Character Info:

Name: Often Mistaken for Wise
Race: Goblin
Class: Monk
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Flaw (if any): Shaky (-2 on Ranged Attack Rolls)
Description: Mistaken (though he would much rather be referred to as wise) is short, even for a goblin, and scrawny, though his wiry muscles make him much stronger than he looks. He has many scars, including one very noticeable scar which runs along his jawline up around his right eye and back down the bridge of his nose. He dresses, when possible, in plain clothing and sandals, though he has often been seen to go naked for lack of proper attire. The reasons behind his inability to find what should be relatively available attire are unknown, because he refuses to talk about it.
Background: Mistaken was sent from his village to a 'monastery' by his parents when he was very young. The 'monastery' turned out to be little more than a work camp where the young goblins (and other monsters), were forced to mine ore 10 hours a day six days a week for seven years in return for two years of intensive combat training which would, supposedly, let them better protect their villages when they returned.
Mistaken always felt that this was a scam. A feeling that was strongly reinforced when, on the day of his return, his village was attacked by adventurers from Brassmoon. These adventurers slaughtered most of the village, and took the remaining goblins prisoner to sell for 'kicks and giggles'. Mistaken's 'advanced combat abilities' got him nowhere in the fight...well that's not entirely true, they got him caught in a net.
Taken to Brassmoon and turned in for bounty Mistaken and six other goblins fell into the clutches of the 'Brave and Strong' yet incredibly sadistic Dellyn Goblinslayer by whom he was tortured for three years before the Jailbreak. Mistaken actually proved to be an annoyance to Goblinslayer because of the one thing that he learned well during his time in the 'monastery'...empty-mind meditation. Every time that Goblinslayer came to torture him Mistaken would simply check-out mentally and allow his body to endure the torment while his mind practiced the combat techniques which he had learned. This had the three-fold result of making him much more useful in the breakout then he had been in the original attack on his village, infuriating Goblinslayer, which explains Mistaken's extremely scarred physique, and making him crazier than a gibberling because of so much time spent stuck inside his own head. This insanity has manifested in a breakdown of his coherent personality into seven distinct 'voices' each of which represent a portion of himself. While his discipline and devotion to the law are intact he can often be seen talking to himself, discussing the best course of action before (or sometimes while) taking it.
During the breakout Mistaken was useful, though certainly not as useful as the rampaging Ogre's or the chaos caused by that Shield of Wonder, still useful though. He was also smart enough not to get caught inside the walls when the gates came down and crossbow bolts started flying. Now that he has escaped Mistaken has two goals; one, find out if any other Goblins from his village survived their incarceration, and two, find that stupid 'monastery' and burn it to the ground...stupid fake monks with their ore mining ways...

Name: Inandi
Race: Drow
Class: Monk
Flaw: Inattentive -- Inandi's damaged mind leaves her prone to 'spacing out'
Alignment:Lawful Neutral (May swing more toward LE, depending on the rest of the party's alignment.)

Description: Inandi is runty even for a drow -- she is only barely an adult by elven standards, and was not full grown when captured. She has a number of white patterns tattooed on her face and arms, and many self-inflicted scratches mixed in with the wounds given to her by the Goblinslayer. Her red eyes often have an unsettling, vacant look as though she's not really all there. Her hair is a tangled shoulder-length mess, and she tends to be either obsessive or utterly apathetic about things, with no middle ground. She has several nervous tics, (including fidgeting with her snarled hair and biting her nails until they bleed.) and alternates between talking at length and then not speaking for hours at a time. She is absolutely merciless towards betrayal and broken promises, and will often hold you to the literal truth of what you say to her. Her night vision is far reduced from what a drow would normally have, due to spending her formative years on the surface. She was never much for caves, but prison has made her downright claustrophobic.

Background:
Inandi is a foundling who was raised in a distant monastery known as the Temple of the Heavenly Javelin, which worshipped an obscure deity known as Assuran, god of poetic justice, (if you'll let me yoink from Forgotten Realms, if not I'll find something else.) in a mountain range far to the East. She was an energetic and well-meaning child, though sometimes her 'trying to help' just got her underfoot. She was prone to being hasty, in her eagerness to keep up with the other children -- being one of the few non-human initiates of the monastery meant she was left behind as the children 'her age' outgrew her, outstripped her, and got old before she even hit adolescence. It also meant she grew very close with the only other elf child nearby, a girl named Arianne whose mother was a cleric, and intended to become one herself. The two were near-inseparable growing up, and eventually struck out into the world together.

