Zurien is caught a little off guard by the sudden embrace but returns it heartily. Well met Tahrase. I have been keeping tabs of your growth. I am most pleased with the young woman you have become, and proud that you chose to accompany your father on his voyage home.
__________________It is clear that the aged elf has been away from his own kind for some time, and there is a hint of sadness in his eyes. It vanishes as he turns back to regard Valin. The Brotherhood are coming. He says. I know, Valin replies. They were here already, within three days if the signs are right. Two, according to the trees. Zurien states. You do not fear them? Valin barks out a laugh that gives way to racking coughs. I am one foot in the grave already. I have come here to die old friend. From illness old age or steel is of little consequence. I will lie in the soil of my home. As I had thought. Zurien replies. I came only to wish you well. And meet my great grandchild. He takes note of Shiroiko. And she brings with her a formidable companion. He whispers a few worlds and Shiroiko approaches purring softly. It becomes clear that he has druidic talents. "I had to bring him home. He wanted nothing more than to come here. It was my duty to see to it." Tahrase replied. "Are you able to give me any news of my mother?"

Zurien offers Tahrase a slight smile. I know only that she lives and is in good health. I have very little contact with my own people. He glances back through the years at something before continuing. But I am proud to know that my family does so well for itself.
__________________A noise from outside draws all attention toward the door. The approach of many horses is unmistakeable. Through the open doorway, Valar can be seen standing in the field before the cottage, watching a column of riders approach. Shiroiko catches a scent on the air and issues a low growl. Zurin frowns. It seems they have returned. Valin stands with a vigor and fire Tahrase has not seen in him in years. This is not your fight, old friend. He reaches up to the hearth and pulls a shining sable from the scabbard there. Zurien's smile broadens. Like that has ever stopped me. He pickes up a simple oaken staff from against the wall and follows Valin out through the door. |

Tahrase follows both of them out, her daikyu in hand.

Valin watches the column as it thunders up the road towards his small cottage. Two minutes. Maybe less. He whistles and Valar turns to regard him. With a nod Valar runs off to the side, disappearing into a copse of trees about 100 feet to the west of the middle of the field.
__________________Zurien shields his eyes with his hand and scans the sky. Thunder is about somewhere. He should arrive in time to aid us should he be needed. Valin merely nods, turning back toward Tahrase. Find a good spot to shoot from, he points to the cottage. On the roof in the shade of that pine. Of Derrick and Kellerei there is no sign. |

Tahrase nodded in agreement, and silently spun around. She darted to the spot where she could easily climb upwards.

Tahrase has no sooner concealed herself atop the roof when the column of riders comes into view. They thunder up the road and turn with sharp precision toward the field and the cottage. Their formation shifts, fanning out into a half-circle that closes with Valin and Zurien.
__________________The riders are all in black armor with full faced helms. At the center of the formation, and pulling slightly forward is a rider whose cloak is red, rather than the black of his fellows. The formation draws to a halt without any commands about 50 feet from Tahrase's family members. A double rank half circle with the rider in red centering. Thirty mounted knights! His voice echoes out, deep and resonant. Valin Tolranith. Your days have come to an end. The Spirit of Chaos demands your blood. Valin's voice is an even response. Come get it then. And I'll give it more than a little of yours for the trouble |

"Not if I have anything to say about it." Tahrase murmured to herself in the common tongue of the Jade Kingdom. She smoothly pulled an arrow from her quiver, and knocked it, taking aim on the one in the red cloak. The daikyu was a bow designed to be used from horseback, but the Half Elf had enough height to her that she had learned how to use it standing, as well as riding.

The red-cloaked rider lifts his gaze slightly, and even from the distance Tahrase can feel his gaze land solidly on her. Her hand shakes slightly as a fear creeps into her belly. You will die, slowly, comes the telepathic insinuation into her thoughts.
__________________Before her, without so much as a gesture or barked command, the front rank of knights draws steel and spurs their mounts forward. It is as if a dark wave is crashing towards Valin and Zurien, but neither seems intent on anything but meeting it head on. -Will save vs fear DC 20 or take a -4 on all attack rolls, saves and skill checks for this encounter. Feel free to make attack/damage rolls also as we are now in combat.- |

In spite the fear that wrapped itself around her, Tahrase did not back down. She took careful aim with her daikyu, and called upon the cold that lived within it. Last edited by SyberJedi; 05-02-2013 at 09:28 PM. Reason: Finishing post. |
