The Cafeteria (Diana and Jake)...
"I didn't hear anything on the news about what was going on at the school," Juliet answered Diana. "I think they are trying to keep it quiet but there is a lot more going on today than Friday. We're playing Southside, did you hear about the accident at the nuclear plant? That would have been awful!" Juliet glances up toward the end of the table and whispers to Diana. "What do you think of Jake? The quarterback. He's sitting across from Evan. I've talked to him a few times and he seems really nice. You think he would be offended if I asked him to a movie...or the Prom?" Evan was turning all shade of red but nodded to Jake, "I saw her later and it seemed cool. I even told her I was going to ask her out again and she seemed ok with the idea." Evan shook his head and looked embarrassed. "I'm trying to play it cool you know? You must have the babes falling over you, being the quarterback and all" Evan was clearly surprised by Jake's question and started laughing. "I wish, having super powers would be so cool. Saving the world and all that. Nope, not me. I was wondering the other day when I was working on a quad how they might have gotten their powers. You think that attack a couple weeks ago might have had something to do with it." Evan starts to turn his head but stops again and whispers to Jake, "You see that super girl, she's smoking! It's funny they thought it was Samantha. She's in my study hall with her boyfriend Scott. She's nice and all but I don't see it." Sam... As she waited for Diana to reply, Sam helped her parents sort through items and take things into the house. Sam quickly discovered that her great-grandfather had cleared, or had cleared a few of the rooms for Ellen, Henry and Sam to move in and store their belongings. As she was taking a bunch of stuff upstairs using her telekinesis, Sam looked down to see her great-grandfather looking up a flight of stairs at her. "So you must be the supergirl that New York is raving about. That explains a lot." He smiled up at her and having known him all her life, Sam was certain that it was genuine. Scott and Kat... "Certainly Mr. Reynolds, although we have all the paperwork here. All we need are your signatures and everything is left to you and Ms. Townsend. Although it would be best if you had an attorney present to advise you." Attorney Kincaid replied as Attorney Everett put the date in her phone. They both offered Scott their cards and stepped back. "Please call us or have your attorney do so if there are any questions and we can discuss everything before you come in to sign for everything." Quentin... Once again, Quentin had no trouble arriving late at school. The secretaries were becoming accustomed to it and nobody really seemed to mind. His paper on Tachyon's was going well and Quentin found he had an e-mail from one of the senior staff and Deans at MIT. The man was very interested in meeting Quentin but was clearly trying to be respectful of his privacy. Once Quentin was roaming the halls, he quickly picked up the surface thoughts of the students around him. Strange things were going on all around in the halls, levitating books, hallways turning to water, and more. "It seems our, and by our I mean Max and my, attempt at eliminating the super powers in the school only resulted in creating more supers. The surge in super powers, especially in hormone-riddled teenagers, cannot come to a good end. You might want to think about doing something Quentin." "Splendid. I'd like to get a copy of the paperwork now and discuss it with my sister, if at all possible. We'll see about getting an attorney involved if we feel we need one. Either way, we'll see you Friday. Take care." Scott gave the attorneys a halfhearted smile as he picked up each of their cards, then closed the door behind him, waiting to lock it until they were off of the stairs. He walked back into the kitchen and picked up the dishes he and Kat had used. While he was rinsing them off and putting them away in the dishwasher, he gave Kat a brief summary of what the attorneys had said. "So our father has apparently decided to release trust funds for each of us, as well as sign over the house, amongst other things."
__________________He sat back down across from her, craning his neck slightly to look at the cat on her lap for a moment. "So I take it you want to keep him? Like I said, you'll be the one taking care of him. He already chose you as his favorite here, and I would hate to encroach on that territory." Scott smirked at Kat, but his expression turned to a smile as he walked around the counter to give her a hug and a kiss on the forehead. "I'm going to take a shower, then maybe I can give you a tour." He turned to look back at Kat as he stood in the hallway, smirking once again. "First thing on the agenda once the house is officially ours: deadbolts on all of the bathroom doors." With that last playful jab, he turned and went off to the bathroom for a long, relaxing shower. |

