ooc - So, the others can attack if they want - I don't really want to control them unless I feel some special need under some special circumstance.
----------

Bastards heated my chain, forcing me to draw Keryvain. Then I'm hit, hard and fast and hard again. Before I can do a damn thing, I'm on the ground. Is scramble back, letting my allies step over me like a discarded child's toy. I get up.

(Some kind of action to crawl away, move action probably), move action to stand up from prone. That's a round or two of actions so I guess I'll wait to for my next turn to do more. I'm a little confused about the mechanics. I may not be able to avoid the AoO for standing up, but that's my goal - crawl away and get up).

OOCPathfinder SRD: Crawling

You can crawl 5 feet as a move action. Crawling incurs attacks of opportunity from any attackers who threaten you at any point of your crawl. A crawling character is considered prone and must take a move action to stand up, provoking an attack of opportunity.

So you can do two standard actions a round. Move move, move attack, or attack attack right. Crawling you can move 10 feet in a round but take aoo's and have a negative to your ac..etc..etc..

As for you moving..you need to start saying where you want to move to as i don't like to assume on your tactics..maybe you want to scoot into the room for all i know :P

Also the option is there for you to use them if you want to or see some great way a cleric/meat shield could be used at a given point.

Combat Errata: i am messing with the dice rolling system. There is a way to have the extra damage show up when you crit but im still trying to work the kinks out of doing complicated strings. So if you look at the monk attacks you only take the second damage if the guy crits on their weapon. Also i forgot to subtract your -4 to ac for being prone so they hit on a 18 not a 22.

You hit the ground hard and work at crawling away but as you raise a leg to get some leverage against the floor monk 3's chain weapon sinks around your leg and bursts into flame. Monk three, who now has you grappled, starts to drag you into the middle of the room. All at once the others rush in to beat you while you are on the ground. At the same time the rest of your party rushes into the door. Zef takes charge and deflects a wicked attack by monk 1 that was aimed at you and deals a stunning attack of her own. Mark and William also slip in and take monk 6 and monk 4 respectively. Monk 5 casts a spell that strikes zef in the chest and threatens to knock her back but she recovers by dropping lower. Monk 1 attacks zef with several blows and you see zef grimace under the pain.

OocSo you take a total of 64 pts of damage from 5 AOO's and 2 attacks

ooc - Ah, I couldn't find the crawling rules. So I would have just stood up and moved back but I think the results would have been about the same. You may as well keep writing, I can't really do anything when I'm unconscious. Unless you want some flavor narrative of my character's thoughts as he passes out? OH, here is my stabilization roll:
Dice Roll:
1d20+4 (19)+4 Total = 23

cool. So he's unconscious at -4 HP.

oocyeh crawling away just to avoid an aoo might have been a bad choice. Was going to continue but it was late when i posted. Also figured you might have something that could help you but alas guess i was wrong

The blows knock you senseless and you start to feel sick to your stomach as darkness overtakes you and then you hear it..a voice..'Ah yes..you are coming to me, coming to me at last' the necromancer says. Your brain reels as you hear the voice and feel its fingers of power start caress your body. All at once you can feel tendrils of power that are moving through this temple and all the towers. You feel the newly dead zealots and each drop of blood that falls onto the floor. The power wisps its way into the dead and with a pulse of darkness the zealots start shift and rise again. Similar tendrils emanate from this very temple to you, they cascade over you and into you, waiting for that one moment..That one last breath, 'Let yourself go Tau, be reborn'

Reborn you think..The pain starts to pass as you fall deeper and deeper into a blissful sleep. 'Tau, come back to me' a voice says, 'Tau!' All at once you feel white hot heat penetrate your body. The voice shifts from that of the necromancer to that of Zef, you look up and see her above you, a hand on your forehead and one on a sword as she defends your body from the attacks.

You awaken to chaos and and the knowledge that the necromancer is still here. You look arround in a blink.

Mark is pressing monk 6 hard away from your body, zef has moved into the room and is taking blows from monk 1 and 2. William is fighting above zefs prone body as she heals you. Darger sees you but is in battle with monk 4. Grayfare has just launched a large gout of hot flame from his staff at monk 2 and 3. And monk 5 is attacking grayfare directly with a spell. At the same time you hear shouts form the other room of the dead rising.

oocyou have revived 55 hit points and are still prone.

Being broken to the point of death, then put together almost as much is not something the body does lightly. It hurts. It is disorienting. It is my body but it doesn't feel like it used too. I gasp as healing energy awakens me. I blink, confused. I did not feel outrage when I was being called by the necromancer, his words soothed. It seemed natural, like he was calling me back home. I wake conflicted. I'm surrounded by friends and loved ones, so why are they fighting?

