entirely.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkWs634lq10
However, those that know, have a very betwixt and cynical view, and even then they do not know whom this peaches is, no one really does..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMsgmPKCEos
He fights for truth, so that he can at last see clearly, just like everyone else.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV14jq2n-jg
Power Gained:This happened quite a long time ago, however betwixt his own confusion Jack has remained far outside the permeable barriers of sanity. He typically spends his days unknowingly caring for the farm, getting his harvest out, and keeping his grandfather as well as he possibly can. The fruit seems to help his grandfather's wounds. Ever since the transformation Jack has become more than aware of his insignificance and allows it to toil into the back of his mind. He dislikes business although each trip provides him with enough small money to continue to buy new supplies for his inventions. It would seem business called again today, and he would have to head into town.
As I watch the stars atop this weary town, I find myself a clueless clown, amongst those who find themselves happy to dilly and dally while they toil away their lives. Those entrapped within their own entropy are kinder to others than they are themselves, but in being kind to others they lock away a very dark reality.
The truth within my conflicted mind is not that I dare seek to step among the elite or fade into the wind gathering my decrepit whims. My hollow heart keeps me among the greatest of all, and contemplation writhes me to my damnedest. Do I sleep, or do I move on? WELL, there sunny, don't feel down, your anxious mournings lay around, and as you speak beseeching kind words, you find in case that the absurd, is you of course, OH HO, so daring, that you would find my broad wisdom, GLARING, down upon such a woeful meaningless rat amongst foul wind. You are here to TAKE their sin. Show them, watch them, be them. Now silence.
The quiet one looks to the trees, to his peaches, to his hands, they are meaningless. In this way he is nothing. In this way he is everything. You lose not meaning among culprit exchanges of the self, for once you venture in, you will find that you are many, and that many subversively make all. The still-minded bit into a peach and sat in blank twitch.
Post of the Month Winner Announced!
Another month and another selection of wonderful posts for our judges to wade through.
Now, with no further delay: the Post of the Month winner for May 2013 is ... irishking7777!
You can read irishking7777's winning entry here. Please congratulate him for his exemplary work.
The pages of this site are full of Player Characters doing amazing things, with detailed descriptions illuminating every success. It's not quite so common to find a thorough and thoughtfully constructed description of abject failure, but that's just what irishking7777 turns in with this post. Then, he takes it a step further - discovered in his attempt at subterfuge, he draws on everything he's observed to put those who've just exposed him on the defensive. It's a cunning - and surely somewhat desperate - ploy, and we're anxious to see how it ends for him.
The other nominations for May 2013 can be read here. Each is an exceptional entry and well worth the read.
The PotM contest for June is going on even as you read this. Be sure to nominate your favorite posts from the month of June.
PM’s are great and all, but the inbox has limited space. So I figured that it was easier for each of my players to have their own thread, visible only to myself and them, for private correspondence.
Off the bat, there are two things we should attend to here:
•	Your Wishlist
•	Your ‘game strategy’
The first point is pretty straight-forward
The middle point is in reference to my rules about if you ever miss a combat post. To let me play like you would, I ask that, when you know it yourself, you make a ‘default strategy’ for your character. This can be as vague (I always attack the biggest) to as detailed (If I drop to 35% I will spend a healing surge then use an action point to use the ability [Ability Name] on the ranged enemy) as you want, as long as, should the event occur where you are awol for combat for whatever reason, I can at least make your character still contribute to the fight.
This is a homebrew prestige class I've been playing with.
The goals of this prestige class:
-Be comparable in damage output and versatility to tier 3 classes like Warblade and Swordsage.
-Be a ranged paragon without going too heavily into divine spellcasting like the Ranger.
-Be well suited for solo games (most of the games I run).
-Be 'dip' friendly offering solid rewards for players who might want to only take a few levels to solidify their character build or help get some pre-requisites.
-Offer compelling new options for players who opt for the full 10 level run.
