That works as well.

addendum to my IC plan: If one of you has a high enough bluff/diplomacy (DFA invocation user I'm looking at you) we could conceivably fast talk our way to the guy and have me charm him.

The issue with that is, rushing it puts a -10 penalty on the check and still takes one minute. That is one minute too long for me if we are trying to get in and out.
__________________I can however, take ten on both diplomacy and bluff as a standard action without any penalty. I can score a 23 for both diplomacy and bluff if I take ten with my vestige. I would also have access to disguise self so I can pretend to be one of the thugs and suggestion, meaning that if your charm person doesn't work, we have a "lighter" version. |

We don't necessarily have to smash and grab, a 10 minute in and out is still rather quick for a kidnapping. I'd actually prefer to talk our way in and have a back up of sleeping them rather than vice versa, as I'm sure that's a big penalty of having tried to cast a spell at them.
Another alternative would be smokesticks to fake a fire and grab the dude on his way out. |

I've posted my two cents in the actual game thread by way of Astrid's points. I think if aivanther and dragune dress as thugs and talk their way in while the rest of us distract/incapacitate guards, you can be in and out in two minutes, tops. Also, ten minutes for a kidnapping? That's an eternity. To put that in perspective, modern emergency responses (in my town anyway) are 3 minutes. No reasonable distraction would keep them occupied for 10 minutes, and by the time you did get out, we'd have half the city guard on us.
__________________I like the fire idea, but I also dislike the fact that the guard will show up, and possibly hinder our getaway. Plus, I have faith in the pretty boy and the illusion master, even if Astrid doesn't :P |

I currently have a +12 Diplomacy and a +14 Bluff. I could fairly reliably talk my way into and out of things, but if you can do it without taking a rushed penalty, then you're definitely the first choice.
and I agree, We might be able to distract them for a couple minutes safely, but anything longer then that will likely require alternate means of keeping them occupied, poison at least, hitting them over the head with a blackjack hopefully at most. Is there a system in place for physically knocking someone out? What is Astrid's Intimidate score? |

What I meant was that if we're bluffing our way in, it's not the length of time that matters so much as the delicacy. If we're going to smash and grab, 2 minutes is 1.5 minutes to long. If we're going to weedle our way in, we can afford to take our time up to a point.

Indeed, but considering the number of people we'd have to treat delicately it might take too long. If just one or two people went in with high Diplomacy and talked their way in and out it might only take 45 minutes or so, assuming they didn't rush. How quickly can you put people to sleep? Generally magic users have a limit on times per day, so if you're the only one throwing around sleep spells then it might get kinda taxing.

+7, not to mention the bit where she is female and they are (probably) male. She is almost certainly not going to be talking her way in (diplomacy is not a wilder skill), so that leaves her on the "keeping guards occupied" front.

OK well I have +12 at the moment, so we could always just scare them into helping us at the cost of them being hostile next time we encounter them. Perhaps even disguising ourselves so their hostility is confused.

Just curious, but is Donald intentionally playing off Astrid's little schoolboy dig like it's no big deal, or did it just go sailing over his head? I'm fairly convinced in favor of the former and just being an egomaniac of monumental proportions, but you never know, he might have an INT of like 4 or something and wouldn't recognize an insult any more subtle than "You're ugly!"

Just so everyone knows before we get to the point of actively rolling Diplomacy checks:
__________________- Depending on what your character does and says, a penalty or bonus will be levied against the rolls similar to the bonuses and penalties associated with Bluff. - Also : Wow, you guys are really thrashing this out. A good start to the game! |

Thanks. Also, I have a question. Since Astrid is just going to be using the disguise kit to just accentuate her looks, not change them, will this count as a use for the kit? Most of the rest of her "getting made up" will be doing things like using pins to tighten her pants, swapping the order of armor and shirt so she can tie the shirt up and show off her midriff and cleavage while wearing her armor top like a vest, things of that nature.

Disguise is always an option. +15 on Donald and a disguise for those who need that extra oomph.
__________________BTW - I don't want to seem like I, dragune, am a massive egomaniac and hate everyone else in the game. That's Donald, not me. EDIT:No, he's playing it off like it's no big thing. In my mind it was a slight call to how some people have a fetishist attraction to the "schoolgirl." Last edited by dragune185; 01-23-2012 at 01:57 AM. |
