What the .... is going on here?
I signed up yesterday and don't have a clue what the hell is going on! I have this vague realisation that i have to make four posts to become "normal" (if only it were that simple!) Is there somewhere on this site that lays it all out real simple like? Or is that what happens in the solo game? |

My guess is, new people just find the ends of the suggested threads on the new people forum, and post their required four to return to normalcy...finally.

The four post thing was to limit spamming.

Just a point of clarification, spiders cannot fly in the same sense that flying squirrels can't. Certain species of baby spiders however, can travel miles by "ballooning." Shortly after hatching these spiders will climb to the tallest point they can find and let out a strand of silk which is still attached to the spider. The wind will snag the strand and take the spider along for the ride. Some spiders are even known to try to control the flight by releasing more silk or reeling it back. So, in a way, spiders can fly. http://blogs.bu.edu/biolocomotion/2011/11/28/ballooning-spiders/Source
And a question for Amy: what is the most peculiar allergy you've come across? Either your's, a friend's, family's, or acquaintance's. |

Whenever I read something about ballooning spiders it makes me think of Charlotte's Web

This sounds more like jumping instead of flying I guess, but because baby spiders are very light they are being swept by the wind.

I tried to explain to the server how patently, farcically, impossible that was. In the end I could only shrug and say "okay. salt allergy. gotcha." |

Might have been an iodine allergy, iodized salt is fairly common and reacting to the iodine in it could lead some people to think they were allergic to salt.

Just like you'r body requires salt, it requires iodine. I don't see that as likely. Or the other hand, there is a girl in Melbourne that's allergic to water. As I was watching the show, I was thinking, how does she drink?

Iodine allergies are actually fairly common. It means that they can't eat seafood, have to make sure that doctors and such use non-iodine based antiseptics, and have to buy non-iodized salt. You can be allergic to just about anything.

Fair enough. I know that some people are allergic to sunlight. Not albinos with no pigment in their skin, but normal skin that's allergic to sunlight. I often wounder how we survived with all this dysfunction plaguing us.

I DO like the logo for Mortal Kombat, but I'd prefer a giant shark. ^^
