Well, the bad news was how I rather vanished there for a while...the good news - er, I hope - is that I've returned early as well. Well, more or less returned. Returned-ish. I'm working on it, alright? : P I'll work on a post or three for the next few days...that is, a large one for KM, another for Aethera, and a third right here. I'm so restless from not writing that I believe I may drop a dragon on you folks. |

Bah! A dragon? That's nothing. In my day, we used to have to battle the living conceptual embodiment of the entire universe! And that was just for starters! But you try tellin' that to the kids today...

Blah...fiddling with ways to continue more coherently than I began. Clearly made a few rookie DM mistakes, in addition to my horrid infrequency. When I pick this back up, I'd like to remedy that...a lot. That said, I know Syth and KM are still here (though quite busy), and I know that Aethera's ill...anyone else about? I may resurrect the app thread, but only if I have a more solid idea of how to pull this little mess together. All thoughts are appreciated... ![]() |

I'll still around. As for getting this show back on the road, you need a clear destination in mind and a plan for getting the characters there.

I'm still around and ready to go, by the way.

Thanks, km. Also - agreed, Althea. I've been reassessing my facility for DMship...I hadn't realized how different the telling had to be, you know? It's more than just writing...incidentally, I have a renewed appreciation for km's awesome powers of DMability. Anyroad, I've raised the app thread, and I'll take some notes and perhaps get a real post up here soon. Or better yet, a real game. ![]() Sorry guys - I know you were expecting rather more. I'll see if I can't deliver, after all. ![]() |

Sigh. I did search through some of my favorite DM-y moments in other games, and I consulted a few more experienced gentlemen...and I had to admit, ultimately, that I'm not a good DM. I like to think that I'm a good writer, but there is some quality to DM-ability which I distinctly lack. ![]() So - sorry to have wasted your time in that respect. I do, however, have a new idea. I've posted a new thread which, plotwise, is a variation on the theme we've begun. The game, however, is a different one entirely. There is no DM, and we are all Players after a fashion. The game is writing - not an interactive roleplay, but a simple, linear adventure. Basically, I had an idea which could use our characters, and I'm interested in your thoughts...while normally not a fan of collaborative writing, I'm willing and interested to see where this goes. You can add whatever thoughts you've got, write up whatever excerpts you feel like, and we'll see if we can't craft it all into some kind of singular story. Questions? Concerns? Interests? Lack-of-interests? |

I cut my online RP teeth with collaborative writing. Back when www.moviesonline.ca had a forum, and when it was thriving, I played in a number of RP forums that were essentially diceless gaming. Zombies, superheroes, a couple others, but it was really the zombies and superheroes that broke the ice when most of the other forum denizens were solo writers (and great ones, too-- one is even published, now: http://astheworlddies.com/ using one of her online writings). I was the one to initiate the collaborative writing and we had some phenomenal results. It taught me a few good lessons.
__________________Collaborative Writing Rules: Direction - It is of paramount importance that everyone agree on the goals of the characters involved, if control is shared. For example, if everyone has the authority to write the actions of the catalyst or the antagonist(s), everyone needs to maintain a seamless character. Style - Now, everyone writes differently, and it's not cool to try and stifle that. But it can get jarring if scenes transition from film noir to high camp, for example. The goal is to try and keep things close in style, as appropriate to the scene, not to restrict your freedom of writing (although, I personally enjoy the challenge of trying to write in a way that I don't usually). Fair's Fair - What is written is and you can't retcon just because you're not happy with the way the story unrolls. It also means 'be flexible'. When you write your own stuff, you have complete selfish control, but when collaborating, you have to accept that some of your own ideas will not happen. |