"Well they did dig her out of the house and the supergirl was said to have been in New York or something at the time of the accident, so unless Walker can be in two places at once I doubt she's the supergirl. Although I have to say she is pretty hot. The supergirl. Not Walker. Not that Walker is ugly, she's just.... I don't know..." Jake stumbled for words for a second before realizing that he should just change the subject to escape his folly, "You know you probably shouldn't play things too cool or else she might get cold on you. Prom is coming up. Maybe you should ask that girl to go with you. If she said yes to a date, then she probably would love to go to prom with you. Besides, what's the worst that can happen? She says no? Big deal. There are a lot of girls that would be lucky to go to prom with you."
Jake hoped that he would be able to escape more questions about his dating life given how complicated it was. He had a certain standing in the school and while he might like some girls, if their status wasn't high enough on the social ladder, he was looking at school suicide in his own standing. He hated that it worked like that, but over the years he had come to accept it for what it was. He had a mask to wear around other students and the cost of taking it off had to be balanced with whether it was worth it or not. He still felt bad about breaking the heart of a poor freshman earlier in the year, but that was just how it was. "You know, I don't think you've ever told me who the girl was you liked," Jake leaned in as he whispered, "So who is it?" |

Quentin gives a sigh at that. Sygma was right, in the end. Something had to be done.
__________________You're right that we need to do something. Quentin replies to Sygma while dorking around with his iPad. The MIT guy deserves a good chat certainly, but keeping privacy. So no for a meet but yes for email tag. At least for now. The thing is, individuals matter. That was the biggest source of disagreement I had with you and Max. The secret corporation, the secret tests (not including the involuntary testing parts), I didn't mind those parts. It's when you two started treating people as things that I was bothered. |

"Yeah, I heard about the nuclear plant. That would have been awful indeed. Hard to remember that there is a nuclear plant there, until something threatens to turn us all into glowing goo." Diana said with a shudder than needed no feigning. That could have ended so badly for us...
__________________She glanced at the quarterback down the table. Heh, if I had thought Kat was Kat and hadn't known about the rest of the stuff, I'd say Juliet was in for some competition, but not anymore. Lowering her voice to avoid being heard by the football players, she whispered back, "He's...okay. Yes he's nice, but he's just a muscle bound jock like the rest of them otherwise." She hadn't been into social climbing like the others for some time, which Kat had barely accepted before. Diana had thought that Kat had been slightly relieved at the lack of competition, herself. How was that changed now? "I don't think he'd be offended if you asked him to a movie, but he strikes me as one of those old-fashioned types that like to ask girls out instead of the other way around, so prom might be out. Don't you think it's a bit early though? I mean, we have two years until Senior Prom." Plus the thought of trying to afford three different prom dresses made her wince a bit. |

The Cafeteria (Diana and Jake)...
"Senior Prom?" Melissa says from behind Juliet. "Didn't you hear Diana? They combined the Proms because of cost concerns. Now it is for Juniors and Seniors and a Sophomore can attend if they are going with a Junior or Senior. You know how that works though, the Sophomores who want to go together just team up with Juniors or Seniors and say they are going with them just to buy the tickets. Nobody cares after that." Juliet nods in agreement with Melissa, "It takes away from being a Senior but really opens the Prom up to be a school event. Although it's bound to be strange if these things happening around the school follows us to the Prom, if I make it that is." Juliet sighs and looks wistfully at Jake before looking back to Diana, "Is that your phone? Maybe it's Kat. I haven't heard from her in over a week now, I really hope she is doing ok." The text does not turn out to be from Kat but from Sam. Looking embarrassed, Evan just shakes his head. "You have a point but let's talk about that later. Too many people around if you know what I mean." Jake and even Evan are both saved when some of the football players stop by, Dave and Bill, tight end and wide receiver, respectively. "Jake, what are you doing over here? Did you hear, the coach wants to get everyone together by the end of the week and start going over drill and exercise routines he wants us to work on through the summer before practice officially starts." "So Evan, after my position again next year?" Bill asks with a good natured but somewhat wary look. "I don't know Bill, I'm not sure I have the time to invest all the practice." Evan looks as if he wants to say more but gets up instead. "I have to run to the library, paper due Thursday and I need to check a couple things. See you guys later." "Looks like my position is safe for another year," Bill says with a confident smile as Evan makes his departure. Scott and Kat... The lawyers more than get the message and leave after letting Scott know that the paperwork will be forwarded to him later that day. The cat glances up at Scott as he returns seems to pay him little attention. "I don't think Thomas will be any problem," Kat replies as she gently places him on a chair before cleaning up the kitchen. "Do you have a spare toothbrush? I need to shower too so you may as well show me which wing of this place is mine. Then we need to go and put your Camaro in my name. Oh, and I need to go to school some time this week to see the guidance counselor. I have to touch base with my therapist as well and I have to call Di." Quentin... "But Quentin, there are billions of people. We were only working with a select few after all. It didn't even amount to a tenth of a percent did it. But if you are going on the idea that all life is precious then I see your point. But where do you stop? Why are test animals so different if life is a precious commodity?" 'Hey Quentin," a voice manages to get through to the brilliant teenager. It was Phil Garvey, who Quentin knew was one of the student who had been contacted by Wayside and also collected some photos of the female students without their knowledge. They shared math together, not that Quentin had to pay any attention to it anymore. "I noticed you are doing much better these days and was wondering if you tutor people." |

