Yup, when you are using the two-handed battle axe, that is correct.

From Chapter 9, Page 14: Balinor and Barakk wander around town searching for a mill. Actually, now that they think about it, there was a large mill that the party passed whenever they walked down to the Haunted Halls, not too far from the House of the Morning - sure enough, they find it, the most northernly building in town, connected to the Starwater River. The mill is surrounded by a house, vegetable garden, and grain warehouse. There is also an appetizing onion aroma wafting around the place. Balinor asks a pimply townsperson who is passing by about the owner of the place; the man replies, "Deltar Tummarlin," before he hastily walks away. |

Balinor then goes inside, asking Deltar whether he is willing to sell the place or not. Deltar is inside, doing business as usual, it seems. Deltar looks surprised and somewhat perturbed at Balinor's offer, saying, "I process all the grain and crops for Eveningstar's farmers here - I don't think you would want that job, do you? This is my livelihood and home, and I am afraid that I cannot sell for any reason. Not to mention - you wouldn't want to live here, anyway." Somewhat more kindly, he says, "Here, kids - don't look so disappointed - you can even try an onion loaf for free, here you go." He then takes one of his foot-long loaves, and tears it in half to give a half to Balinor and Barakk each. The bread is liberally spiced with groundroot, leeks, and onion and is still warm. |

Balinor says, "I thank you," taking a bite of the bread. "Mmmmm, very good bread, kind sir. I will make my own mill, though. I have dreamed of such a home. I like this area well. I don't want to compete with you. My main business will be blacksmithing. I'll use the mill wheel to drive an automatic hammer. I will also have a grind stone so I'll take work griding wheat and corn and other grains." Nodding, he then moves on to explore further upstream. With a quizzical look, Deltar mumbles, "But that is competing with me!" as Balinor and Barakk walk away. Moving further upstream, you note that Deltar's Mill is the last building on the river; besides, the river soon opens into a large pool (small lake?). Just where the pool begins, you can see Old Meg's Hut a small distance away (away from the water); around here are lots of trees. |

Balinor looks back over his shoulder. "I don't want to, but I will. This would mostly be for my own use. I will not cut into your livelihood as it will not be my main source of income. We can work together." He then stops and surveys the pool. "Hmmm, looks like we will have to go further upstream above this pool. Or mabe make a deal with Deltar for a feed off his wheel for the hammer and forget about grain grinding," he says, going further upstream. Deltar shakes his head a bit, returning to his mill. Walking upstream, you follow the familiar path to the Haunted Halls. As usual, after a while, the pool condenses back into a river, but the path becomes more rocky as you get closer to the Starwater Gorge. The further you go, the rockier the sides of the river become; as you remember, the Halls, of course, are accessed from a large fissure in one of the western rockfaces. OOC: Note: Balinor is not an engineer! He has no idea how to make a mill-powered hammer (which would not be as good as a hand-wielded hammer, anyway); although Tursin might be able to figure it out (since he is an engineer) and direct Balinor to built it, but it is someone unusual (and new), so he would require a proficiency check to succeed. More typical mills (like a mill for polishing metal) would not require a proficiency check, though. Last edited by Edo; 11-05-2007 at 08:04 PM. |

Balinor then brings Barakk to explore the Starwater River in the other direction; past Deltar's mill, there are several houses with small farms; near a bridge on the eastern part of town you see what looks like a ruin (maybe it was an inn of some kind?) of some sort. Following the river further south, there are some trees and buildings are somewhat sparser; soon you see a kind of stables. The south part of town is mostly just trees around the river; you also note that most of town appears to be on this side of the river (the other side of the river has only a few buildings, mostly around the bridge). |

Balinor decides to go to the Lonesome Tankard to make some inquires, taking Barakk along. He orders whiskey and asks about the old place, asking for the owner and whether the place is for sale. Dunman Kiriag, the jovial and kindly owner of the place, notifies Balinor that they do not serve whiskey, but he does recommend various ales. Regarding the ruins, he says, "That there was the inn called the Welcoming Hand - in its day it was the most well-known inn in this town. It burned down about a decade ago - one rumor says that a foul beast from another plane caused the blaze. The owner unfortunately was caught in the fire, too - so there's no owner now. If you want to rebuild it and take the place as yours, you'd best talk to Lord Tessaril for permission." Balinor then asks where he can find Tessaril, where Dunman points to a large stone house with a porch running along its entire front, just two houses south from the inn. Thanking Dunman, Balinor and Barakk then walk to the building. There, you notice a Purple Dragon standing guard in front of the house. |

Balinor asks the guard, "Good day, would Lord Tessaril be in by any chance?" The guard smiles in recognition, replying, "Oh, I know you - you're one of the young fellas who helped save our king! You don't seem to be from around here - but you've earned our respect for sure! Lord Tessaril is actually out right now looking for you and the rest of your party - perhaps you will bump into her later." |

Balinor says his thanks to the guard. "I'm just doing my job, much like you," he winks and heads back to meet up with the rest of the party, with (the rather quiet) Barakk following.
