"Stay here." Buster looks uncertain for a moment before hunkering down and watching the hole in the ceiling warily. Last edited by SpatulaOdoom; 08-02-2012 at 02:16 PM. |

Tory exits the upstairs hallway, heading down. As he leaves, still entangled by webbing, he is struck by an the damage for this is given in my previous postinvisible presence behind him. He is passed on the way down the stairs by Marcus, who is headed up. Once at the bottom, the mage-priest sees a common area empty of patrons, and containing a scared innkeeper, Buster, Kaith, Bayr, Rhian, a number of overturned tables, and the occasional immense hairy spider leg poking through the magical tunnel from the room above.
__________________Rhian is casting a spellcraft DC 21: summon elemental VIspell. Marcus reaches the top of the stairs and stops on the landing. A swarm of creatures covers a ten foot stretch of the floor ahead of him. Another ten feet beyond that stands Blane. As Marcus watches with consternation, Blane stabs himself forcefully in the leg with the arrow he is holding. There is an aranea standing just beyond Blane, now reverted to M, he was enlarged to L beforehuman size, and behind him is a similar-sized spider. He laughs at Blane, but not as hard as the spellcasting aranea just down the hall chortles as he once again whips out a grotesquely long arm across the fifteen feet between him and the scout. Blane begins to shake with an uncontrollable palsy. The small spellcaster emits a high-pitched squeel of delight. [OOC: 10 points of self-inflicted damage; also contracts 'shakes' and takes 8 dex damage] The axe-wielding aranea then moves in with a flurry of axes and bites. Blood sprays liberally onto the walls as a number of strikes meet their target. [OOC: Blane takes 67 damage] The silver lining of this terrible battering is that it seems to bring Blane somewhat back to his senses, as his head turns to focus on his attacker rather than gaze absently at the wall in confusion. There also seems to be some kind of disturbance just beside Blane, on the side close to Marcus, but whatever might be making it is not visible. There's something wrong with the way the blood spatter distributes itself, though, and Blane seems to make an instinctual movement to avoid a blow that Marcus cannot see. The axe wielder's pet spider seems content to sit behind him for now and not engage in melee. To make things worse, multiple images flicker around each aranea, making it difficult to pinpoint the correct target. In the main room of the inn below, Bayr approaches Tory and helps him to remove the webs. Kaith flies around fussing about why everyone keeps running up the stairs, and wonders why they don't all just get the hell away. |

Tory stands at the bottom of the stairs, halfway helplessly. Every ten seconds, it seemed, someone runs back into the ambush upstairs to attempt to rescue someone else. At least, thanks to Bayr, he was able to use both his arms again.
__________________"Marcus! Get! Downstairs!" Tory shouts through gritted teeth, trying to decide on a course of action. Grumbling, He reached again into one of his bag's many pockets, this time removing a Scroll of Teleport, Dimension Door, and Wall of Force.fistfull of scrolls. "Rhian, if things go south, you get everyone you can out of here." He presses the now slightly crumpled scroll of teleport into her hands, "Until then, try to bottleneck them down here where we have an advantage." And with that, Tory himself goes back upstairs, again, unrolling one of his other scrolls as he went... |

Coming up the stairs, Tory grabs Marcus and pulls him forward, towards the fray. He called for Blaine to come and join them, hoping he could pull away from combat far enough to avoid Tory himself having to enter it. He was never very good at focusing on a whole bunch of things at once. With a scroll in his free hand, Tory was already muttering the few words on it, "Whosely worn dre's thethe mortakes..." He knew there was something invisible there, so instead of diving straight in, he held off at the edge of the fight, making sure he didn't lose the spell.
__________________He tackled Blaine just as the spell was taking hold, still pulling Marcus behind with the other hand, and willing the group of them downstairs, away from the stairs. They disappeared with a swirling twist of smoke, black and purple specks lingering in the air as the trio crashes hard to the floor, downstairs. Warning: rolls have been deleted from this post.

