The Road to Cauldron
Sunshine, a soft breeze, and an easy road belied the danger that could erupt around them at any moment. Orc soldiers had found them late in the week last week and it was a near thing. Their capture had almost seemed certain but with teamwork and Presto's unpredictable hat, they had slipped free of the trap. Now, Dungeon Master had sent them down this road with more of his cryptic words, "Find the cauldron where the meal will be bitter yet it will satisfy your hunger for home." and in DM fashion he disappeared with Eric hot on his heels. |

The wind swept along the plains as Eric circles around looking for the Dungeon Master. Hank's hair is caught up in it and it sweeps his majestic mane of blond hair to the side.

Diana stands weight on one foot leaning against her, now comforting, staff a look of puzzlement on her face.

In a bitter and markedly annoying tone, the Cavalier bites a response to the Ranger's seeming positive comment. "'Hasn't led us astray?' Need I remind you of where we are? We're in la-la land! And I don't mean Los Angeles. But speaking of the meals, hey, Presto. Any chance of you whipping me up a Whopper with Cheese from that lame-o hat of yours? I'd pay handsomely..." He had reached into his chain mail shirt and withdrawn a stack of twenty dollar bills that he was fanning towards the green-robed redhead.

Stupid carnival... Albert probably wouldn't have even been there, only he was tutoring Bobby when the others all got together. Figures, an eight-year-old was the closest thing he had to a friend. Bobby bugged his big sister, and Hank always played the nice guy anyhow. Diana just rolled her eyes...thinking back on it, Eric was the only one who actually said what he thought - "Oh great, who invited Presto?" Yeah, that would never stick. Bobby actually thought it was a cool name. The kid acted almost like he looked up to Albert...alright, Presto. Well, if he did, it wouldn't last long. Still, it was nice to have someone appreciate all the card tricks and the dnd figurines...the Inhumanoids lunchbox. Even a little someone. Then it was Bobby who said, "Hey look, a Dungeons and Dragons ride!" It was the first time Presto had ever been on a ride where he, you know, knew the other people riding. Things were kinda looking up. ... Looking around at them now, Presto wonders whether things are so bad after all. He's got friends now - sort of. Well - people who talk to him. That's like friends, right? At least they don't beat him up. Okay, so it's not like they chose to be around him because they like him or anything...but he's kind of learning to like them. That's a start. Eric's request pulls Presto's attention out of the fog. "What? Oh - well, I can try..." Pulling the green hat from its unruly mop of hair, the magician Dice Roll:

Presto twiddles, fiddles, and piddles as his hat hangs limp but open in his off hand. At first, there seems to be no reaction unlike some of his more favorable incidents and completely unlike some of his not so favorable 'accidents'. Just as his mind turns to crestfallen thoughts of failure, there comes a slight sizzling sound that resolves into a mere spark about the size of a piece of Dubble Bubble bubblegum. It bounces from the hat and falls to the ground where it bounces several times until eventually finding its way onto the side of the road and into a thicket of nearby bushes. Lackluster results, for sure, but no one got hurt....

Quickly coming back to their senses, rising or simply brushing the litter from their clothing, no one can miss looking first at Presto and then at the tiny crater created by the blast. Lying haphazardly around the football sized hole are five birdlike carcasses with smoldering remnants of feathers and charred goose-prickled bare skin. Certainly, they're dead but not so damaged as to not be edible. Last edited by Securis; 02-08-2012 at 07:24 PM. |

Despite her reflexes, Shiela is caught completely off guard by the explosion, landing with a thump. Shaking her hair out of her face, she looks around. "Is everyone okay?"

Eric walked a few tentative steps to look in the thicket, he turns around and shrugs as Presto's Magic appeared to once again do nothing. Then the explosion happened. Eric flew forward with concussion blast, landing face first on the dirt road. The ranger sits there for a moment as he gathers his senses.
__________________Eric shakes his head as he lifts his face from the ground. He looks up and around at his friends, his face covered in dirt. He sloshes something around in his mouth for a moment and then spits out a wad of dirt and saliva. He raises his hands to either side and then does an easy pushup, lifting himself off the ground. From their he does a quick jump to a standing position. Being pushed forward from the blast, the front of the ranger is covered in dirt. He starts to brush himself off and wipe the grim from his face, "I have to say Hollywood is very irresponsible. I've seen explosions like that all the time in movies and the good guys typically get up and walk away as if nothing happened. My whole body hurts, my ears are wringing." he lifts his hands as he speaks "and I think I have some blisters on my hands from the heat." He shakes his head. "That was nothing like I remember seeing in the movies." |

Diana staggers backwards, but is far enough away that a quick prod behind with her ever-ready staff helps her keep her feet.
