Nair started to walk away from the cave as he talked to Chayim. "It's not for the mayor's collection. The item will actually benefit the town. And yes. Alastar resides in the tower at the center of Port Gast."

As they got underway, Chayim glanced sidelong at Nair, scratching at the slight shadow of stubble he had grown over the last few days. "If it's for the benefit of the town, why in the Mother's Shadow are you being so cagey about it? What does it do, protect us from something we aren't supposed to know is a threat? Turn unhappy citizens into obedient little drones? Raise an army of demons to clean the sewers?" Chayim grinned at the last one, to show he wasn't really serious. "So, what type of magic does Alastar collect?"

Centripus, finishingup in the cave and realizing he's being left behind, bounds along behind the others to catch up and listen to what he can of Nair's conversation. His thoughts already turn to the house that will soon be theirs- and how he can possibly persuade the others to let him open a smithy there.

As all of you walked down from the mountain, Nair continued to argue with Chayim in halfling. "Alastar collects everything. That's why we have to make such an effort to get things before he does. If he doesn't have it then he wants it."
At your current pace, you could probably make the road shortly after nightfall, and it will take another three days to reach Port Gast. |

"Always disliked mages, but this Alastar is monstrous. To assault someone with goblins. Does he have no style, no wit, no drama, no competence, or is it a combination of the three? Hypatia thought of the thieves in the circus, knowing their ways to steal and gather information. This Alastar knew nothing of the criminal world. "Probably some spoiled wizarding student, like I was supposed to be. So much knowledge with no intellect"

"Well, if it was Alastar, he must have got whatever it was from the merchant, and even if we can get the goblin to finger him it wouldn't do us any good. So unless the goblin hands us some other lead, I guess we'll just head back to town and see you on your way." Sighing slightly at the apparent futility of following this up, Chayim turned his attention to the scenery, and the road ahead. "When we get back to town, after I've bought everyone a drink obviously, I'm going to get myself a hat. A really big hat with a feather."

Anders is generally quiet, listening in to conversation when he can, though he seems to lack the languages needed to follow much. He stands in the middle of the pack, keeping watch over the captive and the rescued. If anything happens, they will need to be protected. The goblin is a witness and possibly holds more clues, if we can just get them out of him...

Alko walks alongside the group, as far as she can get from the chattering halflings. Her ears perk up, though, when Furball mentions a free round of drinks upon the return to Port Gast, and suddenly the long walk back doesn't seem so dreary after all.

The long walk back to Port Gast wasn't THAT dreary anyway. The first day back on the road was slow going as fits of rain tumbled down on your scarcely protected backs and caused your boots to sink and slide on the now muddy road. When you laid down to rest that night, it seemed as if the entire journey back to Gast would be, despite the promise of free ale, a miserable one. This was not the case, however.
Miraculously, the next morning, the mud had all but disappeared thanks to a vibrant morning sun. Other than the occasional low flying large bird (which Severious should probably watch out for) and the puffy white clouds, the skies stayed clear for the rest of their journey. It seemed the perfect return journey from the noble quest of saving an arrogant halfling money hoarder from a pack of stinky and unorganized goblins and a caged wolf. Even the city looked pleased to see you. The second guard tower was nearly completed, allowing both of the northern gate's spires to be manned by men of Port Gast's militia. They waved down and shouted back into the city as they spotted the return of both your adventuring party and the town's treasurer. As you enter the gate, you can see citizens watching your reentrance to the city excitedly and whispering among themselves as to what you might have had to go through to complete your deed. |
