You come about from what will appear to be the western side of the cemetary. You see that there are lines and lines of gravestones, all of which are about 5ft wide and have 5ft spaces between them. There is one grave about every 10ft. There's also a large fence around the site that is made of black twisted metal. The western gate itself looks masterfully crafted and not scary at all. You look deeper into the cemetary and see that there is a central building and two side buildings. There seems to be one hooded figure standing at the entrance of the main building. You assume that these buildings are probably tombs. When one of you places your hand on the gate, you hear a voice speak, You are not a caretaker. Why do wish to enter the domain of the cemetary? You are not welcome here for this is a place of resting. You seek to disrupt the peace of the souls already laid to rest. The voice sounds quite firm and the gate doesn't open. Please discuss amoung yourselves if you want to enter and why. Speak to us when your decision is made and the gate will be made open. Perditazu looks to Raph. He shrugs, apologetically. Sorry... I didn't know how to tell you about this part. What I've heard is that unless you're a caretaker, you need to prove your metal on the way to the caretaker. Then they will give you permission to bury your dead as one of them. He hesitates, then offers another suggestion, There is something that I can do... He is clearly trying to be subserviant right now. But... you're really not going to like it. Raph and the others sense that he's talking about something that isn't as honorable as the service of Pelor would agree with. Last edited by Magnai; 06-13-2011 at 12:55 PM. |

"Speak your piece, Perditazu. As one religious man to another, you would know under penalty of death could i go against Pelor's word. If the caretakers have an alternate means of delivering their dead to the gods, then a funeral pyre will need to be provisioned... I glance back to Perdi only to notice the lizardfolk has drawn his bow. "Perhaps if you'd like to "take up arms" about it we could discuss matters later." I grab my mace as I try to signal Martigan and Perdi without verbage. "We can't even bury the dead in peace?"

Perditazu asks for more details, I'm not overly familiar with Pelor's opinion on allowing others to use their own... He hesitates and looks quite uncomfortable. tactics in order to pass through. He thinks again. I'm no good at being political.
__________________He clears his throat, I can use the power of Baphomet to cast the souls encased in the ground here into a tumoil and make them unable to rise up against us. He pauses, But it would put them in turmoil for the time. He attempts to clarify for the caretakers. They have their own organization for who goes where and how they are literally put in the ground. They may allow you to do what you please with the ground beforehand, given that you prove yourself. He looks to Lisssthrael, Please forgive the lizard. He's jumpy around these types. If you remember, Perditazu is also quite referent to the caretakers and he does not want to cross them. Lisssthrael seems to have a similar fearful reference of this place. Martigan also spies the Lizard fold fall back and draw his bow but thinks nothing of it and dismisses it as his animal instincts and paranoia kicking in. He keeps his arms folded not even reaching for his sword.
__________________Martigan looks back and forth at the fuzzy one and Raph as they try to come up with a plan. Is ol'Martigan gonna have to take charge? nah, lets see Mr. Fuzzy squirm a little. Alright Perditazu, you know little of the caretakers yet your beingyeah I think I'm going to be killed by the minotaur for using the word, cowed.... cowed by just a voice and stories? martigan pulls out his 'detect magic wand' and smacks it on the palm of his other hand trying to get it to work while aiming it at the gate. Alright lets see what secrets you hold...... He doesn't activate it if the Minotaur stops him or warns Martigan against such things. but if he isn't stopped he focuses it on the gate for the full duration to find out as much as possable. Lets hear it. what are these "stories" and "trials" we must overcome in order to enter or make it to the caretakers. The way I see it, the disembodied voice asked if we want to enter, and we already know the answer to that. then it also asked "why?". that answer is obvious as well. so whats the problem? martigan gets most of his questions answered as Raph and the minotaur speack to each other.
__________________But I thought they are laid to rest, shouldn't the souls of the dead move on to the afterlife? how would sending the souls into turmoil. Martigan scratches his head hard with confusion. so all that religious mumbo-jumbo is a lie? souls stick around even when laid to rest? Martigan shows a little worry in his voice and he backs away form the gates not bothering to use his wand after all. He shakes his head thinking of several outcomes, each one worse then the last and leaving only 1 good outcome. He had thrown caution to the wind before but this new outlook on religion shook him a little. Will he become one of those buried in the cemetery, made to fallow the will of the caretakers when foolhardy adventurers like himself think they can best the trials and make it to the central building? NO! not again, he had a debt to pay back and if he was going to test his metal, this was as good a place as any, If he falls here, he was far weaker than he had ever thought. Martigan pulls his sword from sheath is if it were a banner finding his resolve and moving forward with it. Let them send them, I'll cure those walking corpses by releasing them with my blade. He looks to the others who have not put forth ideas. Perditazu will take the cart up unless we can leave it here, but I think that's part of the test.... How far we are willing to go to see that these bodies get a propper durial. Lisssthrael, I'm unsure how skilled you are with the bow, but if you can, hinder the enemy so Perditazu can move on. I'll play Decoy and lure most of them away so you have less of them to worry about. With my speed I should be able to make it to Raph if I need healing. If any of you have anything to allow my swings to strike true. I'll need it as soon as we start seeing our opponents. they are slow so we shouldn't have too much trouble. flashbacks from Martigans days in the Militia came flooding to his mind as he thought of ways to get around the new foes, speed, power, and sheer numbers. This will be just like that day he fell. |

