Saying the whip is gimped is like saying all range weapons and spell casters are gimped. Yes its limited. A Long sword is limited compared to many weapons but it does not make a long sword a utility weapon by any means. As long as the foes are between 10-15 feet it makes a great melee weapon compared to a long sword. Especially considering you can get whips that do lethal damage to boot. Think of it..a +3 holy undead bane mighty whip dagger and three attacks...your slaying or damaging undead/evil baddies before they can get near you and anyone that comes in close gets hit by your big powerful sword.. In short you just have to know how and when to use the weapon. I mean you don't keep firing arrows when guys are within striking distance do you? With the whip you dont have to drop the bow and pull out the sword which causes an AOO if they are close. Personally i could make a fairly wicked character who did a whip and say a second weapon, i would probably have it be a theif for a nice 15 foot sneak attack when i get em. A warrior would be sweet just keeping foes back or dealing damage to them before they get close. Hell i could make a wicked whip wielding mage who channels touch attacks through the whip... Back when we talked about feat swapping i said that when you level you can feat swap. This is to keep you or any player from dynamically changing their character every combat. "Oh im going to use my great sword now so i switch out feats 1, 2, 3, and 4 for [Insert 4 feats that make the great sword rock]. Anyway ive unfortunately used up my time responding to you so i probably wont be able to post game stuff for a day or two. As i said in the other game i have alot to do and not alot of time to do it. As Larkin removes the arrows I look at them. "Just two arrows? They nearly killed me? How the hell did two arrows hurt so damn bad? I'd like to see the bow he was using." Just then, the lady holds up her "mouse". I look at it. Looks like a normal mouse to me. "How did you know..." I pause and remember who I'm speaking to. "Ah, right. What are you going to do with it? Ah, nevermind, I don't think I want to know. Thank you for you assistance and I am sorry I wasn't more help." As if to make my point, I look over at the dead horses. I curse the bandits and spit on the ground and dig out my cure stick. It was expensive, and at this rate it will be used up by morning. I awkwardly hold it to my back and activate it Dice Cure light wounds:
I offer the healing stick to anyone else who may want it. "Lets be off before they come back for their little mage friend." I help gather the supplies from the horses and take anything of obvious value off the few dead bandits. Then I continue my journey to the goblin camp. I play the fight over in my mind, and just can't figure out how I failed so badly. A single opponent and he evaded my breath, avoided my trip with ease and hit me so hard I could have gone into shock and died right there, with a bow no less! On top of that, he got away without any effort at all. No, he was no common bandit. He was either a very experienced bandit or he was a pro attacking us with some ulterior motive. Either way, I'm glad he's gone, for now. Watches will be set tonight, though I bet he could just puff in and kill me anyway. Bah! I spit on the ground again, this time with a little fire in it and try to push such thoughts from my mind. |

3rd time ive tried to type this for yeh..
Ok.. Larkin removes the arrows and uses the wand on the wounds. "Just a lucky shot i guess boss' yes says. Lucky shot you think..some dam bad luck on your part. Still you have seen larkin and even the theifs your traveld with get some lucky shots. Usually it was when the other guys were supprised or flanked, or at some disadvantage. Bah..theifs you think.. YOu see the ladies mouse collection and at once feel bad for the mage and whoever else is traped in her cage. You feel a bit uneasy. Here she is a evil dragon traveling with you. You saw her weapon..it seemd to drain the mages life into it..and now the mice cage..still you find solace in the fact that you did not double cross her..still you wonder what the repurcussions of traveling with her will be.. You all head off and after a unevventfull few hours you find a place to camp. You sit there on guard duty and wonder about the theif..was he just a simple highway man or was he trying to bring you down..perhapse even trying to test your defences to see if you had a chink in them. . From a stategic point of view you dont thik he will attack tonight. You have his mage after all and that has to be quite a blow to his forces. Obviously the mage was his trump card for the battle. The lady was yours. You smile some as you look back at the camp fire. After a little bit you hear some movements in the sparce woods infront of you. You look through them and watch as a small pack of large wolfs comes in to sight. Two large dire wolfs lead the pack through the woods almost silently. They see you and one of the wolfs snarls lowly. The dire wolfs make no sound as they walk twoards your location. You start to stand up and reach subconsiously for your weapon but stop when one of the dire wolfs transforms itself into a small half elf. 'Tau' she says as the other wolfs stand close by, 'the one you seek is lost to us.' you are about to speak and she continues with a shake of her head, 'we cannot find her Tau' she turns her head and listens to what you have to say before she turns back into a dire wolf and leads the pack silently away. You sit down and think about what that means while the sun rises. The next day you head out and after an uneventful time traveling you make it to the goblin camp...the cheif stands there as you enter.. |

