This is what I was thinking, simply: A changeling artificer on the path to become a self-forged. I was thinking that she has little to no control over her shape changing power (would have to come up with a randomness generator with every change) and it slowly eats away at her until eventually she decides she's just going to maintain a permanent shape - that of a warforged. To that end, I'd play her as a bit eccentric, if not outright crazy, but fun - for me at least.

Sure, you can even edit it into the post yourself.
I mean, I guess... I don't know what the rules are of Theme Song. Last edited by Nocturnal; 07-27-2011 at 04:40 PM. |

The rules of Theme Song are: Don't sing about your Theme Song. But it's okay to sing your actual Theme Song. Especially while at Fight Club.

Name: Briar Wildpaw
__________________Race: Razorclaw Shifter Class: Druid (Primal Guardian) Level: 4 Age: 27 Height: 57" Weight: 140 lbs. Fur Color: Café Latte Eye color: Green Hair color: Dark brown Appearance: Briar is average height for her race with an athletic build - she takes pride in being fit and ready for action when it comes upon her. Favoring the use of animal skins for her clothing so nothing goes to waste, she often wears fur-lined anklets and bracers, and the barest cover possibly allowed by most races for decency's sake. In colder weather she wears appropriate leathers and hide but always prefers clothing that fits well and allows her to move while also communicating her office as a druid. Many of her leather pieces have shifter art representing some aspect of nature - waves and trees are among her favorites. He body is covered in tan fur, her tribe having kept much of their feline heritage. Along these lines she has retained a broad, flat, feline nose, green eyes with extended, cat-like pupils, elongated canines, and slightly pointed ears. To the outside observer she might appear quite feral, but she usually keeps herself clean and well groomed. And she carries herself in anything but a feral posture. Because she seeks balance, she favors a hooded cloak or cape to keep her face and skin hidden from sight. She does not feel the need to draw undue attention to herself - she is a shifter and people WILL find that out eventually, but she would rather it be on an individual basis than having a whole city block alerted to her presence. She also keep her toe and finger claws clean and short, though sharp. Her finger claws are a bit longer than her toes. She carries herself upright most of the time and walks with smooth, fluid movement; her actions sure and decisive. When scouting, hunting, or acting as a guide, she will occasionally drop to all fours to track prey and even to run. She enjoys the time she spends in her beast forms, but prefers the sense of unity she has with nature's other aspects so remains upright in cities and towns. She carries a long quarterstaff adorned with feathers, small bones, colorful rocks, and teeth along with her totem implement hanging from a leather thong hanging a bit lower down from the top. Her totem is an intricately carved tree in full leaf representing the power it bestows. Background: Briar's older brother Thorn was kidnapped during a raid before she was born. Thorn had held great hope for her tribe and his loss dimished her family greatly. No longer in favor with other shifters, her tribe retreated to the wilds. They made the long trek to an area known as The Vale some days' travel from the city of Loulan. She grew up on stories of her lost brother and the night he was taken. Her father would often get misty in his recounting the tale, and though he loved his daughter, he missed his son greatly. Something within her knew that her purpose may very well be to reunite her brother with his lost tribe...if he still lived. She resisted dashing off to find him as soon as she was of age; for she felt another calling just as deeply - to protect the world and those living in the land. Whether it was the powerful call of her ancient ancestry or a calling from the earth itself, she found herself able to control her form and summon nature to her aid. Her parents presented her to the elders - the moonwalkers - showed them this new gift and began training in the path of a druid. She found herself more interested in the partnership with plants, lightning, and thunder than spending time in other beast forms. And when the tribe would hunt, she found ways to call to the plants to aid the hunt by directing their quarry or trapping it entirely. "But you must never forsake one path of the druid for another," Mother Proudmane had told her. "Our path is one of balance, child. Prefer to walk the world as you normally do, that is fine, but dip into the beast from time to time. But be careful, neither forsake the beast nor give in completely to it." Before she turned 18, strange rumors had surfaced of odd creations that other races were using. Intendingto make life easier for themselves, the end result was often damage to the flora and fauna. "Expansion...bah," her father would say over dinner. "Progress? What do these races need with more inventions and more land? Better ways of killing the rest of us if you ask me!" Her mother would just tell him to hush and stop sounding like a grouchy old bear. Briar didn't know if her father was being extreme or if there was some truth to his words. Her tribe of shifters had never trusted outsiders overmuch, but she found it hard to believe that such interesting beings would willingly defile the lands where they lived. Didn't they see the benefit of the trees? The beauty of the landscape? Surely they could not be ALL bad. So she consulted again with the elders and received their blessing to continue her training on the road - to seek out ways to protect the land and its inhabitants and learn as much as she could of the world. Two days from home she encountered a self-propelled merchant wagon. Some new kind of horseless contraption able to propel itself! Laden with metal goods and what Briar guessed was raw ore, it was under siege from gnolls...well-known defilers of the land themselves. If they had only been looting the cart, she might have left well enough alone but they had a small fellow surrounded and they did not look interested in purchasing his goods. She stepped in to aid the little man with the technological marvel using all of the abilities at her disposal. She leapt into the fray in the form of a great jaguar, raking some of the gnolls with her claws. She transformed back into her normal form and called the vines of the earth forward to bind a gnoll dressed in shamanistic gear frantically digging through its pack so it could not cast any harmful spells then and called down thunder on them all. Those not fried by lightning ran for the hills leaving her breathless, but alive and the little man no worse for wear. The little man (a gnome now that she had a chance to think) doffed his hat and bowed low in introduction. "I am Kristoff J. Gubblebum, my dear, but you can call me Kris. It seems I owe a debt of gratitude." He thanked her profusely in a quick, high-pitched, jabbering speech punctuated by several tangents about how he got there, where he was headed, and boasts about his skills as a tinkerer and inventor. When he took a break from his tangential introduction, he pulled a hip flask out, took a quick swallow and looked at Briar with a gleam in his eyes. "I can see you are no usual person walking this road! I happen to be heading to Loulan and I know they won't let you in without a sponsor. What say you ride with me to the city. It'll get you past the guards, access to the city, and dinner's on me! Besides - you can see how ol' Misery here handles passengers." And he patted the horse-less wagon with a smile. As they rode, Kris told her about mining operations, lumber harvesting, and the attacks he suffered from the gnolls. She listened attentively with a wry smile on her face. It would not do to lecture her host on his use of the natural surroundings...especially when he barely stopped talking to breathe! But he was a friendly enough fellow so listened with rapt attention. When they approached the gate, Kristoff J. Gubblebum explained how she had saved him from the gnolls and offered to do whatever necessary to ensure she was welcome in the city. The guards explained that the Minutemen were looking for people with experience and that she might consider teaming up with anyone heading out in the morning, but that it would be too late to find them that night. Kristoff nodded satisfactorily, made good on his offer of dinner and a small tour then told her where she could find him in the city if she needed a friendly face and bid her farewell. Personality: Briar loves nature and her strongest desire is to protect it and those that live in harmony with it. But she does not go so far as to proclaim cities as evil abominations. She is curious and interested in learning - she wants to form a balanced opinion before she makes her decision. And so it is with everything with her - she makes some decisions slowly but when she does they are well thought out. She is not boisterous or loud, but has a pleasant sense of humor. While she tends to focus on the tasks at hand, she can't help but smile at the antics of others and appreciate the differences of those with whom she travels. As a shifter myself, yay for us. One thing I want to point out is we are persecuted in this city and you should probably mention how you got past the guards at the gate. They don't just let us in (usually) without a sponsor. Since you are a hero, that might do it, but hitching a ride with the vertically challenged fellow would fit the bill too.