Though her upbringing was extremely cloistered, it was always heavily impressed upon her by her mentors that while discipline and good behavior were always important, it was especially important for her, because strangers would always be quicker to judge her and less tolerant of her mistakes. As such, Inandi became quite the stickler Lawful Good, and was extremely meticulous about following rules -- even more so after she began traveling and discovered her mentors' assessment to be the truth. She was polite to a fault, to the point where she could be a bit of a doormat. Inandi firmly believed so long as she Followed The Rules, nothing too terribly bad would happen to her, and any misunderstandings that did occur could be corrected with honesty. She was proven wrong on the roads outside of Brassmoon, when she and Arienne encountered and were defeated by the Goblinslayer. Arienne was killed, 'obviously evil' as she traveled in the company of a drow, but Inandi was kept alive as a specimen for the Goblinslayer's prisons.

She was one of the earliest non-goblin additions to the Goblinslayer's collection, and has been in the dungeons for a long, long time. Her mind broke there -- she told Him where her monastery was. Several times. She doesn't remember if any of her answers were true -- it is doubtful she could find her way back if she wanted too. She believes she must have somehow deserved her torture for Assuran to have allowed it to happen to her, that she must have transgressed somehow without realizing it, and now obsesses over Rules more than ever. Because she serves a god of justice, she has a hard time dealing with the fact that something horrible happened to her for no reason other than bad luck. During the break-out, she went on a bloodthirsty vengeance spree, and had to be dragged out the gate by someone possessing more sense than her.

Name: Pyslassa
Race: Kobold
Class: Sorcerer 3
Flaw:
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral (tending toward good or evil depending on the 'point of view')

Description: Pyslassa stands a meager 2 feet 7 inches tall and weighs less than 50 pounds; average for a Kobold. He scales are a dark reddish black, with brighter, deeper red markings on the ridges above his eyes. He has bright red eyes and is about to leave young adulthood at the age of 9. Prior to being captured, Pyslassa often wore an open scarlet-colored robe and simple silken breeches when not working the mines of his subterranean warren. Since being captured, all his former cloths have long since been ruined, and all he has been able to scrounge up are dirty cotton rags from some other poor soul.
Pyslassa was like most Kobolds up until his capture; perfectly fine with being overlooked and underestimated and perfectly happy living with his tribe. He had not experienced many other races up until this point, and was okay with that. After being captured, he was exposed to the multitude of cultures and people that were being held there and was amazed. None were as high and mighty as the kobolds, descendants of the great dragons, but it was interesting to meet others. Pyslassa would often sit quiet and observe others, trying to to attract attention and playing into the notion that he was a weakling, content to eat well and not have to deal with so much torture.

Background: Life prior to being captured was pretty standard for Pyslassa. He was granted the powers of sorcery through his draconic bloodline, but work must not stop. Despite the respect and a slightly higher standard of living within the tribe Pyslassa gained by being a sorcerer, he was still required to mine and help with the defense of the warren. His powers grew quickly, but were not enough to save him and his tribe. One day him and his patrol was attacked on the surface while foraging for supplies and conducting some espionage. Most were killed, but him and about four others were taken alive back to a large city.
Pyslassa came to know this city as Brassmoon City and his captors worked for Dellyn Goblinslayer, a wicked man who enslaved and tortured all manor of creatures. The torture was heinous, and all manor of equipment and techniques were used. Pyslassa did his best to avoid Dellyn's guards when they came to get new victims, but when he was chosen he would pretend to pass out shortly into the torture. This got him branded as a weak little toad, but he came away better off than most. Besides the torture, Pyslassa did quite well in the prisons scrounging for food in the garbage and eating whatever was available when it got too cool for his cold-bloodedness to sustain himself.
One day all that changed though. Out of nowhere, a goblin ran into the dungeons and started unlocking the cells and manacles of the creatures held there. After being unlocked Pyslassa joined the mob of scurrying and trampling creatures trying to equip themselves and find exits. Pyslassa found his way out onto the street and was able to escape into the dark alleyways with another kobold, a pair of goblins.

PhoenixTalion: You should name the crossbow simply as "Light crossbow" and the ammunition "Brassmoon city quiver". The weapon itself is not magical, only the ammunition.