"Oh that's right." She grimaced slightly. There went that excuse. "I'm probably going to wait another year myself if I can. I'm not so eager to go this year. Would rather wait and only have to buy one or two dresses. Besides, school events are usually filled with lame music and sweaty-palmed boys. Besides, the only way I could afford a dress right now is through Goodwill, and that's just...blech. I mean, I'm sure there's some gorgeous dresses there, but I dunno. I'm not willing to do "gently used" yet."
__________________Diana belatedly remembered she had shoved her phone into storage, and reached into her pocket now, calling it out. "Nothing from Kat yet. She's doing alright though. Better than I would be if it was my father. Got one from Sam." School ok. Students using powers...in plain sight. Im ok. Talk later? She texted to Sam. |

“Grandpa J!” Sam exclaimed with delight and a smile of her own. She had just seen him a couple of weeks earlier for an unscheduled appointment; he had been her doctor all his life, but she was always happy to see him. “Let me put these things away and I’ll be right down!” Deciding to show off, Sam rose into the air and flew herself and the bundle of belongings up the winding stair case.
“Sorry!” Sam called back when she brushed one of the walls with the bundle. Luckily it was only clothes so it wouldn’t hurt the paint. Feeling her phone vibrate, Sam waited until she landed to reply to Diana. “What? Definitely! Students were using their powers around the school? Things were going to get crazy fast around there. Quickly splitting the items among the rooms, Sam went back down stairs once she was finished to find Grandpa J. |

Thermodynamic Miracles. The trick is to recognize that while all life is precious sapience makes things complicated. Needless cruelty is never okay but if the options are some rabbits or a bunch of people later you have to make a choice. Quentin admits, tricky but true.

I have however been thinking of setting up a website or something to do something online. How's that sound?" Quentin says at first, leaning in. First he takes a look with his mind to see if he can get what Phil's powers are from his thoughts. "Though there is something else I wanted to talk to you about, quietly." Quentin adds, quieter. |

Scott retrieved a new, green toothbrush from the 12 pack he had stored in one of the bathroom sinks, handing it to her. "We're dividing the house into wings now? Interesting. You're here a day and already you're trying to mark our territories. What's next, are you going to declare war and invade my side of the house?" He nudged her shoulder playfully and led her to the third floor, opening up one of the two doors. Inside was an enormous room with everything Scott had assumed a teenage girl would like, with some helpful suggestions from Sam. "As soon as I found out you were my sister, I converted this bedroom to be yours... just in case. We're about to come into a lot of money as well, apparently. So if you'd like, you and I can go furniture shopping, and paint it a different color whenever we have time." He smiled and led her to a door a few feet to the left of the bed. "Your own bathroom, with everything in it. A large tub, shower, toilet, bathroom, medicine cabinets, etc."
__________________Scott smiled wider as he took her hand and led her back out into the hallway and opened the other door. Inside were rows upon rows of shelves and metal rails with clothes hangars on them. "This was my mother's walk in closet for the few years that she lived here. It's yours now." He held up a finger in front of Kat's face for a moment. "There's a catch. By accepting these two rooms, you acknowledge that there is no need for me to put the Camaro in your name. You're not touching my baby, especially since you have a car." He smirked, feeling confident that she would choose the room and closet over his car. |