Ashkal makes a good point. If you helped to rescue a merchant you might have gotten some letter of recommendation from him that would help you enter the city, but unlike Wind you'd need to have gotten papers at the gate describing why she's in town, unless you want to always be accompanied by a member of a more common race... Better to accompany him all the way to the gate so that he could personally tell of your hero status. Shifters don't really look that obviously different from hairy humans, so people might not know what you are and you won't always get stopped, but the gate guards I suppose would be suspicious enough to ask your purpose and give you the papers. All PCs are literate by default - it's up to you (anyone with a Primal background) whether you want to be able to read your identification and signs or not.
__________________The gate is only open during the day, so you can claim to have already been in the city and spent the whole day marveling, but you won't make it to the tavern in time to be part of that meeting. If the purpose you (or your sponsor) gave to the gate guards was "to help fight the gnolls" then you can go to the Minutemen headquarters and meet the others there in the next game day, or even outside town. An automated, horseless carriage? Moving under its own volition as if driven by some magical power? What would you call such an absurd device - an auto-mobile? What a preposterous contraption! Impossible! ![]() "...her tribe retreated to the wilds near the city of Loulan..." This means that they now live on the steppe, not in the hills? That's fine. Hmm... I don't know about this... All those controller powers that limit movement will really give me a harder time making enemies escape, surround, and flank you. And a ritual that helps you navigate, and another that helps you travel stealthily? I'm afraid these abilities could make life a little easier for the party. Well I mean, bad for whom?
For the evil DM in me and for your foes it's not great. ![]() Could you give us a little more detail on what Briar looks like, Angry Panda? You don't have to put it in the description; it can be in your first in-game post but I'd need to know how obvious it is that she's not human and it would help others imagine your character. I gathered Wind is a little more bestial than most, and I made a mistake with imagining Paisley's figure before. Note that the climate of the area where the game begins is fairly hot in daytime, so wearing a heavy cloak around during the day may be uncomfortable and unusual. |

yes, except for someone like Wind who would look even more unusual without it.

I will confess that the image of the character Dusk from the Player's Strategy Guide was what I conceived in my head for Briar. I'm attaching the image from the here, but I'll also include it with my physical description/Background updates (mentioned below).
Is there a thread that includes all of the information on this game, Noc? Like one that summarizes the time keeping method, the world premise, etc.? Since I came in a bit late, everything seems to be scattered and I'm a tad concerned I'm missing something. ![]() Her character sheet is also updated and I would appreciate any pointers on the items I chose. I don't know how to force the character builder to grant the "Everything Expertise" feat as a free feat or even simulate that...any ideas? Quote:

I'm having a hard time deciding where she should be from. The Vale sounds more like where I imagined her tribe living - densely wooded, rich in plant and animal life. If there are mountains/steppes/hills that match that description near Loulan, awesome. If not, then I can fit her into anything. ![]() Quote:
I'm actually EXTREMELY pleased to read this. When you told me that the party needed a controller, I went through the list of Controllers in the generator and started to build a beastial druid but it just didn't fit with what I had in mind. I played with a Psion but that wasn't matching what I envisioned either. Someone that could deal with large groups and ultimately aid the party and provide useful support is my driving motivation. ![]() Quote:
![]() I would submit that if she's familiar with her surroundings she would likely choose a cape/cloak made of a lightweight material or even plant fibers - something that isn't going to look awkward or be uncomfortable. |