Marcus isn't paying attention to what the others are doing. Their coordination is zero so there's not much point. It was something they were going to have to have a chat about if they survived this mess.
__________________Instead Marcus levels his bow at the invisible thing blocking Blane's exit and starts firing with incredible speed. When Tory's hand hits his shoulder Marcus simply plants his feet. There's no way the little man will move the burly ranger without his consent, there's no way Blane will be able to get clear without first clearing away the invisible creature. Rhain stays back and out of the way directing her summoned companions in a strange swishing motion. Translated from auran - "The human is my companion. Hurt him not.. Attack the spider creatures."Човекот е мојот сопатник. Боли него не .. Напад на пајакот суштества.

Blane seems to snap out of his confused state, and a look of alarm sprouts on his face. He sees Tory coming, and nimbly sidesteps whatever is interposed between him and his rescuer. As soon as the scout is within reach, Tory puts a hand on both him and Marcus and releases his magic. As the scroll turns to dust in his hands, both he and Blane appear on the main floor at the front door to the inn. To Tory's consternation, Marcus does not come along for the ride. The stubborn ranger is still upstairs with his bow. The rest of the group, however, is now in the common area of the inn, with no enemies in sight save the gargantuan spider that seems unable to fit through Rhian's tunnel despite valiant efforts on its part.
__________________Just as they land, Rhian completes a summoning and three eight-foot tall translucent beings arrive near her. They turn their dark eyes towards her and listen to her command, then fly up through Rhian's tunnel where they begin to make a lot of noise. It sounds like they are engaging the summoned spider on the other side of the tunnel. Certainly, the spider has ceased to try to get out of the room and appears to be preoccupied with other things. Blane exlaims, "He hit me with some kind of spell. Watch yourself -- I don't think its over, and I'm not thinking straight. I stabbed myself with an arrow on purpose! It bloody hurt! No guarantees I won't stab you next!" In the meantime, Marcus releases a volley of arrows and moves a step back towards the top of the stairs. His first arrow strikes the axe-wielding aranea in the shoulder, and spins the creature back five feet towards her companion. The brutish creature now has several wounds, though there is no sign that the fight has left her. Of his remaining five arrows, three go wide and clatter off ineffectually down the hall, but two of them stick into the diffuse form of the thing. To any observer unable to see invisible creatures, they would appear to be hanging in the air momentarily, then disappear. As the warder 5' step backhesitates at the top of the stairs after covering Blane and Tory's escape, the swarm of spiders on the floor invades his space and begins to climb up his legs, biting all the way. [OOC: Marcus takes Dice damage:
Almost simultaneously, Marcus feels a sharp tug on his bow, but manages to keep it in his grasp. Down the hall, he sees the spellcaster cursing and the other aranea and its companion spider backing up slightly as the axe-wielder pulls out a vial and drains it. Some of its wounds appear to mend. |

The bugs bite painfully at his legs and the wispy thing, he assumes it's something like an air elemental, slams him hard enough to bounce him off the wall. All that can be endured though, because Blane and Tory finally got out of there.
__________________Just before he turns and dashes down the stairwell Marcus locks eyes with the axe wielding thing. It's a type of look that's hard to put into words, but Marcus didn't need words. There is no hint of the humble aw' shucks good ole boy that the ranger had been for the bulk of his young life. Nor even the primal anger and grim determination that had taken root in him recently. Nor much emotion at all. His eyes simply flash with some bare cold reflection of the reaper's own scythe, promising the axe wielding creature death. Then he turns and leaps down the stairs four at a time. Last edited by SpatulaOdoom; 08-17-2012 at 02:17 PM. |

With everyone finally together, and in an area not full of either poison or ambushing enemies, Tory grasps his symbol to Varil. "May we live to fight another day." He prays, and the symbol shines with a soft light, something that would not otherwise have been possible without the presence of the watchers.
__________________"Let's get them down here where we can fight on our terms." Tory grunts, still fingering the other scroll he had pulled forth. He probably wouldn't need it now unless the party needed to beat a hasty retreat... but one never knew. |
