OK about posting as we wait for Wowdarry but I hope he comes back because I was excited to see an Avenger in action! May not have time to post tonight though because after work I have a quick turn around too another activity Thursdays are my busy day/night right now. Regardless I will post on Fri evening! I've actually experimented with it myself, and seen a couple work in a game, though I haven't played one in a real game yet. Here are my first impressions from my solo experiments:
__________________Having powers as augmentable At-Will powers means you can use your encounter abilities as though they were at-will. This is very nice if you want to reuse the most applicable of your encounter attacks a few times in the fight. You have a smaller selection of options than most controllers. Even at Paragon level I can't immobilize anyone, for example, and chose limited utility powers and no powers that actually give me control of an enemy. However, you can use your best ones more often, so it might balance out. There's something to be said for the roleplay flavor of having very subtle powers. I quite enjoy the whole theme of fighting through mind-affecting powers, and am sure the telekinetic and other builds also come with their own nice flavor. Maybe when I get more into it I'll talk about it more. I have played an Elf Avenger once and it was loads of fun! I never once missed an attack, and no enemy could get away from me no matter how hard he ran. The damage was a trickle compared to other strikers but the reliability could not be beat, and scoring criticals was always fun. You wouldn't think that a little boost to speed here and there would make such a difference, but it was not hard to get right behind the enemy group and attack their squishiest artillery. They also can get a nice skillset if you want to play a tracker or scout. Positioning considerations change, as you're more concerned with getting your target alone than flanking. Post when you feel like it - I won't insist on a post rate for this game, I'll only drop a player who disappears for several days. |

Cool thanks for talking about mechanics and rp because I was interested in your impressions of both but forgot to ask specifically.
I think I have been neglecting speed with my druid in my solo game, and RL game, I should try to run around more. Its funny with my druid I have always been more interested in casters but I find myself liking my melee abilities more and I am really focusing on beast form. But I digress I need to start concentrating more heavily on my Invoker...which I'm sure I'll get a chance to do here soon enough. See you all later. |

Hah, well you know what they say...
"Good judgment comes from bad experience, "Bad experience comes from bad judgment." I'm not sure who says that. Thanks! It's one of my favorite books - I loved the movie growing up and my brother got me the book for my birthday one year. |

Hi, I've been away since Sunday but i'm back home now. As I said in my previous post, I wasn't sure I was ready to start a game. That includes not having the d&d character book yet, just the starter pack. However, i should have the character book by the weekend. I'll look at making a character then, but i don't expect you to wait for me.

Well Noc i really thought that quote is quite applicable to DnD. Had to dig up my Last Unicorn DVD today and watch it a couple times...the soundtrack is PERFECT one of the few perfect ones out there.

Hey Noc have to say I totally loved this paragraph in your app for the Eberron game!
((Did you buy the books? And if so do you recommend them? I used the Wiki...books are so much easier to flip though)) "War is all that Victor has ever been good at. He knows no other life. When the war ended Victor's unit was disbanded, and as part of the conditions supporting the Treaty of Thronehold, warforged were no longer needed and Victor was cast out into the cold, for the first time in his life left adrift without a chain of command. This freedom was new and frightening to Victor. Now, people saw him as a useless, unwanted and unwelcome reminder of a bitterly barbarous time, ended none too soon. He faced hostility wherever he went, and this has made him despondent and introverted." |

Thanks! I made up that bit about warforged being dismissed as part of the Treaty of Thronehold but I thought it made sense. Maybe we'll both get in, it would be fun playing with you. I'll keep you covered.
![]() Yeah the Eberron Player's Guide is great, if you're into the kind of "steampunk" setting - so far I only used it for the artificers and the warforged and changeling races, but I recently borrowed some details from there for my other game. I don't know if I can recommend the Campaign Guide. I only looked through it and there's a huge amount of setting detail, but there is more than enough to get started in the Player's Guide and as a DM I prefer to be a little looser with inventing the setting as I go anyway, so it's not of that much use to me. |

Cool the only book available at the local game shop right now is the Players Guide. I will have to wait to purchase it though.
The treaty specifying relinquishing the warforged units makes a lot of sense. It looks good to the general public both in terms of symbol and resource. It serves the bureaucrats by diminishing their perceived responsibility. Most importantly it gives Victor a lot to grapple with psychologically. Just my two cents.
