"It might," Kelly giggled a little. She was starting to feel better. This lady was kind of like a cool aunt. Kelly wasn't sure how good the advice was, but it was better than nothing. And that was exactly what she had. Nothing. She let the words sink in for a minute and then looked at the female agent asking rhetorically, "So what you are saying is I should use my girlish charm to get him to do what I want him to do and if he doesn't I should put a skunk in his room?" She nodded at the agent, wiping her eyes one last time, and stood up feeling the sudden need to test this theory, "Thank you Miss. I think I understand now." Kelly began walking off trying to remember which side of the house was the wing the Hartman's were in.

Arianna blinked. "Did I just tell her to go hunt down a skunk?"

Luked narrowed his eyes at the female agent, having a bad vibe about the next few seconds. "Yes, yes you did. Leave me out of it, I'm not chasing that kid chasing a sk--"

"Not it!" snapped the response from various places of the house, followed by Luke's "What? Not--! Dang it!" He fiddled with his mic for a moment as Arianna laughed at him from the couch. Replacing it in his ear before asking the unseen choreographer of the agents, "How come Arianna doesn't have to follow the kid? She's the one that suggested it!"

Bruce answered back, with a growl clear in his voice. "Yes, well, Karma's a bitch. You drew the short straw. Maybe you'll get lucky and pull duty on his sister tomorrow. I hear that she kicks people in the bejeezus when she's po'd. Would you rather follow her instead?"

Luke groaned silently. "No..." The young agent hadn't been entirely filled in on that situation, and he had his hands full with pre-teens already. Full-blown teenagers could be worse, like having to sit through high school all over again. He had a background in the Navy Seals, but if he ever saw Marianna again, he'd stammer like the tongue-tied nerd he used to be.

Kelly strutted up the stairs to where the bedrooms of the Hartman family were. If she was to put a skunk in a room, she was going to have to know which one was Matt's. The layout of this side of the house wasn't much different than it was in the part she was living in. Sure the decor was a little different, but it still fit with the overall feel of the place. If anything Kelly could see herself getting used to this kind of lifestyle. Especially if they got some servants. Maybe she would make Matt her servant. That would teach him. The idea brought a wicked smile to her face as all the ways she could torture him raced through her mind.

"Where to start?" She huffed flailing her her arms down to her sides. With a goofy frown she walked over and opened up a door at random to see if she could figure out who was using which rooms.

The first room Kelly opened was a linen closet. In front of Kelly's face sat large, fluffy towels in various shades of blue neatly on the shelf, looking as if they had been untouched for several months. Below sat washclothes of the same hues, matching the rows of towels above them in rows going down. Above the bath towels were several blank shelves.

Kelly looked like she had just eaten something horrible. "A linen closet? Really?" She snarked. She slammed the door and stared down the hall stomping her feet in place a couple times. Kelly bit her lip and furrowed her brow. She was now more determined than ever to one up that other kid just for making her go through all this work. Kelly cleared her throat and pursed her lips. She walked down the hall and put on a smile as she came to the next door. This time she would not be surprised. At least that was what she tried to tell herself.

The other two doors on this side of the hallway were left open. Peering into them, Kelly found two bedrooms as equally sterile and personality-less as hotel rooms, decorated in a cream and blue palette. The would-have-been resort rooms were made exactly like the Kane's wing; featuring a queen-sized bed in each room, a small kitchenette between bed and bathroom in lieu of the usual makeup counter and mirror, and the bathroom that contained sink, toilet, and a two person jacuzzi next to the full shower. On the far side of the room was a walk-out balcony, that in this early spring weather, did not contain the table and chairs that would have stood there.

The bedrooms on the other side of the hall were closed, as was the door at the far end of the hall. Six doors in total, and it was easy to guess that the Hartman adults may have put their sons in separate rooms from themselves and each other. Soft sounds came from the closed door across and to the left of the empty bedroom Kelly stood in front of. The middle room was quiet as a churchmouse, but the door at the far end was too far away from her to determine sounds. The lush pale blue carpet she stood on may have been deadening the noise, a plus when dealing with teenage boys.

The house was huge and in a different scenario would have been amazing. Or very scary if ghosts were to start popping up. Kelly shook the idea from her head. She had other things on her mind. Mostly to find her way back to the top of the social pyramid that the Hartman kid pushed her off of. Well, maybe it wasn't so much of a pyramid as it was a short step ladder given that there were only three people under the age of thirty in the mansion. Not counting the men in black that was. And there was no way the little ninja turtle was ever going to be anywhere other than the bottom. No matter how cute he acted sometimes. No, this was a power struggle between herself and Matt. One of them had to be the Alpha and Kelly was not about to let Matt be it.