Name: Izith (or "Slave" if you want to make an enemy of him)
Race: Githzerai
Class: Cleric
Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Description:
He is thin even for a Githzerai, but this may pass unnoticed against the shock of his face. Around his yellow eyes scar tissue and bare bone reveal the mutilation that traced around his once permanent scowl. Cut deep and angular into his tortured brow the word "SLAVE" is clear to see. Despite this, the rest of his lank body seems in good condition and his posture steady.

Background:
Izith was brought to this plane, shortly before adulthood, by his parents. They followed another of their kind who sought to establish a new Githzerai Monastery, a place from which to watch the enemies of their people and better plan the defence of their freedoms. Yet before this monastery could be properly established the pioneers were brazenly attacked, every adult killed and Izith - for he was untrained - taken prisoner.

It seemed at first that everything he had been raised to believe was true; that other races sought to destroy or enslave his people. He lamented inwardly his parents' choice to ignore the counsel of others and join their sensei's foolhardy quest. For days Izith was tortured until he passed out and woken to repeat. He had not known so much blood could fall from his face, yet throughout he kept up his litany, "Liberty for the Githzerai! Death to the slaver foe!"

At last, after what seemed an eternity, Goblinslayer's torture moved to a new subject. Izith was left in a dark cell, and believed himself quite alone... until he heard other voices. Then their alien forms resolved themselves in his vision.

Over the following few weeks he spoke, grudgingly at first, with his fellow prisoners. He learnt of the tortures they faced, as he had, and witnessed the treatment of magical beasts as their gaolers tried to enslave them. Soon, he reached an epiphany:

Long ago his people had thrown off the yoke of Mindflayer enslavement, had vowed never to be slaves again. Here he, one of the few of his people to make a life outside Limbo, had encountered members of other races as maltreated as his own; this time by humans.

It could mean only that some divine influence had brought him here, to teach him and his people that not all others were their enemies. Here were allies, other races to free from torturous enslavement, to fight with against the true enemies. Still it seemed hopeless that he would ever be able to act on this... until Thaco the Goblin freed them.

With his fellow prisoners he fought for freedom, as he had not been allowed to before. He was one of the lucky few to survive the escape which just goes to show; some divine power must have a purpose for him.

Name: Vorik Manesplitter
Race: Gnoll
Age: 27
Future Class: Ranger
Alignment: CN
Flaw: None
Description:
Vorik is a bit short for gnoll standards, standing at only 7 feet(), he weighs a light 250lb, and has dark reddish/brown hair, with darker spots covering his body. For a gnoll, he is relatively well-kept and groomed. From his right ear dangles a small golden loop w/ a bit of ribbon hanging from it, and there is a small bite out of his other ear. Well muscled, yet wiry Vorik is quite a sight to behold.
Background:
Vorik Mane-Splitter led quite the normal life for a gnoll. Grew up right, killed his first human when he was only 10, quite the pride of the tribe! He became the tribes best hunter at the ripe age of 16, and things were looking good for Vorik. He continued to excel, going on his first raid soon after turning 17, and he got the honor of making the first kill, he also came back with the most loot (hehe). Being the chief's son though, it was all expected of him. All the while though, going through all of this, Vorik did have a rival, Gronabal, the shaman's favorite protege. After being passed up for the first raid of the season so that Vorik could go a seed of bitter anger began to bloom deep inside Gron. Over the next couple of years this seed grew and grew as Vorik continued to meet, and exceed, expectations. Around the age of 24, Vorik became the apprenticed to both the War and Hunt chiefs, filling both roles well.

He became a paragon of his chosen paths, and while doing so Vorik caught the eye of Mona, one of the younger, prettier females of the tribe, who was currently apprenticed to the tribal spirit gnoll. Standing just over six and a half feet, Mona was easily the most beautiful (by gnoll standards of course which I decline to elaborate on) gnoll of the tribe, and the two soon became engaged. Marrying that spring, the two became quite the successful couple. Sadly though, Mona was barren, hence her magical abilities, so no gnoll children were to be had. But Vorik was willing to look past that for she made him quite happy, in a grumpy gnoll sort of way. Life was good, he moved up in the tribe, Mona became the tribal spiritual leader's assistant and all was well.

