Class Features
All of the following are class features for the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: “Blades” are proficient with simple and martial weapons and light armor. Note that armor check penalties apply for heavier than leather armors apply to these skills Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Pick Pocket, and Tumble.
Bladestaff: The Bladestaff is an ancient elven weapon which is comprised of a long shaft with a razor sharp blade attached to each end. No two Bladestaffs are exactly alike. Each Blade of Sehanine Moonbow must create their own Bladestaff. Their weapon is designed and crafted with their own needs and preferences in mind. The height, weight, girth and adornments are the vision of the weilder of the staff. The Bladestaff is constructed entirely of metal, preferably mithril or adamantium; though it is possible to construct the Bladestaff from steel or iron in most cases the creator will wait until a better metal is available. Precious stones may be added to the Bladestaff durring creation as well. If these stones contain any enchantments the weilder of the Bladestaff gains their benefits. Enchanted stones, such as Augmentation Cyrstals, may only be installed durring creation, once the Bladestaff is complete it can not be altered, though it can be repaired if damaged. The Bladestaff is considered a double weapon and can be used as if fighting with two weapons, but if you do, you incur all the normal penalties associated with fighting with two weapons, just as if you were using a one-handed weapon and a light weapon (see Two-Weapon Fighting, PHB pg 160). However, unlike many double weapons, you can use both ends of the Bladestaff in a single combat round, if using this tecnique you incur the above mentioned two-weapon fighting penalties. Additionally the Bladestaff can be used as either a one-handed weapon or two-handed weapon. If used as a one-handed weapon only one end of the Bladestaff may be used in a combat round, yet you have the option to use it as a reach weapon; though you may only make a single attack from a distance of 5ft. Should you wield the Bladestaff with one hand without using reach you may make a full attack. In the event that the Bladestaff is used as a two-handed weapon, again you may only use one end of the weapon, you may only make one attack, and may not use it as a reach weapon; yet you calculate damage as a two handed weapon.
Exotic Weapon Cost Dmg (M) Critical Range Incriment Weight Type Bladestaff Varies (see below) 2d4/1d6 x3 - Varies (see below) Slashing
The varied cost and weight of a Bladestaff are primarily based off the metal used to create it. Adamantine adds an aditional base value of 3,000 gp and adds 1/8th weight, Mithril add an additional base value of 4,000 gp and subtracts 1/4 weight. The base weight for a steel Bladestaff is 12lbs, but is varied by 2-3 lbs per Bladestaff. The base cost for a steel Bladestaff is 650 gp (this includes the masterwork double weapon properties).
Market Value: There is no standard market price for a Bladestaff. They are never produced for comercial purposes and no Blade of Sehanine Moonbow would ever sell or willfully part with their Bladestaff. Should a Bladestaff be put up for sale a merchant would likely have a difficult time placing a value upon it. Any merchant who was presented with the option of buying a Bladestaff may very well pass up the oportunity due to the lack of market, and consequently if any Blade of Sehanine Moonbow discovered that they were trading these weapons there would be dire consequences. If a merchant were presented with a Bladestaff, and had no knowledge of the Blades of Sehanine Moonbow, they would still have a difficult time placing a value upon such a rare and exotic weapon.
Spells: A Blade of Sehanine Moonbow casts arcane spells (the same type of spells available to sorcerers, wizards and bards), which are drawn from the sorcerer/wizard spell list (PHB pg 192). A Blade of Sehanine Moonbow must prepare spells ahead of time.
To learn, prepare or cast a spell, the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level (Int 10 for 0-level spells, Int 11 for 1st-level spells, and so forth). The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a Blade of Sehanine Moonbow's spell is 10 + the spell level + the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow's Intelligence modifier.
Like other spellcasters, the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow can only cast a certain number of spells per day. Her daily spell allotment is based off of her base arcane caster class. Any bonus spells she would normally recieve from a high Intelligence score are still applicable.
Unlike spontanious casters the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow may know any number of spells (see Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook PHB pg 179). She must choose and prepare her spells ahead of time by getting a good night's sleep and spend 1 hour studying her spellbook. While studying, the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow decides which spells to prepare.
Spellbooks: Like the wizard, the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow must study her spellbook each day to prepare her spells (see Preparing Wizard Spells, PHB pg 177). She cannot memorize any spell not recorded in her spellbook.
To become a Blade of Sehanine Moonbow she must have a spellbook in her possession and knowledge of how to use it. Most Blades of Sehanine Moonbow have at least one level of the wizard class in their background, yet this in not an absolute requirement. Should a spontanious caster such as a bard or sorcerer choose the path of a Blade of Sehanine Moonbow they begin to record all future spells within a spellbook, however they do not gain any bonus spells at first level as the wizard dose. In the event that a spontanious caster takes on the challenge of becoming a Blade of Sehanine Moonbow she dose not loose her spontanious casting abilites, yet dose not gain any further spontanious casting progression. All previously learned spontanious spells are retained, yet from the moment she becomes a Blade of Sehanine Moonbow all new spells must be recorded in her spellbook and prepared ahead of time from studying her spellbook. Additionally only spells recorded in her spellbook may be channeled or stored within her bladestaff. It is possible to record previously learned spontanious spells in her spellbook. If there is a source such as another spellbook or scroll to transcribe the spell from this is the easiest way to gain the ability to both spontaniously cast as well as channel and store spells in her Bladestaff. To scribe a spell that the caster learned spontaniously without aid of a spellbook or scroll to copy it from, the cost in time and materials to transcribe the spell are doubled. Additionally transcribing a spontianious spell without a source to copy from requires a successful Spellcraft check equal to 10 + the level of the spell, a failed Spellcraft check results in expenditure of time, materials as well as the use of pages within her spellbook and the transcription process must be tried again with the same chance of failure. Should a spontanious caster take the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow prestige, seperate spontanious and memorized spell lists should be maintained; much like a multiclass sorcerer/wizard. A spontanious caster who chooses this path continues to gain spells known at the same rate as her base arcane casting class, yet her memorized spells per day do not increase at the same rate as her base arcane class; rather she gains the same spells per day as spells known. This progression change takes effect once she has met the requirements to become a Blade of Sehanine Moonbow and takes her first level of this prestige. A Blade of Sehanine Moonbow with levels in a Divine caster class may not use spells from her divine spell list in conjunction with her Bladestaff, yet dose not loose any benefits she would normally recieve from the previous Divine caster levels.
