Standard Wealth Rules, because I can't be bothered to deal with conversion.

Most things are fair play. No tailed Demons. Homebrew in general will be decided a on case by case basis and I don't want characters with homebrew when the game starts.
8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?
Weird Races, Bloodlines, and Templates will be decided on case by case but all of the elementals are fine.
9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?
36 point buy.
10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?
No alignment restrictions. Good aligned characters will have a harder time explaining why they are in jail but if you feel up for it go for it. No suicidals.
11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?
Knock yourselves out. It makes for more interesting characters.
12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?
Use the forum dice roller. I won't have a dice thread because I find them to be a chore. Instead you just roll in the game thread. I will hide npcs rolls from you. I may even fudge some in / against your favor.
13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.
If the demons ever show up we will be using that wonderful set of rules Infinitus set up.
14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular?
Yes. Definitely. Think 3-5 paragraphs, a personality, and a physical description. It should be an explanation of your character's life. You know they end up in prison so your work's cut out for you in one respect.
15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?
Looooots of hack and slash and some practical problem solving. Roleplaying will be fused with gameplay since your characters probably won't have terribly large amounts of downtime.
16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?

Plot Hook 1: The Committee Meeting "So are we all here?" Surrounding a small circular table sat a group of male silhouettes. Nothing else was visible in the room due to the incredible darkness, and the only light seemed to come from a single smoldering ash tray in the center. Immediately following the question, a series of handseals were performed, and a number of symbols each in a different color alighted above the individual silhouette's heads. Each symbol was diffferent, and each heavily stylized like the village symbols. An eye, a sword, a wine glass, etc. "Good, we've all survived another term. To be honest, I'm a bit surprised. My research has shown that the assassination efforts of the rival villages is up 44% over the previous term." "Tch. 44% is outrageous, are you sure your statistics are reliable?" "I assure you my facts are quite sound. My suggestion is that we move forward with the Devilghost initiative." "Aya, you've been pushing that thing since day one yaknow. Methinks maybe your just tryin to scare us into voting along yaknow." "No. I agree with Black, we need to take action now to preserve our holdings. My spies tell me the other villages are growing restless. A sheep waits and reacts, a hawk kills it's aggressors." "I don't knooow. I give my vote to Yellow." ... "That's two for, one opposed. It rides on your Vote Yellow." ... in a whispery, raspy voice: "Do it."

Naruto Criminals Forced to Work for the Good of the Village. Dark and Gritty, but stylistically so. Fairly simple idea. Going to run a campaign of naruto d20 characters based around the idea of earning their right to return to the world. Probably based in mist village. I like the idea because I don't need to worry about people ditching. If they ditch, I'll just replace them with other ninja. No big deal. Also cool because it means I can run a fairly high campaign. The campaign will probably work like a frame narrative: individual missions rather than a combined story. I may even grab co-dms and run multiple groups at once eventually.

Keep in mind this is just an interest thread at the moment. If I get enough interest I will change the formatting to reflect a more serious approach. All of the characters would be criminals under physical force to work for a specific village. Because of that it would probably be somewhat railroaded in form though the specifics might be less so. Think of it as you need to get from point A to B and how you get there is up to you.

 

The great ninja war refers to the instance in which the powerful Ninja claiming to be Madara, in collaboration with Orochimaru’s apprentice and spiritual successor Kabuto, raised a powerful army using 2 epic level techniques and declared war on all of the ninja nations, in an attempt to cripple the combined military force of the known world and obtain the power of all of the tailed demons, effectively a vie for absolute power. However, both Madara and Kabuto were corrupt and so their union did not last. The war became three-sided as betrayal upon betrayal became the norm. Thanks to this weakness, the jinchuriki Naruto, with the backing of all of the major ninja villages, was able to crush both Kabuto and Madara’s forces and eventually defeat both villains.

However, before word could even spread of Madara’s defeat, Naruto fell into combat with another ninja, the Konoha deserter Uchiha Sasuke. Naruto managed to defeat Sasuke, but the technique he used claimed his own life in the process, leaving the world without a savior. In memory of Naruto’s sacrifice the villages declared a peace to be in order that would last for all eternity. However, as such political statements often are, the promise to honor Naruto’s memory with peace proved false. Within 15 years of Naruto’s death the villages had returned to a state of cold war and espionage. However things were never the same as before. As a result of techniques used during the last Ninja World War the tailed beasts were gone, presumably forever. In addition in order to prevent the use of the Impure World Resurrection Jutsu any time in the future there was a country wide law mandating the cremation of any and all deceased ninja.