-Not to be too restrictive in pre-requisites so that players so that players feel they need to tailor their character too much for the PrC.
The guard 'hmmphed' at Nymira's words and looked her and the rest of the group up and down. He looked undecided but a woman walked over from across the wide street and laid a hand on his arm. The guard and his fellows looked surprised and they all bowed their heads to her. "What can we help you with this fine day Lady Evelyn."
"I am not royalty so you do not need to Lady me. I am here to vouch for my nephew and his companions and ask that you allow them into the city." She placed a hand on Rim's arm with a smile as she said it but continued to look at the guard.
All of the guards looked surprised before the guard they were speaking with replied. "Of course, please excuse me for not allowing them in at once, I did not know you were expecting family."
"I did not leave word, I'm not used to company as I'm sure you know. Thank you Sir Barrison," Rim's aunt gestured for the group to follow her and without waiting she turned and moved off down the street. Now that she had announced her relationship with Rim a family resemblance could be seen.
She barely paused or even turned tolook if the group was following before leading them for nearly seven blocks before arriving at a large house. The door opened as she approached it and she swept in, hanging her cloak on a coat rack just inside the door. She waited for everyone to enter before she moved and embraced Rim. "How lovely to see you again Rim although I daresay you won't recall the last time, you were so young. I heard you received my gift to you. Don't look so surprised dear, your parents sent me a rather scathing letter about it." She looked past Rim to the rest of the group. "I am Evelyn Kealling, it is nice to meet all of you. Would any of you care for refreshments or a chance to wash the dust from the road before we all speak? Lady Kalantha, welcome to my home."
"Thank you...Evelyn. You look familiar but I'm not certain we have met before." Kalantha was studying Evelyn's features as she replied.
"No, we have never been introduced but I hold an advisory seat to the City Council and I have been in attendance when you have visited."
Kalantha nodded and recognition flashed in her eyes. "Ah yes, you advised them against the proposal sent by the crown last year, I do remember."
Evelyn only laughed, "I did Lady Kalantha and I heard the crown dropped the project but not because of my advice to the Council."
"They did indeed, it seems your perspective was more accurate than those at court so the King cancelled the project. It is nice to meet you face to face. I would not mind a chance to get cleaned up if I might intrude on your hospitality."
"It is no intrusion Lady Kalantha," Evelyn replied and a man in servant's livery was already walking out from another room. "Tomas will show you to a room and one of the girls will draw a bath for you." Kalantha gave her thanks and followed Tomas up some stairs.
Once Lady Kalantha was out of sight, Evelyn went into a sitting room. "While I am delighted to see you Rim and meet the rest of you, please tell me what brings you here. I suspect it was not as an escort to Lady Kalantha."
Rain was pouring down on muddied streets. The click clack of horse's hooves dragged its way to the keep on the water's edge. Sadness hung like a cloud over Saerloon following the news of the king's death.
As the knight's travelling entourage came into the enclosed space beneath the keep, the gate was closed by a town guard and stable boys came from out of their shelter to help the knight and his followers dismount and take their horses to stable. The door of the keep was opened and the enticing sound of a crackling fire could be heard for those who made their way inside.
Sir Corwin's fellows made into the hall and warmed their cold hands by the fireside. When Lady Rush entered the hall, they were quick to pay her the proper respects by bowing deep and awaiting her first spoken words.
OOC: Here we go! Happy rolling, guys.
If anything is unclear, don't be afraid to ask.
This goes for both of you, I haven't finished your cohorts and followers and all that but I will do that soon. I just wanted to get the ball rolling. Feel free to come up with names and genders for your cohorts if you wish to include them in your posts.
Aramil stood before the tower but saw little that indicated life existed. A solitary lantern at the door kept the night at bay and was the only welcome sight. The same night had fallen suddenly on the elven rider but undeterred by the darkness he had ridden on the past hour in order to make his arrival at the Hadwin place.
