Starting to feel the effects of his efforts, Voodoo was beginning to think it was time to make a run for it. Then that damned Rauverne showed up! "Just stay out of my way, Rauverne. And keep your eye on that man over there in the corner. Tie him up if you want, I don't care, just don't let him get away!"

And then the spell came, giving Voodoo a sense of heroics and daring that he most certainly didn't need at this moment. He needed to be able to run when the time called for it, not some false sense of power! "Oh well, no time like the present!" He thought, flinging his chain in a continual blur of movement. He looked at his opponents, trying to gauge which was the biggest threat and which was closer to death. Finally, choosing his mark, Voodoo let loose his chain towards the bloodied enemy...

It seemed to Huvan that he'd been staring into the tigers eyes for a considerable amount of time, but it had been barely a half a second. Even in that fleeting moment, as the tiger's teeth sunk into Huvan's wing, he saw the emptiness within the tiger's eyes. It filled him with anger to know that the horrid Barghest had perverted a gift granted by nature. In a desperate attempt to bring the tiger back into his control Huvan looks into it's eyes again, hoping to ignite a spark of recognition.

Huvan knew that if he flew from the ledge, the Barghest and tiger would surely turn around and join the fight against Voodoo. The rogue had faught valiantly to that point but was starting to take a few lashes of his own. Rauverne was there to help as well but with the Barghest and tiger it would be 3 on 2. And so Huvan decided to take a chance and attempt to snuff the life from the Barghest nearest him once and for all. He concentrated on the lightning spell, it's magic still lingering, waiting to be called upon, to rain destruction down on his foes.

ooc:You are partially right Gath. I remembered your DR the first two times you were hit and deducted it, but didn't the next to times. As such you should have a +1 to HP, which I am adjusting pronto. From now on I will mark the adjustment so you know that I am reflecting it. Also the two Barghest are now on either side of the hallway. The one attacking Huvan is more injured but it would be too far away for you.

Also, I forgot Huvan's as well since his armor works in shape change form. I'll add +3 to your HPs but you need to mark your sheet to show your Iron Ward Diamond only has 27 points of DR left.

Huvan's volley of electricity continues as the faerie fire takes effect again and shocks the Barghest (-5hp,-5hps). On the nearest creature he also unleashes another flash of lightning but again the Barghest dodges the full blast (-4hps). Its actually smells a bit like roast venison, although the burning fur seems to ruin it.

The Tiger returns Huvan's stare, but answers with a vicious growl and lunge at the Eagle. The simple creature could not sort out the confused state that the Barghest had put him in. The lunge misses as well do the claws of the beast which slam against the nearby wall instead.

The invisible Rauverne steps up supports his companion with a spell. The cowering man hears the voice come from right besides him and nearly jumps out of his skin. Why..why..why didn't I keep my big mouth shut. He mutters to himself.

With a now renewed intensity, Voodoo takes a step back and continues his assult on the Barghest nearest him. A spike catches the creature right in the back and looks like it may have even punctured a vital organ, but didn't. Still the creature is now on its last legs and possibly looking for an exit (-12hps).

The two Barghest look worried. Or at least you figure that if an ugly wolf/goblin half-breed can look worried, then this is what it would look like. Unfortunately for them, both apparent exits are blocked unless they want to start working the doors again. That would be difficult in their present forms and so they continue to fight. One of them attacks Huvan and actually manages to land a strike with a claw, although it seems to have no effect (-2hp+2hp/dr=0hps). The other doesn't fare much better as it looks like it is going to give Voodoo a strong bite to the side when its own blinking causes his jaws to just pass right through.

By this time the sounds of the battle have carried through to the entire building and you all can hear murmuring and shouts coming from downstairs and outside.

Watching Voodoo re-enter the fray, Rauverne was satisfied that he had restored the man’s bravery. He had previously been fearful that the human would bolt from the chaos, having sensed his indecision. With a wry smirk, Rauverne was pleased with the appropriateness of the spell, All mouth and no substance, I’m sure there’s a hero in him…somewhere.

His attention drawn back to the near riot ensuing around him, Rauverne ignored Voodoo’s advice and overcame his usual reticence to engage in melee himself, usually finding this kind of action quite vulgar.

Taking a step forward, the invisible almar launched a couple of surprise attacks on the nearest barghest. His rapier still echoing the remnants of his stirring words from earlier, Rauverne found it pleasing to his ear to hear his own voice being replayed in such a fashion, I’m not so sure these beasts do though!

Imagining he was leading a young and vivacious lady dancing, Rauverne gracefully steps forward. With a swift slashing of his favourite weapon he looks to inflict maximum damage on his surprised opponent.

