Death Pit Battle: Alpha vs. Alek

The crowd was cheering again. Today had been a brilliant day for combat, as many battles had gone today, but it was all a lead up to the final battle. The brave and valiant warrior Alek, who had shown great skill and tenacity in the pit before had turned on his former partner, wanting the glory to be all his. Alpha, the construct, had been a relative unknown until the day he showed up with Alek and cleanly decapitated the famous Tiefling Bard, Nirisk. Alpha’s display of brutality had earned him quite a bit of recognition, but he was even more hated now than before. Alpha had become the monster, and Alek had put himself up as being the one that would slay him.

Today, the battle had been set and either the monster or the slayer would come out on top. The crowd silenced once again as the announcer approached the edge of his balcony, “Tonight, we have the battle, the war that will decided not only who the strongest and toughest of the Death Pit is, but also much more than that. Since the beginning of time, men have set out to defend their land from monsters. For ages, many have lost their lives defending people like you and me, and tonight we get to see a true monster face off against a man that wants nothing more than to slay the creature.” The gates opened, and on opposite sides of the arena, Alek and Alpha stepped out, both ready for the contest the waited to begin. “For the Blue Team, the brave and ruthless warrior, Alek!” The crowd did more than just cheer, they erupted. The arena shook as the sounds of the roaring crowd leapt from the arena and went far out into the surrounding city. “And for the Red Team, the malicious monster, Alpha!” The crowd’s cheers of excitement turned into a barrage of boos and mockery. The people of this fair city wanted to see the construct slain. Would they get their wish?

As Alek entered the arena, to the roar of the crowd, he knew this certainly wasn't a group that needed to be pumped up. He gave a hearty wave to the crowd, blew a few kisses, and did his usual stretch. Without any more hesitation the fight was on.

OOC I just noticed something about your character sheet: You do know that in 4e, an Amulet of Protection gives a +1 Bonus to Fort, Reflex, and Will defenses and not AC right? Your AC should only be 19 and your defenses should all be 1 higher from the Enhancement Bonus provided by the amulet.

Alpha ignores the boos and mockery, knowing that this battle would be more important than any other. He was focused, knowing that his opponent was as tough as they come. Waiting to see what his opponent would do, he activated his trinket and laid in wait.
ActionsMinor: Activate Talon Amulet’s Daily Power
OOC Go with what you got for now. The defenses may help, you never know. It's your turn, but Alpha does have a readied action

"So you're not gonna make the first move huh ?" Alek rushed forward, and when he stopped he drew out his sword in one swift motion and mocked throwing it. The large blade hurtled through the air at its opponent, slashing at him, before returning to Alek. "You better get serious if you wanna beat me !" Alek called out with a grin, his eyes alight with the rush of battle.

ActionsMove Action: Move to G9
Standard Action: Fullblade's psychokinetic ability
Minor Action: Daily utility - Unstoppable. 2d6+CON temp hp


Dice 1d20+6 for attack, 2d6+4 for unstoppable.:
1d20+6 (2)+6 Total = 8
2d6+4 (3, 3)+4 Total = 10

Alek had not done as Alpha expected, but it didn’t matter. The warrior had spent his turn making a foolish attempt as using magicks against the warforged, which resulted in nothing. Alpha took a few steps forward, planted his feet, and then charged at the warrior. The construct plowed into Alek, bashing him hard with his shield. The battlerager was taken off his feet and flew back in the air, landing flat on his back. Alpha stood ready for whatever his one time partner had in store for him.
ActionsMove: Move to G4
Standard Action: Charge to G8 and attack with Shield Bash as part of the Charge.
Hit for 8 Damage, push Alek back to G10, and knock Alek Prone
Mark Alek

Dice Attack and Damage:
1d20+9 (18)+9 Total = 27

Alek made an 'oof' sound as he hit the ground but quickly got back up. "Not bad not bad." He said with a grin. Then, with a sudden lunge, he struck out at Alpha with an unnatural reach. His slash fell short however and Alek scoffed "Just not my day it seems"

Standard: Lunging strike, +1 reach -1 attack, 2[W]+str.
Lost 8 temp hp, gain 4 from shield bash

OOC You don't gain any Temporary Hit Points. You only gain them if you hit with an attack or if you miss with an Invigorating attacks. Since you missed and it wasn't an Invigorating Power, you only have the 2 Temporary from before. Also, since you did agree to it, you currently grant combat advantage to Alpha as part of the Natural 1 rule we implemented.

oocI gain my constitution mod in temporary hp every time I'm struck by a close range attack.

OOC No you don't, only when you attack. What you are talking about was fixed in the Errata. Also, I have no idea what happened with those rolls. Did a double click on the submit button because my stuff was running slow. Here's a reroll of that, just so it's a clean one if you'll allow.
Dice Attack and Damage:
1d20+12 (10)+12 Total = 22
3d8+6 (3, 2, 5)+6 Total = 16


Battlerager Vigor (from the errata HERE)
Page 6: Add “You gain the hit points only after the
attack is resolved” to the end of the first two paragraphs.
This change provides clearer timing for the
acquisition of the temporary hit points. This update
ensures that a character does not gain the benefit
of the feature’s third paragraph on the same attack
granting temporary hit points to him or her.

Old Update: Delete the first two paragraphs and
replace them with the following text. The first two
paragraphs of original text were removed because
they allowed the battlerager to gain excessive temporary
hit points and thus ignore most standard
monster attacks and all minion attacks.

Whenever you hit an enemy with a melee or a close
attack, you gain temporary hit points equal to your
Constitution modifier, plus any temporary hit points
normally granted by the power. You gain the hit
points only after the attack is resolved

If you use an invigorating fighter attack power
and miss every target with it, you gain temporary hit
points equal to your Constitution modifier. You gain
the hit points only after the attack is resolved.

OOCI have never followed errata and am not about to start. The entire basis for my character is based on that feature and I intend to stick to it.

OOC The Errata is there to fix the rules. Most of us follow that Errata and most DMs will say that you have to. If you can't go by the current rules, then there is no reason to continue this battle. Alpha is built using all updates to the rules. If you decide to not use the rules you are essential running a character that isn't in line with the rules of most other characters. You can ask Cid how he wants to handle this since it will impact not only little Out of Game stuff like this, but also the actual Game he has set up for you.
