You about to do something when a fireball as bright as a shooting star blazes past you, the heat causing you to instinctivly sheild your face. Then a series of explosions from above. The ground trembles with each hit of the metorites and you see huge amounts of debreis from the clif starting to fall. You look up above you and see the huge elemental turning arround, a metorite strikes it in the chest and it takes a step twoards the cliff. Another hits the ground and another..then you have the feeling of falling..you realize its not you though..the whole cliff face is collapsing under the bombardment... You try to fly out from under it but are not quick enough..You scrabble up onto a rock climbing around enough to gain some purchase. The elemental which is falling with you sees you and grabs you! Its huge hands made of granite, dirt, clay, and plants squeezes. you glance down and see you dont have long before you hit the bottom and are crushed. |

I wonder what is going on. Was this mess because of Sam, Grayfare, or both? I don't know and I don't have time to worry about it. I struggle to get free but it is like struggling against a mountain. I force a huge boulder thumb to move and I feel it budge slightly. Then, quite suddenly it is free, blasted off by a flaming meteor. I take the opportunity to wiggle free. I tuck in my wings and leap off one of the stone fingers, using my armor's launch ability to send up soring up through one of the holes in the cliff above. If I time it just right, I may be able to get above this falling mess. Last edited by Still_Pond; 02-27-2011 at 11:27 PM. |

Nice rolls man!
You fall and struggle. rocks hit you in the head as the elemental tries to smash you into something. At one point you look up and see a streaking metorite falling down twoards you, you leverage yourself against a falling boulder and push the elementals hand into the buring rock. In that moment you free yourself, run up the elementals arm and spring into the air. The elemental tries to grab for you and although it misses it does knock some rocks into your way. You quickly use sprint up the rock and again dive up into the air letting your wings pull you away from the mass of stone and earth. You strain as the effort to do so, beads of sweat pour down your face as you hear the first concophony roar of things hitting the river bellow. Just then when you think all might be lost you manage to make your way through the mass of rock and dirt to the open air, you work your wings hard and push yourself to your limit while dodging metorites from above. Just then a large explosion shoots out arround you, you keep flying as it turns to mist and falls back into the river. You manage a look bellow and see part of the river is now dammed and the earth elemental is no more. You fly up to the cliff face again using thermals to help your accent. After a moment or two you find grayfare and larkin in the woods. You glide silently to them and land near by. Walking up to them you feel the ache of the past half hour of fighting and being tossed arround. your wings have had quite a work out and your sure they will be sore in the morning. Larkin is the first to see you and gives a bird call. you laugh a bit as you walk forward realizing it was a call of a crow and you doubt those live here. Grayfare swivvels a small light twoards you and looks releived. 'Im sorry about that, i thought for sure you would be out of the way..' you nod and sit down. Larkin brings out some food and you sit and ponder about what to do now. You do not have zef's ring or your old ring that you were using to feel zef. Sam has it now and is hunting her, you ponder what to do. 'Im sorry..' you look up at grayfare, 'this whole thing did not work out the way i had planned' he looks uncomfortable. 'I ment to tell you about janis before but did not have the courage to do so. Maybe i was still thinking about her offer' he shakes his head as larkin cleans something with a large kobold boneing knife 'I chose to tel you when i opend the gate as a way to gain your trust again as i felt i had betrayed it' he looks at the ground for a moment, 'Im sorry, it wont happen again..i..' he stammers some You thinkabout his words some. perhapse its another trick..perhapse not though..he has had many opprotunites to betray you to the highest bidder but has stood by you through thick and thin. Sure his timing with the last spell could have been better..but still if sam was watching he may think your dead now and no longer a threat..whatever the case its clear the mage is conflicted and ashamed at what he proceives as a slight against you.. |

