well you were sleeping you you may not have realised what it was. still if you come back to the camp sooner or later it wwould happen again. so that you could then deduce that it is the tree who is making jasper run away.

i do not think jasper understand wich force is making him run away. it my be for him like a command spell. he just feels the need to move away from the tree.

After moving the camels and Jasper away from the tree Abel will get closer to the tree himself. "Well the bugs seamed to do alright. You stay here and watch the cammels Jasper." With caution but at a good pce, THe mage moves closer and closer to the tree, until reaching it's trunk.

OoC: If nothing happens I'll get super close to the tree and touch the trunk. Then if nothing happes I'll try to break off a piece of bark, or snag branch.

ok, jasper and the camels are far away. as your character is taking supper below the tree, he would get to hear a lowe very slow voice. the voice will sound a bit like the wind that blows between the branches of the tree, so that your character would at first not really understand it. but as it hears more of it he would get to understand it more and more.

you travel with an evil monster stranger. but you have no evil in yourself....

Spetting the bread from his mouth, Abel jumps to his feet in surprise, "AHHhh!!? Who's there?" The frantic magician looks about in all directions and into the trees branches. "Uhhh, tree? Is that you?" What are you, low born? Trees don't talk.

Taking a few deep breaths Abel calms down. Well trees don't wander around the desert now do they? "Uhh tree, what was that you said? Evil monster? You uh must mean my friend Jasper. He's evil?" The wizard looks around for his words, "Well he's not really evil... unatural yes but it's not his fault. How is it that you..." Can't belive I'm going to spill my secret to this tree. "You see, he was killed you see, and it's because of me. So I tried to breing him back and... well it didn't work out all that great. That's why I'm out here in the desert. I'm looking for a way to fix what I did, you see."

there is a long pause after Abel finish talking, so long that he would start asking hyimself weather he really heard something or is just imaging it.
there is no wind so there would be no way for the branches to have done that noise, and well he is tired from the long desert walk, and the sand and the whole stress... so maybe

and it is then when he has already convinced himself that it was not the tree that he would hear it again.
such a monster should not exist. if you want to save your friend, then kill him before evil consumes his soul.

Oh thank the gods, I'm not going crazy.

Abel sighs, "I can't. Not yet anyways. It's my fault he's like that and I'm willing to do nearly anything to breing him back. Killing him would be giving up, and I can't give up. Not on Jasper. Besides he's never done an evil thing, not for as long as I've known him anyways." Abel looks in the direction of the camels and Jasper and drops his shoulders in sadness..

After a period of silence Abel perks up a little, "I'm out here for him, whats a tree like you doing out here in this sandy waste?"

once again there is a long pause.it starts to be clear that the tree moves and thinks to a diferent speed than Abel. and once again ti comes an answer , in the same low slow monotone way of talking it is evil, and he will do evil. it is better you do something soon, otherwise he will the one that kills you.. his dead was your fault, would his born as an evil creature also be your fault?
...

after this there is an even longer pause, of more than an hour. whatever abel says or does during this time will not have effect on the tree. and then:
i go to see the oracle, i seek an answer to the incoming events

Abel jumps up in accitment, "The oracle!? That why I'm out here too. Wow, what a coincidence. So... do you know where your going or are you just wandering until you find him? I ask becuase to tell youu the truth I don't really know where I'm going. I had a guide but a giant worm attacked and all I managed to get from the man before he died was a heading and the words go straight." The mage scratches his head and frowns, "Plus I don't know how long the supplies I salvaged will last."

there will be no answer from the tree. not for the rest of the night (in wich it would advance some 20 meters more) neither during the morning time. (still if jasper comes close, he would be rejected again)

With no answer from the tree, Abel will sleep for the rest of the night.