With the sound of footsteps and lunging, the efforts of battle were all too clear to Voodoo. He watched as the Barghest moved and wriggled about and waited for the opportune moment to strike. He wanted this hit to count as much as possible, and with Rauverne here now, there might just be a chance.

Then, the opportunity presented itself as the Barghest turned its head towards the sudden and inexplicable poking at its rump and Voodoo jumped into action. He took a step to the side and then unleashed his fury on his distracted foe...

The Barghest seemed to be losing their will to fight, but with nowhere to go they had little choice but continue. Huvan realized that an end to the battle was within reach. One more bolt of lightning to complete the destruction of this vile beast. Before calling his next bolt, Huvan looked across the room to the flurry of action that was Voodoo and Rauverne. The Barghest on that side of the room was completely dominated.

The clatter of voices and pounding fists crept into the room from down the stairs and outside the window. This won't be an easy scene to explain. Maybe Rauverne has an entertaining fib he can use to douse these peoples fears.

Mechanics

Huvan's armor does indeed work in wild shape but there is one caveat to using it. In order for it to be usable in wild shape, Huvan must sacrifice one other Wild Shape usage. That means so far I've used 2/3 total for the day.

Huvan sends down another rain of electrical fire which smotes the Barghest on his end. This leaves the Tiger confused as to what to do next. It simply backs off into the middle of the hall, still quite defensive, but unwilling to attack anything at this moment.

On the other end, Rauverne and Voodoo circle the Barghest. Rauverne breaks his spell and attacks with jab of his rapier to the creatures hind quarters. The Barghest is taken quite by suprise by the attack and begins to spin around to see his new adversary. This is the opening that Voodoo was waiting for and he slams his chain down on the creature, breaking its back. The Barghest twitches for a moment and then dies.

All the Barghest are now dead, which brings forth a sigh of relief from the cowering man near the stairway. Thank the heavens you showed up. I thoughts they were going to kill me after theys were done with me. He finally stands and takes a step towards the stairway. Much obliged.

The sounds of those downstairs grow louder now that the battle is over and you can hear someone shouting for the guards. Of the six doors on the level, the two to the east are open revealing empty rooms. The other four are all quiet, although you can't tell if it is because they are empty or because those within are simply hiding. Or at least you can't tell from anything out here.

oocHuvan, you had originally scouted the northern side of the building, while Rauverne you had seen it from the abandoned apartment to the south.

Covered in sweat and blood, both his own and that of the Barghest, Voodoo stood there still holding his chain in hand and wiped his brow with the back of his sleeve, leaving a smear of gore across his face. "Thanks," he said to the man, "It was all about team work this time..." He smiled and looked over his shoulder to Huvan, making sure he was still there and still alive.

"Rauverne, why don't you go try and calm those people down on the lower levels. We've got work to do here and we don't need the watch here just yet."

Then the man got up and began walking towards the stairs. "I wouldn't do that if I were you. If I were you I'd stay right were you are, turn around and ask how you might be able to help us in return for saving your life. Or we could do this the hard way; you could try to run and I could rip out your knee-caps. I hear it's difficult to walk that way..." To punctuate his sentiment he dropped the head of his chain to the wooden floor producing a soft thud and then kicked it in to a spin which he perpetuated with a twirl of his wrist.

"Your choice, but you'd better make it fast." He continued to twirl the chain, criss-crossing it back and forth in front of himself and then off to the side where he kept an idle spin going while waiting for the reply.

OOCAssuming that Rauverne’s Invisibility has now worn off.

Running his hands through his hair, and checking that he still looks immaculately presented, Rauverne sheathes his rapier and proudly surveys his handiwork.

Hearing the stranger’s comments, Rauverne waves dismissively, Think nothing of it, friend, although it’s a good job I showed up here when I did. These two looked like they were struggling without me. With a quick slash of an imaginary rapier, Rauverne acts the part of a champion fencer, That jab up the jacksy did the trick I reckon!

In no rush to head off downstairs to investigate the latest furore, Rauverne saunters around the landing, Now, when I was I next door looking over here, there was a canoodling couple in this room here, Rauverne tries to gauge which room it is in relation to where he was standing in the adjacent building. Pointing to the door, Rauverne continues, The lady looked very enamoured of her partner, but… with a swish of his multi-coloured mane, Rauverne laughs, That was before she laid eyes on me, of course.

Wincing at Voodoo’s coarse fumble at diplomacy, Rauverne shakes his head in disapproval at the man’s methods. About to walk over to check on Huvan, Rauverne does an about turn as he comes face-to-face with the tiger, It looks more like pets corner up here….Huvan, I’m guessing you brought this tiger to the party? I have no idea how I’ll incorporate the beast into my cover story to the guards, he laughs, But I’ll sure have fun trying, Rauverne’s eyes sparkle as he his brain ticks over the elaborate possibilities, sensing a tale of epic proportions coming on.