I nod to Grayfare. "When I shot you with that arrow, I figured the magic would wear off. Maybe it has, maybe it hasn't. Point is, I can't live my life worrying about when my friends will betray me. Friendship and loyalty is something folks like Janis can't offer, or even understand. I'll tell you what I told Sam, you always have choices. Sam has made his it seems."
__________________I think on that for a bit, "Maybe I was wrong to give him room to harm us. Maybe I should have killed him when he was a mouse. Then again, if I thought like that, you and Larkin would be dead." I chuckle and append my last statement, "Well, maybe. That was some hellish fire-rock spell back there, and Larkin and his "lucky" hits." I roll my eyes and shake my head out of respect. They are both formidable opponents. I take the healing wand and zap myself with it a Dice Healng:
I hand back the wand to whoever needs it. "Are you conflicted, Grayfare? Do you feel loyalty to both Janis and myself? Do you feel she should be the one to attain the Dragon's Eye? Am I wrong to oppose her?" I ask with genuine sincerity, and without threat of violence if he gives me a "wrong" answer. I want the truth, and I won't blame him one way or the other. he listens to you. 'i never trust sam, lady Gilirax's words rang true with me' you continue talking and he nods some. he seems somber and happy at the same time, 'She offered me power, gold, and items. She offerd me ancient secrets and a place by her side in the years to come' he pauses, 'she offered me everything except companionship and trust'
larkin looks at him, 'in the end i guess i realize i would give up all the rest just for those two simple things.' he shrugs and continues eating "if what you told me about the items is true then she would use them to remake the world in the name of tiamat' larkin looks up, 'What do you mean?' Grayfare continues, 'well shes working for tiamat right, so she will use the item to make this world tiamats realm' Larkin looks confused and simply says, 'Tiamats dead though, was slain 2000 years ago or so' then takes a bite both you and grayfare look at him and he swollows his bite, 'I thought you guys knew. She was killed by a warrior during the dragon wars, Gilgem the god slayer i think is what they called him' he pauses, 'after her body was slain the gods pelor and bahamut banished and trapped her soul to someplace in the nine hells.' 'dead then?' grayfare says, Larking shrugs, 'well cant manafest on the material plane sort of dead i guess' Grayfare, 'So what would janis want wih...' he cuts himself off mid sentence as you see realization come across his face Indeed..now the pieces fall into place...janis plans to use the power of the dragon eye artifact to resurrect the banished god Tiamat! ooc - Ya, I kinda knew that already....but good to repeat it.
__________________--------- I say, "Exactly. Trouble is, I'm not sure it was right to kill and banish Tiamat in the first place." I say a small prayer of "please don't eat me" to Bahamut. "What if it was Bahamut who lost the fight 2000 years ago, and it was I who was trying to use the Dragon's eye to bring him back into power? Would I be wrong to do it? I guess it comes down to balance. Are we not out of balance with Tiamat gone?" I think for a bit and smile as a piece falls into place in my mind. "Sam has shown me something. Good people have a weakness - we must extend trust to others. Evil people can do whatever they like to achieve their goals. It would have been safer for me to just kill Sam, and I would have were we still fighting. It is different once the battle is over. There is a fine line between honorable battle and murder, and at times I'm not sure there is much of a difference. All I know is the world seems bloody well balanced even with Tiamat gone. There is still evil aplenty." I pause a bit. It is nice to sit in relative safety, but I know we must press on. The others know it too. "I'd love to debate good and evil with you, but I've had enough of that from Lady Gilrax for a while. We need to find Zef. Sam has my ring, so he can find her, but hopefully so can I." I pull out my map and the ring that goes with it and concentrate on Zef's ring. I want to see if it works a bit better on this plane. "Sam is a lucky son-of-a-kob...er...ooze." I give Larkin an apologizing look and continue. "How can we fight him and win next time? I always thought the best way to kill a mage was to get in close and wrap a spiked chain around his neck. It is getting in close that is tricky. Ideas? |

Yeh forgot i repeated some of that to you. Did not think i said tiamat was dead in body but not spirt though..ah well..
You speak of balance and the wrong and right of it all. grayfare shakes his head, 'Shes the queen of evil though Tau, she would seek to enslave the entire polulus, kill all that oppose her, and turn this world into her play thing. ' larkin intruupts, 'You both are starting to sound like Gwen' he laughs some, 'If you go into a forest and burn all the trees eventually more will come back. If you build the strongest tower and leave it be eventually it will crumble. Everything falls twoards chaos' he pauses, 'Tiamat is the goddess of chaos, of entropy, decay, distruction. Bahamaut is the rebirth he is order..they are the embodiment of concepts and in the end we have to do what we think is right for ourselves. i for one have read about the horrible things that happend in the world when she was arround. Shes been gone for a while now and i say good riddience.' he spits on the ground Grayfare looks at him, 'Larking, never knew you had the heart of a poet' Larkin smiles 'thought of being a bard once' he shrugs. You pull out the map and look at it. After a moment a map starts to magically draw itself..this world is comprised of several islands and some places that seem to be even hidden by the map. You look at it carefully and see a few dots on it. Ring locations you realize. One is far to the north, two are to the south east of a large city. Having no ring you have no idea where you are but you surmise its close to the two ring locations. You zoom the map in as best as you can and match up the river with the one you just came out of. Yes..sam is moving..zef is not..you use your skills with maps and realize sam should be close to the edge of the pyramid..You smile inwardly.. 'Sam is a lucky...' you comment..the others ponder for a bit..'I like your spiked chain solution boss' larkin says inbetween bites. Grayfare smiles, 'He can polymoph, perhapse if we could cancel the magic in his area we would stand a better chance. i can do this but it would mean that entering the zone would also cancel any magic we had.' the implications are obvious..a zone of no magic is not picky and effects everyone inside. 'Boss, Sam used us, knew you would not kill him and allowed himself to be captured. That whole fight was a ruse just to get close and get zef. Hes going for her as fast as he can' he pauses, 'I say we get to her first. Maybe give him his knife back' he takes out the knife that sam stabbed grayfare with and with a flick of his wrist sinks it into a stump of a tree with a thwack Grayfare nods, 'Perhapse a dual assalt then? Make sam think we are behind him when were really infront of him.' he pauses, 'Larkin, do you have any more of those jump stones?' Larkin smiles and nods. Jump stones..it takes you a moment and then you remember the vortex..larkin threw a rock at the archer and suddnely appeared next to him. Now..how to do this.. |

