Jess was born and raised in Memphis, Tenesee. Her father was an officer in LoneStar, her mother a secretary at the local corp office. Her childhood wasn't special or unusual in any way, and when she graduated from high school at the age of 18, she immediately enlisted in the CAS army. Once in military service, her skill and aptitude quickly drew the attention of her superiors, who offered her training in special forces work. Interested in the expanded opportunities (and the increased pay), she accepted, and after another year of training (and some extensive cyber modifications), was stationed in the CAS embassy in Denver.

She wasn't in Denver for more than 3 months before her SuRGE hit. For some people, the process was relatively easy... not so for Jess. In particular, the process of growing a second heart, as well as her body adapting to the changes around her existing cyberware, was extremely traumatic for her. Upon recovery, she found herself in the local CAS military hospital, with a guard outside the door - apparently, changelings weren't so common as of yet for her superiors to let this chance slip through their fingers, and they wanted to poke and prod her and see what had caused the change. Uninterested in becoming a test subject for the remainder of her term of enlistment, she put her training to use, stealing fresh clothing, and slipping out of the hospital undetected. Knowing that her former friends and squad-mates would be after her for going AWOL, she took advantage of her growing familiarity with the local shadow community, trading information for some fresh equipment and a quick trip across the border into the Pueblo Corporate Council, and on her way to Vegas. Since arriving in Vegas 9 months ago, she has worked to establish herself in the shadows - making connections with local players, and the Mafia, and keeping an eye out for CAS agents who might be on her tail.
