Dragon's Eye

…. The chaos of the Stygian abyss seems to subside for a brief moment. Giant orbs of green and blues, browns and oranges seem to float in the sky. An orb full of fire burns the brightest.
Standing on a beach, the water turns a vibrant purple, the clouds part and the orbs can bee seen dancing among the stars. A shaft of light shooting from the heavens, hits a great mountain in the distance. All sound seems to fade, the mountain bulges for an instance, then nothing. The mountain from within seems to give birth to all the fires of heaven and hell at once. A blinding light engulfs the spot where the mountain once stood. A wave in the distance is seen, it grows larger as it gets closer. From the place where the mountain once stood you see a glowing pillar of light, a dragon is born and dies in an instance its soul feeds the pillar and all is lost as the wave of destruction engulfs your form. …
You awake. The dream is not new to you. It has been with you since you entered the ancient crypt and found the thief making off with the 3 rings of an arch wizard. You hold one of the rings in your hand now, although you have not put it on yet, you believe it would fit your half orc fingers, strange since the mage was elf…

Dazed from the dream, Jet'al looks around, trying to remember where he is.

You are sitting in a bed. Your sheets are soaked, the faint smell of salt and fire fills the air for a brief second when you awake. Your possessions are on placed in the room; you reach down and feel the warmth of your sword. The sounds and smells and memories of the town you are in start to flood back into your brain so fast it hurts.
Smoke, the smell of smoke still hangs heavy in the room. . .
Canal city …no… you’re just outside canal city in a small hamlet wedged between 2 valleys. You remember a male’s voice, “3 more days travel to Canal City” … but why did you want to go there? The mountain, the pillar, the flames engulfing you… your brain still groggy and half in a dream screams until you wake.
Smoke drifts in under your door, an orange flickering light seems to cast shadows on your window. . .

Warmth, and smoke. So nice. Warm sword. Isn't it usually cool? SMOKE!?

Jet'Al tosses the damp sheets aside and rolls out of bed and onto the floor. He stuffs the damp sheets under the door to stop the smoke. Then he grabs his gear, which is packed and ready to travel. Did he do that? He tosses his pack and weapons out the window and onto the cool grassy field outside. From the cool air drifting in, he realizes just how warm it is in here. He looks out the window to see if he could get out that way.

Was he alone? There was a man's voice in his dreams. He shouts,
"Is anyone here?"

You quickly stuff the sheets under the door and running to the window you manage to grab your gear. You must have been tired last night, everything is still packed. Seconds seem to become minuets, you look out side. Sure enough there is a cool grassy field outside, it just happens to be across the street and down 2 stories from where you are. (There is a thin (4”x8”) timber with roof supports attached to it outside your window, there are people below you.)
You can see people forming a fire bucket chain.
People run from the burning inn, you hear snippets of frantic conversations from outside. “…. not here!?!?”, “….find…”, “get back!”, "another one..."
You hear the creaking of a support timber as it starts to give way somewhere in the inn.
A scream echoes from somewhere.
A muffled sound is heard outside your door.
The floor is warm under your boots.

I look down, out the window. I could probably clime down that, but I'd rather not. Then I hear the muffled voice. I might have time. I feel the aged wood door, it's warm, but not hot. . I grab the damp sheet and hold it to my mouth, trying to filter some of the smoke out. Crouching down, I open the door and look out.

Opening the door (it opens into your room by the way). . . you’re on the second floor there is a railing in front of you and stairs down the hallway to your left. The fire seems to have engulfed the main bar/lobby area (although you can’t be sure as of yet). And a thick black smoke fills the rafters. About to walk out your room, you stop when you see the fire glinting off a long sword.
The muffled voice is clearer now. “They said he was in the room top of the stairs and all the way to the left!” someone says in the low guttural voice. “You fool, were at the wrong door, that one is all the way to the right! Quickly now, we have no time”.
The two start to run down the hallway towards your room.
At the same time you hear the sound of a little girl screaming down the stairs, and one support timber gives way threatening to collapse the far wall.

Instantly regretting tossing my weapons into the cool grassy field, I think about options. I have no doubt I could get away, but what about that girl? It takes but a few seconds thought before I dash out and down the stairs, looking and listening for the stranded woman or girl. I'm also keeping an eye out for a weapon, perhaps on the wall or laying on the floor, even a broken board or railing that could be a usable club.

[ooc/] And thin I spot on, It's the inn keeper's famous +10 Orcish Vorple Sword of Glory!

