After we are able to narrow this down, the Community Supporters are going to decide who our 2012 Hall of Fame Inductees will be!

Due to a miscalculation in deciding which games were eligible, Birth of the Superhumans was allowed through to this round in spite of not being eligible for nominations.

Due to this, I am leaving voting open for an additional week, and this game will not be moved past this round. It will, however, be eligible for a nomination next year. People who have voted for Birth of the Superhumans are welcome to vote for another game in its stead.

We (well, I, it was my fault) apologize for the mistake, and look forward to the rest of this round of the Hall of Fame.

I would like to protest. Foxtrot, my player who first nominated the game checked before nominating it and he was told that it was close enough.

This game, in my opinion, really demonstrates what games on this site should be. It not a just a game where people come to post things, but a community where friends come to write together and share experiences with one another whether that is in the fictional universe the game takes place in or in RL. No one knew each other when we began this game, but we have all become good friends which I believe is an important aspect of this site and the kinds of games on it. The game itself has suffered through the loss of not only game threads and posts, but a DM who disappeared as well. Which as I'm sure you are aware generally kills a game. The players kept the game alive because they enjoyed writing with each other so much despite losing the DM and eventually one of the players took over as DM and has gone well beyond what any DM is expected to do by juggling multiple personal storylines and keeping the main game thread interwoven with those individual stories as they unfold. The game itself is nearing 10,000 posts not counting the ones that were lost when the original DM deleted them. Which from my research, 10,000 posts is a fairly rare feat in any game on this site. All of the posts are of what I call good quality, meaning that there are very few one or two sentence posts in game threads or even open roleplaying threads.

I could go on and on about the merits of this game, but I'll save them for another time. With any luck for a nomination thread. Anyway, let me know what you think and if you think we can nominate such a great game. Personally, I think it would be a shame to have this game overlooked on such a technical issue considering the impact it has had on the players who play it and the example it sets for everyone who has ever loved a game, saw it nearly die, and then watched it return stronger than ever.

When I told you it would probably be fine, the staff were just beginning discussion of whether the game would be allowed. Since doing so (I realize it's been like 3 weeks... apparently these things take a while), we've received a fair number of complaints from other users and the majority of the staff ended up deciding that we should make the game ineligible.

So I'm afraid I'm going to have to disqualify the game this year. It will, however, be eligible next year. And hell, if no one else does, I'll be nominating it myself - I read through the posts and such, and noticed it was one hell of a game.

So a game with almost 11,000 posts and a dedicated group of players is being disqualified because it is a few weeks short of a year? Our earliest posts in game are the beginning of August but the recruitment thread began in July. By the time voting is over in the CS forum we are talking two weeks from a year.

Birth of the Superhumans is the lead game and so because a few players protest the majority is overruled?

Believe me when I say, this decision was not easy to make. We noticed it almost as soon as the voting opened, and it took us this long to act on because it was a hard decision.

Ultimately, the decision came down to: we had already disqualified at least one other game for the exact same reason, so we had to go with the letter of the rule to be fair to all users: a game must be one year old at the time of nomination to qualify for hall of fame status. At the time of nomination, Birth of Superhumans was only ten months old.

Chronicler has apologized for the error, and I am also doing so as one of the people that voted against you. We screwed up, and it sucks. It does happen occasionally, and we're sorry.

But look on the bright side, clearly the community likes you guys. Your game is awesome, and there's no disputing that. However, that's not the point we're debating, and we've got to be fair to everyone, even if it means we have to make things suck today for you.

For the record, WoLT, the game that was disqualified, is actually 4 years old, it's just recently moved to this site in February. I would recommend amending the rules to read more clearly in the future so others don't experience the same problem, because apparently this has happened twice now.

You are correct WoLT. It was assumed it had to be active on DnDOG since it was a Hall of Fame for games on our site.

It won't hurt to make that clarification in the future.

For the future, the following discrepancy might also be of note. The first is not an official rule, is it? The second is from Hall of Fame 2012 instructions.

The important piece is that the game has to have been active for a year on this site. Whether it lasted a year and ended, or is still going strong, the "one year age" requirement is what matters.

And, naturally, the "on this site" part too...
