You both have been walking for about 4 hours, and you have finally reached the Dock wards north of the city. To your amazement, the docks area is a rich place. Normally it would be filled with travelers and sailors, but since its getting late, you kinda see that its oddly quiet. The streets seem to stretch forever as darkness looms over the city, you see some figures hugging the shadows, as if they where all running to safety. The more you make your way through you notice that not all the figures are out to seek shelters. Some seem to seek something else. as you reach a four-way you notice a man standing seemingly alone in the middle of the road. As you get closer he addresses you both.

''Well, well, well if that isn't an odd pair? Don't you know that at night, these streets belong to the Basilisk order?
Since nobody that lives in Westgate would be foolish enough to walk around at this time. I take that you are not from here... I could overlook this, but it will cost you a mere 1000 gold''

As he finishes his speech you realize that you might not be alone.(Spot check)
He steps closer to to middle of the four-way where you see more clearly what he looks like. He is a tall man with a shaved head, his faced is riddled with scares. Seems like he has seen his share of battles, you can tell that he has an armor, but can't exactly tell witch kind as he wears a weird red tabbard with a shield on it that has the effigy of a Basilisk's head.

DM's NoteOK its up to you to do what you want, you can try reasoning with him or attack. Its your choice.

"The Basilisk order? Again? What's with you guys? We just gave all our gold to one of your men about a half hour ago! He said we'd have safe passage through town. Why are you doing this to us? We ain't got no more to give. We just want to go back to the inn for the night. Your guy said we'd be safe!" Melwine

Rodel thought it best just to let the little guy try his plan. But he got his hand ready to grab for his swords hilt. He stayed quiet and

Watching from the darkness you see that the man is not alone, you can make out two figures next to an old broken down barrel. You can see that one of the two hidden teammates has a crossbow, and that upon hearing of your protests you see a small fiery flash that let's go of the the weapon's nose. A fire arrow twirls down and whispers close to the man's ear and is heading straight towards Melwine. (Reflex save, Huhart)

''Fools!!! do you think you can parlay with the great Basilisk Order?''

Says the tall man drawing his blade, in a swift dash he rushes at Rodel hoping that his two other comrades can take care of the halfling.

DM's NoteOK initiative roll for all of you. also since this is the first combat I wish to say you don't need to worry about positions. It will be visible because I will use maps with color spots to say where all of you are.

Melwine realizes too late that there is no use talking to these fools. He tries to dodge the oncoming fire arrow while looking for a good place to take cover. He pulls out his trustly sling and gets ready to cast a spell to better his aim.

Spotting the two other Balisisk Order members hand blurred as they went from his greatsword. The sword caught the last rays of the sun and seemed to glow as he unsheathed it. Rodel had been going to go for the crossbowman but with the scared man rushing him he had no choice but to deal with him first. Sword in hands Rodel perpaired to channel a spell into it. He hoped the little guy could hold his own for a while.

The arrow lands into Melwine's shoulder, sending him spinning before he hits the ground. You feel your shoulder numbing, and you slowly paralyze... All three of the grunts now surround a lonely Rodel now that he is left alone to face his three adversaries. Unexpectedly the three men do not attack Rodel as he see's a 4rth figure appearing behind the Tall bald man.

''Wow,'' he says ''How many did Melera actually send? You know it wouldn't hurt to be a little more stealthy next time, that way it would harder to catch you.''

This man is a little smaller then the bald grunt, but he is still very imposing, he wears a shiny red armor. the armor itself is a beauty as it is adorned with jewels and various medals. You recognize the style or armor all too well. It is the armor of a samurai warrior...

''Lady Melera should be wary of spies, they are such vermin don't you think? So hard to get ride of. Now, you will be smart won't you? You and your little friends are my prisoners now.''

DM's NoteOk FlyingGreenMonkey what do you decide? do you wish to surrender or attack? your initiative is already accounted for, if you decide to fight I will roll initiative for these guys too. Huhart you may still RP since you are only paralyzed and not unconscious. Sorry boys you kinda got a story driven encounter here

Rodel eyes shifted from one figure to the next as they shifted to the samuri his eyebrows furrowed. He shifted his gaze to Melwine laying on the ground and sighed, "One on one, easy. Two on one, plausible. Three on one crazy. Four on one suicidal and as I told Melera I don't do suicidal." Tension draining from Rodel he sheathed his sword. He felt confident that they weren't going to die. Prisoners were no good alive but why would they need them as prisoners? No choice but to wait and see.