(ooc - Hope yeh got the great map)
You dash out of your room and quickly survey your area. Running down the hall you see the two Orcs!
(The Orcs are dressed in the summer’s latest orcish fashions) The orcs are dressed all in black covering most of their true identity.
You can see armor plating strapped to the front part of their boots and the sides of their arms. You assume by the way the material of their chest is stretched that they might have some armor there as well. The orc in back (well call it orc2 is wielding a wicked looking battle ax (wicked only because the up keep on it has left large sharply filed pits on the blade that give it a serrated look). Orc 1 appears to have been the one who called orc 2 a fool, it is wielding a large sword. The firelight off its blade apears to be a slight green color.
Orc 1 is just turning around and coming when you hear the scream. Orc 2 is looking in the last room down the hall, its ax is wet with blood and gleams a red color in the fire light. Orc 2 has just come out of the room and is about to follow orc 1 when you hear the scream.
Down below you see the inn on fire, the stairs lie about half way between you and the orcs. A bar is downstairs and sure enough you do see a weapon above it! It’s a large war hammer. . .
You have the vague remembrance of a large man working behind that counter. Your eyes moved from him to the war hammer, briefly you wondered if there might be some giant blood in this fellow. “Ah yes Zanfair, me ole hammer from me adventuring days. That weapon has pulled me out of a lot of bad times, just ye go starting something and you’ll see what I mean” he says with a slight smile in his eyes that makes you relax and laugh with him.
You quickly run towards the stairs.
(ok the orc 1 will be at the stairs at the same time you are, orc 2 will show up soon after. The only weapons you see around are the great zanfair, and a multitude of boards holding up the railings. Orc 1 dose not seem quite ready to ingage someone as of yet, although that might change by the time he reaches the stairs.)
You realize the orcs are here for you…on the plus side they might just want to chat a bit, maybe get to know you and invite you back to their place for a quick snack...

Have to ask..wheres the ring?

[ooc] the ring is in my belt pouch, probably with all my equipment I tossed out the window. By the way, I think I lost that frozen orb in the last adventure. didn't I toss it into an ooze. Also, I don't know how much exp I should have from that little thing, (if any sense I didn't complete it). I'm used to writing in the 3rd person for my other games, it takes getting use to speaking in 1st person. I did that because I didn't want to get my characters confused. I'm playing to very strong half-orcs. My other is a monk. he is kind of dumb and way more of a pacifist than Jet'Al. Jet'Al's pacifism consists of a warning before he attacks.

[more ooc] Before I act, can I jump over the railing and bypass the stairs? How far is the drop? Could I land on a table and only take subdule damage, if any? Is there a rug I could pull out from under them? How bad is the smoke in here, can I breathe for the next few minutes at least? Does it look like the fire will kill us all in less than 30 seconds, or do we have a few minutes yet? I can roll knowledge:fire if you like. Here,

Dice Roll:
(as this is an older post, these rolls are interpreted by the older (more basic) dice roller code)
d20+2: (4) + 2 Total = 6

[ooc] im kind of just forgetting about the plot points in the last adventure and starting you after it with the main items you would have gotten. As far as the orb is concerned …I honestly don’t remember it :P.

Don’t worry about the exp, it will flow at first depending on all your actions. The dream is the main quest and will take you far. There will be a lot of side quests, running around and some things you wont be able to figure out quite yet. The dreams will keep coming though.

The drop is about 10-15 feet. You could aim for a table and just take some light bruising damage if you make the dex check. No rug unfortunately but you do have the drop on them and if you engage you get auto first strike.
As for the fire, I don’t think your character has been in a fire this large, its pretty scary. Lots of smoke and heat. Thinks cracking and bits of the building crumbling. And the added stress of two armed orcs and a screaming girl somewhere down on the bottom floor.
The ceiling is pretty high up so the smoke is not to large of a problem for you as of yet. Also the damp sheet on your mouth helps some. You don’t have a long time to spend in here, and as you know, the smoke will usually kill you before the fire does.
In about 2 turns there will be a constitution roll…er…fortitude. I think… to see how you’re doing with the smoke and heat and what not.

Hope that helps 

I run out, heading for the stairs. As soon as I see the orcs, I stop and back up some. There is no way I can beat the one to the stairs. I glance over the railing, Hmm not too far down. I take a few more steps backwards, lining me up with a table down below. I shout at the orcs, (in their language),

"You two looking for me? What is it you want! Now is not a good time!"

[ooc]My basic plan is to first find out if they have hostile intent. Then, assuming they do, try to get them to come to me. When they are close, I'll jump over the railing, land on the table and land, cat-like, onto the floor and instantly run toward the hammer and screams. This way, if they jump down after me, at least they will be behind me. If I can overturn the table, and they still jump down, they will also possibly take some damage which would help me. If they go down the stairs, I'll be ahead of them by at least the distance of the stairs. I'll probably go for the hammer first, while trying to figure out who is screaming. Right now I assume somebody is trapped or has broken legs so they can't escape. I figure I have to deal with the orcs first.

Did you see I gave you 5 xp points for being cool? Did you see the PM I sent you?
