Misuse of Magic
He is now a staff member and has been for seven years, he teaches all his classes in a field in the House Green grounds. There he sits on a tree stump as his class gathers before him on the grass. Misuse of magic is a class that is filled by students from every House in equal numbers. Last edited by Nickolie; 05-23-2009 at 01:37 PM. |

Running almost late, Elysia bustles hurriedly into the field. Her nap earlier had run long, and now she pats her sweaty brow down. Carefully combing stray hairs back into place with a white hand, she looks around for an open place to sit. As expected, there was little space within the gathering, so she resigns herself to sitting at the near edge amongst a group of students from mixed houses. Sitting down, legs sprawled out in exhaustion, she places her tote bag on her lap without opening it. Finally, after a few moments of rest, she looks around her to find anyone she might recognize.

Line welcomes the class and skips any intro today, as it is the second week of class anyway. He goes right in to talking about the difference between a spell that is evil, and a spell that is wrong. An evil spell causes undo harm to others, and while he does not much like this type of magic not all of it is wrong as far as the rules of this class care. A spell that is deemed wrong is on that is untested, unstable or presence a negative image of casters everywhere.
He listed a few spells most of them had never heard of that were wrong, then he laughingly added that a spell does not need to be innately wrong, to be used in a wrong manner. He then asks the class to for a spell, and a means of use or place that would make it wrong, by the teachings of this class. |

Silence steals over the plains as the class ponders the question. One by one, the class members begin shouting out responses while Elysia begins to draw a blank. Pressing her forefinger against her lips in a thoughtful pose, she listens to the others' responses to think of an idea. Oh, that was a good one...

"Oh yes, mind-altering magic is a full chapter of this class. As well, summoning magic will take up a good part as well. Both are powerful, useful and dangerous magic that can be twisted."
He commented on a few of the other thing said, some where wrong. Necromancy was a point a lot of the students spoke on, so Line saw it needed for him to clear a few things up. "Raising the dead to do your will is likely evil, not always, but mostly. This aside, it is not allows right, or wrong. It is a gray area. Many teachers here, and many more students are in fact necromancers. It is a path that takes great care to walk, but it is a path the school sees as no worse than that of the wizard who learns to throw fire." |

Confused, Elysia rapidly raises a hand and voices a question. "But Professor Line... when would creating the undead not be an evil practice? Are not undead by definition evil? Doesn't a necromancer violate the sanctity of the dead by twisting and corrupting their bodies to his purpose?"
