Chapter One: Landfall, at last
All of this was of course on top of the fact that they could not even see ten feet away. Krognak could see two pirates, scared witless and right next to him. They would not be able to see, or really move either but they did not seem so bothered by this. They seemed bothered by being in Krognak's reach. The rough seamen quickly cured this fear though, as they gracefully vanished back in to the fog, now gone from sight completely. That was it. The world was empty. Kragnok and Alice both stood alone, nothing in the world to hear or see, but themselves, the wooden floor, and the damned ever rolling fog. It was then Krognak's nose, and eyes reminded him he was not alone. Near his feet was a tiny red creature. It was shaped like a man but it had horns, wings and a tail suited more to a dessert bug. This little monster had flown at the barbarian not long ago, and sought foolishly to sting him. Maybe Krognak was not alone after all, maybe he was in reach of the tiny little monster. (It is a Knowledge Planes DC 15 to know he is an outsider, evil and lawful. DC 20 for the full entry on Imp) Above Remy could see much more, she had eyes on the world around her. The ruined bodies of the dozens of men that had been slain lay around her, mostly dead at the hands of the blade, bolt or in the case of the five piles of ash near the burnt wreckage of a mast... Remy's flame strike. She could here as behind her those on the Fifth Wind were checking the ship for damage, or stow aways. She knew a few crew men were inching forward heavy cross bows in hand. They would not cross that strange magical bridge of darkness over on to the Astral Claw, but they would cover her from the edge of it. Chika, Archabald, and Marsha had regained order and were just now starting to wonder what was going on over on the other ship. Still, no time to explain that. Sarfang was over board, behind the ship. There he had caught a pirate seeking escape. He found only the fangs of the mighty, frenzied dire wolf. Shalla had moved to the back of the ship and stood ready with her magic on her lips. Though really she just wanted to be able to see what was going on, and pull Sarfang out of the water and hold him helpless once he finished with the pirate, both so that he would not be stuck in to the water to drown, and so that if the wolf could get back on the boat he would not do so only to eat a crewman. Mist rolled out of each of the six hatches that lead to the bowels of the Astral Claw. No sound could move through that mess, leaving Remy nothing to see but a blanket of white, and nothing to hear but a hollow, muffled thud from below. Down there were a few men along with Krognak and Alice... or was it Avex? Likely three or more pirates, their captain, the damnable witch, and both *** and the slightly mad elf that had formed Krognak's clan were some where in that mess.... and also a very, very angry badger for some reason. OOC - It is Krognak, then Alice's turn. After that it is the witch, then Remy. The bard song, and marshal inspire abilities are over now, so no bonuses for you. You have -4 on all d20 rolls from the witch's curse and -2 (on top of that) to hit and damage from the fog, and things that are within five feet still have 20% miss chance... everyone is blurred in the fog. At current no one knows where anyone is down there, other than the imp next to krognak. Scent will only tell you that they are in that area still.... not where. Listen does not help. Also, read Snake's Swiftness...It grants a single attack, not standard action. Also it does not work on Krognak 90% of the time, as if you have taken an 'extra attack' like from haste the spell has no effect on you this turn. Oh well, the Captain/Shalla do not have the best trick ever, just a good one. Last edited by Nickolie; 08-22-2010 at 05:11 PM. |

"GRRRAAAG. FLAH. GAAARAAAAG! RAR-AARGH!"
Krognak turned his attention on to the only thing he could perceive - and woe to that creature. The impish thing became Krognak's only foe and he tore into it mercilessly. A missed attack meant little to the barbarian. He was merely cutting down the ways the thing could escape. He was going to hit it eventually... "AAAARGH. FLAAAARGH." Krognak tore the imp to shreds with ease.
Alice drew in a deep breath. This was odd as normally speaking she did not breath - at all. Then is a sudden rush of air left her leather air sack it became clear as to why she had taken that breath. Alice let out a power gust of wind, that quickly and easily forced the thickened fog out of the ships hull and in to the air above deck. Remy and the Fifth Wind's crew saw massive pillars of fog erupt from the ship and dissipate above them. Meanwhile below deck everything had become clear, oh and a badger was upside down in the corner. Shocked as she was the dirty, celestial touched, sea witch backed up in to the far corner and started work on some devilish spell. She called out in words no one understood, and seemed to try and part the shadows before her. A rip formed in front of her, a tiny gate of sorts. On the far side was a distorted image of the world, in black and white. She smirked widely and stepped through with out an other word. (Remy's turn) |