In the morning he'll eat his daily ration, and contemplate what to do next. "Well Jasper, that tree is after the same thing as us, and I'd imagine something like that knows where it's going. But on the other hand, it's moving very slowly. We could runn out of supplies way before it gets to the oracle. That and it doesn't seem to like you. "

Suddenly an idea dawns on the mage, "I have it! We're on our way to see the oracle, lets let fate decide." Plunging both hands into the sand he grabs a handful each, and lets the sand poor from each. "Whichever hand runs out first. Left we fallow the tree, right we continue on the origonal course."

Abel stares as if in a trance at the sand pooring from his hands until long after each hand has run out. "You know what? Damn that obstanant hunk of firewood." Packing the camels up and saddling Jasper, Abel mounts his own camel and ushers them on. With a general bearing on which direction the tree is headed the mage movesahead of it.

the tree would make no noise and abel starts again its way into the desert. he could continue until the tree is way behind him, the sun would burn his skin only by touching it. the sand would dry his lips and the camel would stink after a while. not to mention the back pain that gives him not being used to the trout of the camel ( wich moves far more than a horse)

all in all abel has reasons to feel optimist, not only he got a hint that he was in the right way, but also he has not faced any other sand worm or anything like that.
soon the night would come and abel would stop to rest and eat. there is no one single sign of life all arround him, no birds or insects flying arround, it is without doubht the must dead places of all.
only the stars shine above him in silence

Satified with his decission Abel sleeps easy, and in the morning wakes up chipper and refreshed. After feeding the camels he'll sit and eat himself, and study from his spell book. "That tree..."

"You know Jasper when this is all over we should try to track down where that tree came from and study it further. We might even find more." The mage takes a sip of water. "Not very good on conversation tho. But maybe when your back to your old self it's tongue'll be a little looser. Or branches..." After about an hour of study Abel packs up and, with a quick look back towards the tree's direction, continues forward.

"I have a good fealing about today Jasper, how bout you?"

OoC: Gona keep going in the same direction.

today, and the day after, and 3 days more. the desert extends beyond anything else Abel has seen. true enough is that since he started traveling in this land he has already covered a distance equally to going from one end to the other of galedus. and even then there is no sign of life, not a city, nor a village, not even a lost building.
but now that he thinks about it, no building would stand long in this weather, where the sand consumes everything. water is running short, learly abel didnt calculate clearly how much he would consume under this terrible heat. and if that wasnt enough jasper is stinking to dead ( well more than normally) some birds have already start flying in circles arround him, if this continues there would not be doubth that jasper will atract any sort of monsters that are out there. already the camels try to stay as far as posible from him. and Abel has to be atent to aboid the birds taking pieces of his friend.

it is at the end of the 6th day, when abel is about to do his night camp when he sees a light in the horizont. the light from a fireplace or something similar. in between this darkness is easily seen kilometers away.

As the weary Abel comes to rest a glint of light catches his eye in the vast black of the desert night. After a double take, he rubbes his eyes, "You see that too, right Jasper? I know people see things in the desert, but only during the day. It's amazing! Running low on supplies and we find someone out here, the gods are looking out for us friend." Kicking the camels into motion, the group moves toward the light.

After approching a bit closer the mage stops Jasper, "Listen, I don't know whats up there so you need to stay here until it's safe." Taking a small pinch of quarts dust from the pouch on his belt Able draws his name on Jaspers forehead. "Just in case. Anything could happen out here and I wouldn't want to lose you." Then with all three camels and gear, save what Japser wears, Abel will complete the distance to the light.

OoC: Get closer to the light before stopping Jasper and casting Arcane Mark on him. Then ride to the light with all three camels.

Abel is marking the forehead of Jasper. he is stil at sopme distance from the light source when he would hear something flying above him. it would be short but clearly the sounds of some giant insect or something. they are also flying in the direction of the light.

leaving jasper behind abel would aproach the light source finding something completly diferent as he expected. the light comes from the back of a grick head. a creature simillar to a giant worm, with tentaces arround a peak in his head.
the coloration on the head moves and moves like a real flame but it is nothing but a trap. The monster has just finished killing the last giant beetle that was atracted by the light and is now more interested in the incoming Abel.
