Battle at Metadyne

Joseph…

”Non, this is not a crisis, Monsieur. A crisis is an artificial intelligence infecting the word with microscopic machines to take people over. That is a crisis.” She says it off-handedly and with a smile as she watches Joseph grab hold of the door. At first the vault door refuses to move, despite the locking mechanism having been retracted. It’s weight is clearly massive and Joseph is beginning to think it may be beyond him when he feels it begin to move ever so slowly. It picks up momentum and he finally manages to swing it to the side to reveal a long hallway, almost 100 yards long, with what appear to be hotel doors lining each side.

Down the hall, Joseph spots three figures, two men and a woman, all teens or young adults standing outside of one of the rooms. A fourth figure is near the end of the hallway and ducking out of sight through a hole in the wall. The three are maybe 90 feet away and guards have arrived and are waiting behind Dominique. They are carrying an assortment of weapons and Joseph heard someone mentioning Tasers and rubber bullets.


Vi and Justin…

While Reynolds is going on about his hopes of using his powers to simulate Spiderman, the huge door at the end of the hall swings open and makes a clanging sound. Framed in the door is a large man well over six feet tall with a statuesque woman standing next to him, large gun in hand. More guards can be seen behind the two and there is little doubt that they are here to stop the breakout.

Isn't that the girl who cornered you in the corridor a few days ago?

Yeah, that's Vi, alright. Funny, I just figured her for a bully, not the kind to get involved in something like this...

Mm...She has powers though, I'm almost certain of it.

How can you tell?

I can't say exactly. Just a feeling, like there's something I'm supposed to remember but just can't.


Cracking his knuckles, Joseph glanced at Dominique. "I'll soften them up for you, but I might miss the speedster, so be ready for that.

With that much said, Joseph gave another of his large leaps, though this one was held back enough to land him in the center of the three figures, his landing amplified by his fists
Dice Groundstrike:
1d20+17 (2)+17 Total = 19
smashing into the ground and sending a hard shockwave rippling out around him.

OOCVi, Justin and Reynolds need to make a trip check against the Groundstrike roll, DC 18 Reflex save to half the check. Failure means all of them fall prone.

Justin sees something emerge at the far end, with a retinue of several guards. "Oh that's just what I needed. Y'know what? Go away." Lightning arcs the length of the room aimed towards the big guy with enough force to cook him. He rapidly tries at the same time to loose some of the other doors, to add members to their side of the fight or at least sow additional chaos. Whatever the case, he did not want to find them outnumbered like this with such large adversaries.

OOC Pretty sure that's a success... since I halved the DC of the dex save.


Vielle glanced up at Joseph as he wandered in, "What the hell? Do you people EVER learn?" And then... Joseph hits the ground, sending a tremor through the area.

"****! I thought the supers were GONE!" she leans against the wall to keep her balance, before snarling angrily, and pushing herself off of it. "Ya know what...? Screw this let's see how well a Super manages to resist being vaporized..." She charges at Joseph, and her intention soon becomes clear... she's going to try and charge THROUGH Joseph, with her aura active! Whether she managed to melt right through him or not... the contact would be dangerous... maybe even fatal.

If it hits... that's a crit for corrosion:
DC 23 - Fort save against Toughness Drain
DC 28 Toughness Save
Then DC 18 Toughness Save ... 15 +2 for slam attack, then reflect the 1 damage to me from the attack back to Joseph for an extra +1 due to my immovable/unstoppable rank.
Effect Hits again every turn until I shut it off.
As a note: Corrosion effects are incurable.
I now have -2 Defense for this turn.

Justin lets loose with a blast of lightning at Joseph but it strikes the massive vault door right next to him. He also tries to short a door and allow whoever is behind it out to help them. The door crackles and smoke comes from the lock but he can't be sure he released it or fried it shut.

Reynolds looks up and his eyes practically leap out of his head when he spots Dominique. "Whoa! Who's the babe?" He gestures towards Joseph, Dominique and the guards and a mass of what looks like saran wrap appears...right behind them. "Oops! I must be out of practice..."

Dominique and one of the guards open fire. The guard misses Justin but Dominique's energy blast from her gun, which comes out as a pulse, slams into Vi.

OOCVi: Fortitude DC 21 or be stunned.


Justin and Reynolds all fall to the floor as it buckles beneath them, sending them sprawling.

Vi lies motionless on the floor after the blast strikes her.

OOCI had to do some research on halving the save DCs but it appears when you make a Reflex save (or any other) that reduces a resulting Save, it only halves the modifier, not the base 10+. So Joseph's DC 18 is 'halved' to DC 14. If anyone finds somehting different then PLEASE let us know.

Pulse hits Vi before. Autofire on the gun so DC increases by every two points over target's defense.

OOCIn any case, I discovered that my Immovable rank 3 grants a +12 (Or at least I THINK It's 12... It says +4, I'm not sure if that increases with rank.) bonus against Trip attacks, so in either case, I still dodged it. Also: Not sure if the pulse hits before or after I act... So I'm just gonna roll it here:

Dice Roll:
1d20+6 (11)+6 Total = 17


Also, that gun has Stun 11? Sheesh...

Justin finds himself in a nice spot on the floor, but doesn't let that stop him. He reaches to his vest and the knives are sent flying, but at the girl. If all Rocky could do was make them hit the deck, that wasn't much of a threat. That gun however looked extremely dangerous. He hoped at least one of the knives would catch the girl, hoping that he didn't accidentally kill her but that was always a threat. "Get out of here Reynolds, get out and regroup." As soon as Reynolds was clear, he'd be out of this building as well without a second thought. Vi could probably get out of here if bullets didn't hurt her as they seemed not to.

