Hmm. Some more ideas. Not sure what do with them:
__________________Some of Austin's alleyways could in fact be inhabited by Cactus Cat as well as normal feral Felis domesticus. The shreiks of drunken Cactus Cat might cause trouble for local police meant to investigate the sounds, or other well-meaning bystanders. Can we have a jackalope? Maybe a Hoop Snake that's really an ouroboros, symbolizing something cycling, returning, recurring? Who's the Warden for our region? I guess that can come up in game at some point... Oh yeah. And I think we could have some fun with at least one place plagued with a ghost sort of thing. |

As we are in Texas, the gentleman from White Night's visit to New Mexico, as well as the gentleman called in Turn Coat (who compares being an American Warden to being a mushroom) would be our warden. I forget his name, but that's who it is. If you've read the books you know who I mean.
Texas is called "Eastern" U.S. so we fall under HARRY!~ *squee* He's the Regional Commander, so alas, to any of our female members: you will likely not get the chance to seduce Warden Ramirez. |

I would personally enjoy going to a video store with a ridiculous amount of VHS tapes.
And, at risk of being nitpicky...standard roller rinks would be fine for a flat track roller derby league, but a banked track is something dfferent to contend with. |

I found an interesting article about guy town. A turn of the century red light district that has been excavated in recent years. Perhaps some of the people who lived during those times are some of the ghosts running around now? It's an ancient site and if there are bodies buried there, they would make very strong zombies for a necromancer. Hooker zombies sound like something that hasn't been done before.
![]() Here's a place to buy magical supplies. (Could he the book store/supply store.) This one's a real gem. There apparently were a bunch of people who really worshipped an evil deity similar to Satan, and claimed to have magical powers due to the sacrifices they made. That sounds like it would make a good underground coven of drug dealing warlocks who have become skilled at covering their magical tracks to avoid the White Council. http://comelooksee.wordpress.com/200...der-community/ |

I like the comprehensive list. I see nothing else I would need to add. My parks are there, as is my "place to spend social time".
Oooh. HOUSING! So I lied. We need places to live... Being the horribly talented being that I am, I of course live in a building with an old CRT TV set, which mostly functions. I probably frequent the VHS place and only occasionally have tapes wind up de-magnetized. Rotary dial phone on the wall, but lights generally work. I go through bulbs like crazy, but again it's Texas so windows generally provide enough light most of the time one needs to be awake. I see my character living in his own home, with an insanely manicured lawn (slightly obsessive about nature), and high privacy fences. Because one can never have enough fence. Paranoid as he is, however, he has enough deadbolts on his doors (which are steel reinforced) to keep out most non-supernatural riff-raff, and some supernatural, complete with WARDS. (Wards create a veritable tidal wave that should knock anything vaguely human sized and shaped back 10-20 feet into the street. Non-lethal, just highly alerting and very inconveniencing) Workshop out back, complete with cellar which has a fair selection of wines and also magical components. By which we mean Garlic, Silver, Religious Icons, Cold Iron Ammunition, and a basin of Holy Water. (Did you know that a priest will pretty much just GIVE you a basin of holy water? Seriously. Try it some time.) He rides a motorcycle. An old motorcycle. It kills the environment he loves so much, but it works. He tried owning a Prius, it was a pain. I think we have more than enough for the city now.

Officially, Nik lives with his mother and sister, either in a trailer somewhere or a run-down apartment. In practice, he generally passes out at the home of whichever friend has the most beer.

I'm going to invoke my rich dad aspect, and say Elin took advantage of the current housing market crisis and bought this property at a low mortgage rate. Why rent when you can invest your money in equity and own! (so sayeth those with money).
Also it's much more easy to conduct thaumaturgy when you don't have an apartment next door to overhear (or possibly get blown up), and I'm hoping a 1930s house was probably built in a way that isn't too uncomfortable around magic. Though Elin's sponsored magic does not come with a wizard hex

Yeah that's a ton of city stuff we have going. And it's cool for y'all to have homes of your own picked out even if they won't all be adventure locations, whether real like Chiima's or made up, it's all the same to me.
__________________We need to narrow down the city's focus some, pick maybe a half dozen or so places to concentrate on. I've got to catch up on posts in the games I DM and then I'll give the Dresden RPG book a look to see what exactly we need for each city area. |

Final Vinyl is a record store that comprises the 1st floor of a building in the northern part of the downtown Austin area. The 2nd floor is filled by The Booky Nook. Both establishments are owned by Declan Philips, who's total recall of all his merchandise, and a story for every tune and tome, is considered by some to be nothing short of magical. It should be noted that the building features a No Cell Phones sign on the front door, and midday customers must be wary of being eyed suspiciously by aging hipsters.
Aspect: One Hen Two Ducks. Every day, rain or shine, Declan recites what he calls The Tibetan Memory Trick before unlocking the doors to the stores. His uncanny memory has permeated the walls and halls of the building. Any attempt at recalling complicated instructions or detailed information, including song lyrics and poetry, gains a +1 to the appropriate skill check. I made a city sheet that should be sufficient, using DnDOG coding. If nothing else, it should show how much work needs to be done to complete the city.
I figure we could just copy the format, fill in sections, then put it all together for the completed sheet. ![]() |
