Jarkan, waves off Merrics healing, Hold off on the healing, unless I get hit again, as he brings he ax arm high and his shield arm low. Jarkan, with a quick rotation of his arm, drops the ax back and low, before bring his weapon forward past his right knee towards the drakes leg. After the Drake feels the bite of his weapon Jarkan shifts back to the top of the stairs.

For a moment Xiltas thought over using his climbing kit to get over the wall, until he heard the door begin to rattle. The warlock's right, they are coming in, and I think we'll need more help down here then they do up there.. he thought as he looked towards the lightly armoured warlock and rogue. Positioning himself quickly behind the pool of goo, hoping to possibly drag one in, Xiltas readies himself with whip at hand. "Stay clear of the door and let's attack from from afar!" He shouts to Erik and Chant. Let them come...

While the clerics rain down beams of sizzling holy fire upon the creature, Jarkan cripples the drake and repositions himself back at the top of the stairs. This creature is remarkably tenacious compared to the kobolds they have faced up until now. It's bleeding freely, limbs mangled, and clearly on its last legs, but won't give up or flee while it has allies around to defend. It hobbles back up to Jarkan and lunges at him with a desperate attack that punches past his defenses to latch onto his throat. The creature's teeth rip and tear at Jarkan's scaled flesh as its jaws clamp on his windpipe, and it is only the strength he received from Merric's divine light that keeps Jarkan from passing out. He will be down soon unless someone can help him.
The double doors suddenly burst open in a shower of splinters, and those in the main tomb can see two slavering reptilian beasts standing behind it. They are about as tall at the shoulder as a kobold! Erik and the druid are prepared, as Erik lobs a blast of eldritch energy he has charged up at the first enemy he sees. However, he prudently repositioned himself behind a coffin first, and shooting past it and the door corner confounds his aim the merest amount, so his bolt whizzes an inch above the thing's nose. Xiltas whips his thorny vine across the sludge pool and it wraps around the beast's scaly leg, but when he tries to drag the drake it digs its claws into the floor and the vine twists and comes off, causing no injury! Different tactics may be required to bring down these formidable enemies. The drake that both attacked ignores them and makes its way through the splintered doorway, scrambling up a coffin to get around Chant - apparently it has sniffed out the tiefling and others through the door. It loses its footing coming down from the coffin however, and instead of biting Chant ends up smacking its face into the wall opposite him. The creature yelps and grunts. The last surviving kobold draws and tries to lob another javelin around the corner and up at Merric without looking, but the weapon sails overhead to land in the floor on the other side. This kobold barks a few commands to the drakes and high-tails it to the next room when the door is breached, no doubt gone to warn others of the heroes' approach. The strong defensive beasts and weak, game-playing kobolds suggest to the more insightful or intelligent of the heroes that this corridor must lead into the very heart of the kobold settlement. They must fight through the kobolds' dangerous pets and press on, but at the moment two of the companions are urgently in need of assistance. Last edited by Nocturnal; 08-07-2010 at 09:40 PM. |

Blasting the drake with a Lance Of Pure light the beasts defence are lowered as it turns it's attention to me opening it's self to the next attack. Merric then turns his attention to the badly wounded Jarkan. He touchs Jarkan and a sheet of pure light encases him healing his wounds.

The drake lunges at Merric as he tries to attack but using his halfling luck Merric doges the Drakes bite lining it up for Jarkans axe, the axe slicing the head of the Guard Drake straight off as it's body rolls down the stairs. "Yes! May Bahamut have mercy on it's soul. BUT YEAH! He then continues to heal Jarkan.

The drake notices Merric's fingers lighting up with a radiant glow and it releases Jarkan's throat to lunge at Merric's instead. The halfling's small frame and quick reflexes allow it to dodge, and Jarkan musters his last strength to cleave through the back of the monster's neck with his axe. Merric blasts it in the face with a lance of radiance at the same time, finishing the hardy, dangerous creature before it can do any further harm. Then he tends to the fighter's wounds as an encore.

Xiltas cursed his luck. This wasn't going well. Chant was about to get surrounded, and Xiltas could hear grunts and shouts coming from atop the wall. If we can work to take one of these downs, it will split the pressure between us.. He peered at the drake near Chant. He considered shifting into his beast form to assist, but he wouldn't make it in time before the drake got an attack off. I'll try to give him some room to breathe, thought Xiltas as he decided on another try of his whip. He shouted across the corridor as he shifted towards the other side of a coffin, "Whether this fails or not, move towards me so I can assist in my bestial form!" These creatures were stronger and heavier then the kobolds.. he knew he would have to change his tactics soon, but for now, it was this or nothing.

