[Game Thread] In the Still of the Night

Darren, leading anyone else who needs to buy some new clothes for whatever the reason, makes his way down the street in the direction that Sibohan indicated with her gesture. He finally comes to a small shop crammed in between two larger buildings. Even though the front of the shop is narrow, it stretches back a ways. The front has a sign the indicates this is the Drenier Cri, a clothing shop for the discerning consumer in a nicely stylized font.

The inside is nice and warm and inviting. The displays are sparse, but expertly sent up to display the wares to the best degree. There are outfits for both rich patrons looking for highly fashionable apparel and thrifty shoppers needing durable and utilitarian attire. Polite and friendly staff are available to assist you with any questions you may have. There are a couple of patrons already inside, looking through the various garments.

• Fashionable Courtier’s outfit; 30 gp, 6 lb.; Includes a silk shirt in your choice of tones (mustard yellow, radiant mauve, passionate puce), A neutral colored dragon-tooth vest (charcoal grey, midnight black, or bladesteel grey), excellent pantaloons (matching vest), a long neckerchief (matching shirt), and not-so-sensible loafers (black, off-black). (appropriate clothes for any social situation, needs appropriate jewelry)
• Noblesse Oblige outfit; 75 gp, 10 lb.; Includes a fine silk shirt with ruffled cuffs, A colored vest with personalized crest, finely tailored pantaloons, a hat (beret, derby or trilby), and sensible loafers. All clothes are customized in color according to house/family colors. (appropriate clothes for any social situation; needs appropriate jewelry and signet ring)
• Fashionable White Cold Weather Outfit; 20 gp, 7 lb.; This outfit consists of a white fur-lined coat, colored wool shirt, a heavy furred cloak with hood, thick whitened pants, and fur-rimmed leather boots. (grants a +5 circumstance bonus on Fortitude saving throws against exposure to cold weather; appropriate clothes for any social situation)
• Basic Cold Weather Outfit: 8gp, 8 lb.; This outfit includes a heavy wool coat, a wellmade linen shirt, thick wool cap, thick wool-lined pants, and thick wool socks and heavy boots. (grants a +5 circumstance bonus on Fortitude saving throws against exposure to cold weather)
• Undermountain Explorer’s outfit; 10 gp, 8 lb.; This utilitarian outfit is made to last the most hardy dungeon and consists of sturdy dire-bat boots, dire-bat leather breeches, a spider-silk belt, a woolen shirt, an umber-down vest with utilitarian pockets, spider-silk gloves, and a darkmantle-leather cloak. The outfit can be accessorized with a colored spider-silk scarf and a wide-brimmed umber-down hat.
• Waterside Traveler’s outfit; 4 gp, 5 lb.; This basic set of comfortable traveling clothes consists of well-constructed crocodile boots, snake-skin breeches, a sturdy snake-skin belt, a colored woolen shirt, and an ample otter-pelt water-repellent cloak with deep hood.

All outfits are the male version, but female versions are available upon request, though it may garner you strange looks from the staff. Please make your purchases and take them to the front counter. (If there is anything else that you need, just ask, and someone can check in back to see if there happens to be any stored away.)

Rosendo watches the carriage move off, chuckling at Victor's words, which given the bard's unique perspective on the situation could almost be interpreted as prophetic. "Indeed, yes," Rosendo replies, "that would be an excellent pen name for the Chronomancer. You might even be, someday, the very person who gives him the idea to use it." If it were not so stormy at the moment, Rosendo might have gone so far as to pull out his song book and write the name down, but he decides that he'll be able to remember it long enough to write it down later. Rosendo likes that the name appears to have taken on a second meaning, though he doubts that his future self will choose it because his works are timeless. Works can only be timeless, after all, in retrospect, with the passing of decades or even centuries, so assuming when he chose, or will choose, the name, that his works will be timeless would seem to be excessively presumptuous even for an ego the size of his own.

