He took a deep breath, and plunged forward in the same way Valegar had, crossbow at the ready. |

Jonas Maddock, CG Human Paladin of Freedom HP:37/37, AC:20
"I apologize, but it looks like we'll have to delay introductions.", Jonas says with a small grin. He puts on his helmet and draws a beautifully crafted longbow from his back. Then, with "For Shriaz and Kord..." on his lips he exits the tavern, senses already alert for an attack from anyside.

Devlin
The group of four sits at the table talking and eating. As they chat Lupin ***** up quickly, his ears straight up as if sensing a stranger is near. Devlin notices the wolfs reaction just as the scream rings out outside the inn. Jumping quickly to his feet, the ranger slips his sword over onto his back and grabs up the bow he laid upon the table. He calmly draws forth two arrows and readies one to fire. Out the door he moves with his lupine companion as always at his side. Devlin notices the apprehension and almost outright fear upon the face of the young wizard as he exits the inn. The ranger speaks to him.

Above the commotion a distinct sound can be heard. The sound of a spell being cast. Though the words are heard, no one is 100% sure where they are coming from. The barroom friends run out of the tavern into a stormy night. Fire licks the skys to the north as the gates burn. Town guards run about and the odd man yells orders. Though they have been training these folks are still but farmers. A rock sores through the air and collids with the lone stone tower located just inside the town to the north. The missile crashs into the tower, causeing it to buckle under its own weight but still the tower manages to stand. You all stand, uncerntain of what to do next. The gate burns and defies the rain. The walls still stand and no enemies are about. But still something whispers at the back of your minds; who was casting a spell?
__________________Screams from within the tavern spill into the night and the doors burst open. A dog-like creature, 8 feet long and covered in long, quill like spikes, breaks through the doors and howls into the night. Behind it, the bar is alit with flame and bodies can be seen thrashing about. Initiative and actions, please. Knowledge lanes checks if you gottem.

Valegar Bearslayer, AC 19, hp 48/48
Valegar spins in the direction of the beast and lets his readied bolt fly. As soon as the bolt exits the crossbow barrel, Valegar drops it to the ground and draws his greatsword. "Come dog, let me end your miserable life!"

Sebastien had just finished fitting his mithril bands to his wrists and arms and loading his crossbow as he stepped out into the cold rain again. He bent at the knees and waist as if cringing at the fury of battle surrounding him. He heard the distinct sound of Draconic chants spoken someone obviuously not too far from where he was. The words rang in his mind, but for the life of him, he was too paniced to recognize the incantation. "Oh perfect! Another arcanist. Ohhh...I'll wager he's better than me. Maybe I aughta just run back inside...No! I've come this far. My friends and family are counting on me. Besides, Mr. Devlin said he'd look after me, and I can always blame my knees shaking on the cold."
__________________As couragious as he tried to be, Sebastien's first priority was still self preservation. With his free hand, he went through the motions he'd done so many times. It was nearly always the first one he did. As he finished, a ghostly shield appeared infront of him and then vanished in a flash of blue light. |

Devlin
Devlin stares in awe as the boulder smashes into the tower. As he continues to look towards the front gate, the door to the inn bursts outward. This causes the ranger to swing around to see what caused it. Ever alert, he already has his bow ready to fire which he does the moment he sees the huge dog beast lumber out. As the first arrow flies towards the monster, Devlin is already loading a second arrow which he lets fly in quick order.

Sebastien turns a frightened eye at the quill covered hound and begins to cast a defensive spell.
__________________Devlin turns a second after the caster and lets an arrow sore. His hasty turns misdirects his shot by and inch and the arrow lands with a thud above the dogs head. His second shot, however, lands true and embeds itself in the dogs neck. Jonas wastes no time and charges forth. His mighty greatsword bursts to life a coats in a white flame. The paladin can feel his blades hunger for the evil infront of him. Jonas swings his a wild over hand chope that cuts deep into the hounds neck, nearly knocking it off of its feet. The hound howls a blood stop howl. It lungs forward and clamps its teeth down on Jonas' leg, peircing through his plate armour and score a ficious hit. The hound thrashs about, the quills on its back strike out and slash at the paladins neck and arm area. The first by-passes Jonas' plate and embeds itself into his neck. Jonas takes a total of 23 damage. DC 16 Reflex save please. Valegar takes careful aim and even though the paladin is in close quarters with the enemy fires off his crossbow. It lands true and strikes the hound in the rump. Devlin's wolf runs by the hound and enters into the tavern. Everyone hears a yelp as the wold cries out in pain. The screams from the patrons within stop. To the north the gate continues to burn. To the west, behind the party, the wooden wall buckels as something smashs into it. |

Following the paladin's lead, Valegar charges the dog beast with his massive sword leading. The barbarian was not one to be out done in melee, especially in the company of new allies.

Though very frightened, Sebastien remembered what his mentor Professor Cornelious had told him time and again: "Bravery isn't never having fear. Fear is what keeps us safe. Bravery comes from those who are willing to do what scares them regardless" He repeated it in his head, then made his move. He began to cast a call for help. His speciality.
__________________When he finished, a tremendous centepede with blowing red eyes appeared behind the spined beast. It sprang onto it immediately, wrapping itself around and around to tie up the monster so the others could worry about something else for a while at least. "Come on you guys! We gotta do soemthing about that gate and west wall!" Last edited by Braknurr; 02-25-2006 at 02:58 PM. Reason: typo in the dice rolls. |

Devlin
Devlin's heart drops as he hears his longtime companion yelp out in pain. I hope I didnt jsut send him to die, ill never forgive myself if I did. Before he could dwell upon it anymore, something crashes into the main gate buckling it inward. Knowing he cannot help the others fighting the dog beast the ranger makes for the gate. Devlin stops once he finds suitable cover from which he can snipe at anything to come through the gate. Once there he readies an arrow to fire at the first thing through the gate.

(ooc: if my readied attack goes against a goblinoid, it gets +1 to damage: if its an orc it gets +2 to the damage. Also, could we get a map of the combat area?)