I pick up Keryvain as I stand up, calmly, as if I'm not really there, the heavy sword feeling alien to me. I watch the fighting of my brothers and sisters. The senselessness of it angers me. That spark of anger explodes and I shout, "STOP THIS!" Keryvain bursts into fire. I step forward, into the group of monks. I hold my blade up in warning.

The battle rages around you. You look around cautiously at the fighting..Friends, loved ones, and family all dueling to the death over what you wonder? You stand and watch for a moment as you gather your wits about you. Raising the mighty Keryvain you shout.

Your words at first go unheard and so you do it again but louder. This time something happens. A whistle sound is heard and the monks go on the defensive as they disengage from battle. With a look our team tentatively does the same. Zef looks at you a bit confused but listens.

Monk 6 takes a step back, the magic blades on his arm vanish like so much smoke and he looks at you, 'You have entered our home, defiled our halls, and killed our followers and friends. Now you wish to stop? To talk perhaps?' he pauses as if he's about to say something else and then nods. 'Fine then, we are not without reason or mercy' he says as he looks at you in the eyes.
As you ponder the new predicament you notice the tension in the room is heavy and each side stand there like coiled animals ready to tear into each other.

Odd, I think. He ordered them to kill me, and yet they pause at my call? Interesting. "All true. When attacked, I attack back. But maybe...." I try to remember where my mind was moments ago, but am having trouble. The line between good and evil becomes more clear. The necromancer's offer of peace now feels false somehow, as if I see through the honeyed words my soul heard as I came close to death. I seek the dragon's eye artifacts. "Would your master be willing to let me and my allies leave this place with what we seek? I seek the Dragon's eye artifacts."

A pause and then a smile crosses his face. 'You come in here and attack us and then ask for artifacts?' he says in an incredulous tone. '

You think for a moment what you would say or do to an enemy who came into your home, killed your friends, and then asked for some item of power you had in your possession. To be sure you doubt you would be chatting to them.

He looks as if he is about to say something then tilts his head ever so much as if he is listening to something. He looks back at you and grimaces some, 'My master would be most willing to discuss things with you.' He pauses and looks at the rest, 'They however are not welcome to join. They may stay in this and the adjoining rooms (indicates the rooms you were just in) until we are done and on my word i promise if they keep to those rooms no harm will fall them.'

Zef looks from him to you and your actions; you see her muscles tense as if she wants to spring into action, to defy you, or to knock reason into your head. You think of it..the line between good and evil..a trap..Honeyed words to bait the trap. You look at the others and they all look wide eye at you. In one hand if you could end this with little conflict or bloodshed it would be good. On the other hand making deals with those who control the undead never tend to work out well.

The monk, indifferent to your response or action makes a motion. All at once all the other monks start to leave this room and walk into the room you first saw them in. when they are all gone the monk stands there alone and outnumbered. 'A concession' he says. 'My master will give you a moment to think' he says as he pulls a round stone from his pocket. He hands the stone to you and you at once think it looks like the moon and as you look closer you see it is indeed a small model of the moon. It however is all dark except for a sliver of light. 'When the sliver is gone your time is up. Leave, talk, or face the consequences of your hesitation' he says as he turns and walks away. As he leaves the room the door is shut behind him.

The others look at you in silence awaiting something..anything..

They leave and the others look at me.

"I didn't expect that. I'm inclined to go." I put on a telepathy ring and have Zef put on the other (if it wasn't already done).

I don't know what I'm going to do or say. I have let a dragonborn sword fall into the hands of a god-like mage in the desert, to no doubt pervert and use in ways my kin would hang me for allowing. I have consorted, and even aided, a white dragon who openly supports the enemy of my God. I have often wondered that if Tiamat is banished, would that not mean the balance is already tipped toward good? Therefore, would it not be better to tip it back - is harmony better than disharmony, even if it means evil is given power? Now, I'm considering making a deal with a necromancer, a vile creature who has killed untold thousands and would do so again. Do the ends justify the means? If I can collect the artifacts without bloodshed, is that worth the cost?

I don't know. I don't know if we can defeat this enemy through force alone. I ask, "Do we have any more Jump Jems? Perhaps I can use them to call you to me if I need you?"

Such an ambush would be dishonorable, but I know I'd sacrifice honor for the greater good. Anything that needs to be done to keep these artifacts away from the likes of the necromancer is justifiable. With the jumpgems (if any) in my pocket, mental contact with Zef established I say,

"Give me five minutes. If I'm not back by then, assume the worst. Stay in the rooms until then, but be ready should I use the gems."

I go to where the monks went, feeling like I'm making a huge mistake.

The door closes and after a moment you speak.

The others look at you like you are crazy and for a moment you wonder.
"What do you expect will happen Tau?" Zef says a bit angrily. 'Do you expect the necromancer will simply see the error of her ways and relinquish the very power that has made her a threat? Not only that but do you expect she will give you the items, items I might add that can give her untold power, that you have allowed to slip into her hands?'

she pauses, purses her lips with a shake and looks around.