Kelly could hear some small noises coming from behind the door across and to the left. She wasn't sure if she would find Matt in it or someone else, but she was ready to use whoever she found to her advantage. At least that's what she told herself. The truth was she was getting more and more nervous by the minute and the thought of abandoning her plan was getting more and more likable all the time. The young girl planted her feet and swallowed hard to renew her confidence while staring at the door from which the sounds were coming from. She pursed her lips and stepped up to it grabbing the handle in her hand. With a deep breath she turned the knob as she knocked with her free hand and entered the room.

That's how it worked in her head. In reality, the door was locked, and Kelly's step forward to step into the room merely bounced her off of the door frame. About twenty feet away on the other side of the door, a feminine voice was cut off by a yelp of surprise followed by a giggle. A deeper voice cursed, muttering, "Good thing I locked the door."

"Uh, come back later?" Called the feminine voice, followed by another giggle.

Kelly felt her heart leap up into her throat as fear and embarrassment overcame her. The young blond stared at the door wide-eyed thanking God she didn't actually walk in on what she thought she might have been walking in on. Had she really been that driven and selfish as to almost turn a situation into a nightmare? Her knees trembled and before she knew it, Kelly was running back down the hall the way she had come. She was so embarrassed that if she was to see anyone right now she might have become hysterical. The young teen rounded a corner and began to descend down the main staircase when her feet tangled up beneath her and sent her tumbling to the landing.

A shrill squeak escaped her until she finally stopped and shouted "OUCH! F#©K!" Kelly's ankle throbbed and she was pretty sure she twisted it. Her hands massaged it as she sat on the landing in tears hidden only by the long locks of golden hair that fell down over her face. Tears of both of pain and embarrassment. "What did I do to deserve all of this? Owwww...!!! CRAP!"

One of the agents walking by poked his head around the corner to see what the sudden shout was about. Seeing the crying teenager, he raised an eyebrow and shuffled his feet, unsure if he should approach. Deciding discretion was the better virtue in this situation, his muffled bootfalls on the carpet continued a moment later in the direction of his post.

Shivering from his record speed cold shower, Matt turned the water off and grabbed a couple of the towels, cursing Kelly's water use as he rubbed himself down briskly. Heading to the bedroom, he double-checked that the door was locked before grabbing a new shirt and a pair of jeans. The sterility of the room had irritated him after the first hour and his belongings from the suitcase that he was allowed to pack was spread around the room in an effort to take up space and add some color. Reaching for his CD player and headphones, he threw himself on the bed and jammed the earpieces on his head, turning on his music. Unlike his cohorts, he didn't blast it into his ears, but the volume was up enough that it would take a firm knock for him to hear it. Hanging upside down on the bed to grab his notebook and a few pencils from under the bed, he sat back and stared out the window. After a second thought, he grabbed an eraser. If Kelly was going to insist on using the television for her shows, then he was going to hang out in his room until it was time for lunch, so he wouldn't have to hear them.

OOCWow, Kelly really likes to jump to the over-reactions...I would have turned beet-red, said Sorry, wrong room, and then kept trying the doorknobs. But knocking this time.

Kelly eyed the agent as he walked past her and didn't even bother to ask if she was alright. "Jerk...!" she swore under her breath at him. What good are they anyway if they aren't going to help us when we need it? The teen girl puffed up her cheeks and grabbed hold of the railing to help pull herself back to her feet. Fortunately, she didn't feel any unnecessary pain when she put pressure on her ankle. That was a relief. The last thing she wanted was to be laid up in this place when the people protecting it weren't even helping them. Unless one counted the advice that one woman gave her.

With a sneer, Kelly descended the rest of the stairs slowly. The tears she had felt now beginning to dry. She just needed some time alone and maybe a little fresh air. The plan to teach that Hartman boy a lesson could wait until later. for now she would just make her way outside. If only they hadn't taken her cell phone. Then she could have at least called her friends. As it was, she was pretty sure she was going to die of boredom or annoyance before this was all over.

Kelly made her way outside and saw a number of agents walking the grounds. What is going on that we need so much protection? she wondered as she headed out back toward the hedge maze. She noticed it earlier, but had wanted to check out the rest of the house before wasting all day out here. Now it seemed like the on;y place she could go to get away from people. Surely the Hartman kid wouldn't find her in there and even the agents would have trouble keeping an eye on her. It would be a nice change from the constant observation and annoyances of the day. As she reached the entrance to the maze she felt a little like Alice taking her first steps into Wonderland. once she was in going back was going to be difficult, but that wasn't the point. The point was to find her way through the puzzle and feel like she actually accomplished something. Kelly nodded to herself in resolute fashion and started into the maze. Her imagination running wilder with each step.

In the security room, one agent noted Kelly's entrance into the maze without alarm. There were security cameras on each corner of the maze and agents within a half-second run if need be should there be trouble. The team had taken an aerial view of the maze already, plotting the entrance-to-exit routes from each end. Nonetheless, he leaned over to his right and murmured a quick command into the microphone, watching with satisfaction on his screen when a few agents began moving slightly closer from the woods to the maze in their patrols.