The Cafeteria...
"Oh..." Juliet replied to Diana noncommittally and looked away but the bell for classes rang after that and the students began filtering out of the cafeteria in a giant pack. Juliet stayed close to Diana as they left and when the students finally began separating, Juliet leaned in close to Diana to speak in a low voice. "Di...I know this was mentioned before and pretty indelicately but is everything alright? There are some rumors going around about you and Sam and Scott Reynolds." She raised her hands defensively as Diana turned to her, "I'm just saying there are and we've been friends a long time and I just want to know you are OK. Sorry!" Scott and Kat... Kat laughed as Scott mentioned the bargain about not taking the Camaro for the two rooms. "I was starting to think you missed that comment, you have a pretty good poker face when you want." She looked around the room and into the closet and nodded, "Ok, it's a deal. Besides, your Camaro is so last year's model now. You see that new ZR-1 model that's coming out. What's the ad for it, 'Now available in ridiculously fast...?'" Kat's face falls somewhat an she suddenly looks uncertain, "I need to go get my things and my car. Would you go with me? I don't know if my mom will be there..." Kat's not even looking at Scott as she obviously struggles with the thought of facing the rest of her adoptive family. Sam... Returning downstairs, Sam found her grandfather and parents in the kitchen. Their conversation seemed perfectly normal but Sam got the distinct impression she missed something. "So Sam...your mother told me about your powers when the house was destroyed and they've been playing your appearance in New York almost constantly. I'm not going to comment on your choice of costume but...when are you taking me flying?" "Oh no!" Henry says jumping right in on the conversation. "I'm next! She promised. Even Mrs. Harris has gone flying!" "Mrs. Harris? The delightful woman who is your neighbor? Is this one of those secrets that everyone knows?" "Well, she does know Sam as well as the rest of us," Ellen replied as she rolled her eyes at the men's antics but couldn't stop the smile and head shake. Of course, she'd already been flying... Quentin... "Online? That would be great, yeah." Phil replied. His mind didn't seem to be thinking about his powers but Quentin sensed he was a little concerned about personal space when Quentin leaned in. Quentin's question immediately got Phil's attention and he could tell when the other boy became wary. "Like what?" Does he know I've been turning the floor to water. Oh man, hopefully he doesn't know i caused that cheerleader's skirt to run down her leg. Not that Mandi didn't deserve it and those were some great shots I got. |

Diana choked slightly as Juliet asked her about Sam and Scott. "Um, no no no no no! Nothing is going on between me and Scott or me and Sam. We're just friends. Scott and Sam are the couple."
__________________"I'm sorry, Juliet. I didn't mean to be bitchy at you and Melissa today, I'm just still stressed out from the weekend. I can't seem to take anything friendly as such today. Everything and everyone was in my face..." She hesitated for a moment. If you couldn't tell one of your best friends something, who could you tell? She didn't have to give specifics. "To top it off - you remember Chris, right? -" Diana swallowed around the lump in her throat as she crossed her fingers behind her back to ward away ill luck for speaking badly of the dead. "Well, he managed to patch things up with Kat about the issues between them so she didn't hate his guts anymore or scream at him in the hallways, and he kind of dumped me for her. It wasn't Kat's fault, she didn't realize I was still waiting for him to clarify whether he liked me, or tell me what was going on, but then all this stuff with her foster father happened and I haven't seen him since to give him a piece of my mind. Now Kat's feeling really badly about what happened, so I don't want to bring it up with her right now, but I'm feeling kind of down at the moment. And Bitchy. With a capital B. Plus someone around us this weekend accidentally mistook me for a lesbian and I overheard him saying so within my hearing." Diana gave a wry look at her friend. So far, she had technically not told a lie. Scott-Clone telling that to her face was a mistake, and it was within her hearing. "I think it's that whole following Kat around thing, plus the martial arts, the haircut, and the fact that I don't have a boyfriend draping all over me like a rag doll. I told someone else about it and the person didn't mention it again, but I was advised that maybe I should wear more dresses, grow my hair out, and wear makeup. As if I had enough problems." Diana frowned. "So that was a really long runaround, but to answer your question directly, no I'm not "okay", but I will be eventually." |

Well, he's a perv and he has water powers. No need to be 'subtle' about this, from a power point of view. The classmates wouldn't see anything at all.
__________________One - you have powers. I don't care about that by itself but try to keep it down for the rest of us. This? Telepathy. Second - The pervy camera thing you do? Creepy. As. Hell. Cut out the Peeping Tom thing, alright? If you wouldn't show it too your Mom, don't take the shot. Third - Using your powers to get shots for that camera-fetish thing you got going? That's pretty much the one way you could of made it even worse. Cut that out, got it? Don't make me press the issue. |

Laughing, Sam moved between her father and grandfather and placed a hand on both of them. She slowly rose all three of them into the air and around the first floor for a few minutes before setting them back down. "There, you have both officially flown. If you want a longer flight outside then you will need to wait until after dark."
Sam grabbed some water and asked if anyone else wanted anything, getting them whatever they asked for. "Since you all know about my powers and that they are springing up, one of my friends at school sent me a text saying that students are using powers in the open there. I think school is going to get much more interesting." |