As the group approaches the gates to the cemetery, Ur dismounts Ubu, thanking his companion for bearing him this distance. At the gates, he Spot Check: 17notices the Lizardman move to the side of the group, drawing his bow.
__________________After the comments that seem to be made by the cemetery gates, Ubu begins to growl low. He obviously doesn’t like the disembodied voice. Ur was actually starting to agree with Ubu, as he pulled his Kukri from its sheath. A soft crackling sound started to emanate from the weapon, along with a greenish blue static electricity, that would link to Ur whenever he let the blade get to close to himself (think of a Jacobs ladder). The conversations between Martigan, Raph, and the Minotaur are starting to Int Check: 16show the cracks in the situation. Were Martigan, Raph and Ur lured here by the Minotaur and Lizardman for the caretakers, or are things less complicated then Ur’s mind tends to make them. Until the Minotaur and Lizardman prove themselves, Ur had every intention of not trusting the two of them, and being idly weary of them. But for that matter, what did Ur really know of Martigan and Raph. As of right now, Ur knew that the only person he could trust completely would be Ubu. With that in mind, Ur focuses his mind. A Casting Force Screenheat shimmer seems to form around Ur's chest, and then is gone. Last edited by Insacrum; 06-14-2011 at 09:29 AM. |

Martigan stands in front of the gates and wait for the others to leap into action. unfortunately he waits, and waits and then sits on the ground.

Might want to have a seat Ur, this might take a while, especially when they are not divulging all their information and speaking in riddles. he chuckles to himself Hey Lisssthrael and Ur, are you up for some gambling? I think we might have enough time to whittle up some dice and get in a few games. 'odd and even sound good to you'? |

I put the discussions aside in face of the road block. I put my mace away and place an open palm on the gate. "My name is Raphael Shelton, a healer in servitude of Pelor. I bring with me the bodies of innocents I wish laid to rest properly. I've come of my own accord to offer them proper service in the guidance of Pelor. If you would allow, I wish to bury them myself, perform the rite of passage, and consecrate their graves, as is the custom. I wish not to disturb the rest of those laid here, only to offer more bodies to hearth, so that the souls my find their way." I leave my hand on the gate in wait for a response to conjure from air.

As Raph places his hand on the gate, Perditazu takes out his huge axe and he prays in a very strange and violent tongue. The handle of his greataxe grows and sprouts spikes that supplement the metal of the axe. It looks quite violent now. He snarls and is ready for whatever is going to occur.