The city-dweller dismounted his palfrey and led it to a post near the door. In the light of the lantern, Aramil once more glanced over the letter and the directions included and upon confirming that he was indeed at the right place. He lit the papers with the fire of the lantern and banged his fist against the heavy door to announce his arrival.
The thump resounded but no reaction was heard for some time. After some time though, the door was unbolted and a stout woman who listened to the name of Erna appeared with a lantern in hand. Her first reaction to the pointed ears were to close the door but instead she stopped herself before it fully slammed shut.
"What you doing 'ere?" She shouted through the crack. "We got no room for visitors 'ere. Better off trying the villagers."
She was about to close the door fully when Aramil stopped her and informed that he had arrived to see Lord Hadwin.
Erna let the light of her lantern shine on the elf through the crack of the door and after a few moments opened the door.
"I suppose you had better come in then," she said as she turned towards a stairwell. "Milord! There be a city-dweller here to see ya!"
Today was the graduates very first day as official Ninja of the leaf.
The day before the graduating class had been called back to the Academy for one last time and handed out their Team assignments. Kabutomushi Aburame , Mekii Sinoguri and Nishi Okane would form Team Eight under the Jounin Kyara Aburame and as such were instructed to meet their Jounin the following morning at eight AM at training ground eight.
Training ground eight was located on the outskirts of Konoha at the west side of the village.
"No!" The word was hissed, as though coated in poison. "You are all worms to me! You will not destroy me here!" The speaker slammed against the walls of force that formed her impenetrable cage. Each impact crackled with blue lightning, its flash turning the courtyard of the fortress into day for a brief instant and causing the elven soldiers gathered around to flinch.
Only by the light of these impacts was the form of the speaker visible: a beautiful woman with elvish features, naked. Dried leaves were woven into her midnight black hair and her skin seemed to possess more in common with stained timber than flesh. Her eyes flashed like midnight fire as she threw herself against her cage, again and again.
An elven ranger stepped towards the magical cage, his face grim but determined. "For the agony you have inflicted upon thousands of our kin, we condemn you to death. You no longer rule the elves here, tyrant." Turning, the ranger gestured for the imprisoned woman to see. In the middle of the courtyard stood a gnarled oak. Its branches were bare of vegetation and it almost seemed to pulse in the dim moonlight. The ranger raised his hand as he glanced at the woman trapped beside him. "Now." His hand fell.
At the ranger's signal, two large elves with axes began to hack away at the tree. Each time an ax stroke fell, the imprisoned woman howled in rage. Soon, black sap began to gush out of the notches as though it were blood, the sight of which turned the woman's howls into screams of pain. "No! I will not die this way!"
In reply, the ranger turned and spat at the woman. "It is too good a death for you, dryad. I agree. But do not worry. We shall use fire soon enough."
With a groan, the oak shifted and fell. Branches snapped and splintered as it crashed into the ground. The dryad shrieked, all of the color leaving her face as she slumped to the floor, helpless and slowly dying.
Cheering in victory, the gathered soldiers charged the fallen tree. They snapped off limbs and started gathering them into a pile which was soon ablaze. As it burned, they began to work on cutting the rest of the trunk into manageable pieces, starting at the crown.
During this, a small elven man slipped into the flickering shadows near the base of the fallen oak, unnoticed by his peers. Kneeling down, he began to massage the wood while whispering softly. Soon the wood was as malleable as putty in his hands. He quickly gathered as much of it as he could, leaving no trace of its removal and storing its bulk in a sack that showed no signs it was being filled. When he had gathered a significant amount, he stood and made his way out of the courtyard, still unseen.
Turning back to the fortress once he reached the tree line, the elven man patted the sack at his side. Then he vanished into the forest.
Then, as you pass by a large boulder, you realize you've passed by this same boulder not long ago: you're lost.
As if to taunt you, the skies grow darker and the soft snow quickly turns into a blizzard. The wind howls as it rips past you, the fierce snow completely blocking all sight. Wandering blindly for hours, you finally stumble into a forest clearing. Some strange configuration of the surrounding tree line appears to be keeping the blizzard from fully assaulting the area: only a simple dusting of snow has accumulated on the ground.