ooc - Wait? Can we RP a little with the dragon lady? I mean you set it up and all, seems a wast to just skip past it.
__________________------------------------------------ I ponder the "lucky" strikes. Even if I catch a guy just standing there, not defending, and I take all the time in the world to shoot him in the back critically, I just do not think I could do the same amount of damage. There was more than luck. I make a mental note, for what that is worth, to be more careful around thieves and stealthy types in the future. I realize my mistake was rushing into the smoke. Somehow, he got out and took advantage of my temporary blindness to strike. He was also nimble, so instead of tripping him, I probably should have just gone for raw damage. I'll bet a guy that mobile and who hits that hard can dish it but can't take it. I look at the mouse mage and consider what I'm doing with her. I made a mistake offering up her baby, I admit that as much. So I see her point of view, traveling with me. It is logical. Still, it is clear her philosophy is counter to mine. She catches me watching her. We let it go. In the morning, druids or werewolves approach, I'm not sure which. Either way, they don't attack so I'm relieved. They speak and leave, leaving no room for discussion or sharing a breakfast of horse meat and grain stew - yummy. They can't find Gwen then. Unfortunate. I wonder if she's dead. She was old. I catch the lady watching me as I ponder these things, sipping my cold leftover stew. I speak to her, "It is a pity really, you and I. I very much like your son, and you are beautiful, majestic, and pleasant to be around. It is a pity you and I follow conflicting points of view. How long do you think we can circle each other like this? How long can we ignore our differences? Are we destined to fight one day? I can tell you it saddens me to think of that." I look down at the mage, as if to site an example of our differing philosophies. Who knows if he deserves what she's going to do, or even deserves what she's already done. Kill him or free him, don't torment the poor fellow. |

You sit down with the lady and speak to her. She listens and smiles as you speak.
'Tau, it is true we have a difference in opinion about some matters, a conflicting point of view if you will. She looks over at the cage of mice which hangs in a tree, 'Perhaps you would rather i let the mage go so that he can continue his plotting or perhaps you would rather i kill him and be done with it' shes thoughtful for a moment, 'Perhaps there is some wisdom in either option, still if i let him go he will strike back harder next time, if i simply kill him i will learn nothing from him.' she pokes the fire with a stick, 'perhaps he was a tool of a enemy of mine or even yours. Maybe Janis still wishes to pay you back for the death of her black.' she pauses, 'You search for this Gwen and Zef' How did she know? your about to say something and then you sigh, of course she knows..you have been traveling with her the better part of a week. Its come up once or twice. she continues,' she looks into the fire, 'Do you really think those bandits, a mage of the dark towers of Yeshpek on the lake of steam, a 6th order thief of Manshaka, and a small troop of elite Yallasch archers' she pokes again and tosses you a badge from the archers arm, its black with the outline of a crimson skull with three arrows through it (two arrows form an X and the last arrow pierces the top of the head and goes through the neck). 'did you know janis is also looking for this Zef? she drives the point home She pauses and eats some of the stew 'We may fight someday Tau, we may find that our differences can no longer be ignored, that the usefulness we find in each others company has run its course.' She smiles and looks at you, 'I for one am in no hurry to test myself against your blade' she eats some more and stands up to stretch, 'Perhaps your right though, if the mage has some knowledge you may need..perhaps you should be the one to ask' She reaches into the cage and pulls out the mouse by the tail and drops it into your hand, 'Remove the string that's around its neck and he will transform back' she says |