The Blades of Sehanine Moonbow are dedicated journal keepers, detailing their journies, studies and experiences graphically. Many who walk this path choose to keep their journal record within their spellbook(s). This can make it difficult for anyone other than the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow who wrote the entries to discern the content. Additionally all writings within the spellbook/journal are scribed in Draconic or Elvish. A read magic spell can be used to identify the spells within the book, yet sheds no light upon the journal entiries.
Channel Spell Bladestaff: At first level the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow gains the ability to channel a single prepared spell through her Bladestaff. Using this ability requires a move action and the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow uses her spell or spell slot just as if she had cast the spell normally. The channeled spell affects only the target struck with a successful attack roll with her Bladestaff (saving throws and spell resistance still apply). Even if the spell normally effects an area or is a ray, it affects only the target. The channeled spell is only stored for two combat turns. If the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow fails to connect with a target two combat turns after it is stored in the Bladestaff the spell fizzles. The Blade of Sehanine Moonbow may only channel spells through her own Bladestaff. Any weapon other than her own Bladestaff, including another Bladestaff, can not be used in this mannor.
Weapon Focus Bladestaff: Through intense training with her Bladestaff the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow gains special insight into the use of her Bladestaff. At second level the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow gains the Weapon Focus feat (PHB pg 102). This feat is applicable to all Bladestaffs, regardless of ownership, yet dose not give her the ability to channel or store spells with any weapon other than her own Bladestaff.
Bonus Feat: At third level the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow gains a bonus feat in addition to any feats gained through normal level progression. A Blade of Sehanine Moonbow must still meet the prerequisites for a bonus feat, including ability score and base attack bonus minimums.
Weapon Specialization Bladestaff: At fourth level the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow has reached a new level of skill with her Bladestaff. She gains the Weapon Specialization feat (PHB pg 102) for the Bladestaff. This feat is applicable to all Bladestaffs, regardless of ownership, yet dose not give her the ability to channel or store spells with any weapon other than her own Bladestaff.
Spell Penetration: At sixth level the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow has honed her arcane abilities. Her spells become especially potent, breaking through spell resistance more readily than normal. She gains the Spell Penetration feat (PHB pg 100). This applies to all spells, weather cast normally or channeled through her Bladestaff.
Store Spell Bladestaff: At seventh level the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow gains the ability to store a single spell in her Bladestaff. This spell will remain stored within the Bladestaff until a sucessful attack is made on a target. The spell is automatically channeled upon the first sucessful attack roll after it is stored. The Blade of Sehanine Moonbow can not prevent the spell from discharging if a sucessful attack roll is made and will discharge on the first target it strikes including inanimate objects. The stored spell can be dispelled by the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow as a free action, in this case the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow dose not recover the stored spell. A new spell may be stored in the Bladestaff only if there is not currently a stored spell. If the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow attempts to store a second spell in her Bladestaff it fizzles and consumes that spell or spell slot as if it were cast normally. The channeling effect of the spell dose not change with the ability to store spells.
To store a spell the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow must have a spell memorized and spend 1 minute per spell level of meditation to store the spell in her Bladestaff. Once the spell is stored within the Bladestaff it consumes that spell or spell slot as if it were cast normally. Scrolls, wands, staffs and other sources that store spells may not be used to transfer spells to the Bladestaff, even if the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow would normally be able to cast the spell. The Blade of Sehanine Moonbow may only store spells in her own Bladestaff. Attempting to store a spell in any other weapon, including another Bladestaff, will result in the spell fizzling and use the spell or spell slot.
Greater Weapon Focus Bladestaff: At seventh level the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow further increases her proficiency with the Bladestaff. She gains the Greater Weapon Focus feat (PHB pg 95) for the Bladestaff. This feat is applicable to all Bladestaffs, regardless of ownership, yet dose not give her the ability to channel or store spells with any weapon other than her own Bladestaff.
Bonus Language: From years of adventuring and travel the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow gains a bonus language at eighth level. She may choose any language she has had exposure to at some point in her life. This language may be learned from practice or study.
Bonus Feat: At ninth level the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow gains a bonus feat in addition to any feats gained through normal level progression. A Blade of Sehanine Moonbow must still meet the prerequisites for a bonus feat, including ability score and base attack bonus minimums.
Greater Weapon Specialization Bladestaff: At tenth level the Blade of Sehanine Moonbow has reached the peak of her prowess with the Bladestaff. She gains the Greater Weapon Specialization feat (PHB pg 95) for the Bladestaff. This feat is applicable to all Bladestaffs, regardless of ownership, yet dose not give her the ability to channel or store spells with any weapon other than her own Bladestaff.
