The creature's rubbery arms move faster than any of the group can react. Lyotah does not even have time to step aside as the length of polished oak swings downwards, cracking down on her left shoulder with vicious force. She feels something snap under the blow, but the arm is still usable, though painful. As the thing steps forward to follow up on it’s advantage, Kalib’s ball punches right through one of those ropey arms. The monster’s three tongues stiffen in pain and it steps back. Lyotah gets a slash and a jab off at it, but the pain in her shoulder hinders her and the creature manages to eel around the blows. It makes a slurping sound that cuts off abruptly as Long’s foreign blade cuts deep through where it’s stomach ought to be. A mass of something like thick, black-veined mucus oozes out, dangling grossly from the wound. Possibly this is of so much academic interest to Katrina that she is unable to focus on her shot. The crossbow bolt she fires hits the wall and sticks there like a coat hook, quivering slightly.
__________________“Now that’s a mess you can make in my kitchen and welcome!” Walthus shouts, his tone a little spiteful. He seems to bear a grudge towards any fellow of the thing that nearly killed him and one can't exactly blame him. The weakened halfling has backed into the corner and has his chair lifted up in front of him, ready to fend off the thing if it comes his way. His arms are shaking, but he looks determined. Tongues dangling limply now, the creature swings it’s quarterstaff with less speed. Long is able to move so that the blow glances off the metal plates sewn into his strange, long coat. |

Lyotah hisses through her teeth at the lingering pain in her shoulder. Drawing her left arm back, she holds her Klar in a defensive position and brings her spear in low, lunging upwards and hoping to get past its guard from below to pierce its chest.

As he deflects the claw on his metal plates, Long continues moving in a fluid motion, giving the creature another vicious slice between its ribs. He then takes a step so that he is between the creature and the door, seeing to it that it cannot avoid becoming surrounded.

And Kalib? Well, Kalib responds to the decent shot he made by starting to reload the weapon. He really needs to figure out a way to streamline this process.

The creature steps back from Lyotah's jab, but right into Long's blade. This second cut nearly severs the thing in two, then reaches up to snick off just the very edge of a tongue as Long swings the blade up and away in a guard position. Anything normal would be unable to move, but this creature keeps going. It makes a dart as if for the door, but the Minkaian swordsman is blocking it's way. It jabs one end of the quarterstaff towards Long's stomach, but Long's katana snaps downwards, knocking the staff aside.

Lyotah quickly takes advantage of the thing's turning away from her, stepping into position opposite Long and driving her spear into the thing's upper back, slightly off the center to avoid whatever it might have for a spine.

Lyotah feels no such resistance as a spine would give to the point of her spear and the thing collapses, oozing everywhere, the stench making the kitchen a place that no one is likely to want to eat in for a long time. Possibly the best way to start the clean up process, in fact, would be a match. Bits of the monster twitch a few times but after a couple of seconds it gives up on even that poor semblance of life and goes still. The quarterstaff falls from the thing's nerveless fingers and rolls across the floor until it bumps into a table leg. Walthus sets his chair down, sits in it, and regards his kitchen with a broad, cheerful smile on his face. His three snakes are all peeking out of his collar and you'd swear that despite lacking facial features, all three of them are smiling too.

![]() It seemed like the Goblins had been making things difficult for Sandpoint for some time now. That’s how the “ear bounty” started in the first place. Now it seems Koya wanted Aiko to travel towards Walthus' house, but it was not that safe to go alone. There was another group on the way there as well, but they had left Sandpoint earlier. Aiko had seen Zorensi around, and when Koya found out that he too was headed out, she instructed Aiko to travel with him. They met in front of the Red Dragon and were ready to depart. Aiko saw Zorensi heading towards her, his black hair blowing lightly in the breeze. He was shorter than Aiko, but not by much, and while not handsome, he was easy on the eyes. “Hello Zorensi, good to see you again." Aiko said with a polite smile. Soon they were on the way into the swamp. Zorensi knew at least one of the group we were to meet, so he took the lead with Aiko close behind. She carried her Crossbow at the ready for the swamp was not the safest of places to be. “How much farther until we find them, Zorensi?” Aiko asked. |

"Yes, that tipped off this one, too," Long agrees with Walthus, sheathing his katana. He then picks up the dropped quarterstaff, examining it as he sits down at the table. "Are you well, Lyotah? Being struck by this could not have been comfortable."

Lyotah pulls her spear out of the thing's back, and sets down her Klar to clean off the blade, wincing as she moves her left arm. Nodding to Long's question, she says "It hurts, if that's answer enough. I can move my arm, but I think it may have cracked my collarbone."

Zorensi gives Aiko an absent wave in greeting. He was busy berating himself for overthinking the problem again. He had known that goblins were causing trouble for caravans, but had been searching for a way to protect the wagons rather than simply destroying the tribes causing trouble. It really was a much more elegant solution to the problem.
Aiko's greeting jars him from his thoughts and prompts him to check the wrist sheath with his dagger. "It's been too long," he replies as they set out into the swamp. Zorensi picks his way carefully along the trail, grateful and a little apprehensive thatthey haven't encountered any aggression yet. "Not . . .too much further," he says, low on breath. "Walthus' hous is close. If they're smart, they saw him before pushing further into the swamp and he can point us in the right direction. If they aren't, Walthus knows this swamp better than anyone. We might be able to talk him into asking the animals or . . . trees or whatever where they are." "Ah, see?" He points ahead to the hut in the distance. "There we are. Not a moment too soon, either. I could use a short rest." |

"I'm willing to wait then, until you all get healed up." Kalib replies, thinking of his own survival. And how the chances go down without meaty, fleshy, bigger shields to protect him.

"You're welcome to stay in my home for as long as you like." Walthus offers after only a little hesitation. "Got enough food stored away for us all to eat decent for a couple of days, even. Don't think as that nasty thing would've touched it. Didn't seem like he was much of one for eating anything but me." He adds after a moment. "Probably won't want to stay -too- long. You've got them goblins to deal with." He isn't quite successful at keeping the hope out of his voice. Grateful he may be, but the hermit still has trouble with the idea of long term houseguests.

![]() Aiko responded to Zorensi’s comment happily. “Good, my feet hurt and I am quite ready for a rest and a meal.” She says. As they walk she is looking out for the house they are supposed to find. “You sure you are not lost?” She asks Zorensi. |