As a result of the lack of tailed beasts as a device to hold one another in check the villages were now willing to use much more devious methods against one another and the political landscape changed to become much more severe. This was especially true with Kirigakure (Mist Village) which had a long history of leadership problems to begin with. The current Mizokage Mei Terumi died 9 years after the war and the Kage in power has been inconsistent ever since. Because there was no candidate truly able to replicate the power of Terumi, a cabinet came into being that would choose a suitable leader while never actually showing themselves. As such, the Mist Village became the first village to change over from the classic system of rule to a parliamentary system with a figurehead. Nobody knows exactly who is on Kirigakure’s shadow cabinet, and presumably they change as one member is replaced by another, same as the Mizokage.

The “weakness” of Kirigakure in comparison with some of its past incarnations has led to some rather bizarre reforms over the years. Many accuse the current administration as trying to emulate the behavior of the fourth Mizokage, despite the fact that the fourth was supposedly under the control of Tobi Madara. The most infamous of the new decrees is the one commonly referred to as the Decree of Efficiency, which requires unsuccessful ninja to undergo surgery to enhance their efficiency in combat. The specifics of the decree have been very well hidden but rumors circulating on what exactly is done to ninjas forced to “reform” have already led to an increase in mission success rates. There has been a lot of worry over an up and coming decree going by the title Devilghost Initiative. However, other than a name there seems to be no real knowledge as to what the initiative might entail.

 

What is Narutod20? Where can I find it?
Narutod20 is a homebrew d20 system that very, very vaguely references d20modern. In fact, you don't usually need anything past the d20modern srd to make the system work. It is hosted on it's own site and can be downloaded here.

Is there a certain village or region we'd be working for?
Yes. It's just a question of what that village would be. For the time being I'm thinking mist. This is for two reasons.
1) It's established that Mist have a hardass administration that are not your friends.
and
2) Mist has had some pretty BA criminals over the years.

What age group would the group be?
In theory there is no reason to assume you'd all be the same age, which is admittedly rare for a nd20 setting. However, I expect most of the players will end up being around the age of 17-24. Still, I could easily see someone past 30 in the group. If my players all want to be the same age I can definitely work that out. Otherwise it will be up for grabs.

Does my character have to be a criminal?
Long story short, you are in a top security prison for doing something that has pissed Mist off. If you want to go the "wrongfully imprisoned" route, that's fine. Just don't expect to find evidence to exonerate yourself early in the game. Th criminal ties thing is a pretty significant part of the game. Don't expect to break it within a few weeks of play.

Applications Apps should be in the following format. Sheets will not be necessary until after players are selected. Apps may be submited in secret or through Private Message. Name: Race: (Including Bloodline) Class: Gender: Male, female, or other Age: Personality: About a paragraph Physical Description: About a paragraph Background: 3 - 5 paragraphs. Don't give me a block of text, break it up. This is your lifestory. This must include what you did to have yourself placed in prison and should include a couple of plot points I can bring up at a later point in the game. In addition, to all of the above, tell me how far can I push your character. What sort of things happening to your character are likely to piss you off. No matter what if you die in combat you die, but would you be angry if... your character lost a limb, was experimented on, became the subject of a compulsion affect that wrested control from you for a limited time? This is a place to put your pet peeves.

Personality: Lajia is very blunt and does little to hide her feelings. She doesn't much care what others think of her and, unless her life depends on silence she's unlikely to allow any. She revels in the misfortune and misery of others. She has no quarrels with forming alliances for the sake of achieving goals, however she isn't seeking friends or pity. She's disgusted by both. For the moment she has no plans to attempt to escape the prison. She has no one waiting on the outside and her sole remaining goal in life, to feed on the suffering of others, is satisfied every day in the eyes of the falsely accused and the tears of visiting families. Not to mention how amusing the scuffles between fellow inmates can be. Her dislikes include fainting, going into shock, death, and anything else that releases her victims from their suffering before she's had the chance to enjoy her fill.

