Table Talk
Congratulate your fellow-players on good die rolls, talk about your kids or the weather, or discuss how you're going to work together to flank that monster (of course you could also talk about that last one in-character too.) It's probably a good idea to keep an eye on this thread because I prefer an uncluttered game thread, and will try to keep all the "meta-game" talk in here. So there will be relevant information in here that's not in the game thread. This thread or PMs are also a good place to talk to me about how I'm running the game. This is supposed to teach you, but at least as importantly it's supposed to be fun. I think I'm a decent DM, but I am only a mammal and make mistakes, so don't be shy if you think I'm doing something wrong, or not putting fun first! That is my number one commitment. Welcome! |

Guests can feel welcome to post in this thread and follow the game even if you're not playing.
__________________If you've been accepted to this game please post to say hello and post the link to your character sheet and your character's background and other information in the characters thread. Please also link or upload a picture that I can use to represent your character on the battle maps. I crop and shrink these down to less than 50 pixels square, so don't obsess over getting exactly the right eyebrows. If you want, I can give you a generic token. First decision: Normally we would start with you all hanging around in a tavern, looking for work, then hearing what work is available and going to meet someone who will give you your quest. This might take a good week or two to do by play-by-post. However, I'm prepared to say you've already agreed to fight the kobolds and gone to their lair, and we can get right to the action tomorrow. How do you want to play it? Last edited by Nocturnal; 07-25-2010 at 07:53 PM. |

Hey. Oh wow I'm really excited about this, I stayed up all night just to see.
Also for the tokens you could just use the first letter of Character names? It's saves confusion if two pictures are alike and too small to reconize. Edit: I don't mind either, if the rest of the players want to start with the classic bar scene that's okay but I understand it could take some time, up to everyone else I'm completely up for jumping straight in to. Decisions! I am up for either the RP or the combat. If it comes down to it and my vote is the deciding factor, put it in combat.

We can certainly use the first letters of the character names. That's easy and very clear, and your characters all have different first initials. Is that all right with everyone? I can pick a background color for your token however I like? ("You're Mr. Pink!" "Why do I have to be Mr. Pink?")
__________________That's great Joe! I'd maybe add to the defenses line AC: 16 (18 vs. OA) Fort: 10 Ref: 11 Will: 16 By the way, Healer's Lore got errata so it's weaker now: You only get that bonus when you grant a healing surge with one of your powers. So it does affect your Healing Words, but it doesn't affect your Beacon of Hope, which only heals 5 (not 9.) So you know. And decide how soon you want to use Second Chance. Some people save it until they're bloodied (half HP) or they get hit by a creature they know is a big damage dealer, but I don't know why not use it right away. Even if you have more than one Action Point (it could happen because you get one about every two battles and they add up) you can only use one in each combat, and that's why I asked you to include it in your powers list. Occasionally it might happen that you started a combat with 2 action points, used one of them, and then you have 1 left but you can't use it anymore that battle. A few "boss"-like monsters have action points, and if they have more than one they can use all of them in the same battle. In my sheet instead of adding the power I wrote "1, Available" so I'd know I could use it. Anyway, I'm the kind of guy who blows those action points and encounter powers as soon as I can. |

Ah yeah I made the changes, and feel free to make any more suggestions they really help.
And I just so happen to be the kind of guy who saves all of the powers for the boss and finds out it's not that difficult and so never ends up using them. Last edited by JoeStevens; 07-25-2010 at 09:45 PM. |

Haha, that totally happened when I ran this game for my tabletop group! They had such an easy time of it that nobody dared to use a Daily power until they met the kobold leader - and even then none of them thought they needed to.

__________________Hi guys, im playing the barbarian, and boy am i quite happy they are alive and well in 4th edition i've got minimal experience with 4th so this will legitimatly be a learning experience for me I used to run 3.5 games here and i might again, someday, when i can find all my books. But its good to get some PC time in, here's to a good game! And for the opening scene its all on you guys; i would actually like to see a bar scene where we take the contract; for a number of reasons. it would give us bearings as to where we are it would let us bond but it would slow down the adventure a full day or two as opposed to hopping into the action. Hm it appears i might have argued myself down... |

I'm fine with jumping in personally, i think even in nocturnal's eyes this is more of a quick teaching thing rather then a regular adventure. Plus since he's doing it to help out the new guys it'd be nice to keep it relatively short for him at least imo. Also, about me, used to do tabletop dnd 3.5 loooong time ago. In my frist 3.5 adventure currently actually have absolutely 0 experience with 4e so if i mess up feel free to tell me. Also, i generally play a hack em slash em char so cleric is also pretty new to me. Fingers and toes crossed i keep you alive!
Also made the changes you suggested Noc, i however had to pick a different ritual with being short on gold and all. Last edited by Faerkin; 07-26-2010 at 01:14 AM. |

Hey Faerkin no worries the parties got two healers (Me and You) so to be honest I think we'll do just fine.
If at any point you feel like changing between Healing and striking for a while let me know and that way one of use can step forward with the healing while the other stands back and blasts the baddies

Wewt for blasting/stabbing/slashing/exploding baddies! I'm probably gonna need a heal or two pretty often. I tend to sneak attack my way into the middle of unsavory situations.

Stiyl please write down what your powers do and how much Dark One's Blessing heals you, don't write only the names. That is not enough to know what it means unless you memorized the books. You also need to leave Improved Dark One's Blessing written in your Feats. Wizzard is the last one who still hasn't checked in, we will give him a little while longer... I'll probably be healing most of the time and just staying back and uses Lance Of Faith etc.
Also, where did I post that format for my combat? I need it because I'm on my laptop at my dads instead of on the main computer at my Mums. Edit:I found it. Last edited by JoeStevens; 07-26-2010 at 05:09 PM. |