"If I try to get over there it's just gonna bite my rear end off! Then i'll be as short and squat as the dwarf! No one wants to be that ugly." This could get bad. I can't make it past this guy without him snapping at me and I can hear the one behind the door. Oh well. Someone will save me if it gets too bad! Chant attacks with a measured lunge and immediately resets his defense.

Watching the toll the first one took on the group and eying two more Thoradin decides it best to finish off the beast quick. With one more glace at Jarken, whose wounds seem to look alot better, and takes a deep breath to steady himself. Thoradin moves quickly next the the drake hoping to finish this one off much faster then the last. Swinging his warhammer with all his strength towards the best the weapon comes up a bit short missing with the monsterous blow. He steadies himself, muttering a curse of his bad fortune then looks back to Jarken over his shoulder. "Much as I hate him, we can't let these things surround Chant"

Erik is displeased with his earlier miss and focuses his attention on the current battle. He can see that the rogue is surrounded by the drakes and is in need of assistance. Erik focuses on the nearest drake and curses it with a silent word. Erik then raises his hand and draws on his demonic power, ropes of shadow burst from his hands and engulf the drake. Life and energy are drained from the drake and pulled into Erik's body invigorating him.

Jarkan, overconfident in his attack on the drake, relaxes his left arm lowing his shield slightly. At that moment, Jarkan sees movement and attempts to re-raise his shield to block, but it is to late, as he can feel many spiny teeth piercing his throat. His legs become weak, and just as he is about to collapse, he sees and feels a flash of light. As the grip on his throat relaxes, Jarkan instinctively whips up his axe feeling it connect into the beast.
Jarkan with his strength returned, nods to his comrade before he bounds down the stairs as he growls These things are starting to irratate me. As he reaches the bottom of the stairs, he twist and slides to the wall swinging his axe downwards toward another one of the beasts. Last edited by Kshnik; 08-08-2010 at 09:18 PM. Once more Xiltas's vine whip almost catches the drake but the thorns slip off its scaly skin, unable to drag the doughty animal. It was so close!
Thoradin and Jarkan jostle each other down the stairs to reach the action, getting in each others' way. Thoradin throws all his weight into the blow, and though it would have dealt amazing damage if it hit, his swing overshoots and the drake dodges it. Chant slices the drake before him with his dagger and prepares to stab again, but this second attack sadly lacks his usual finesse, and a brute-force attack doesn't penetrate the drake's scales or stop it from mauling Chant. The party will have to focus on one of the two enemies and take it down quickly, but the pair of drakes seem to have the same idea as they circle Chant, attacking in tandem. He fortunately manages to ward off one of the attacks, but can't stand up to such an assault for long. |

Thoradin let's out a soft sigh as he sees the monsters surround Chant, leaving him bloodied, "Darn son of a demons gonna get himself killed!". Resigned to the idea of finishing off one of the drakes quickly and trying to keep Chant alive, Thoradin focuses on some of the last of his healing energy coating his warhammer in a warm, gentle white glow. Satisfied he moves to the side of the drake as it focuses on Chant and heaves his warhammer into the creatures flank. Good luck on the drakes part has him shift to the right out of the swings radius and leaves Thoradin flustered beyond belief. He takes a deep breath as the drake turns back to Chant. He damns his luck hoping he woulda been able to heal him with the first move. After a moment of concentration, honing his adrenaline rush of battle he mutters a quick defensive spell and swings mightily with his warhammer catching the beast just behind his left foreleg and tearing out a good chunk of it leaving it well bloodied. Satisfied he at least helped his companion somewhat with his spell, he smile stretches from ear to ear as he looks at the damage his warhammer did.

They don't honestly think they can kill ME? Chant calls on the devilish rage innate to his race and flings an ugly red blob of flame at the drake nearest the wall. While the drake is distracted, Chant takes a step to his right and turns so that he can see both drakes. Chant spins and launches the dagger at close range into the eye of the drake. When the dagger returns to his hand, Chant flings it at the other drake, gashing it's forehead and causing blood to run into its eyes. While the drakes are distracted by rogues stinging blows, Chant calms himself, allowing a small amount of devilish energy to heal his wounds. "Son of a DEVIL, ignorant dwarf!"