Physical Description: Lajia has green eyes and dirty blonde hair that hangs nearly to her elbows. She has a slim build that works to conceal her strength.

Background: Lajia was born in the land of water, in a small village known as Tinsor, to a seemingly unremarkable family. Her father, Rijo, worked constantly in whatever job he could find to scrape together the wealth to keep his family fed. He was not a physically imposing man, but his friendly demeanor often won others over. Unbeknownst to Lajia, Rijo possessed the Shikotsu Myaku bloodline. Her mother, Shodome, stayed at home and focused on keeping a clean house and raising Lajia and Lajia's little brother Turu. Shodome was a loving mother who could weave together amazing tales that would fascinate her children. Turu, who referred to his older sister as "La-la", enjoyed nothing more than following Lajia around. Though he was little over a year younger than her, Turu looked up to his sister immensely. When Lajia was nine her village was razed by a band of raiders. At the time, there seemed to be no reason for such an attack on Tinsor. Without any reason to be on high alert, the number of skilled ninja in the village was quite low and the raiders quickly eliminated any who could put up any real resistance. Lajia survived by lying motionless on the ground in the embrace of her mother's corpse, weeping silently to the sound of her fellow villagers screaming and pleading for mercy. When all was silent but the burning of the familiar homes of Tinsor, Lajia whispered a farewell to her mother and rose to her feet. She made a feeble attempt to look for survivors, but the village was quickly becoming a solid cloud of smoke and it seemed far too likely that she would stumble into a wall of flame if she didn't leave the village immediately. She hid in the nearby brush until the sun rose, at which point she ventured back into what remained of her village to search for her brother and father amongst the dead. She could not find either for certain, however several of the corpses throughout the village had been burned beyond recognition, and she reasoned that her family members may well be among them.

Lajia traveled on foot in a single direction that she had chosen more or less at random. After a day and a half of travel she was found by a kunoichi from Nadeshiko village. Impressed by what Lajia had endured, the kunoichi, Purotta, adopted Lajia as her heir. Purotta trained Lajia in the ways of combat for several years. It was during this time that Lajia's bloodline manifested. Though this was new to both of them and neither had any true guidance in the matter, Lajia and Purotta spent a great deal of time learning the extent of this gift, and what Lajia's bloodline could accomplish. When Lajia turned seventeen she set out, as is custom in Nadeshiko, to find a strong male to supply her with a strong female heir of her own. Unlike others from Nadeshiko, however, Lajia had not been raised from birth to view this goal as important. Instead, Lajia saw this as her chance to exact her revenge. She set out to learn who it was that raided her village so many years ago, and to make sure that such an act did not go unpunished. She traveled from village to village asking questions, looking for leads, and spreading the word that she was looking for the man responsible. The air of power that surrounded her enticed several men and it wasn't long before she was traveling in a group, and then a gang, and then an army of mercenaries. She hired her services out to others, reasoning that eventually someone would have a problem with the very raiders she was seeking. She was hopeful when at first she heard of a man hiring bandits to pillage cities that did not pay "protection fees". But soon thereafter she heard that the raid was caused by a small band of nin who wanted to clear an area to rebuild the village of Uzushio. There were reports that the attack was a warning from The Land Of Earth to The Land Of Water. This was partially supported by multiple arrangements the two countries had made over recent years that seemed to favor The Land of Earth. Even still, there was evidence that suggested that, due to various tax exemptions, the village of Tinsor was costing The Land of Water a great deal of money to maintain and essentially bleeding out their funds. With no legal option, some believe that the government conspired to eliminate one of their own villages to avoid the fall of the economy.

With so many varying stories, so long after the fall of the village, and no solid evidence to guide her, Lajia was forced to accept the fact that she may never know who's responsible for the death of her family and friends. Seeing his opening, an ambitious mercenary in her pack made his move. He consoled her for her loss. She felt helpless, unable to ever avenge the evil that had taken place, but this man gave her a new outlet. He convinced her that there was no one person responsible for the tragedy, it was human nature. It was, basically, everyone's fault for allowing such a thing to take place. No one was innocent. He convinced her that she had only one life and that no one was going to go out of their way to make her life pleasant, just, and memorable, that was her job. He convinced her that all humans are inheirently selfish, greedy, and apathetic toward the suffering of others. She was a good person and mankind, life, and fate itself owed her the best. Inspired by this man's words, she and her mercenaries began to take what they wanted. They raided villages of their own with no more respect for human life. These were people they would never know, people who had never given them anything, the lives of these people had no value to Lajia and her men. For a time it was thrilling. When an entire village is brought to its knees at your order, the feeling of power can be intoxicating. But while Lajia's focus was on enjoying the finer things in life, the very man who set her on this path was continuing his plan on the path of power. Soon after, he staged a coup and Lajia was nearly killed evading her own band of mercenaries.

