You move towards orc 2, and are blinded for a moment as his ring flares and incarnates his entire body, leaving nothing more than a black charred orcish shape on the floorboards. You look over and the girl has the ring in her hand, it to is glowing brightly. |

I watch as the orc burns away. Confused I study the chard remains for a bit. Then I look up, to the the girl proudly holding the other brightly glowing ring. She has gotten a hold of her self, she will be stronger for it. I am truly proud of her. It is unfortunate that I misjudged what these rings were. I force down my anger at my mistake and say in a firm but patient voice, "Good work! now throw it over there before you burn to death." I point to a place on the other side of the burning bar.
__________________[ooc] If she doesn't throw it after a few seconds, I'll try to knock it out of her hand, (what is that, a disarm attempt?). |

Proudly holding the ring infront of her she looks at you with a confused expression for a second before throwing the. The ring tumbles through the air, glowing brighter as it does, and in one moment it flares. You shield your eyes and when you look back you see faint trails of ether dissipating into the air.
Most of the fire is out in the bar, and you hear some movement outside the door. Someone in a husky voice is yelling past the debris of the inn doors. Moon light can be seen streaming into the inn as the smoke starts to clear. |

With utter relief, I smile a big crooked toothed grin at the girl. I move over to the not-chard orc and try to lift him, but the pain in my shoulder flashes back and I drop down to my knee. With the immediate threats gone, the pain comes flooding back. Somebody went to great lengths to destroy all evidence of this, and I'd like to know who. If I can drag this orc out, maybe somebody could recognize him. I look down again, and see that the better part of his head has been crushed by my killing blow, and even his own children probably wouldn't recognize him. I sit down, and take a few deep breaths, trying to overcome my pain. Splinters make themselves known in my rump and legs. I remove the orc's Belt pouch while I rest for a few seconds. After that is done, I get up and stagger a bit. I walk a over a few feet and knock a burning beam out of the way. From some ashes and broken wood, I pull out the girl's teddy bear. I walk back over to her and hand it to her, it's fur partly burned away.

You push aside the beam; the girl looks up at you, and helps you support your weight. You feel the pangs of the poison, a sick feeling that threatens to overcome you. The fresh air helps.
Your night cloths are blackened and ripped, blood pours down your side, you take 3 steps outside and start to feel your legs buckle, you see the girls face, a look of worry and horror. You dream…. She is on a mountain, a mother in pain, a mother dieing, you’ve seen her, tracked her and her pursuers for days. You look at your hands, their blood still lingers but they are no more. The mother lies there, you go towards her cautiously, you’ve seen her kill and you want no part of that. She whispers something to you and you obey without hesitation. You walk to the back of the cave holding a silk wrapped item. You unwrap it, and see before you the sword of a paladin, you must find its owner. The mother asks one last thing of you. You take the sword and push it into the heart of the mother, she dies there. You prey to her god Kelisha for her safe travel to her realm. You wait, and guard her body. Days later you hear a sound from the back of the cave, you look up and see her child being born… all life is beautiful, and birth id doubly so, even that of a dragon. …You hear the mother’s voice again, your eyes slowly open. Your in a room, your arm is bandaged. The girl, her hand on your chest, is finishing her prayer. Her speech is strange, as if she were not saying the words, but channeling them from somewhere else. You feel a warming feeling enter your body as she finishes her prayer. “blessed be Kelisha”. You feel a sharp pain in your body, all the aches of the past events come back at once, and are as quickly replaced by such warmth and comfort. . . “your alive!”, she says… she runs off and you hear yelling and commotion from the other room..”Dad Dad hes alive!”. You see propped on the other side of the room is the great Zanfair hanging on the wall. Last edited by Gir; 10-12-2005 at 06:53 PM. |

What did she say? No, it couldn't be. Then, Dad? Good, her parents live as well.

Your shoulder is completely healed, just the faintest white line where new skin has grown back. . . It appears they figure out the gear belonged to you and it is in your room.
The inn keep walks in. He’s a large man; in his voice you since only deep admiration. “You have saved my daughter. I owe you much warrior.” He holds your hand in his. “My daughter has told me what you have done. I am grateful to you. . . if I had lost her …well I’m happy she’s alive”. “but I am curious as to your name stranger, you have the hands and the quick thinking of a warrior”. You are about to speak when you see the daughter enter. She is older than what you first thought, maybe 17 or 18, something about her seems familiar. She stands at the door, beaming a happy smile at you, she seems strong. “Ah Zef, come on in”, she walks closer, you remember the healing touch of her hands, strange as you don’t remember seeing a cleric so young… Last edited by Gir; 12-17-2007 at 01:16 PM. |