"I agree with you, to a point. That point is your reading of the future. You seem sure that this mage will respond with anger or evil if you show him kindness and let him go. For you, it is a fact. For me, I'm not so sure. It is easy to respond to aggression with more aggression, but that doesn't make it right.
__________________Say we let him go because we think enough blood has been spilled today. Maybe he'll re-think his methods. Maybe he'll even do us a good turn later. The truth is I don't know and I'm not sure it is right to judge a man on his potential future actions. This mage attacked me, tried to kill me. I defended myself, and would have killed him if I had to. Now, however, he's no longer attacking me. Do I still kill him, or allow him the chance to leave in peace?" I think on this, for I agree with her more than I feel I should. I want nothing more than to just kill all my enemies. Cut a path to victory in blood. Is that right though? I think she suspects my difficulty in believing my own words. I look over to Larkin and Grayfare. Both enemies by appearances, but now allies I trust. Grayfare due to magic, but I wonder just how powerful such magic can be. Could that arrow have really changed him that much permanently? My guess is it was temporary, and he's seen it fit to side with me now, seen the error of his ways as it were. I take the offered cage with the mouse-mage in it. I look at the lady, and feel like a mouse myself, being played with by a cat. Fricken dragons! "So, a mage of the dark towers of Yeshpek on the lake of steam. Sounds impressive. I'd like to know why you attacked me? Who sent you, and if you plan on attacking me again. I should kill you for trying to kill me and for killing my horses. You owe me for those, at the very least. My friend here has given you to me to deal with, kind soul that she is, and I don't take prisoners." I look up at her and am about to ask her if he can understand me in his mouse form, but don't. "And I don't kill folks unless they force me too." I open the cage, ready my chain and untie the string around his neck and toss the mouse into the center of all of us, making sure Larkin is behind it. You speak your part and then to the mouse. The others get into positions to strike him down if he makes a move. The lady for her part takes a seat on a log and continues eating her stew while watching with what you can only assume is great amusement for a dragon.
you speak to the mage hoping he can hear you and then you take off the string. Nothing happens for a moment, the mouse runs arround some and then all at once it starts to grow and change as the magic, which grayfare mentioned should have worn off hours ago, leaves. All at once the mouse is a mage again. He turns and looks at the lady, glares, and then looks at you. You repeat your questions and he smirks some before saying, 'I worked for Timon the bandit who you saw flee, we were traveling to the trade routes south of here and thought you three would be easy marks' he smiles, 'Ooops' he says with his hands out some' |

I scowl at him. "Easy marks. You think you are the holy cock-on-the-throne himself that you can just take what you like from others as you please? The world owes you does it? Times so rough for a Mage of the Dark Towers of Yeshpek that you can't make an honest living. You have to kiss the boots of a goblin-rutting cowardly bandit?"

He smirks at you, 'Yes, easy marks.' he pauses, 'as in wont put up any sort of measurable fight' he continues sarcasticaly. You step up and growl at him but have the feeling that you sounded more like a bafoon than a mennance.
'Owe you for your horses?' he says a bit 'now whos robbing who here?' he rolls his eyes when he does not get any laughs. 'Look, Timon kept all the money on account, if you want your gold you will need to go talk to him. Problem is that as ive been captured he wont be at our meeting place. So im afraid your out of luck on being paied back for anything.' he pauses and tosses a ring to you, 'Still if you can find a pawn shop you should get enough money from that to pay for your horses' He looks at the lady and says, 'Sorry lady for trying to make some money to feed my children' the lady laughs, 'Think nothing of it, im sure it is quite difficult a task for you' she says with a sardonic tone in her voice. You look at her and see in her eyes that she thinks this man is a joke, you wonder what game she plays at..why does she tolerate al this..why does she not simply eat this mage.. |

I look at his ring and pocket it. "You seem like a smart man without a lick of common sense. A lot of good you'll be to your children dead and you dishonor them by reducing yourself to common thievery. Your other...friends..." I pause at the word, letting it sink in that they may not be the best friends to have. "Have left you. As I can't ask them to re-pay what they have cost me, I ask you. Why can't a mage of your obvious quality not earn enough money to care for his family? Surely your talents could earn you enough gold to be comfortable? Is it that you enjoy taking from others. Do you enjoy taking money from other's who are just trying to feed their children? Do you enjoy spilling the blood of unsuspecting innocents?"
__________________I wave off the question as if it doesn't matter. "I suggest you use that gray matter you've been gifted with." I poke his forehead with my thick scaled finger. "To evaluate your life choices. What are your goals and why? Do your choices feel right to you?" I pause a bit to let him think for a moment. In truth I too am considering my next move. "My name is Tau and I am a Dragonborn of Bahamut. I am searching for a friend of mine who was taken. Unlike your friends, I do not abandon mine." For long anyway. Guilt creeps into my mind, but I push it away. "Would you like to repay your debt to me by traveling with us? Greyfare, how much time could you hire a mage for the cost of what we lost today?" When Grayfare answers, I say, "There now. How does that sound? You wish to join up with us, earn honest money and set a better example for your children?" |