Well, Gron did not care for this, any of it. He had had his eyes set upon Mona as well. Her and Vorik marrying was the last straw, so he left the tribe and vowed revenge upon Vorik and all his kin. This grudge is the opening to the dark path that Vorik was then made to walk. Gron traveled and learned much of the way of magic, and soon came upon the city of Brassmoon where he continued to learn and let his anger towards Vorik boil. Soon, learning of the man, Dellyn Goblinslayer, and his hatred of all humanoids Gron figured out how to carry out his plans for revenge. Stealing back to the tribe in the dead of night Gron used his magic to kidnap Mona, from there he transported her into the hands of Dellyn, who was only too happy to have two gnolls walk right into his line of sight. For although Gron thought that bringing Mona would keep him safe from the man, he was sorely wrong.

Waking the next morning Vorik, found Mona missing and after alerting the tribe gathered a group of hunters to go after her. Tracking her, and Gron he soon came upon the human settlement. Fearing for his gnoll brothers Vorik told them to stay, and he went in alone. Hoping to get her back, without alerting the humans, Vorik broke into the prison under the cover of darkness, but to his ultimate demise. Dellyn had already begun to torture Mona, and gaining information about her husband, the man had planned on just this sequence of events. Vorik was ambushed, thrown into chains, and locked up in the cell across from Mona, all the better to hear her scream and whimper as Goblinslayer continued his diabolical work with all the diligence of a psychopath. Vorik, on the other hand was not touched physically, but he was brought out and made to watch as Dellyn worked with Mona. Each and every session with her, Vorik was made to watch, each and every god forsaken time.

This went on and off for 3 or 4 weeks (it is hard to tell in prison), until during one of these sessions Vorik was able to break free for a few glorious seconds, where upon he proceeded to kill Mona as quickly as he could. He knew there was no escape for them in the dungeons, so he set Mona free in the only way he could. Vorik paid dearly for his actions, repeatedly. The god's must have smiled upon Vorik's actions though, for a few days after his rescue of Mona, Vorik's cell door opens and a small scroungy goblin poked his head in and told him he was free. Vorik made good on the goblin's word and used his old hunting skills to escape out into the wilderness, but not before he swore to gain revenge on all humans, the scum who took his beloved Mona away from him.............

Name: (none)
Race: Lizardfolk, Poison Dusk
Class: Dragon Shaman (Red)
Alignment: CN
Flaw: Inattentive
Description: His scaly hide seems more or less intact, and shifts color depending on his surroundings. Occasionally when he stretches one way or the other, some scars can be seen in the skin underneath. He has a tendency to whip his head around quickly looking at one thing or another. And sometimes his just stares off into space. He tends to move on all fours and jump from place to place. He's somewhat naive and innocent, despite everything he's lived through. And, you know, he's a little crazy.

Background: This young little lizardfolk was captured as a hatchling and raised in the dungeons of Brassmoon. He was one of the "weapon" experiments of the elites, meant to be released on their enemies. His torturers were the only parents he knew. When his mind was all but gone he experienced a vision - some strange creature, kind of a lizard but far bigger, with 5 heads all different colors. She promised him things he couldn't understand: freedom, dignity, power, a life outside these walls. His last shreds of sanity doubted what he saw was even real, but it kept those shreds alive. It kept him alive.

He expereinced similar visions again and again. They were a blissful escape from the pain of the dungeons. Gradually they were becoming more real to him than the dungeon walls. The guards, recognising he was becoming more catatonic than the ball of rage they wanted, shifted their approach. Less constant torture brought him back to reality long enough for their efforts to be a little more effective. It's likely they would have diven him totally mad given more time.

Fortunately the guards didn't have the chance to finish what they were doing. Some strange one-eared goblin set him "free." All sorts of creatures, some he'd caught glimpses of before, were heading to some place called "out." A little afraid and a lot disoriented, he dumbly followed. Then he saw and felt things he had only seen in his visions: sky, sun, wind, and it was all real. Any lingering doubt evaporated in that moment. The promises were true. Part of his mind just sat back and watched himself in what followed. Some things the guards taught him, some things that came naturally. Hide, fight, run. It was ... amazing.

Now thet he's out, everything is wondrous to him. Basically he's in sensory overload, and he has a hard time distinguishing the relevant information, amouting to the Inattentive flaw. Not to mention his visions from time to time, and still fragile mental state.

The visions - some may have been divinely inspired, some may be very vague memories from his first few months before he was captured, some are no doubt good old deusions from a fractured mind. He knows they're not "real" like the normal world but he believes they're messages, weather or not they actually are..

IME: Bright Red.

I'm not sure what their lifespans are supposed to be like, but I assumed a fairly short lifespan similar to Goblins in the comic.