Just to the east of the ruined city of Neverwinter sits the peaceful farming village of Aldpine. At least, Aldpine used to be peaceful until some strange occurrences began happening in and around the village.
The most pressing concern revolves around a band of gnolls that have taken up residence in the forest around the village and have begun attacking caravans and travelers entering the village. This wouldn't be too strange, gnolls being evil and not too uncommon, if it weren't for how they were acting. The gnolls only seem to be attacking the wealthier and well off merchants and any travelers with obviously valuable goods, stealing the valuables and often leaving victims of the raids alive, which is highly unusual. Anyone who looks to be poor is miraculously left alone. Gnolls are known for their viciousness, not their greed. The worst part is that the normally nomadic gnolls have stayed around Aldpine for over 6 months. The mayor of Aldpine, out of options and facing a trade deficit, has finally sent out for help from any intrepid adventurers willing to tackle the little village's gnoll problem.
Little do these adventurers know, that what on the surface appears to be a straight forward mission will only serve as the beginning to a life changing and possibly world altering experience.
As a general note, I like the idea of Skill Tricks introduced in what I believe was Complete Adventurer. What I didn't like, however, was needing to use precious skill points to "unlock" tricks or to take prestige classes to get access to these tricks.
Instead, I saw skill tricks as simply a guide to making use of skills that you have high ranks in. As such, characters have access to skill tricks when they meet the prerequisites set out below.
I've also decided to break up skill tricks into 1) abilities that can be used automatically during time frames (daily or hourly) so long as they have sufficient ranks in that skill and 2) skill tricks that can be performed if a skill roll is succeeded as a free action in addition to other actions which are completed regardless.
What this means is that if you have the ranks in these skills, or if you develop the ranks in these skills, you can use these abilities.
MYSTERY OF THE BLACK FANG
About a week later, your guild is finally open for business, but it seems that people seem little to not interested in your guild, perhaps if you would become more famous, you'd spark more of an interest.
Noticing your bulletin board outside, a local crier pins a notice onto it. Amelia quickly exits after she spies on the crier placing the notice, eager to read it. As she reads her very first guild note, written upon it is the following:
" Your hometown of Sandpoint is a quaint seaside settlement that periodically has problems with monsters, such as goblins, ghouls, the occasional magical abomination or a fierce outsider looking to take over the world, but the citizens always manage to endure and survive. Lately, however, a far greater danger has come to threaten the town.
A few weeks ago, livestock started to disappear from nearby farms. Sometimes a half-eaten corpse is found, sometimes only bloodstains. The people of Sandpoint are afraid, and mayor Kendra Deverin is growing desperate.
She hopes some heroes will volunteer to search out this menace and put an end to it before it kills a person. She’s offered a reward of 1,000 gold pieces to the group that stops this mysterious creature. Although no one has seen the killer directly, a long black fang was found in one of the animal corpses, prompting the locals to dub the unseen
killer “Black Fang.”
Black Fang, as far as we know, is living in an old cave not too far from town, which has been used as a den for many monsters over the years. Should you be able to defeat the beast, you must bring proof of your victory. Good luck, and may the gods watch over you. "
A 1000 GOLD PIECES? Amelia thinks. That's exactly what the guild needs, more finance. With this much money they can afford all the advertisement they need, and fresh new resources.
On the inside, the guild had been renovated. The walls painted and shined, the bars stocked with O.K quality beer, food is stored in controlled temperatures, and all seems well off inside.
This is your mission, should you choose to accept it.
<fieldset><legend>Background</legend>
The setting is heavily inspired by the Gap Cycle. If you don't know what that is, don't worry. If you do, hopefully you agree I've stolen just the right amount to run my game :).
