What's the hold up?
Let's get going, shall we? We haven't all week to cleanse the well, you know. |

Quiivern gestures to the empty space in front of him that needs to be filled by someone. Well... If someone will drive me. I'll be taken. I don't really have a choice.

Tim shifts his steed a bit and faces Quiivern.
__________________"Come now, Quiivern! Just give her a small kick and she'll be off. When you want her to stop, pull on the reigns. There's really nothing to it." He then replies to Raiiel "I have now doubt that Sigil can go as fast as any horse, but that is without burden. With you riding him he might not be able to keep up." Tim notices that although the saddle was large enough for the two of them, Raiiel was seated in an uncomfortable position. "Here," He scoots forward on the saddle giving Raiiel a better seat "That should last you till we get there." Raiiel notices that Tim is right on the very front of the saddle, in a more uncomfortable spot than she was before but he shows no sign of discomfort. Tim sees Quiivern still struggling on top of the horse. "I think you should go first Quiivern." Tim slaps the horses bottom. That ought to help him along. Tim began Galloping after Quiiverns horse. |

Quiivern screams in surprise and his arms go flying. His ropes, however, keep him from falling off. Eventually, he finds the reigns of the horse and grabs a hold. He starts to pull and kick exactly how Tim tells him.
The entire time however, you can hear him muttering under his breath and making grumbling noises. |

Azog chuckles at Quiivern's inability to properly ride. He pats himself on the back for one more thing that he can do, that the Dwarf cannot. He rides with the grace of a natural, and maintains a constant lookout for any thing that might cause them danger on the road. Whatever these "ashworms" that Edea mentioned were, they probably were not a good thing. Best to be prepared for any sort of problem.
__________________The Half-Orc kept his axe at the ready. He knew that bandits or some sort of cruel person might try to waylay them on their way to the aqueduct, and if a fight broke out, he did not trust the others to be able to properly defend themselves on horseback. As they ride, he tests his abilities to guide the horse with his knees, so that he might be able to use his axe properly if necessary. |

Swald chuckles at Quiivern's antics while riding along. The silent Hayward behind him making Swald more than a little anxious.
If he falls, I don't suppose I'll be the one to stop for him. |

You gallop North through town, checking the town map regularly to make sure you were going the right way. You seemed to fit in well with the other people on the street: horses seemed to be quite popular in this town. You see animals of all sorts being used as mounts: camels, donkeys, mules and even monstrous scorpions here and there, which make odd hissing noises as your horses pass. You reach the northern gate and pass into the desert, where there are three rocky dunes rising up into the blue sky. The landscape is cracked and broken here, but off in the distance you see nothing but soft sand for miles. It's a clear day, and it's perfect for riding. After a few minutes of riding, you spot a strange shift in the sand somewhere ahead of you. Something was moving towards you...

Tim looks out across the desert at the thing moving towards them. Not sure if it was hostile or not, he decided to be ready anyways. Taking care not to poke Raiiel with his bow, he unsheathes it, controlling the horse with his knees. He picks out an arrow from the dark quiver on his back and nocks the arrow.

Raiiel nods, a battle on horseback wasn't something any of them were prepard for, and rwo of them firing from horseback at once was sure to be trying. In the middle of the dessert the odds of finding cover were slim to none. With a sigh of annoyance she relented, Fine, time for battle...Should we stop? We've got more weight then we should, and Quiivern would be a more suitable ground combatant. Also, it's a little hard to cast spells from horseback. Perhaps we can offer surrender, and then when they stop to take their loot ambush them. One hand wrapped around Tim's midsection the other went into her grenade satchel and pulled out a flash of oil. After a moment she let go of Tim and set the fuse on fire, looking for more detail on the attackers, or any cover that can force them into close quarters combat.

The way the shifting sand moved toward them didn't look very friendly.
__________________"Unfortunately this doesn't look like bandits, I don't think they know how to travel under the sand. It might be one of those ashworms Edea spoke about. I can't quite make it out though. I'll slow the horse some, It might be best to make an initial attack from the horses and when the combat begins we can stop or dismount." Tim pulls on the reigns slightly with one hand, bringing the horse to a fast trot. He then decides to take a quick shot. May as well try, I might get lucky. He grabs the bow with both hands and draws back the string, loosing the shaft at the moving sand. |

Raiiel's eyes widened in surprise and horror, she had trained Sigil in many functions, the final function was a seccondary course in attacking unusual targets, and this applied. It was a completely different form of combat then he was used to. (sylvan) Sigil! Break formation, retreat! Sigil looked up in total confusion. He was brilliant as far as dogs go, but this was an enemy that didn't exist in his natural environment, and he wasn't an elf, the concept "Something you've never seen before, and can't smell comming, is going to attack from an angle you've never defended from." would take a full day to get across. Fortunately for her Sigil didn't have to understand why, he just had to do as he was told. After a slight delay Sigil broke from formation and swerved right heading away from combat.

Azog sees the shifting sand. In his mind, he concurs with Tim's assessment. It must be one of the ashworms. He readies his axe, gripping it in only one hand at this point, but ready to strike with both when the need arises. He looks harder at the sands, trying to detect anything else.
__________________Despite the possibility for extreme danger, Azog was excited for the coming battle. He had not fought from horseback yet, so that would be an excellent test of his abilities. And after all, it was another battle, and the thirst for blood was rising once more (though it was not to be confused with the thirst of the desert). |

As Tim suggested to Raiiel, the creature was definitely moving underneath the sand. Raiiel notices a black hide and a pair of sharp teeth momentarily as the creature rises and then falls back into the sand, seeming to completely disappear in front of the dunes ahead. Azog eyes search the landscape for the creature, but it had left seldom more than a circular hole as it retreated into the sands. Last edited by Chekken; 08-21-2010 at 09:46 PM. |