Dar'Ger speaks up, 'Aye lad, not sure what good you expect to come out of converting with people who surround themselves with death worshipers. Still...your in charge' he says with some doubt in his voice and perhaps a touch of regret.

Grayfare speaks up, 'Look now! Tau is doing his best and im sure whatever reason he has for trying to strike up a conversation warrents some respect.' he looks at you hopefully while the rest look from Zef to Kess.

You speak some of a plan..jump gems and the likes. Grayfare nods, 'I have a few, but they will only allow us to move to a location and that location must be allowed to support our form.' he pauses, 'have to not have them in your pocket you know'

You nod and take the few (4) that grayfare has left and hand the other 4 out to those who you wish to have em (pick 4). You get ready to leave and at this time Kess speaks up, 'Brother, I do not know what you plan but good hunting. When you give the call Ill be there by your side' he pats you on the shoulder and looks at you in the eyes. You see no doubt or hesitation there and for that you are welcome.

you walk through the door and close it behind you.

The only one in the room is hunched mummy. Before it is the bag you had which holds the dragon eye artifacts. It looks up at you and smiles 'Tau, Welcome' It gestures to a seat and while sitting down says in the voice of the necromancer, 'Please sit and let us talk' it pauses, 'To be honest I did not expect you to walk through that door alone' another smile, 'Now then, this is interesting. You were close to joining me, being reborn, and now here you are' it looks at you 'So then, what do you wish to talk about?' Another smile as she waits for you to speak.

I know the folly that I might be doing, but it feels right. There was a moment, however brief, where I felt as though we were all moral brothers. It may have been seductive dark magic, or there may have been some truth to the feeling. It is possible this necromancer is tired of living in a prison. A gilded cage is still a cage. I feel I owe it to him to offer a peaceful way out of all this. I owe him because we all share this world together and it is wrong to force my will onto others, just as it is wrong from them to force it on me. I do not desire these artifacts for myself, I am called upon to gather them by my obligation to a god, a father and his daughter, and also the items' creator. The world is re-shaping, power is shifting hands. If possible, I'd like to keep the blood-toll to a minimum.

I walk in alone, but I do have gems in my pocket. One for Zef, and Grayfare and two others. (cleric and another fighter/paladin). If Larkin is here and can be 'cured' then there will be six of us. So I feel a little more confident that perhaps I should. In my dragon heart I also know we could have won that fight. The monks were being driven back. They would have fallen. We are stronger than they are.

I do not sit. I stand proudly, my sword drawn but held down. A warriors gesture of temporary peace.

"I have come to retrieve the Dragon's Eye artifacts. I want all of them, as well as - " I pause, trying to suppress the venom in my tone but failing, "As well as my betrayer."

I pause for a moment, making sure he gets my meaning, Larkin. "I gather the artifacts not for myself, but for a greater purpose. In return, I will leave you and your tower peacefully. I do not approve of the dark magic you wield, but if you turn over the Dragon's eye and let us all leave in peace, I will not pursue you further."

The necromancer sits and listens to you. It raises a withered finger and touches the bag almost as if lost in thought.

'I found this artifact hundreds of years ago when i was near death myself. I took it up and with my last dying breath asked the gods that I live forever so i could punish those that had harmed me' she pauses, 'they granted that wish and many more' she says gesturing around her.

'I did not expect more than what I had and then you came' another pause. 'The dragon eye artifact' she smiles, 'Yes, after being given a name i researched these some. Created by the dragon priest ages ago and only now have they come into play in the world. Larkin has told me much about them, your quest to find them, and your quest to keep them out of the hands of Tiamat'

she contemplates for a moment, 'I can remember the age of her exile Tau. I can remember he soldiers marching on the lands, enslaving, burning, pillaging, destroying. Her exile as you can imagine was not something that i mourned over much.' she pauses as she thinks. 'Some might spend a life time and not be able to accomplish a single thing Tau. Still others may be granted life eve rafter and tire of what they have. I' she looks at you, 'am not ready to give up on what i have or the power i wield. I was given the gift of life, reborn if you will and i have no intention of releasing such a gift at this time.'

she looks at the bag, ' i could never expected there were more items or that such items would be linked together Tau. Yet here you are, deep in my lair, my seat of power and you ask for not only the pieces that made me what I am but also the pieces that have so recently come into my possession. That could make me more than what I am. You offer peace if i give you what i have been given.' She sits back and gestures at the bag. It opens and out float the artifacts. The small ring and tear are merged, the two staff segments, the fork from the royal explorers guild..and another one..another staff segment.

They float there for a moment and then start to join together..the staff segments form a large pole approximately 5 feet in length, the fork sits on top of the final staff segment and the ring and eye snap into place in between the fork. Although you know the staff is not complete yet as janis holds the last ring, seeing it this complete sends a shiver down your spine. The necromancer stands and the staff floats over to her and into her hand.