This time was different than the raid on her village. This time she knew exactly who was responsible and who needed to suffer. Though she might not be able to end the lives of thirty or so men at the same time by herself, she began to put a plan of her own into action. She tracked them from a safe distance for a while and anonymously alerted the village of Kiri that the band of mercenaries was in the area. Under the cloak of the night sky she snuck into the traitorous mercenary's living quarters and ended his life while the rest of the mercenaries were dealing with a surprise attack from Kiri officials. Roughly twelve members of the group, Lajia included, survived the attack to be arrested.

Name: Arigo Paozi
Race: Human (No Bloodline)
Class: Smart Hero -> Elementalist -> Devastator
Gender: Male
Age: 15

Personality: Ari is timid. He's intelligent and likes to figure out solutions to problems, however he has great difficulty voicing these opinions, typically worrying that his views will be seen as inferior or be met with ridicule. Ari has low self-esteem, but is very loyal to those who are nice to him and will come through in a pinch.

Physical Description: Ari is barely five feet tall and, given the height of his parents, it seems unlikely that he'll grow more than half a foot further in his lifetime. His somewhat frail build makes it obvious that he spends more time excercising his mind than his body. He has a slouch to his posture that makes it look like he's expecting a beating at any time and he's spent so much time with a sorrowful expression on his face that even his smiles look as though he's attending a funeral.

Background: Arigo was the last born to a prominent family in Konoha. His very existence led to the breakdown of the Paozi family. Ari's parents had four children before him. The first was Tezuka, an intelligent and cunning young man known for his shrewd business sense and his way with the ladies. The second was Otome, a beautiful lady who won the hearts of even the coldest men in the land. The third was Usio, whose physical strength was so impressive that it bordered on legendary. The fourth was Difune, who was, for many years, adored for being such a cute and respectful child. Ari's father, Mokino, was a well-known arms dealer. He provided high-quality weapons to countries across the globe. Ari's mother, Shiwa, was the daughter of highly-respected Jounin. Each member of the family possessed reasonable taijutsu and ninjutsu skill, and each did their part in promoting Paozi weapons. The business and the family prospered. When Difune was six years old, however, Shiwa gave birth to Arigo.

Mokino knew as he saw his wife swell that the child was not his. He was furious at his wife's infidelity. She, in turn, blamed him for being so distant with his focus solely on his business. Arigo's parents were always at odds after that point, though in public they would maintain the appearance of a happily married couple, for the sake of keeping the image of the family (and thus the business) a positive one. The children, most of which were old enough to see through simple lies, were all aware that Arigo did not have the same father, with the exception of Difune who was not told for fear he might let the news slip to the public. As a result, Tezuka, Otome, and Usio all adopted the same cold attitude toward Arigo that their parents had. There was no simple way to just make him go away without bringing the shame of the family to the attention of the public, so Arigo was raised as a Paozi. Difune, never understood the treatment of his younger brother, but, being very respectful of his elders, he never questioned it either. Arigo was instructed, just as everyone else, to appear confident and proud of his family in public. He struggled, but did his best to obey. In an effort to maintain the family's flawless image, Ari was subjected to ninjutsu and taijutsu training, just as his other siblings had been. Taijutsu frightened him, but because he was able to learn ninjutsu so quickly he was allowed to focus on his ninjutsu training alone.

