City Creation Thread

This will go on simultaneously with Character Creation. First of all, everyone weigh in on what city they would like this game to be a part of and why. I like either El Paso or Brownsville, since I know Texas fairly well, and have at least been to those cities, even though I haven't lived there for any length of time. Also, I have ideas involving the border between the US and Mexico and some of the folklore and superstitions of the area.
__________________Also, everyone come up with 1 or 2 things they would like to see in the game. This can be anything at all, from a specific monster, to a theme such as corruption, or anything else you can think of. |

From my backstory, he has a rivalry with Drug Dealers, so some of them would be good, also possibly third-eye. And I need the Park as a location. As to city, I have no clue about anywhere that is not either Corpus Christi or Dallas / Ft. Worth. Anything else I can figure out from Google Maps and such, however.
Larger the city, I figure the more supernatural should be there, so if we have a large enough city we could have more going on. I mean I doubt every tiny city has 20 flavors of supernatural villainy, whereas Dallas or a city of remotely the same size would have pretty much everything. (Like Chicago.) |

Texas sounds good to me. I know next to nothing (with the exception of what some of the golf courses look like from watching the PGA), but I can do a little research as the book suggests. I'm from Canada, and the only state I've been to is California and that was when I was a kid, so I don't even remember much about that.
My sister lived in Texas for a while doing some post graduate work, so I can get some info from her. |

I shall vote for Brownsville, Texas just because I like the song called "Brownsville Girl" by Bob Dylan.
I would like to see vampires of Red and White Court varieties because this is a game based on the Dresden Files. And if we're talking US/Mexico folklore...I'm fully expecting at least one of us to run into El Chupacabra. |

El Chupacabra would eat us alive. And then go after our goats. I will NOT stand for the devouring of my goats.

What if it was just a demonically possessed Luchador?
And, what level of resources do we need to have goats in this game? |

Haha the Chupacabra is definitely a possibility in Texas, and I though Brownsville or El Paso would work better than DFW because of the Mexican border, with all the many problems and possibilities that stem from the trafficking of drugs and people across the border. Plus, the escalating violence of the drug cartels in real life could stem from a supernatural cause in the game, or even a clued in mortal like Marcone, except Mexican and more violent, clashing with supernatural types(Red Court, White Court maybe?) trying to muscle in on his territory.
__________________Also, both of those are decent sized cities, but nowhere near as large and spread out as the metroplex is. As someone who lives in the DFW area a car is necessary to get anywhere and there is just so much to do that it's hard to pick out all the possible locations. Still, I'd be willing to work with the DFW area too, I just think it might be too much to put together. |

If size of the city is a direct connection to its supernatural, El Paso is bigger, right? (I'm just guessing based on the fact that I've been to El Paso and am not sure I know anything about Brownsville). But I have lived much of my life in hot desert type places, so Texas near the mexican border is great. Also great for drug lords NightSky (realistically so, eep). If the border is important, El Paso is definitely the way to go.
However we can probably just claim Ley Lines or something and any place can be supernatural. Let me brainstorm what might be fun to include. At this point, I suspect I'll be inspired most by character creation and what will play up to the strengths and weaknesses of our characters. |

If we do decide on the DFW area though I can limit the game to just a few places around the area, such as an area bracketed by 635 to the North and East, I-20 to the South, and Arlington, Euless, and DFW airport to the West. That's still a massive area with 2 airports, a couple of small lakes and parks, and lots and lots of buildings and attractions, but it cuts out Fort Worth, Plano, Mesquite, Desoto, and all those other cities in the area.

I don't know much about Texas- haven't been there since I was... seven or something. So, research must be done here too.

Yea, El Paso is the 6th largest city in Texas according to Wikipedia, 22nd largest in the USA, so would be a good bit bigger than Brownsville. Also, Juarez is twice as big of El Paso on the south side of the Border, and the combined population for the two cities is over 2 million people. Brownsville is the 15th largest city in Texas according to wikipedia, and has about 1/4 the the population of El Paso.

Hmm, Dallas might actually work better if we stick to Dallas itself and don't try to account for the whole DFW area. There are tons of clubs and bars, the ballpark and Cowboys stadium in Arlington, the American Airline Center and many other music venues, a few museums, 2 airports including DFW, the 2nd largest in the nation, and a handful of universities. Also there are lakes and a couple forests in the area, as well as the polluted Trinity River.

Hehe, I know the Metroplex very well. I hate the Cowboys with a passion in real life. I'd say either there or El Paso. Like I said: Size matters. (Anyone who says differently is lying.)