You speak of morality and the likes to the mage and he seems to listen. You then speak your name and as if for the first time he looks up at you. His eyes move over you like hes dicecting you and then he nods, 'Yes..yes i would like to have a better future for my family and kids. A honest livving would set a better exsample im sure'
you hesitate and see the lady standing up. She walks over to the mage and smiles, 'Well then, welcome to our little party' she smiles and turns to you. 'Now then Tau, if your quite done with mouse here, we should be going' |

ooc - my post rate may slow for a bit as I've taken on two new games. They both are starting now and both require me to make characters and such so it is more time than I really have at the moment. Once they get going, I should be back to bugging you to post.
__________________--------------- I reach out to shake the mage's hand and say, "Good then. Your name?" I wonder if he can be believed, but then again I don't really care. I'm already traveling with a white dragon, how much worse can this mage be? What was it someone said once, keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer. Was that what Lady Gilirax is doing I wonder. At the Lady's prompting I nod my agreement. To the new mage, "You've got it easy, I kept Grayfare tied up for a week." We pack up and continue on to the goblins. I whisper to Larkin, "Keep an eye on the new guy, I trust him about as much as I trusted you when we met. I only hope he is half as capable and honorable as you've been." Eventually we reach the goblins again. Greetings are made and the dealing is at hand. "I have brought you the maps and information you wanted, and have done one better. This is lady Gill. She knows the white dragon like no other and has spent more time studying the lair than any one I know. She will know where the young one is and when it is vulnerable. More importantly, she knows the habits and whereabouts of the mother. She has agreed to help you and thus help me, for she too wants my friend found. Now then, what do you have to trade for my information and the service of this valuable guide? As I said before, I'm looking for the fellow you sold the girl and old woman druid to. His name, and how and were I can find or contact him, perhaps even help arraigning a meet." |

'You' he pauses, 'Can call me Sam'
You can see from larkin and grayfare that they think this is a bad idea but they say nothing at the moment. You tell larkin to keep an eye on him and he simply nods. You move on. Lady Gilirax chats along the way ignoring sam and when she does refer to him she simply calls him mouse. You reach the goblin village and speak to the goblin leader. You hand him the maps and he says, 'Maps and the lady Gill will be most helpful' he smiles greedidly. 'Now then for you and your information' he pauses and licks his lips, 'Goblin named Chee has a boat and trades with us. We give him animals and he gives us gold and gems. We sold the old gnome to him. We sold the young girl to him also along with a dog.' he pauses, He was here three weeks ago and told us no more, no more will he trade and if he finds we capture aniamls anymore the mothers vengence will be on us' he pauses and quickly licks his tounge across his dry lips. 'he said he check on us but not tell when' he pauses and looks at you, 'our deal done now, you go and Lady Gill and us hunt the baby dragon' he looks at her, 'she does not look like a hunter of dragons..' he looks back at you and the maps, 'how can i trust you keep your word' Lady Gilirax speaks up, 'Dont worry, in addition to knowing the dragons wareabouts i think i might have something for you to do for me personally as well' you dont like the sound of that but theres no time to ask. You look arround a bit disapointed, this chee fellow is gone and may not come back. the whole bit about the mothers vengence though sounds like something gwen would say. You concentrate on the ring and on Zef and feel nothing but pain through the link. You wonder what you will do now. You wonder about the gate spell and if grayfare could open a gate to Zef using the ring..he said it was dangrous but.. |

What a crap deal, I think to my self. Gwen has somehow stopped this animal poaching ring, but in doing so she's cut off my only lead. I nod to the goblin. "A pleasure. Not really, and my tone says as much.
__________________I turn to the lady Gilirax and say, "I had hoped for more. I'm back to where I was before I left. Well, lady, until we meet again. Good hunting." I bring Sam and Grayfare over and ask about the gate spell and the ring. "Can two mages do it better than one? What do we need to do this? Would anything these goblins have help, perhaps old blood from the cages they used to capture them or something?" I don't care if trusting Sam is a good or bad idea. Sam is on the wrong path, and if I can lead him towards a better one, then I'll try. It is a risk, but anything worth doing is often risky. Just like this gate spell. |

Lady Gilirax nods and smiles, 'You as well Tau, perhapse in better times we can continue our seemingly ongoing conversation on morality?' she pauses as if about to say something profound but instead says, 'Were not so diffrent you and i. I used to think the way you do once. The world is harsh and cold though and those who do not find ways of sheltering themselves from it die an untimly death' she walks off to talk to the goblin and you shudder to think of what fate holds for him and wonder what she means..
Grayfare seems hesitant but says, 'Its possible that two mages working together will beable to hone the spell to the spot better. We would need the ring though as its a link to Zef. Still not having ever been to ..' Sam cuts him off, 'Tau, it should not be a problem really, with the ring as a link i can zero in on her location easily enough, and from there its just a matter of opening up a gate spell to her location' he smiles. |
