"I know a few games," Leomorn gets out his own set of wooden die. "What's the game?"

OOC: Added Equipment to sheet, Standard adventurer’s kit and Thieves’ tools.

Corin

Corin didn't like using his position and heritage -- he had avoided the Cirth military ever since Almeroth fell -- but this was one case in which he was glad he had kept his shield with the family sigil. This had been important though, so it wasn't really like he hadn't had a choice ...

Judging by the conversation, though, it seems like Stratos wasn't going to be taken completely unawares, thought Corin. That was better than he initially thought, even if it wasn't ideal. Usually, knowledge was key to a battle; you could easily outmaneuver superior numbers if you had the right information. In this case, though, no amount of extra information would help Stratos -- the fortress was at far too much of a disadvantage. Still, there wasn't much Corin could do to aid with defense of the city besides the warning, and he wanted to avoid association with the military if at all possible.

The problem was, he was already in the fortress, and he now had no good reason for being there. Time to make a cover for myself, Corin thinks to himself, walking up to the knight he noticed earlier. "Good sir, I recognize that crest, though I cannot for the life of me place to whom it belongs, Corin addresses the knight. "Who might I have the honor of addressing?"

After listening to The Fist Adelaide is left with more questions than answers. 'Who are the Morskies?' she thought 'Wait--The night?' Is the situation really that dire?'. Stratos is a fortress, she figured, as long as the main gates are the only way in then it would take a larger force, able to escourt seige equipment into Cirth territory, to be able to take the fortress. 'If a force like that--' her train of thought ended as someone addressed her.

"Oh-- Greetings, my name is Sir Adelaide and this crest is the emblem of House Geyer. I am a knight in the Duke's service", she explained to the man, "and whom might you be?". Glancing over him she also notices a shield with an emblem; "are you also a Knight? Or part of the military?" she continued.

Viland

He blinks a few times then reaches up and sticks his little finger in his ear, wiggling it around a bit. He then leans forward and says "I seem to be a bit deaf there, Drill Sergeant, can't quite make out WHAT THE BLOODY HELL YOU'RE YELLING ABOUT!" he bellows the last of his words into the man's face, grunting once done. "I thinks yer momma didn't hug you enough as a boy! Now quit yer belly-achin and tell me where I can lay down? In the mornin ye can tell me who to kill..."

These plainsfolk, always so jumpy. There is panic in the air, I wonder why. One of them asks me if I know about any open taverns in the area, I just stare at him without a word. He slowly walks away, I enjoy frightening these children. hmmm I wonder what all this noise is about, the fortress is as good a place as any to look i may as well go there.

Corin

"Ahh, well ..." Corin stammers, moving his shield behind him so that the emblem was no longer visible to the knight. "One might say I am militarily minded, I suppose. My name is Corin." Seeking to drive the conversation away from his identity, Corin then asks, "What do you think about the situation? Does the Duke send aid to the fortress in this time of need?" He gestures toward the Fist as he says this. Damn it, Corin, he thinks to himself. Of all the things you could bring up, you choose the military. If I'm not careful, I'm going to get dragged into a huge battle that I should have no part in ...

You are unable to find another tavern, however you do ask around for mercenary work. You ask several merchants and a farmer who know nothing. You also see a large Vykrul. You figure to ask him too since there would be no other seemingly reason for him to be around here other than selling his sword. The Vykrul man does not respond to you and just walks towards the fortress.

You are back in the main square again, but no matter how much you look for there are no jobs for hire. You sit on the fountain and think of your next move in the city. With not lodgings, work, or much money you are out of luck.

Suddenly, a hand is placed on your shoulder. You turn and see the priest from earlier, "Hello young man, do you mind if I sit here and we talk awhile. You seem like you have a lot on your mind?"

Viland
Lt. Kartman fumes, "Well...no sh*t. What have we got here? A f*cking comedian? I admire your bluntness. Hell, I like you. You can come over and f*ck my sister."

"You little scumbag! I've got your name! I've got your ass! You will not laugh! You will not cry! You will learn by the numbers. Now you best unf*ck yourself or I will unscrew your head and sh*t down your neck! Is that understood?"

"I... see. It's an honor to meet you Corin" Adelaide says as she bows slightly. "I can't say I know much about the situation to tell the truth. Duke Geyer may send aid after I report back to him, although that is at his discretion, of course. Although it seems that will have to wait..." she states, tailing off at the end.

'I need to get a grip on this situation' she thinks as she frowns slightly, she knew that the more information she had the better she could decide how to help. "Excuse me", she says to Corin as she turns to face the men at the table. "Sir Baralta" she says while saluting again "you suspect that Stratos will fall under attack tonight, correct? Presumably that means you have scouted the approaching forces. Do you know how many men you are up against? Their composition? How they are equiped? Do you have any insights as to what strategy they may employ?"

Corin

I guess I might as well take part in this, considering how deep I'm in now, Corin sighs to himself. Truth be told, he was half-convinced he had wanted to be a part of it from the start. He wasn't one to ignore a besieged fortress's predicament if there was some way he could help. Corin moves toward Adelaide and the men as she asks Baralta the questions, maneuvering himself so that he can get a look at the map on the table while listening intently for what the answers to the questions are.