Sashaying down the stairs to attempt to divert the attentions of the guards, Rauverne displays the carefree attitude of a man without a worry in the world, as he begins singing another improvised song, The Eagle and the Heroic Rogue.

OOCGath, Voodoo is scary! If that's him being diplomatic, I'd hate to be on the receiving end of some intimidation!!

ooc:Lol...

The man imediately stops his progress towards the stairs when Voodoo begins to speak. Suddenly the chain drops and little bits of bone, flesh and blood that had been previously stuck to it, splat on the floor. He looks down at the fresh mess and then gives Voodoo a nervous grin. Umm...of course. Anything you ask....just name it. He looks very tense and nervous. Or at least he did, until Rauverne begins his display which eventually finishes with the Almar "shashaying" down the stairs. The man watched Rauverne until he had disappeared around the bend of the stairs, at which point he turned back to Voodoo and asked. I gots to give him credit. That guys got style. He's not famous or anything, is he? Voodoo now has his undivided attention.

Rauverne proceeds down the stairs to find a small throng gathered below. The six or seven men and women had gone absolutely silent when they heard the steps indicating someone was coming down the stairs. However, when they saw who it was the group exploded with a bevy of comments and questions. What happened up there ?!?! Is everyone dead? I heard it was a pack of wild dogs. Did you kill them? I signaled for the guard they should be coming! Who are you? *sniff, sniff* Is that perfume you're wearing?

Rauverne meandered down the stairs humming his latest composition to himself. Feigning surprise, he delicately touched his chest and asked, Are you all here to see me? Well, I am flattered!

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Rauverne deliberately blocked the entryway up there, but sensing that he had a captive audience, he wasn’t about to discard such a golden opportunity to regale them with a grandiose tale.

With an elaborate bow and dramatic gesticulations, Rauverne introduced himself, Ladies and gentlemen, I am Rauverne Kindel, renown teller of tales from afar. I apologise if the noise you heard was excessive, but it was necessary in the pursuance of my art.

The truth of the matter is, I’m visiting friends here who I haven’t seen for too long
, with a wink at one of the ladies, as he entwined his arm in hers, he whispered to her, You know how these things are, my dear.

I’ve been regaling them of my exploits across the land. I admit the re-enactment of my escape from a pack of wild animals was a tad raucous, although I do a fantastic impression of a wild animal. Linking his other arm through another lady’s, Rauverne purrs in her ear.

Laughing lightly, Rauverne scoffs, The fact that you were all taken in is testament to my ability as a storyteller, is it not?

Indicating that the crowd should disperse, Rauverne says, Come along, friends, the Gods are smiling on you today...for the fee of a small glass of wine, I shall re-tell my life story! Who knows of a high quality inn?

With a look at one of the men, Rauverne lowers his voice, Kind sir, you may wish to notify the guards of the false alarm, I’d hate to be the cause of any embarrassment.

In response to the final question, Rauverne laughs, Perfume? Gosh, no? Essence of fresh guava and goodberry oil. With my own special ingredient. With a final wink, Rauverne tries to lead them all away, saying, I’ll entrust you with this knowledge over another glass of wine.

Huvan watched the tense exchange between Voodoo and the mysterious man from his perch on the window sill. It wasn't until Rauverne had acknowledged him that he realized he was still in animal form.

After hopping down from the ledge and onto the wood floor, Huvan morphed back into his normal self. There was a deep bruise and small tear in his arm where moments ago had been a wing clasped between tiger fangs. A quick inspection of his gear revealed that everything was still in one piece. Huvan walked over toward the tiger and knelt down next to it. He put a hand on the tiger's head and began to pet it gently while whispering into its ear. When finished he smiled and stood up, patting the tiger on the neck before walking off to speak with Voodoo.

Huvan eyed the two piles of fur, broken bone, and torn flesh lying at Voodoo's feet, he took a quick glance at the blood soaked instrument in the rogue's capable hands and then leveled his gaze on the Voodoo himself. Quite a mess we've made don't you think? I had hoped we could reach our objective with a bit less commotion, but it is what it is. And what of this man here? How does he fit into the picture?

Before Voodoo could answer, the druid's eagerness to share the knowledge of his own pre-battle scouting mission caught the better of him. I believe I saw what could only have been... Eyeing the mysterious man with suspicion, Huvan chooses his words more carefully. ...our target. He wobbled around his room like a drunk, with a sword in hand. He seemed to be expecting someone or something. I don't believe he had any way out of the room except by window, though in his state that would surely prove a hazardous exit. It's likely however that he heard this ruckus and may have been desperate enough to try.

OOCWoohoo! Here's to our first successful battle. Excellent fun.
