Jack rattles off the quickest directions from here to the park's main entrance. He looks to Breck as he finishes. "Sounds good, right?" Four years of living with Austin city limits and heading to a different place every night has its advantages. He downs his tasty beverage as the others agree to moving outward and onward. Glass back on the counter, with a polite nod, so the barista doesn't have to fetch it, he smiles at the notion that he has three hours to talk about life, the universe, and cookies with someone who is this close to being as charming as he is.

"I suppose we cannot ignore a child in peril, though I'm also hesitant to leave our investigation for any longer than we must. Let us make haste to see this endeavor finished that we might return to our initial pursuit: that which has put Jerry in the hospital and threatens to do worse." He spoke like this naturally, he wasn't trying to be antiquated he'd simply lived a life in books, particularly those of Twain and Shakespeare. He headed towards Breck's truck with little enough difficulty. It wasn't until the efforts were prolonged that he'd have issues.

Deciding to check out the radio's announcement of an Amber alert, on the off chance it somehow is connected to their friend Jerry's assault, the various individuals decide on their own or together to stop by the park where she was last seen before heading out to their next destination.
__________________The park is a short drive, and the group arrives to see a small crowd of maybe a dozen onlookers clustered behind some police tape. Two patrol cars are pulled into the truck's parking lot and a few techs and K-9 units are sniffing around the area in case any evidence has been left behind. |

"Please tell me you're not one who wants to play license plate bingo." Those were Jack's first words upon Elin pulling away from the cafe. He offers little else between there and the park, counting on her to remember the drections he gave earlier.
__________________As they come to a stop, he offers one bit of interest before unbuckling. "Oh hey, did you want to see the pictures I took in Jerry's office?" |

Breck went over towards the parked patrol cars and looked for someone he knew, hoping he could get some more info. He knew better than to attempt going anywhere near the crime scene, and stayed well back with the other gawkers, listening as well to them on the off chance that there might be something other than the usual, ''so terrible", or "how could anyone do these things", that people generally said in times like these.

Nik tags along with the others, although he's not clear on what they expect to accomplish. Besides the people-taking motive, the incident with the young girl doesn't really seem to have any similarities. It didn't seem likely that those who would attempt to kidnap Jerry from a crowded coffeehouse would, failing that, take a young girl from the streets. And while a missing child was a very serious thing, it was police business. They couldn't just stick their noses into every crime occurring in the city. But, seeing as they're at least outside, he lights a smoke and slowly inhales.

The group stands back with the other gawkers as the police continue to sit around, questioning a couple of people who might have possibly seen something and going over the area for clues. Nothing much else is going on here, it seems in all respects to be an ordinary playground that just happened to be the site of a terrible kidnapping.

Jack glances around and takes in the scene when not busying himself pushing buttons on his cell phone. Anyone glancing over his shoulder, in addition to being at risk of utter rudeness, would note he was looking at random photos, not taking any. After a couple of minutes he turns to Elin and speaks up, but only when she is not in conversation. "Actual law enforcers doing their job. I think we can go on now, before we all get questioned. Two street hassles by uniforms in under twenty hours...pass on that."

"I would agree with that, in addition we are wasting a great deal of time for what does not appear to be a metaphysical concern. We should follow through on what we already have rather than seek out new leads. This child's disappearance, though tragic, can likely be handled by those already involved. We waste precious time and come nightfall we should all be behind safely locked doors. I think we should head out, but if your sense of propriety and unreasonable chivalry dictates we must worry for the child, I will acquiesce." Alex stands off to the side, far out of range of any of the police and their radios and other tactical equipment. He searches for a distant bench to occupy, and once found sits in it.

"There's nothin' we can do here I suppose, so we'd best leave the lab geeks to their work, and pray they can find the girl," Breck said, knowing that there was little chance of finding her if they didn't do it within the next 24 hours. After that, she would be...well, he preferred not to think about it.
"Let's get truckin' then," Breck said, making his way back to the Ford. |

Jack walks over towards Breck before he leaves. "Don't worry, I know how to get to Corpus. We don't have to pull a two car convoy or anything."

Nik nods to Breck and drops his cigarette to the ground to grind it out with his shoe. He picks it up and tosses it into the nearest can, then heads after the former police officer.

The group leaves the scene before any police can make their way over to question them, and before their leaving has anyone suspicious about why they were there in the first place. They aren't the only gawkers wandering around the scene talking to each other after all, people seem drawn to tragedies and want to see the police doing something about it.

Breck pulled away smoothly from the crime scene, then when he was clear, he gunned it, heading for the highway. He was careful not to break the speed limit to an excessive degree, but he did want to get there quickly. He headed for I -- 35 then started cruising down the highway at a stately pace, engaging his cruise control at 5 miles an hour over the posted limit. After what seemed an eternity he emerged onto the I -- 37 and continued on for hours, until he reached the exit for TX-123, and then finally turned onto TX-80 S in Corpus Christi. After a brief pause to consult the map once more he headed off to towards the address they had been given, then pulled up in front, scanning the place for signs of the woman before getting out.