I smile back at the girl and nod my head. I notice my face is not covered, but these people deserve my respect, so I let it go. As I run my finger around my new scar, I turn to the father and say,
__________________"You have a brave girl there sir, and one with strange gifts.(?)" I give the father a questioning look. Then I continue, my rough voice in a somber tone, "My name is Jet'Al and I am a warrior from the western deserts. I'm afraid it is I who am in your debt, for it seems I am the catalyst for the destruction of your inn. Two orcs, obviously hired assassins, wanted me dead and all the evidence burned, this included your inn. If I were not there, your daughter wouldn't have been placed at risk, and your inn would still be standing. I will work to repay you in any way I can." I lean back, and feel a sharp pain in my back. I reach around and mess with it for a few seconds, and pull out a small sliver of wood. "Missed one." |

Zef smiles broadly at you.
Her father looks from her to you, “Jet’Al, you owe me nothing, it is obvious that if you had known the danger you were in, you would not have come to my inn, or if you had, you would have asked for help. …Zef can you leave us for a moment”? “yeh dad, Thanks Jet’Al” zef skips out of the room. Her dad looks at you, “Your right jet’Al she does have strange gifts. Zef has not been the same since the fire. Its been about 4 days since the fire Jet’Al” The realization of time takes a moment to sink in. “She awoke us 3 days ago, and was talking in some strange tongue. Now I used to adventure Jet’Al, and I tell yeh it was draconis, the tongue of the dragons. I have no idea where she learned such a thing but it has me worried.” His words take a while to sink in. “she slept and talked in her dreams up until today when she awoke. She walked down to you and looking at you she thanked you in draconis, then came running to us. Later she came back to you and healed you using a prayer to the dragon goddess of magic” |

(hey figured you wanted some EXP for that whole thing
Now personally I don’t like the new exp system to much, but ill try to make due. Just seems like your getting to much exp for the lv. But of course I played 2nd ed, where each class had an exp chart, and where the exp per level was 2 times the exp needed for your current level, so 2k for lv 2, 4 k for lv 3, 8 k for lv 4, 16k for 5..etc. And where a bloody orc gave you 65 exp per kill not 150exp..ok done with my rant. For now that is… Ok 2 orcs =300 Saving the girl =100 Saving the inn (mostly) = 50 Saving the hammer =50 So 500 exp total. (now you have done 3rd edition more than me, so if that seems to much or two little just tell me.) |

[ooc] Exp is up to you. It depends on how fast you want me to level up. I'd take away something for the fact that you needed to fudge your rolls to keep me alive. A mean DM would have killed me or the girl on multiple occasions. One more encounter like that and I level up. It seems fast to me, but then again, it slows down as you get higher and higher so it kind of makes sense. Like any skill, you learn quickly at the beginning and progress more slowly as you get better.
__________________Also, under normal circumstances, (not in a burning building), two orcs are a challenge rating of 1, so that means a party of 4 1st level characters might kill them and only loose one or two of their own. Because I was alone, that was probably more than I could handle, (which is why you had to fudge the rolls). But I have high stats, so I'm slightly above a normal 1st level character, but still not equal to a party of 4. So given that, 500 exp doesn't seem too high. Again, it is all about how fast you want me to gain levels. Speaking of leveling up, I am debating where to take this character and one possibility is to multi class as a wizard or sorcerer. It kind of seems to fit him because of his intelligence and reverence for magic users and clerics. As a kid, he was tolerated and taught by those type people, maybe they saw something in him. He'll always be mostly a fighter, but I'm thinking of having him dabble some in the arcane arts as he gets more exp. I could just play a strait Fighter, but I want him to be a bit more complex than that. Just something to think about if you want to include a means in game for him to develop his arcane side. |

I thought challenge ratting was …CR 1 is equal to a character level 1. humm…anyway, I think 500 exp is good, first few levels are kinda fluff anyway. Which is to say you’ll need some levels to survive.
Multi class wizard or sorcerer would be cool, I think barbarian would not really fit. Theif…naw..druid maybe or even cleric. Monk …is an uber fighter so maybe not. Also think of prestige classes. Ill let you do any one, you just have to have the prerequisites for em. Some are here http://www.wizards.com/d20/files/v35...igeClasses.rtf Id even let you do these ones. http://nwn.bioware.com/underdark/prestige_classes.html http://nwn.bioware.com/shadows/prestige_classes.html there well balanced and pretty much follow d&d core rules Theres lots of other people doing prestige classes, but try to think of balance of the class and what not. Ill accept any prestige class from a d&d book or any of the above from bioware, just send me the info. There will be plenty of arcane stuff in the game; you might consider just being a fighter for a few levels, say lv 5 or 6 (you get a bonus feat at six, and also your attack bonus for off hand) then switch to sorc or wizard. This will give you a good back ground with some feats and also weapons/hit points/ to attack bonus. You could also switch to ranger as well. If you feel like a fighter is not the character you wanted to play then if you want you can switch to another class, well keep the outcome the same since you really you only wielded a hammer for a brief moment, we could call that a desprate act if need be. Up to you though. Last edited by Gir; 10-13-2005 at 02:42 PM. |