OOC: awesome diplomacy roll

"You are more than welcome to sit here." Farled says as he motions to the seat. "Well, as you can see, the sky darkens and it seems there is no place in this city for a stranger to find lodging." Farled raises his had to the sky then sweeps it across the skyline. "My coin purse is nearly empty and there is no work to be found. I'm not sure where to turn next." Farled shrugs his shoulders and rubs his chin. "I am a free man though, so life is not all bad." Farled looks the priest in the eyes and smiles. "Do you have any advice for someone in my predicament?"

The large man grunts from the impact and stumbles a bit, blinking as he looks at the man, frowning. "I'm not some bloody comedian, and that hurt you snot. Cripes, son, what the hell is your problem?" He rubs his stomach and growls at the man, walking over and sitting down on a bunk bed. He smacks the man next to him on the shoulder and says "You mind iffin I take the bottom bunk? That dink is startin to upset me and I'd hate to plant him in the dirt soon, ye know?"

Corin/ Adelaide

Fist Baralta looks at Adelaide and nods his head, "Alright, we could use some knights tonight. Mr. Cain please debrief these two." Taking his cane off the table, F. Baralta saluted and left the scene. Captain Fernad also took his leave.

Now it is just you two and the grizzled veteran Cain. Cain stands five foot three and has a rough beard. He is missing his right eye, and his scar is well worn. You can see the soft red flesh in his eye socket. You feel sick for a moment thinking of what how he gained such a horrific wound.

He grins, pointing at his scar, "I earned my rank, but this is my torture. It is an itch that I can never scratch. It plagues me every day."

Shifting his weight, Cain begins explaining the details of the situation, "As you probably know last week they moved a whole legion out of this fortress. Now we only have less than one cohort of men plus some recruits. That means jack ****, if they shove some heavy stuff down our throats. There is reinforcements coming down to man this fort the day after tomorrow --"

Cain coughs heavily and pauses for a moment, "Our scouts say that they are wheeling several Valar siege machines and a Karu legion up to the main gates. Standard composition: 300 heavy calvary, 3600 light infantry, 1200 heavy, and some Morskies of course. As far as strategy, they are wheeling catapults and a single battering ram. Standard stuff I say. They will shove some heavy right down your center when they breach the wall, then let the light clean it up and over take the city."

Cain rubs his eyes for a moment, "If they can breach the wall tonight, the city is theirs."

Farled
The priest sits next to you and you begin small talking. Luckily for you, the priest is very intrigued with your politeness, "Well, I will give you lodgings tonight, however you need to listen to my story."

The priest stands up and stretches his clammy, pale hand out, "I am known as Simon. Please follow me."

The priest Simon then starts walking towards the church whether or not you agree to follow him. When you get to the church he shows you around to your bed. There is nothing in the simple room except for a few candles and a bed. He lets you get settled in for a few minutes and he returns with half a loaf of bread, "This is all I can offer you, but it is better than nothing."

Simon stands up and stares at the smoky wall, "Have you heard of a parable? It is a little story with a lot of truth in it. An earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Aesop told many parable to grown-ups and children alike. He told them simply and sincerely, in words everyone could understand, so that all might learn the lesson he was trying to teach," Simon takes a deep breath and opens a notebook, "This story reminds us about the one Aesop told about people who were kind and helpful to others. He said that one day the king would say to the people, 'Come, inherit the kingdom prepared for you, for when I was hungry you gave me food, when I was sick you visited me, when I was in prison you came to me.' But the people asked, 'Aesop, when did we see you hungry and feed you? Or sick or in prison come to you?' and the king answered, 'In as much as you have done it to unto the least of these, my brethren, you have done unto me.' "

Simon seems very passionate after telling you this story, "I cannot explain, but I ask you to go on a quest for me adventurer."

Leomorn
"Alright, bud ya know da game? Good stuff." James takes out several gold pieces, "Lets 'est out you' luck der. Follow us 'ere."

James and company stand up and walk towards the back of the inn. They open a trap door that leads into the basement. You see a group of men already playing. They all cheer and whistle and yell as they see your group come down. More sailors. When you finally reach the bottom, James pushes you in front, "Aye boys, got 'ere a youngin who 'ants to play. He is as lucky 's a buggy tis he is."

They all huddle up around you and bets start being made. What do you do?

Viland
Lt. Kartman seems satisfied and lets you sit down and addresses the rest of the company, "If you ladies leave my city, if you survive recruit training... you will be a weapon, you will be a minister of death, praying for war. But until that day you are pukes! You're the lowest form of life on Promethea. You are not even human f*cking beings! You are nothing but unorganized grabasstic pieces of amphibian sh*t! Because I am hard, you will not like me. But the more you hate me, the more you will learn. I am hard, but I am fair! There is no racial bigotry here! I do not look down on mountain men, plainsmen, nor forest men. Here you are all equally worthless! And my orders are to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear to serve in my beloved Corps! Do you maggots understand that?"

You sit there and wonder why this guy is so hardcore and intense. You have never ever encountered any military outfit that even comes close to this guy. You are really mad at him for punching you in the stomach. Eventually after more screaming, he leaves the company alone. You ask you bunk mate why Lt. Kartman is so intense.

He looks at you sceptically, "You signed your own death warrant thats what you did. This is training to become a legionary...You know? Heavy infantry? They gotta be tough on us. Are you sure your up for this."