Joseph looked back and nodded thankfully at Dominique - that attack Vi had been charging up had looked like something he would rather not get hit if he could avoid it, healing factor or no. Unfortunately for Justin, he also saw the knives being flung towards her and more unfortunately, the superpowered man was standing right next to him.

"That's no way to treat a lady..." Joseph said simply, before pulling back his foot and sharply
Dice Power Attack (Dropping 3 attack bonus for three damage bonus) DC 26 Toughness save:
1d20+8 (8)+8 Total = 16
punting Justin off the ground and against the nearby wall before turning his attention to Reynolds. "Any chance you're smart and feel like taking this opportunity to give up?"

OOCAs always, Joseph is hitting for non-lethal damage...But non-lethal doesn't mean painless

The knives flicked through air in a blur but Dominique ducked and twisted around them, only losing a few strands of hair to the razor-sharp blades.

”Run? No way man, I’m not abandoning you!” Reynolds almost shouts back to Justin as he sends sheets of his patented cling wrap snare at Joseph. The strange clear wrap hits the wall and ceiling next to the strong man but does not catch him. ”Son of a…!” Reynolds grabs hold of Vi and starts to put her in a fireman’s carry.

Dominique fires another blast from her gun and squarely hits Reynolds but other than being a little staggered he remains standing. ”Hey! You don’t see me shooting anyone do you? Oww!”

The guard lets a burst loose at Justin and the bullets hit him, while Joseph punts him.

OOCJustin: Fortitude Save DC 20 or stunned from the rubber bullets. In addition to saving against Joseph’s attack. I’m not sure Justin’ save is high enough to succeed but roll for effect.


The door that Justin fried just a moment ago is thrown open and a whirlwind flies out into the hallway, the roaring sounds of the wind spinning at incredible speeds making shouting necessary to hear one another.

OOCVi can make a new Fortitude Save, DC 20 to shake the effects of her stun.

Leaving Justin to the guards, Joseph moved towards Reynolds with unnerving speed underlying his large frame and
Dice Attack Roll (DC 23 Toughness save):

threw a quick jab, his other hand coming up to
Dice Grapple Check (starts if attack hits):
1d20+17 (6)+17 Total = 23
grab him by the throat and lock him down.

Justin is nearly hit by some of the rubber bullets, but for once being flat on the ground is a good thing as the bullets all bounce around him harmlessly. Justin does however take a punting across the room, how far is anyone's to tell, but he's certainly not going to be happy.

OOC Justin has 18 defense against the 17 attack the guards made. The 16 is enough to beat his 10 though. (Melee / Ranged differences).
Dice Toughness:
1d20+3 (16)+3 Total = 19
Didn't figure a bulletproof vest helps much against being punted. Still kinda hurts. Failing by 7 = Bruised + Stunned.


"Ooof." Justin says as the wind is knocked out of him against some far structure, be it wall ceiling or otherwise. He hits the deck and looks back at the mountain in sheer rage. The room gains static as Justin suddenly realizes that he does not at all care whether or not the rest of the prisoners are freed. He freed the one that mattered, and two more besides. Coughing, in an obvious amount of pain, Justin seems to be gathering himself and unable to do anything besides raise the hairs on the back of people's necks.

Dominique and the guard fire desperately at the whirlwind but there does not appear to be a solid form inside and the shots pass through harmlessly.

Stunned, Justin can only watch as Joseph grabs Reynolds, which sends Vi tumbling to hit ground. Reynolds clutches at the much larger arm and hand around his throat but his strength doesn't come close. "Hey! Alright I surren...," Reynolds next words are cut off at the same time as his windpipe.

The whirlwind is suddenly over the center of the melee. Vi and Justin are swept up in the winds and Joseph feels himself growing lighter as his feet start to lift from the ground. Reynold's is suddenly clutching even harder to Joseph but as something to hang on to instead of fighting him off.

OOCJoseph: Make a Reflex Save, DC 16 to stay on his feet.

Everyone make a Fortitude Save, DC 18 (If the save fails, the target is sickened, suffering a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and checks. If the save fails by 5 or more, the target is nauseated, unable to do anything other than take a single move action each round. If the save fails by 10 or more, the target is helpless.) Joseph does not need to roll this if he makes his Reflex save.

Vi can make another Fortitude check DC 19 to recover from the stun.

What now...?

As the whirlwind spun around them, Jospeh's free hand formed into a fist and slammed into the wall beside him, giving him enough of an anchor to

prevent himself and Reynolds getting sucked into the initial burst of wind. He pulled his hand free, shaking the dust off of it and peered between Reynolds and the spinning whirlwind, as if trying to decide which to handle first.

Joseph, wait a sec...The guy with the lightning told this one to get out of here. Maybe this is who they came to break out, not the guy Hysteria was worried about.

What do you suggest?

He's surrendered. Leave him to the guards, we deal with these three.


Joseph looked up at Reynolds, his brow creasing rather menacingly. "Better stay surrendered, or I'll come back there and put you out of commission..." His grip tightened, cutting off Reynolds' air again. "Permanently."

With that, Joseph turned and Throwing as a move actionhurled Reynolds across the room so he crashed against the wall in front of Dominique. "Get him locked up, I can handle these three for a minute or two."

He turned his attention to the swirling whirlwind in front of them. "I'd make some witty quip about you being a bag of hot air but I doubt you'll hear me. So here, allow me to just give you and your playmates a round of applause..."

Aiming upwards at the whirlwind, Justin and Vi, Joseph smashed his hands together, the shockwave creating small cracks along the hallway walls before Using the Shockwave feat of Superstrength - DC 23 Toughness save. Succeeding on a DC 18 Reflex save lowers the Toughness to DC 19colliding with the wind and two swirling supers.

The shockwave doesn't seem to do much to Vielle, the whole shockwave seemingly absorbed by her body... But she still wasn't going anywhere...