As the 15ft wide gate opens for you, without you pushing it open at all. You all hear a loud whisper from an unknown source. Tread lightly. |

Martigan smiles and stands seeing the leader fill out his role. that, and Martigan had just finished the 'A' sections of his spell book.
__________________He closes the book with one hand which gives a loud popping sound and tosses it back into his pack. Sounds like he has you pegged Raph. He pulls out his sword and spins it watching the light reflect off it in small bursts. Shall we? Martigan heads out first taking the front line leaving Raph behind him in case healing is needed. He doesn't know how the others will set their formation but he hopes some one will help him up front and make sure that their rear is covered. Don't step on any graves please. I might not know much about religion but I know its not nice to do so. He takes a step diagonally towards the c-14North-East and walks normally Eastward making sure not to set a foot on any of the graves or touch any of the tombstones. His quick pace leads him smack dab in the L-14middle of the cemetery and he spins around looking for anything out of the ordinary before moving on and V-14stopping only 10 feet from the figure in front of the large building. Ur and Ubu watch as Martigan seems to run his way into the cemetery. Not sure of what to expect from the situation, he walks in a bit more cautiously. ”Follow. Ubu Follow.” The dog, sensing Ur’s caution follows behind him. Ur slowly follows behind Martigan’s path, E-14ending just past the first set of tombstones, Ubu stops just at his D-14heals, sniffing the ground around him.

I take a few steps in towards the figure ahead. "I can safely assume the plagued souls are the afflicted... And do watch your footing, it is, as Martigan partially stated, disrespectful to walk on the graves of the resting." I loosen my mace from its clipping and hold it loosely as I walk. I whistle a tune mildly as we all walk, waiting for the ominous happenings to come. I spy around looking for any undead walking about, and taking note and any religious statues, shrines, or symbols for that matter.

Perditazu moves forward silently, making it to EF14/15. He has his axe out and is ready to strike anything which comes out. He is waiting for something dasterdly to happen. Lisssthrael steps to the side and finds a good size hole in the fence. He'll be safe behind this and he'll be able to shoot many arrows at whatever may show its ugly face. The world is silent as Martigan takes the first strides into the cemetary. He passes a few tombstones and nothing happens. He passes a couple more and still nothing. Maybe the caretaker was just pulling all of your collective legs. When Martigan passes by his fourth pair of tombstones, he hears a light rumbling in the ground, but probably continues on. When he reaches his last pair of tombstones, he hears more rumbling in the ground, but this time on the other side. With an eerie quickness, you all see a halfling arm jut out of the ground from where Martigan heard the first rumble (J15). Then another halfling arm, this time carrying a dagger. The hands hit the ground and you see the head of a male halfling appear from the ground. The creature gets up, not caring if someone can take free hits at him, and sees Ur close to him. He moans in hunger and displays his buckler that's on his left arm and his dagger in his right. His face looks partially decomposed and covered in dirt like he had been buried without a coffin. Meanwhile, by Martigan, there is a hobgoblin hand that pops out of the ground and crawls out of his tomb (L13). The creature looks at Martigan and drools as he readies his longsword. Martigan notices that he's got a couple of sacks around his belt that might be afully frightening. The caretaker just watches and does nothing at all. Perditazu, on the other hand, reaffirms the common guidance, Whiddle them down then make sure to take off their head! He smiles because he's in range of the halfling, even though he's so far away. He likes it like this. The zombies have no chance at all. |

Find peace once more in your grave and come no further. I will defend my self should you advance me. he holds his sword to his side and waits for it to make its decision before Martigan acts. |

Ur is able to notice the ground shift to the side of him, Ubu behind him begins to growl in the direction of the shifting dirt. ”Zombies! this shouldn’t take long.” Ur, not waiting for the thing to fully emerge from the ground, takes a Atk: 23slash at it with his Kukri, making a Dmg: 3gash along the creatures flesh. As the blade connects, it seems to get heavier upon impact, allowing the blade to dig Dmg: 1deeper in it.
__________________Not waiting for the creature to gain it's feet, or for Ur's command for that matter, Ubu gives the zombie a wide birth, coming up Move: J-16behind the creature, and taking a snap at it's back, coming up Atk: 11empty on the attempt. Once the creature has managed to stand above it's grave, Ur sees an opening and slashes again with his Kukri, this time barely Atk: 16finding a different location, his blade Dmg: 5digging in Dmg: 1deeper than before.
