Cool, so we're getting SOME people back. I like this. We'll pause for maybe a day or two more to see if anyone else comes along. If not, we'll continue on, but I'll have to do some modification of the storyline which should be... Interesting.

Anyway, Draco, I actually haven't been to MEPS yet, but I've done just about everything else I need to do. I'm shooting for ELT or ET. I'm also going to work for a med officer slot, since I already almost have my nursing degree anyway, and only need another year of classes.

Were you in the Navy? If so, what was your rating and would you have any words of wisdom to share?

No, I am in the Army. We call it an MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) and I'm an MP, what the Navy calls a Master-at-Arms. I have plenty of military related advice.

If you plan to make it a career, max out the usage of your Tuition Assistance (or whatever the Navy calls it) finish that damn degree and put in for your commission. There's no comparison to the life of an officer to the life of your average enlisted. It's like night and day.

Promotion in the Navy is all about skill and capability. You take a promotion test and only a certain top percentile get the go, so study hard and keep yourself competitive.

Take as many special schools as they will let you go to. Always be that guy to volunteer to learn to do something new, even if you're not sure what it is. The military (and especially the Navy, so expensive with it's big ships) is downsizing and only keeping the top of the pile. I know in my Company we got the order not from Battalion, but from Retention Command, that of the 38 enlisted soldiers eligible for promotion right now the Commander only has authorization to approve 21 of them. The military will always let new guys in, but once you're in you're not assured a chance to stay in a post-war military. When we're drawing down we take the time to cull the military population.