"I remember you saying that, Larkin. Remind me to have you include some verse when I submit my papers to the Royal Explorer's guild."
__________________I listen to their suggestions, but am still vague on the exact details. "How do your jump stones work? Can I drop one from the air and, *poof*, instant Kobold flanking mage? I don't see how we can really get ahead of him without him knowing it. I like the flanking assault though." I scratch my scaled chin. Strategy was never my strong suit. I have always done well with the rush in and start killin' things method. "We don't know who owns that pyramid or what kind of welcome Sam will receive. I know my luck well enough to know it isn't likely to be a temple of Bahamut who shoots backstabbing mages on sight. Man, I wish Gwen where here. We need to slow this guy down and nobody is better at slowing people down than Gwen." I stand up. "Let's keep moving, we can discuss this on the way." I set out in the general direction of where Sam was heading, toward these pyramids of doom. |

'The jems are linked together and allow instant transport from one to the other, its prety quick all beit a little expensive as both gems are destroyed in the process. But yeh you could drop it someplace and teleport back there.' You think of the moment sam teleported into the room..he had a ring he gave you and it was growing warm..then poof..
You guys move in the direction twoards the pyramids. When you arrive you see two large golem creatures standing sentry infront of the pyramid entrence. four large stone obilisks rise into the sky. They whole sceen looks out of place and you cant place it uintil you see a person walking into the pyramid holding an almost exact duplicate to the dragon eye staff segments.. you take a glance at your map..Zef is inside the pyramid, Sam is on the other side moving through the village.. |

"Great. Another up-start godling. How many Dragon's Eyes are there? Well, Zef is in there, or at least her ring is. I think I'll go ask. You guys want to hang back or come with me?"
__________________I am really pulled to fly over and confront Sam. The longer he's able to roam around, the more damage he can do. My eye is on Zef, however, and I don't want to get distracted. Sam can wait. Plus, it could be that Gwen is with her, and having both of them with me will make dealing with Sam a breeze. "You don't see a back door do you Larkin?" I sigh. Looks like I'll be knocking at the front door again. I approach it, looking as friendly as I'm able after recent events. |

You grumble and walk through the surrounding village and up to the pyramid. People that seem to be were creatures who have not fully changed look at you with glassy eyes and mistrust. A few hiss at you like they were animals but all get out of your way.
You get to the front of the pyramid and see the two golums, they look at you and move infront to block the door. 'Go about your business' one says as if you were part of the village.. |

"Very well, then stand aside and let me enter, for my "business" is in there."
__________________I point to the inside of the pyramid. If the golums don't move, I pull out my own staff segment and wave it around with authority. I figure the other guy entered and he had a staff, so maybe that's what these golums are keyed to. |

You talk to the golum and they seem impassive...that is uintill you bring out the artifact. At that point you notice the spaces between their joints seem to light up and brighten, the pyramid also seems to have lines of blue in similar patterns to the stalf that rise up it to its apex. You can feel the slight feel of something inside the pyramid pulling at the artifact. ..lines of power shoot off from the pyramid to the obalisks and blue lines of energy rise up to the tips of each one...you have the feeling you have awoken something...something old..something powerful..
You start to contimplate what to do now when one of the golums raises a hand and shoot off a large ray of socrching light at you! (18 damage reflex 23 saves for half).. |

You leap away after being hit. You look down and see some of your cloths have been sliced by the light beam. You hit the golum soundly with your weapon but it holds firm. It and its companion golum raise up their massive arm, you see plates like those on your stalf seperating and circling arround the arm as the place where its hand should be pulses and glows brighter. The first beam of light explodes from the arm and misses you by a hair, you feel youll have a nice sun burn in the morning. The second beam of light hits your armor soundly (18 pts of damage, reflex 23 save for half)
you curse your luck and are not sure you will win this fight when an explosion rocks the space between you and the creatures. Grayfare stands there surrounded in lightning energy, he looks back at you, 'Save zef' he shouts and unleashes a torrent of electricty on the two foes. You look from him to the door way.. |