Remy runs to the ladder, she looks down and sees what is below.
The pair of pirates struck out at Alice, but were not able to hit her. The swords were to slow moving for her, she dodged them with ease. Both of the men look past her though, they had little fear of the metal girl, they had a true dread of the mad warrior behind her however. As one they stepped back from her. Farther back another pirate moved to kill the badger, but found his sword was not up for the task. He stabbed the beast but it did not die, it only got more angry. The creature, this furry ball of rage, stood, took another sword wound and then took tooth, fang and fury to the pirate. It took only a few seconds for the animal to rip the man to shreds. *** roared and charged forward at one of the pirate and stabbed him with his spear. The wound was not enough to kill the man, but it was enough to stab the weapon all the way through the pirate's shoulder and pin him in place. So it was that he could not move when the blood hungry made elf leaped forward. He was quick, and deadly. He put his knife to the pirates throat and slit it, but did not stop there, he cut in to the man again and again until nothing was left but red chucks of meat and blood where once stood a man. One man left standing between our 'heroes' and the captain of the Astral Claw. He was not the type of man to leave his fate in the hands of others how ever. He smiled darkly and stepped forward. A step became a jog became a full out charge. He ran at Krognak, and paid no mind to Alice at all. He tossed his left hand off to the side, drawing the mad man's eyes away from his blade (Krog sense motive DC 21 or be flat footed. Alice get's an Aoo) Then Blackheart came up face to face with the mad rager. He showed only a hint of fear as he struck. The blade passed by Krognak's meagre defensive with grace and ease. Not even the stony hardness of his enchanted body stopped that blade it tore in to the man's throat and ripped back out. (Dealing 21 damage, you DR 10 of it, so take 11 in total. You must make a DC 11 Will save or be shaken, and a DC 11 fort save or be Staggered) Blackheart yanked the blade back out and sneered, as he did his face twisted and changed. Something strange happened, his being turned from that of a man in to the twist nightmares of those who looked upon him. Waves of fear pulsed out from him on to all who dared look upon the man.(Everyone make a DC 16 will save, if you fail you are Frightened, if you pass you are shaken.) As his foes shuddered and cried Huron Blackheart hopped back. His grace was great, and his skill allowed him to tumble back away from Krognak with out leaving himself open to attack. OOC: Krognak's turn. Map updated in just a second. |

"BAAAAARGH!" said he as the man tried to fool the barbarian. Of course, that wasn't exactly the hardest thing to do. He easily deceived Krognak and was able to take advantage of his surprise.
Indeed, it seemed like everyone was having a field day as the captain leapt toward Krognak and made a pretty gruesome hole in him. Of course, not nearly as gruesome as his face as it morphed into something ungodly. However, Krognak had since claimed a helmet that kept his emotions in check. Rather than have the wits scared completely out of him, he found his nerves to be shaken just slightly. "AAAARGH-RAAAAGH-AAAARGH!" he said, a terrible mix of gurgling in his speech as blood flowed freely from the neat extra hole in his throat (which really didn't seem to bother him all that much). And then he was upon that foolish pirate who would try to fool him. Yes, yes. He was able to score a cheap-shot on Krognak. But that alone wasn't going to save him from the sword coming incredibly quickly toward his soft and supple neck. (( Krognak moves to C6 by running around all his party members because he's just that damn fast. He attacks the pirate but I forgot to add in the -2 for being shaken. If he downs that pirate, he gets to cleave into the captain. )) |

Balckheart was staggered by the blow, but by no means broken by it. Krognak had hit him rather hard, but the blade of his weapon had hit the armour at the man's shoulder, so the blow was made in to a wounding shot, not a killing blow.
Still the last of the crewmen did not fair so well before the barbarian's blade. He was killed, his arm ripped off by the force of the attack, and his ribs shattered by the shoulder he took as the might rager passed by. This left the captain in the room with an eerie gate, and the enemy he had thought to rob. He was in trouble, and alone. (And it is Alice's turn) |

The warforged turned her head to look at the woman through the gate. Although she wasn't capable of much expression, her eyes seemed to glow brighter in anger. It could have just been a trick of the light, however. I mean, it's pretty oddly lit in there...

The witch let out a scream as the bolt of energy impacted on her face. She was burned, scared and very nearly beaten now. She looked back at the crew of the ship.... dead, all but the captain. She never really liked him anyway.
She did like Gavic though, she was close to her imp. She hated them for what they had done to the imp. She hated them for what they had done to her, and cost her. She just plain hated them. She would make them pay, pay with their damnedable lives. Her curse had not stopped them, well that was fine she had other tricks. Other evils to call down on them. She sneered and gathered her wits. She was 90ft in to the gate and it was starting to look unstable. She held her hands forward and muttered some words, then the mutter grew to a yell, not that anyone spoke more than two words of Abyssal and as such understand her. When she was done her chant, she ran, nothing happened, but she ran anyway. Now 120ft from the gate. (Liz's turn.) |