It was only natural that at some point earth would need to grow beyond its own bounds. The demand for metal, iron in particular, eventually inspired a few private mining companies to pierce the veil of space. The Moon and Mars were the first targets. Their relative proximity to Earth lead to a simply extraordinary boom in resources for the companies involved. With no governing bodies to enforce inter-planetary mining or imports, these companies quickly grew obscenely rich, dwarfing even the internet giants of the previous century in scale and power.
Under the research credit of one such company, a space-born scientist named Ponsey made her cat vanish. She quickly because the laughing stock of the scientific community... until the cat was found frozen and asphyxiated on the surface Mars over sixty million kilometers away the next week. The patent for this was owned by IHC, who (most consider foolishly) sold it to a man named Frost for a small fortune. Frost was a sergeant in an Earth-based police force at the time, so the question of where the money came from coated his name in scandal for many years. Using his new technology, Frost began secretive development and was not heard from for nearly a decade. At the end of it, he announced his vision and his price. The Nolana, a Gap Class Interceptor. Outfitted with a newly dubbed Gap Engine, it could traverse miraculous distances in the blink of an eye. The only thing it needed to do so where several tonnes of supercomputer to make the calculations needed to safely cross the "gap".
Frost declared himself director of the Interplanetary Police Force (IPF), and with his new technology and lack of jurisdiction from any other country, nobody could do a thing to stop him. Frost then sold his ships to the various mining companies in the understanding that in traversing the Gap for travel, they were taxable to him.
IPF and Frost became obscenely rich and powerful under this scheme, but not nearly as rich as the the mining companies who had just discovered a newly accessible treasure trove of iron for industry; The asteroid belt. With this new find, the United Mining Cooperation (UMC) was formed, and, after Frost's death at the age of 173, the oldest human to date, they bought out IPF. IPF became United Mining Cooperation Police, UMCP, who operated on a charter from UPC.
It was then that everything changed. A UMC mining scout, the Jackson, was getting strange readings in a far away star system. Such trips were too expensive to make for practical mining purposes, but technology was getting closer to making inter-system mining a possibility. Scouting them to be aware of the available resources was therefore common practice. The Jackson's distress pod reached the UMCP cruiser Full Breath within the day. When they arrived at the distant system (now famously knows as system 1188) a day later, the crew of the Jackson handed over a single pod. First Contact with an alien artifact. Full Breath made record time on her return to Earth.
Contained within the pod was a small amount of organic material; A viral vector.
Hot debate raged about jurisdictional rights, ethics and access between the UMC and GCES (Galactic Council for Earth and Space) raged for weeks. This was all brought to a world-halting climax when a certain Nora Frost, direct descendant of Frost, live streamed to all of Earth herself being injected with the material with no permission or consent from either other party.
The next several hours of footage were painful to behold, as she slowly began losing skin, eye colour and oxygen-tolerance. Eventually oxygen poisoning killed her.
Researchers on Earth could only conclude that the vector was designed to communicate by turning a host into an alien.
Later contact over radio indicated that there was no doubt. It was an alien race called the Amnion attempting to make first contact. Xenophobia suddenly gripped earth tighter than any plague ever could.
</fieldset>
<fieldset><legend>Present Day</legend>
Fist and second contact happened 59 and 55 years ago respectively. Earth is much as it was during the 21st Century. Some parts full of crime, gangs and violence, and others filled with beauty and wonder.
The UMCP are now a militarized organization on the payroll of UMC, chartered towards prevention of piracy in the belt and defense of human kind from any Amnion threat. Space-piracy itself is punishable by life in prison or death. To make this easier to enforce, all new ships are build with DMOS Datacores; these permanently record all of a ship's actions, communications and scan logs. All attempts to modify them fail... and will also be recorded. Naturally, this sparked huge controversy about privacy and freedom. It is therefore required that somebody have evidence leveled against them before their ship's datacore can be examined. This legal technicality is how pirates survive. They cannot be caught unless they leave a clue it was them. Once evidence is leveled, however, datacores have quite often damned whole crews to prison or worse.