Downstairs, Walter and Amy entered the kitchen to start preparing lunch. With the house so big, when they weren't taking time to themselves, they found that conversing with and getting to know the other parents involved in Kat's situation was a preferable alternative to sitting around on their hands waiting for Diana to get done with whatever trial meetings were needed. Walter hadn't been able to reach Emily or Emily's lawyer husband for the last week, but he knew Diana was in good hands, and probably bored out of her mind wherever she was. He felt bad that she had missed her game though. Amy began taking pots out of the cabinet, and opening doors to find lunch food. She wasn't thrilled with the overly processed food options, but she would work with what she had. She hadn't realized how much cooking Diana did on a regular basis for the family until the family arrived at this resort and Amy had a sinking feeling when she couldn't think of a dinner idea.

A couple of agents poked their heads into the kitchen to confirm the couple's whereabouts, before moving off again. Amy was glad that no one mentioned the incident upstairs. She still didn't know who knocked, and she hoped it didn't scare Matt away. Peter had been happily playing with his toys earlier that morning, and they had thought it safe to get alone time for a bit.

Matt bobbed his head in time with the music and finished the caricature of Kelly, making her alien eyes slightly bigger with adept use of eraser and graphite. Tearing off the finished piece, he tossed it into the corner with his suitcase before starting on a sketch of a chickadee that alighted near his window.

Kelly's lower lip shunted out into a pout as she once again walked into a dead end. Her fists tightened and her feet stomped as she shouted, "God! I'm never going to get out of here!" She was already starting to berate herself for ever stepping foot in this time suck. Everything looked the same. If she walked around one corner there was another not far beyond. It was infuriating and she was beginning to wonder why people found having these things so fun. Then as she rounded yet another corner she stopped speechless. The maze had opened up into a small garden with a marble arch and bench next to a fountain pond. Rows of flowers were aligned around in various colors and sizes to give the place an almost magical feel. In that moment, Kelly realized just what the secret to the maze was and why whoever built it had done so. The young girl walked over the the bench and sat down letting the serene calmness of the hidden treasure consume her. Yeah, this would be her special place until they were allowed to leave. No parents. No agents. And most of all, No Matt!

Kyle stepped into the kitchen with an unlit cigar in his hand and smiled at the Hartman's as he made his way to the fridge for some orange juice. Sure it wasn't morning anymore, but he liked his orange juice. He had said many times over the years that when he retires down to Florida he was going to get a place with an orange tree so that he could have fresh orange juice everyday. His wife Carol scoffed at the idea every chance she got. Mostly because she knew she would be the one picking oranges and making juice out of them if they ever moved to such a place.

"Well hello there Walter.. Amy," he said with a cheerful smile as he set the juice down on one of the counters and went in search of a glass. Despite his concern over what was going on, Kyle was in good spirits. For one thing this was like a mini vacation at a resort he would never be able to afford. For another, it broke up the mundane trappings of his life. He actually was getting a chance to spend time with his wife. Something that seemed far too difficult with him on the road all the time and her always working odd hours. "I take it you're doing fine today?"

Amy blushed, and busied herself with the can opener and a can of tuna as Walter nodded to Kyle. "Glasses are in that cabinet there." She said, indicating the small cabinet next to Kyle's head.

"Yes, we are." Walter replied with a small smile of his own at his wife. He was busy with a cutting board, slicing up tomatoes. It was the only job his wife dared give him outside of a barbecue pit. He was good with camp food, but not much else. "I can't say I like being forced into a small vacation, but now that we're here, it's not so bad. It's too bad Diana missed her soccer game though. She was looking forward to it."

"Thanks," Kyle nodded as he opened up the cabinet and grabbed a glass. The Hartman's were nice people from what he had seen so far. Normal down to earth good people. All of the parents there were. From Ms. Masters to the Walkers. Although his wife was a little skeptical about the good Reverend. What with his being married to what appeared to be a twenty year old and all. It didn't really bother Kyle. To each their own. Plus good for him if he can get a girl half his age to love him and marry him.

Kyle began pouring orange juice in his glass as Walter talked about his Daughter missing her soccer game and he wondered who was actually more disappointed. Walter or his daughter. While the Hartman's didn't seem like the type of people who pushed their kids unreasonably like a stage mom, he really didn't know them well enough to know for certain. "Well, there are plenty of more soccer games for her to play. I'm sure you'd rather her be safe than be playing a game. I just wish they would tell us more about what is going on. The Townsends' always seemed pretty normal to me from the few times I met them. Then again, I suppose you can never really know people."

Kyle finished filling his glass and put the remaining orange juice away in the fridge. He then turned back and grabbed his glass and the cigar he had left on the counter, "So. Do you have any plans for today?"
