Don't worry about fudging the combat mechanics. I'm far more interested in the role play and combat in play by post is clunky at best. Don't let the game get bogged down by adhering to the rules.

All I've been saying is it would be terrifying and awesome to find a nice pretty butterfly only to have it suddenly open its tiny insectoid mouth, let loose a tiny bellow and shoot out a thirty foot cone of flames.

Hey all, looks like I'm the only one who has not posted on the character thread. Sorry for the delay! I've been held up at work the past couple of days and able to go thoroughly through the books. My character is finished, I just need to buy equipment... I'll have it all posted tomorrow.

I've got a busy work schedule but I can almost always post, it's just tough for me to find time to sit down and go through the books. Once the game starts and my character is finished I do not anticipate causing any delays in game play.

I always prefer finding my magic stuff in game, so I just put all of my money into a shocking great sword. Then there's a composite longbow, and a set of full plate. Other than that there's all of the little things, ink, pen, paper, map case, flasks, mirror, rope, candles, chalk, a pot. I love having little things on hand and I'm always trying to find uses for them.
After that I've still got like 2000 gp left over. I figure Drake likes to always have a small fortune on him. With Arcane's permission I'll probably turn more than a little of that wealth into some valuable gems.

I think Drake will also have a hireling. Someone who can get him in and out of his full plate. Maybe a bit of a fisherman, hunter and cook too, someone who can please Drake's finicky tastes when camping away from the city.

I'll have to come up with some background for him/her. With Arcane's help and permission of course. Whoever it is, he'll have to have some reason for working with Drake. Drake would be kind of hard to work for, even for good pay.

To be honest, I have about 300 GP to myself to buy mundane gear. Though I don't know if Arcane is going to make us purchase that material or it will be provided to us.

As per manuevers : IRON HEART ALL DA WAY!

Honestly, I am not going to look at th mundane gear much either way. If you wanna spend the gold or not... Meh. haha

Code: I am ok with the hireling, but they are going to want compensation for their work or course. Hes not a slave by any means. He is going to be a commoner than levels at half of everyone elses rate. Ill handle the mechanical details you just come up with some background. Unless you want help for that too, then thats cool. Converting gold to gems is also fine for carrying convenience and flavor.

In the meantime, I am starting to get a bit slammed by work. But soon I will have the story thread ready to go!

I'll go ahead and buy mundane items as well as conversion gems... Half the fun as far as I'm concerned!

Just a quick question for our all-mighty DM, just to make sure I've got the AC varients down. I've acutally used this system in another game and I liked it a lot.

So for this game, Connor's chain shirt would 2/- DR, but we are not giving any armor bonus, right? (so void the first column in the varient chart)

How are we handling magic armor, like say +2?

sorry in advance if you aready answered this somewhere!

Magic armor in that sense is completely useless.

@ cancer - well that certainly simplifies that!

So just DR from armor makes sense to me. But we are still using the class based defense bonus, right? If so, since Connor is multiclass he uses the highest of the two classes, which is +7 as a fighter...

Then add dex bonus to that class based defense bonus to get total AC... Correct?

Don't worry Arcane, I know I have to pay him.
See, I need help to get into the plate armor, and while that isn't a problem once the party is together but I was thinking, Drake would already need someone with him now.
But, I think I've decided against that. Now I'm thinking that he's not really the sort of person who would like to rely on someone else to help him into his armor. I don't know, maybe I'm over thinking this.
I think I'm going to scale back the armor for now.

@ Code H : Pick up the Calling enhancement if you can afford it. +2000 to the price, MiC (Magic Item Compendium.)

This lets you "call" your armor to you, thus negating the need to have someone put it on or off. Kind of like a Mecha transformation when the Magical Girl summons her armor.

@Tpasq98 : Yes, you add your dex, as is normal in DnD. This armor bonus just applies to how well we can avoid attacks.
