Laying on the ground, Xavroar struggled to survive against the on going effects.

The cautious wizard grits his teeth in frustration as the elven archer fails to vacate the area. Fire is what this icy tomb needs. Fire. Instead, Georg finds himself releasing a carefully aimed stream of lightning across the room.

The zombies ignored most of Valynna's mental magic, but with the demon dazed, the party had a moment to withdraw. But Kaestra would not withdraw.
__________________Instead, she fought along valiantly, slicing again into the dead zombie's flesh, and bringing around a 1 PP = +4 HP, not a surge.touch of healing for Xavroar. His eyes flutter open, and Kaestra hopes she has bought him enough time. Over the lizardman, and around Kaestra, Georg throws a bolt of lightning. It leaps through both zombies, but the Mezzodemon manages to dodge aside, despite his mental battle with his surroundings. The zombies seem almost torn apart, but for now they manage to continue their deathly battle...that is, until one of the hunters lodges an arrow right in the middle of it's forehead. It drops, and only the one zombie remains. The creeping ice starts to coat Kaestra's 5 cold damage, slowed (save ends)feet, whilst continuing to work its way over Xavroar's prone 4 cold damagebody, but the who has 3 HP left lone zombie still struggled to work its broken limbs. It's mere presence was still 5 cold damage to Kaestra and Xavroareffective, despite now being half as strong.Seeing its minions destroyed, and realising that the eladrin's magic had effectively barred its passage forward, the mezzodemon turned and retreated - momentarily - behind the hard passage corner. Kaestra's notion to hold the line against the Zombies and let her allies inflict the damage seemed to have paid off - but now it was definitely time to get back from the cold and the ice. Only one foe remained just then... well, until the demon decided to join in. Hopefully, she could eliminate that threat and she and Xavroar could get back away from the enemy and the creeping cold. She willed energy into her blade again and sliced the Zombie's head clean off. "Woo!" she cheered herself as she moved backwards towards the others - her icy feet and legs not wanting to fully cooperate.

Georg is relieved to regain a bit of breathing room outside of the chilled hall and hopes that the retreating demon doesn't have something to clever up its sleeve. The wizard does not know if this other creature is as vulnerable to fire as the icy zombies clearly were, but figures a burst of flames will be a good way to catch the creature around the corner. He does his best to raise the temperature of the frozen tomb.

Eyes fluttering open, Xavroar breathed a sigh of relief as he awoke to find himself lying where he remembers himself being. Somewhere deep in Xavroar's mind, he had thought he would awake to find himself in some sort of 'after life' or something of that sort. Dragging his aching body up from the ice below him, he took a second to recover and catch his breath.

Valynna's concern slowly turned to anger. I will not die, my sister's friends will not die, AND MY SISTER WILL NOT DIE!
The purple mist coming from her orb darkened imperceptibly as her thoughts took a dark turn, and she drew on some of the darker magic she employed. Her forced studies into controlling the dead and her chosen studies of confusing the mind had culminated in this spell, and she had used it several times on the most persistent of her pursuers. Not yet able to see the demon she focused on the magic, creating a seething knot of rage and self-destruction that could, and had, driven men to draw steel on their allies before turning their blade on themselves. As soon as the demon stepped out from it's cover she released the dark bundle of thought, watching as the demon's snarl froze in place, then redoubled. Gripping it's weapon so hard that it bled it's other hand grasped at it's throat, claws digging deep into it's flesh. Last edited by AximusLokar; 07-03-2012 at 01:40 AM. |

Kaestra struck at the zombie, causing it to explode like the others. The blast washed harmlessly by Xavroar, but hit the eladrin full on crit! 20 cold damagein the face, knocking her to the ground.
__________________The chilled room was them lit by another explosion as Georg's blast raised the temperature a few degrees. However, rather than being vulnerable to the fire, the demon seemed to resist 10 firealmost enjoy the warm change. Behind him, Caerwil and the other elves moved into position, bows drawn tight, and waited along with Valynna. However, they were unsure of what to do, as her magic took hold of the mezzodemon and held it fast. "Valynna! Do we shoot it, or do you have...other...plans?" Caerwil called, not wanting to I didn't want them to attack and nullify your power disrupt the mage's magic. For the moment, the enemies were beaten or held still, and even the expanding ice had stopped its progress, though it still threatened to cover 4 cold damageKaestra and Xavroar. When Kaestra hit the ground, Xavroar gave a small grunt. "Kaestra, you have saved me, so it is now my turn to do the same to you. Kaestra, I command you; Stand up!" Silverclaw demanded his companion, and so he hoped she would obey. With his 'encouraging words' spoken, he stepped back and waited for the Demon to enter his reach.

The wizard groans a sort of throaty growl as he realizes that his attack choice was misguided. Bringing his staff in contact with the floor, he sets off blinding flurry of magical daggers to see how much they are enjoyed.

Valynna began to sweat from the magical strain and the mental pressure of direct contact with the demon's mind. "Now! Shoot it now!"
As Kaestra fell to the floor Valynna cried out in anguish, and in that moment felt the demon began to push back against her own mind. When her gaze returned her eyes shone with anger, pure anger, and she pushed that through the magical link before cutting it off. Across the room the demon's smirk turned to a scowl as it's claws dug farther into it's neck, coming away with a pulsing chunk before it could regain control of it's limbs. |

Going from eliminating a zombie in spectacular fashion, to being overwhelmed by a sudden cold blast and down on the floor, and to being standing and ready to fight once again... all in the matter of a few seconds was disorienting in the extreme. Only the intense cold of the room the demon was in told Kaestra which was was to danger and which to relative safety. She seemed to move in slow-motion as she fled the front line, falling back only a bit - her half-frozen legs not getting her very far. Meanwhile, the young blond tried to steady her spinning head and prepare for what was sure to be a hard fight with a demon.

"Uh, right, right!" the hunters cried, and fired their arrows down the hallway. They all missed, though, and only Georg's dagger...and the creature's own trident... caused injury.
__________________As Kaestra retreated from the cold, Xavroar stepped back and waited for the mezzodemon to approach. Surprisingly, as it charged forward, the lizardman noted the length of its trident. Far greater reach did it have, further than his own axe, and the demon pierced his leg before he could swing his planned retaliatory strike. And not only did the trident pierce him, but the demon held it there, keeping Xavroar 13 damage, restrained and ongoing 5 damage (save ends both)out of reach, and unable to attack! Unwilling to risk direct exposure to the demon's mind again Valynna resorted to a series of lesser probes, causing ticks and misdirections that resulted in the demon nicking itself until it's tainted blood flowed freely from numerous minor wounds.