Gradually, members of the family went off their separate ways, hoping to have a Paozi representative in each major region. Mokino and Shiwa remained in Konoha. Tezuka traveled to the Land of Wind. Otome was welcomed in the Land of Lightning. Usio initially went to the Land of Earth. They were impressed by his strength, but due to an unfortunate event that the Paozi family never speaks of, the Land of Earth officially denounced the Paozi family and swore to treat any member of the family that entered the country as a war criminal. Soon after, Usio was able to convince the samurai of the Land of Iron to purchase from him and he took up residence there. Difune took Arigo with him and went to work in Kiri. Living under Difune's rules, Arigo found he had much more freedom to come and go as he pleased. Though he rarely left Difune's side for the first few months, eventually he began to wander the village on his own. He eventually met Zhu and Bire, brothers around Arigo's age who were into causing mischief. It seemed harmless enough for a time, but as they got older their pranks escalated in scale and scope. They were known to be hoodlums but always found a way to evade capture. There was just never enough evidence, never any witnesses, never a conclusive link to the thefts, break-ins, or defacing of property. Arigo was reluctant to be a part of any of that at first, but over time it no longer bothered him. Zhu and Bire were nice to him. They laughed with him instead of at him, and he never felt he needed to prove anything to be accepted by them, so he wanted to be part of whatever they did.

One night the trio went to loot the home of a local man by the name of Tanzen. It was no secret to those who had ever seen the man that Tanzen was not out to make friends. He was rude to anyone who would listen, but he was also quite wealthy due to three inheiritances that had all fallen to him. Arigo, Zhu, and Bire snuck into Tanzen's home on a night they believed he wouldn't be there. Unfortunately, he arrived soon after and they were forced to hide. From the shadows, they fell witness to a cloaked figure murdering Tanzen and taking only a single scroll. The whole ordeal terrified Arigo so much that he fainted in a moment of panic. When he came to he was being arrested for the murder of Tanzen.

Arigo wasn't sure what had happened and why he was left alone to take the fall, but he believed that surely there must have been some reason his friends were unable to take him with them. He said very little when the authorities questioned him. Though there were things he still didn't understand, his loyalty to his friends was unwavering. The death penalty seemed likely, but Difune used his influence to prevent such a punishment. For the nature of the crime Arigo finds himself imprisoned with adults with the disapproval of his family, a bleak future, and the constant threat of violence from the other inmates to look forward to.

Oh, Rahz, you are my hero right now. I have been drooling for a Nd20 game for a few weeks now. I can't think of any questions at the moment that you haven't already answered.

You had my interest the moment it was an Nd20 game. Had it even more so when its taking place in Kirigakure since that's my favorite Sad as it is that it hasn't really been shown much like the other non-Konoha villages.village. Being a criminal makes my character ideas difficult to pick between a few I've been thinking over lately.

I guess a question I could ask would be: Do our character have to be criminals? Would, say, a war criminal or foreign ninja captured in Water Country or perhaps even a village-less ninja seeking admission as a Kiri-ninja via the prison as a trial be acceptable?

Right now I'm thinking between a Spacetime-Raiton preferenced Well-Rounded Ninja, Taijutsu Specialist and a My leading candidateGenjutsu Specialist.

Hi Jigs. I made a general answer in the Q&A but I'll be more specific here.

If you want to be a war criminal you can try that approach. However, you will have to deal with the following problems before I accept the character. This is mist we're talking about, so why didn't they just kill you outright? It would be somewhat understandable for you to be kept if the initiative program you players are taking place in had already been initiated. However, even then you would have to be able to explain why the village was comfortable sending you out again when your home village might recognize you. Either way you also need to be able to explain how they were able to cover up your disappearance from your village. You are level 7-10. Every village reclaims the bodies of their higher level ninja in order to preserve the secrets in those bodies. This was gone into in the show and I'm keeping it because it has lot's of plot potential. If you feel like working through these problems when writing your profile then I suppose you can.

The seeking admission idea I am less crazy about. It just doesn't appeal to me and the thematic construct I had in mind for the game.

Your mechanical ideas are all fine. Just go with the one you decide.

Yeah, once I think I've gotten sufficient interest to actually put serious effort into this I will decide on all of those minor details.

As for background stuff I can tell you now. I'll want a background, a personality, and a physical description. Tried and true methodology.

Once I have about mmm... five people, I'll probably start taking this thread more seriously and put out some descriptives.

Nice character idea, Blade. I think the bloodline you're thinking of is Red Eyes of the Mibu clan, an optional bloodline in the Bloodline/Templates section.

thanks jiggy but im wondering if i should just make it full on ccd... another thing i am debating is weather he should be a fist user (psychopath lee anyone?) or if i should turn him into a swordsman... decisions decisions...