'Funny thing about power Tau' she says as she looks at the staff, 'You never really get tired of it once you have it' she smiles at it, 'One missing part though. One missing bit before this source of power is completed. Think of it Tau' she asks as a rhetorical question 'we could unite the world under one banner..no more war..just the peace of rebirth..a better world for us all Tau' she looks at you,'Don't you want the fighting to stop? the constant struggle? Work with me Tau like Larkin and countless others are and we can change the world for the better' she says trying to appeal to your sense of peace.

She pauses for a moment and then looks at you seriously, 'We cannot after all allow this power to fall into the hands of Tiamat now can we' she nods as if implying your agreeance with her, 'And the one thing you know is that I know how to wield this power' she looks at the staff in contemplation

You thinking She is, in her own way, saying she will help help you keep this power form the followers of Tiamat at the cost of her holding on to it and guarding it. Having her army at your call and herself, being one who is able and willing to wield the staff, in your army would be a great assets. You think about her and her power to raise and control the dead. Is such a thing evil in itself or is it how you wield that power? Indeed you have heard stories of good gods using such powers. Various stories of judgement days where the gods would call the dead to fight for them in the battle to save the realms.

And the goddess of light shall request of those men and women who died before to make the world safe that they again in the final days of days rise from their hallowed graves to take up arms once more; to fight along side their ancestors against the greater evil for the very fate of the realms themselves.

No one ever questions that such a thing is not honorable or a good thing. It was taught by your tribe that it was a great honor to die a warriors death. This was the path to immorality, to rebirth at judgement day. No one questions the act of a god to summon the dead from their graves and tombs in an act of rebirth to fight against the greater evil for the very fate of the realms themselves. In essence is this not what you are doing? If Janis takes hold of the staff she will use it to summon Tiamat and if Tiamat uses it...you shudder to think what the queen of dragons would do with such power. Is this in essence not the end of times?

You remember being near death and the necromancers voice. Soothingly asking you if you wanted to be reborn, never forcing you into a decision you did not want in the first place. Simply asking. You remember being asked this question by another, before you decided to become a dragon born, was such a request of rebirth so different because it came from a god?

OOCThis idea of the dead rising to fight in the end of times is something that is pretty strong in viking and more primitive mythology's and i would imagine carries through to similar d&d cultures that put strength and warrior prowess above all else. This idea would be very similar to the one Jet'al was raised on and so not unfamiliar to him. Obviously you can interrupt this and Jet'al/Tau's feeling on this however you wish.

ooc - interesting stuff, nice little moral dilemma. I want to take a little time to figure out what he'll say exactly. So, bear with me. I can post quicky posts pretty quick, but for ones that take larger chunks of time, I get to those slower.

Does this guy seem sincerer? If I rolled a sense motive, would I pick up anything? (you can roll for me if you like). Can Zef hear this stuff through our telepathic link?

oocNo worries it is a long post with lots of things to think about for you. I did not expect you to just sit down and pop some dialog out.

As for your gut feeling. Yes she seems sincear in what she is saying and you do not detect any decite in her. Your telepathic link with Zef is there and she is of the opinion that you are doing far to much talking to this creature or darkness for her liking. She is also concerned that the more time you sit gabbing the more time they will have to regroup.

I send Zef understanding thoughts. I too think this guy is long winded, and grow uneasy the longer we talk. I also warn her to be ready, that I have no intention of letting him keep the artifacts.

I stand there in silence as she speaks, her words all ring with both truth and...something else. A wrongness. Mortals with the power gods remaking the world. Oppression to end struggle. Serving this creature instead of Bahamut. I try to keep my anger in check. Jet'al would be done with talk by now, but that half-orc blood has been tamed slightly, forged perhaps. Still, anger builds in my muscles, warming them as they get ready to fight.

The offer of power is tempting, however. This necromancer would be a powerful ally if only she could be convinced to aid me. Her time is over, this age is passing and a new one is dawning.

"I would welcome your aid in the coming times. Your knowledge and power might make the difference when it comes to keeping the followers of Tiamat from taking the eye for themselves. Consider this. Your time with the artifacts is short. Even if fail, others will come. Even you cannot stand against them. The Dragon's Eye will fall to the hands of those who serve Tiamat. This era is over and you and I are at a crossroads. My path is clear."

I pause, trying to think of a nice way to put this. We do not have time for lengthy negotiations. My heart hopes that she'll listen to reason.

I ask you this one time. Will you give me the artifacts as well as your aid so that together we can destroy the Eye and keep it from Tiamat's followers, or must we remain enemies?"

I hold the gems ready within my pocket, gripping them harder than I probably should. My other hand holds my sword, oddly relaxed.
