"Olim, my friend, it is so good to see ye," Bildus began. As the priest smiled and motioned the adventurers in, Bildus wanted to share their tale, but he also wanted to give Shonis and especially Blitz a chance to contribute. The dwarf simply said, "Oh, you wouldn' b'lieve the day we've had. We managed to track down the cave the bandits had mentioned, but before we got out o' there, I nearly got m'self eaten. Har, don't you worry, we're all in one piece. Let's lay out the tale as it happened." He watched as Olim looked over the group a few times, noticing a look of concern begin to shade the man's expression. "Oh, Milton? Nah, he's fine. Headed off to do his own thing shortly after we got to that cavern. He 'ad a good head about 'im, I'm sure he's not in any trouble. Anyway, when we first got there, we managed t' somehow stir up a bunch of bats..." |

Bildus proceeded to tell the remainder of the tale, leaving out only the things his exhausted brain was too tired to recall. He told Olim about the bat who stole his sunrod, his foolhardy charge into the mandibles of an ankheg, their exploration of the lower cavern, the stubborn homunculus, and the journey back. The planning and actual unfolding of the final battle seemed to leave quite an impression on Humushire's priest, but he seemed incredibly relieved to find that everyone had survived and that the task had been completed.
Bildus' face, sleepy and wrinkled though it was, positively beamed when he told Olim of his meeting with Silverbeard and the holy symbol that Clangeddin and Pelor had bestowed upon him. The story concluded, Bildus said, "Ye know, Blitz here really saved the day. I may be a follower o' Pelor m'self, but he has shown me much of Bahamut's power. And Shonis has an incredible command of the true powers of nature. 'Twas a long day, but I've learned much more than I'd've possibly hoped. And, with your kind permission, Olim, I'd like to have another rest 'ere." He sat down his things and, once Olim nodded his consent, began to unpack what he needed for a good sleep. Sliding out of his newly acid-worn chainmail, he turned to his friends and said, "Ye'd better still be here when I get up. I don' know what this day will bring, but if we are to part ways...well a proper goodbye is in order, m' friends." |

Olim listens with obvious interest and more than a little awe to the adventuring cleric's tale, his eyes widening with concern each time the heroes mentioned how near to defeat they came, even though he knew they were all safe and sound before him. "What an adventure!" The village priest at last exclaims. "Only the intrepid old blacksmith, rest his soul, has ever related such a tale to me in all my life... and I have no cause to doubt a single word of it. Imagine that, a bat stealing off a sunrod to throw it down an ankheg hole! The bones of a dwarf cleric, lost in the caverns - how fortunate you escaped the same fate! And the spirits of the blacksmith and his wife, finally appeased by the righting of a heinous crime." The old priest shared in Bildus's enthusiasm when told of the apparition that blessed his holy symbol with magic, beaming though not without some apparent envy. "Ah, the life of a village holy man is drab and monotonous by comparison! I hope that my ritual components were of use to you, and I'm glad the potions I made helped you, though it is frightening to think how sorely they were needed."
__________________The face of the priest is positively awash with relief at the successful conclusion of the quest. "That is wonderful news! I will be called upon to go and reconsecrate the graves tomorrow, no doubt. There was a reward the mayor offered to Blitz and the others for the task... we don't have much, but I am sure he would insist on showing you our appreciation. You can put the money to good use. But first, you need your rest!" With that, he bustled around to lay out bedrolls and bring pillows, making the modest dwelling as comfortable as possible for the heroes. |

Bildus woke in the morning, glanced around to see the bulky shape of Blitz lying on one bedroll and the slender outline of Shonis on another, and figured that since he was the first one up, he would again go for a short walk. Just like the previous morning, he wandered briefly before returning to pack his things. "Olim, yer too good t' us," Bildus said as he got back. His friends still sound asleep--and well deserving of such a rest--he talked with the priest a bit more. "Ye know, we were glad to have the incense with us, but we were fortunate to never need it. Aside from the holy water I made about this time yesterday, the rest of 'em haven't been used. It would be wrong for me to keep them. I'm sure ye'll be needin' them to work on the graves...an' I'd be glad to help you with that task if you desire. Thank ye deeply, though, for lendin' them to me. And for yer hospitality as well. We'll be sure to go visit the mayor once these youngsters wake up. I'd very much like to meet the man."

Bildus got the suspicion that the past two days had taken more of a toll on Blitz and Shonis than he had imagined. He decided that what they needed more than anything was rest, so he knelt down and said a quick prayer for each of them, and then headed off alone to meet the mayor.
The cleric rapped gently on the door of the town hall, and shortly thereafter was met by a very large man with a reddish face. Something about the man's appearance immediately convinced Bildus that this was the mayor, so he bowed deeply, sweeping his beard up into his left arm so it wouldn't drag on the dirt-covered stoop. "Good sir, I am Bildus Sveltehammer, proud servant o' Pelor, and I bring you good news." Bildus straightened himself back to his full height, but still was looking up at the mayor when he continued. "I know ye haven't met me before, but you recently hired a friend of mine, Blitz, t' help with an undead issue. I'm sure you're a busy man, so I'll skip the details, but myself and a girl named Shonis ended up gettin' involved with the quest, too. Only a few hours ago we finished taking care of the situation, and your wonderful priest Olim said he would reconsecrate the graveyard today. I thought ye'd like to know that, as far as we can tell, things are back to normal." Bildus bowed once again. |