When Darren heads into the clothing store, Rosendo follows him in. It is the fashionable courtier's outfit, of course, which catches the bard's eye. He debates for a few minutes between the mustard yellow and the passionate puce. Before his trip to the manor, the yellow would have won easily, but coordinating the outfit with the hat he acquired in the bowels of the manor takes more thought. Finally he decides on the puce shirt with the midnight black vest and pantaloons and the off-black loafers. It is much less showy than his normal performance attire, but he thinks it will make a nice contrast with Lady Yvonne's outfit.

As Rosendo waits for the minor alterations required to make the outfit uniquely his, he continues shopping. He already has a cold weather outfit, but the shop is offering a much more fashionable alternative, and Rosendo finds that he simply can't resist it. He decides, though, to try to talk the shopkeeper into a reduced price. He stands looking at the outfit, as if debating, then says, "You know, I might also buy this outfit. The prices seem a bit high, though, compared to shops in other towns. It's not that I can't afford it, of course, it's merely the principle of the thing. I may need to discuss this with Lady Yvonne. Unless... perhaps, to avoid disturbing her with such petty concerns, you might reduce the price slightly? 45 gold pieces total for the two outfits, perhaps?"

 

Rosendo tries to barter the shopkeeper down. It's not that he can't afford full price, but if you've got charisma as high as his, why not take advantage of it?

If unsuccessful, he'll buy it anyway.

The nice pleasant staff politely listens to Rosendo, nodding and smiling. "Well, sir, since you know the Vercedes, I could reduce the price somewhat, but I can only go down to 48gp. The tailor has finished with our items, and here they are all packaged up (minus if you are wearing one of them) for you to take. Thank you and have a nice day."

(Also forgot to add that since the town has a large dwarven population, there are also many dwarven proportioned sets available too. Same as above.)

The old man entered the store as well, but mostly because the alternative seemed to be staying alone in the coach. Grumbling at how expensive everything is and how everything is fancied up beyond what had to be useful, he only concedes that the winter set did indeed look like it would keep someone warm. If it would be even warmer if they put all the stuffing on the inside of the coat.

The dwarf would not be left out from the excursion to the tailor, wrapped in his meager cloak he follows the rest of the crew to the clothing store. Fortunately for Dassek, the high dwarf population means there is a good showing of outfits that may fit him. The Fashionable White Cold Weather outfit catches his eye, but the Basic Cold Weather outfit will suit his needs aplenty.

Dassek is impressed with the Tailor's haste in preparing Rosendo's clothes, and readily parts with the 8gp as advertised for his own. Switching to the heavy wool cloak, Dassek revels in the weight and the warmth it will provide against the coming season.

Rosendo pauses, seemingly deciding whether 2 gold pieces is enough of a discount, before nodding in agreement. "48 it is, then." The bard produces a coin purse from his Haversack and proceeds to count out 4 platinum pieces, followed by 8 gold pieces. Next to these he lays a silver piece. "Thank you for your excellent service," he tells the staff. "I will be certain to mention your fine work to Lady Yvonne when I see her at the play later."

Rosendo slips the cold weather outfit into his Haversack then changes into the courtier's outfit and considers his reflection in the full length mirror. "Yes, I think that will do nicely," he says, not appearing to be talking to anyone in particular. He then walks over to where the others, having long since completed their own purchases, are waiting. "Shall we go?"

Darren, who smells awful and is still crusted with some of the gunk of the road and horrible house, steps into the clothier.

The young noble is instantly drawn towards the Fashionable Courtier collection, but Rosendo also seems drawn towards it, not wanting to appear at another social event wearing the same outfit as another friend, he lets the bard have his pick of that group.

He completely passes over the Oblige collection, not that the costs are too extravagant, just that he doesn't like to be too dressy unless its a Courtly occasion, which it isn't.

His eyes settle on the outfit from the Explorers collection. While not the flashiest or most expensive clothing here they appear to be the most comfortable and black shows off his physique quite well.

Darren picks out a hat to go along with the outfit and heads off to pay.
