Netflix Reviews (Arghhh, Pirates)
Netflix is my primary source of entertainment; I don't get out much. It can be good, but it can also be very, very bad. So, what have YOU watched on Netflix that is a great sleeper perhaps, or something to avoid like the Black plague. I propose a 1- 5 Pirate rating system for this thread, restricted to Netflix Movies, shows, TV, etc. |

Life on Mars
__________________ ![]() This is a short (17 episode) TV series about a NYC Cop who is struck by a car in 2008 and wakes up in 1973. The episodes follow him as he works as a cop in '73 while trying to find out why and how he is there, and of course get home. While most of the episodes were very good, a few dragged on, and by about number 14 I just wanted to find out what happened. The end was a very good hook! I was a slightly stereotypical COP show, but the twists, acting and well done script made it worth my time. DiG |

2012: Zombie Apocalypse
__________________ ![]() Yes, ANOTHER zombie movie. I do hope this FAD ends soon. I very seldom watch any of them, but after I started a D20 Modern game, this one caught my eye. I was mall set to watch about 10 minutes and turn it off, but watched it all. As far as Post-Apolitical films go, it was better than most. To me it had the feel of an RPG game, and I actually noted a few game scenarios from it. Of course a few parts were campy, but it had enough to set it apart (and above) from the rest of the genre. I only gave it three pirates, simply because it was still a 'zombie movie', but nonetheless I did enjoy it quite a bit. DiG |

I'm Not Jesus Mommy
__________________ ![]() This independent film at first seemed interesting, even with the mediocre acting. It's premise is a genetic researcher who teams with a fertility doctor who herself is infertile. The first part seemed like it could be good, but that soon passed. Partway through this is a significant plot change, but no real reason or explanation for it. It left be quite confused to the point where instead of 'watching' the movie I kept trying to figure out WHY it was now where it was. Near the end (which I now regret getting to) there was one tiny brief hint as to what happened. But not like a "The Sixth Sense" ending where it all comes together. It was more like an afterthought that was never completed. The plot-line could have been really good, but it was not...at all. It was one of those that you watch, get somewhat hooked, then when it ends you are very, very sad that you wasted an hour and a half. DiG |

Good stuff. I'm a bit hesitant to post as views on what makes a good movie seems to differ greatly between different personalities.

If I may recommend a couple of movies on Netflix that I think should appeal to the demographic on this site, that you may want to take a look at and review:
Arn: The Knight Templar - A Swedish film set during the Crusades. It has some fantastic characters and story arcs. It is cut together from two full-length movies, so it is a bit long and suffers from pacing issues, but is otherwise excellent.Black Death - Set during (surprise!) the spread of the Plague, this has some sort of Church-sponsored adventuring party hunting down a necromancer. Historical fantasy with a touch of horror. Quite good but very dark throughout. Plus, Sean Bean! Sometimes the plot goes a bit too far down the path of grimdark grey-morality, but overall fairly decent.Edit: Added "Yarr!"-ratings. Last edited by Ereshal; 06-25-2012 at 01:20 AM. |

LOL, so true. And really unnecessary as well, as there was a perfectly good ending about 5 minutes before that.
