Some Notes About Posting Frequency and Activity

In this game I am going to expect a fair amount of activity, 4-5 posts per week would be the minimum I am looking for from each player. I will post at least 4 times each week depending on when your posts come in and when the last time I posted was. If you do not post within 48 hours and you have not told me that you are going to be absent then I will post. The maximum time between my posts will be 72 hours, only if you have told me that you are not going to be available for that time frame ahead of time. In non-combat situations I will act as if you had stayed silent and did not act. In combat situations I will NPC you with or without your permission. This is not me trying to be mean, but I have seen what happens to games when the DM waits for every person to post and one just will not do it. It does not seem to end well, and interest begins to wane quickly from those who have been active.

If you do not post for a full week, and do not give me a heads up ahead of time, I will take over your character for 1 month (or until you get back). This is so if there is an emergency you will still be able to come back, or let me know that you are going to need some time off. If you do not return in a months time I will assume you have lost interest entirely and I will begin searching for a replacement for you.

If you abuse the system and post fewer than 3 times a week for a month then I will send you a warning to increase your activity. If the behavior persists then I will ask you to leave the game and find a replacement for you.

If you get in contact with me and know that you will be gone for more than 72 hours I would be happy to NPC you with whatever instructions you give me. If you know that you will be gone for less than 72 hours then just let me know and I will wait until you post before I make my own. If you are planning on being frequently absent in a given month more than 3 times then I would like to know that and I will NPC your character per any instructions you give me.

I do not want to be a bad guy, but I would like to stay on top of this and make sure that everyone who wants to be active, including myself, has the opportunity to do so. If you have any questions, concerns, or simply feel that I am being too strict and unfair please feel free to ask them either in a PM or in the OOC thread. This i the first time I will be DMing a PBP game, and I would like it to go smoothly.

Best,
~D.

Combat RulesStolen whole from DraconigenaArma

Combat Rules
  • When in combat post your HP and AC (including touch and flat footed) as well as any effects your character is under in the post's title (or just up at the top of the post if you use quick reply.) If I need your saving throws in secret I’ll look up your damn sheet, there’s only so much room on the title.
  • PbP DnD is far more of a narrativist experience than it is a gamerist one. I would like combat to flow with as much literary flare as everything else in the game. No one knows your character better than you do, and in combat that’s no difference. You can describe your characters attacks with more accuracy than I can. I will be posting the enemy’s HP and AC as well as any relevant effects or immunities. I’ll trust you all to be adults when it comes to player vs. character knowledge during combat. With this information when you make a combat post you know if you hit, how hard you hit and can create an action scene of your own accordingly.
  • I’m scrapping initiative, so that should save some of you a feat selection. Unless it’s a surprise round PCs go before bad guys, and PCs go in the order that they post. This follows the same principle that posting the monster’s stats does. When you post, you know that you can react to everything that’s been posted already, you know which monsters are alive and dead, how wounded they are etc. It will remove all the boring and weak posts that start or contain a high proportion of the word ‘if.’ Contingency posts are boring.
  • Put all your rolls in your post, there is no 'dice thread.' Use TT text, OOC fieldsets, or spoilerbuttons at your leisure. The code monkeys behind the scenes of DnDO have worked very hard to make the dice manager on the site the most prestigious and user friendly (IE you can edit a post with rolls in it!) on the internet.
  • You do not die at -10. You die at -(CL*Con Mod)-10. -10 is the minimum so a neg con score cannot reduce your death threshhold to -9. Solve for 0 as a 1.

Notes About Profession Checks and Starting Wealth

Starting wealth for all players is +5 regardless of your starting occupation or previous profession checks, you have some stuff, but you are pretty broke.

Profession and WealthCharacters will be allowed to use the profession skill to increase their wealth bonus, however it will be severely reduced from the standard set in the d20 Modern core rule book. It works effectively the same way, when you get a level roll for your new wealth bonus as normal. Then take whatever that new bonus is, and divide it by 3 to get your actual additional wealth bonus, round down, minimum is +1 (on a success). Most of your wealth will be coming from contracts that you accept and complete. Consider bounty hunting (or trouble shooting or yak rustling, etc.) to be your job.
