Yes, I am familiar with that concept. However, in terms of "becoming" it, a doppelganger has a unique freedom: that it is able to literally shapechange into the attacker. Given this freedom, the most realistic way for the doppelganger to relive the moment would be to become its ex-husband, then target women who have a similar appearance to that which was robbed from the doppelganger. There is no need for a mechanical labyrinth (and I still contest even the possibility of its existence given the setting) in order to recreate the tragedy.
