Hm, I'd like to hear your reasoning. (I'm also not answering, because a a yes or a no would be equally revealing to the plot!)

The Magician
Porthos the Great is, suposedly, a real magician. Magic is certainly existent, as proven by the existence of the Fey Court and the Trolls, but everyone knows that humans (and all the various experiments produced from humans) can't work with the magic. There is certainly an entertainment factor with those that pretend to be actual practicioners, but everyone knows that it's all for show. Except for Porthos. He has performed amazing feats, beyond what anyone thinks clockwork is currently capable, and has been vetted by multiple "professional skeptics". No one can figure out how he does whathe does, if it isn't magic. Most accept that he's actually got a gift.

So, presumably, Porthos is the only one known to be able to wield magic (Or something that's a hell of a lot like it) and that would explain the freezing temperature around them, the booming voice, and the obscured form. They're all things that could be done with magic. While it is likely that the same could be achieved by clockwork, it seems to me that most wouldn't use such things, simply to produce a frightening or enigmatic appearance. Indeed, the way the groups mysterious benefactor presented himself gave off the impression of flamboyancy. He can do those things, and wants everyone to know it, as well as being able to do it at a whim.

At the same time, Porthos is obviously an important -and therefore most likely wealthy- character. He wouldn't become that well known without airing his skills and ability. Who knows what contacts he has, and what strings he can pull.

Then there's the fact that our benefactor doesn't seem to lean towards Zane or Siobhan (I just kind of get that feeling from him) and that means he either doesn't care, or intends to take them on both. So if it's not Zane or Siobhan we're working for, that leaves only Porthos, or possibly the Imperial Guard. (Who seem far less likely)

Hmm, interesting thoughts. I had envisioned Porthos as above the political scheming, which makes me hesitant to think that he would be employing us to be working within this system. But who's to say that any of our actions have any political ramifications? I guess I also struggle to see how Porthos would have the ability to offer amnesty. Protection, yes, but not legal amnesty.

On a side note, when I first read through a lot of the background, I had a question in my mind of whether or not Porthos could be a troll. Since trolls vary so vastly in appearance, it seemed possible that one could masquerade as a human, seeming to do what no other human could.

In other news, I had a dream Last night/today. (I kind of slept the whole day away: 21 hrs of sleep) It was about this game... I can't remember all of it, but I do remember Elm and Spork breaking into a government safehouse/vault, putting some weird, volatile item that was deemed to dangerous to let anyone get there hands on, in the vault and then promptly stealing everything shiny. This includes, but was not limited to, dangerous explosives, guns, weird suits (I can't quit recall what they were supposed to do) and the kitchen sink. (The actual sink) Oh, and then Elm blew a hole in the wall to create a distraction for Spork to get away.

I seem to find myself in a conundrum. It has come to my attention, that I am currently unable to RP Elm. At least, not without making him out-of-character. I'm not giving up on the game or anything, not at all, nor am I giving up on Elm...I just seem to have lost the ability to get in character for Elm.

I really don't want to give up on the character either, as Elm is one I greatly enjoy playing as. At the same time, I also feel that having to explain his sudden disappearance would bog down the story, at least this early in the game. (In game, it still hasn't even been a full day, IIRC) For now, my only hope is that it's simply a kind of writer's block. That my creative juices in regards to Elm need to replenish themselves. Luckily, we're now at a weekend, but I have no idea when I would be able to get back In character, but if by next Tuesday I am still incapable of doing so, I'll simply have to force it for a bit.

Until then, if anyone feels like thy can RP Elm, go for it. Otherwise, he'll simply be hiding under Kimi's hood. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I simply feel unable to post until I can fix this.

I hope everything's ok Proudboar. I really like the character of Elmgrave, and I imagine it's hard to play such an upbeat and spontaneous character when you're not feeling so yourself. I'm praying that things pick back up for you.