Communication is either done at the speed of light or by sending pods equipped with a gap drive to a target.
Hi all. This will (obviously) be my first game. I'm a bit nervous about posting this, but I've read around and I think I have the correct idea. I just hope the game doesn't have zero interest.
This game will start off as cops and robbers in space, but quicly turn to the strange and murky world of alien ethics, forced surgery, artificial intelligence and deep space.
I am currently on a 12 month internship, so we have at least 12 months to play before I return to school. When I return to school, I don't really see why this couldn't keep going, but small steps.
I think a post rate of 2-3 per week would be optimum for me, but I will take my players preferences into consideration.
Pirates can be anything, really. As black-hearted as possible, or just in it for the money. Similarly with traders and miners. UMCP generally have a strict book to follow, like any Navy, however, that's a very general guideline.
Please write less than 1500 words about your character that make them fit in the setting and be good candidates for the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions.
2. Combat? What are the weapons of this dimension? Lazers, phazers, or good ol' fashion guns and bullets? Bullet's don't shoot well in zero-g ;)
3. If the Gap's are like "warping", are there still starships that travel without making leaps? What kind of tech are they? (Serenity, Normandy, Enterprize, Millenium Falcon?
1. Let's say the 1st of July .
2. I totally meant to do a paragraph about this. Lasers are common weapons for hand-helds, as are good old slug-throwing guns. Bullets in fact work wonderfully in zero g! Spaceship based weapons include torpedoes/nukes on ships which can afford the extra weight (military only basically). There is also the Matter Cannon, which fires very small amounts of matter very close to the speed of light. It is a very effective weapon in space, requiring only power, but not ammo. It completely loses its effect firing into atmosphere, however. The Amnion have a weapon called a Super-light proton cannon which humans have been unable to reproduce.
3. Yes, there are many that work without gap drive. They are mostly confined to a single planet because of travel times, but can be hauled around on gap-capable carriers. Maybe think Millenium Falcon without hyperdrive. Mostly storage space with a few guns for self defense.
4. It is still a fuel source, but most of space now runs on nuclear power. So does most of civilized earth. Other planets, often not so concerned with their environment, use other fuels sometimes.
Good questions all.
Here's a small note on travel and gap.
<fieldset><legend>Space Travel</legend>To function properly, gap drive needs very precise inputs as far was power and vessel speed go. In order to successfully traverse the gap, a ship must be moving precisely the correct speed in the direction the want to go, and activate their gap drive with a very precise and fast spike of energy. If these conditions are not observed, targets are overshot, ships are torn apart, or they simply never cross out of the gap. For an average ship to make the transition from far earth orbit to the belt about 20 minutes of hard acceleration are required to set up the jump. Once in a region, several hours of hard g are often required to go the rest of the distance. I'll write up an in-game mechanic to handle this this week.
Approximately one percent get 'gap sickness' upon their first traversal of the gap; a condition which permanently effects the human brain in very unpredictable ways. Sufferers of gap sickness are usually confined until return to a station because of the danger they pose to a ship.</fieldset>
I'll edit all this into the first post.</fieldset>
</fieldset>
The usually lively tavern is empty. Sarah is not there, nor Pel or Hibrin. As the owners, they should be here, who was going to serve you warm mulled wine. As you walk further into the tavern you realize that the patrons are not the only things missing. Both of the large barrels of wine are gone. That was Hibrin's pride and was to last through the winter. This will not do at all. Then the thought occurs to you, why were all the candles lit? Why was the fireplace roaring and supplying the usual warmth on the cold winters night as it always has if no one is here?
Maybe this is worth some looking around.
You are all arriving nearly at the same time. Work is over for the day and most have gone to their homes for a nice read and soon to sleep. Those with some spirit left, like yourselves often find yourselves in the White Caps, warmed by the wine and fire, it makes winter easier to bare.
You also already know each other - have a little talk in OOC about your characters to build a little familiarity before the first posts.