Melwine was angry at being immobilizes so easily. His shoulder hurt where he fell on it. He had an annying itch at the small of his back. But, he neither looked angry or rubbed his shoulder or scratched his back. Instead, he lay perfectly still and listened to a man taunt them for their foolishness. Rodel wisely surrendered, probably realizing that their captors didn't intend on killing them....yet.

Side Story 23-B: The Basilisk Order

You are both knocked out. When you wake up you are in a cell, looking around you you see that its pretty much just a safe-house. Grayish walls layer out the house with simple wooden floors, from what you can see it looks large enough as it seems to contain many rooms. The cell you are in looks fairly new as if it was newly placed here. From what you can see around you it seems that this safe-house was in fact an ancient warehouse converted. From what you can tell there are no guards stationed around right now, but you do see two other adventurers that seem to have fallen to the same predicament as you. One is a tall Human from what you can tell he is definitely a warrior with his tall an stoic appearance. The other in a frail old wizard, you do not know what this man is doing here as he looks so weak, but by really looking at the man you see there's a strange aura about him.

The two man look at you two smiling, like they knew why you where here or something.

The old man speaks first: ''Well, well look Brezcar it seems we have visitors, looks like Lady Melera has sent a couple more adventurers after us. She probably doesn't realize it doesn't matter, as long as the men spying on her isn't caught, more of us will be stopped and thrown to the Basilisk ritual.'' The old man grins then continues ''you see im so nice that ill just fill you in without asking since we are in the same predicament. You see the house of Ssemm often use other organization since the end of the war that way, they are not directly in the conflict thus keep their end of the treaty for no open war within Waterdeep. Elas my friends unless we find a way to work together we will merely be killed in a crazy ritual. Creative way to get rid of us don't you think?''

DM's NoteYou are weaponless, but they didn't strip you guys so you still have your amor. No more shields for you guys that had any

"So you are saying that Lady Melera is being set up by Ssemm to provide victims for some ritual involving a basilisk?" Melwine tried to get a handle on the situation. "And you both seem pretty happy to be here. Please forgive me if I don't share in your mirth."

The halfling takes a look around the room and at the door. There seemed to be no guard around, but that didn't mean there wasn't one close by. Trying to break down the door was a bad idea. Was it locked with a key or simply latched from outside? "Any ideas on how to get this door open without being discovered?"

''Before we attempt anything'' I will introduce myself Says the old wizard. ''My Name is Elistar the great, and it seems you have arrived at a great time. You see I have been restoring my magic since I used most of my spells beforehand trying to avoid capture. These idiots have forgotten to put any sort of magical suppression device, Now that there is four of us maybe we will stand a chance.'' The old wizard scans the area and points out to a door next to the stairs. '' This is were our weapons are stashed, we need to get there as soon as I blast open the cell. In order to facilitate our endeavor I will shatter the wall behind me so we can make a run for it and arm ourselves as quickly as possible. what do you young lad think? is this a plan to your liking?''

DM's noteI will let you guys reply before we start this. also to make sure its clarified the wizard is pointing towards room 10 on the map.

When they shatter the wall, I will make myself invisible and try to slow down the guards while you go for the weapons, Melwine tells Rodel. Have you got any tricks up you sleeve?

Rodel smiles at Melwine. "Oh I have a trick or two." He turned to Elistar, "give us a count down my good wizard." Rodel moved away from the wall and started to prepare himself for the dash to the weapons.

The wizard focuses his energy and raises his palm facing the side of the cell. Brilliant white energy flows from his hand and crashes on the side of the bars, making them snap like simple twigs. Upon the destruction of the cell the hulking warrior Brezcar goes first in order to defend to wizard.

''Hurry my friends, we will have company soon'' says Elistar before rushing behind the Brezcar.

DM's notePlease include how you move in you next post, I treat this part like you already are in an encounter.
