And a giant skeletal dragon is itself pretty damn dramatic =P. I'll roll the save with my next post. Fortunately I've got a pretty good will saving throw; I ain't afraid of no ghosts!

Yes, it would. As I understand things, any action it takes - even walking - is as a result of a direct order from Felicity. If it considers Chael hostile, it's because Felicity does. And she, I understand, is no mindless undead.

It isn't mentally linked to her. Mindless undead without masters judge all living creatures as enemies, so why should any mindless undead with masters who have not been ordered to protect that living target consider them allies by default?

As I understand it, there are two factors here.

First, I see no reason why an undead dragon would not consider any living creature to be hostile if it is in fact not mentally linked to its master (as is the case), because all non-intelligent undead regard all living creatures as hostile.

Second, Felicity does not need to command the dragon to use Frightful Presence because it's a passive aura.

Any simple undead will by default see all living creatures as enemies (even if it can't attack them without orders) until directed otherwise, so any living creature that gets within range of the Frightful Presence should be affected unless Felicity tells the dragon to regard said creature as a friend, or at least not as an enemy.

At least this is how I see it; given the amount of debate going on, we should probably just take a DM ruling on the issue.

I don't get that reasoning. (Or well, I partially get it, but don't understand it in it's fullness):

From what I understand from your words it has not been ordered to consider Chael a friend. It's frightening presence, which only affects foes is in affect against Chael, yet it is just sitting there, and not charging towards him with the inbreed hatred towards all living things that (unguided) Undead have? Seems to me that somewhere along the road someone either gave the order not to kill the mage, or something else is preventing it from assaulting him.

I think a DM ruling is in order. This particular undead was directed to guard her cave and otherwise only attack creatures on her order. Frightful presence is not an attack, but because the dragon was not directed explicitly to regard Chael as a friendly target and protect him, the frightful presence still applies because he is by default (unless specified otherwise) considered an enemy by mindless undead.

Easy enough, although for some reason the site won't let me see page 2 of the main thread at the moment. So this ruling is based somewhat on not seeing the text of what is going on.

I think there was a comment about this being based on something out of the Draconomican.

DM ruling: The dragon is an animate skeleton. There is no dragon fear. I don't even own the dragonomican, and it is certainly not a source I indicated was usable.

Secondary DM ruling, if the order given was to guard the cave then the dragon would attack anyone entering unless Felicity orders it not to.

What do you know, I write that and then I can see it.
The most recent order given at that stage was "come", so it would not be using any special powers, even if it had them. I'm not sure that dragonfear (if it was available) is actually something you can turn off.

Ok, fair enough. I'll change her dragon so it no longer possesses frightful presence and gains skeleton bonus feats and stat modifiers.

Cha goes from 14 to 1, it loses dragon keen senses, blindsense, -1 natural armor, -1 CR, and spell resistance, and it gains +2 dex and improved initiative.

Guys, I have bad news. I'm sorry, but my schedule has gone completely nuts and I probably won't be able to continue keeping up posting. My apologies all around. Hopefully it's early enough in the game that you all may be able to find a replacement for me without that much of a break in the story line. Aerondor, feel free to NPC Alexandros as you wish, whatever you need to do to keep the game running smoothly.

I'm really sorry guys. I wish you all the best of luck, and happy gaming.

I will be a little scarce over the next week or so...had a little fire at my house last week and my attention will be focused on some cleanup.

np, as you can see from my sig, I'm pretty tied up with my firm recoverying from the massive earthquake in Christchurch at the moment, my own posting is going to be close on zero over the next week, fingers crossed it will pick up a bit after that.

Sorry for the lack of posting.

In general since the earthquake, my level of energy and site enthusiasm has dropped significantly. I've made the hard decision to stop a fair chunk of my activity on this site, and unfortunately that means this game as well.

I may come back in a month or so (and certainly hope to), but for the moment I think it is safer to consider this game closed.

Please accept my apologies, I know a lot of effort got put into creating the characters. Thanks for that, and sorry I couldn't hold my end up.
